TimesTen and Eclipse java development problem

Hello all
Using TimesTen with JDBC in from a Java code developed on Eclipse I encounter a problem: when running the program in debug mode, everything works fine. Running without debug, or outside Eclipse, results in the following error:
java.sql.SQLException: [TimesTen][TimesTen 7.0.5.0.0 ODBC Driver][TimesTen]TT0837: Cannot attach data store shared-memory segment, error 8 -- file "db.c", lineno 7891, procedure "sbDbCreate"
Does anyone know the cause of this, or can point me to logs or other resources I can look into?

Okay, it is almost certainly an address space issue. Unfortunately 32-bit Windows is about the most problematic platform from this perspective. A TimesTen datastore is a single, contiguous memory region of size approximating PermSize+TempSize+LogBuffSize+DS header. In your case that will be about 1098 Mb. To 'connect' to this datastore, it is necessary to map the datastore memory (it is a shared mapping allocated from the Windows paging file) into your process (in this case the JVM) as a single region. Unfortunately, unlike most O/S, in Windows shared libraries (DLLs) have to be loaded at fixed locations in the address space defined when the DLL was linked. This means that although your process has a 4 GB address space (with quite a bit reserved for WIndows and other uses) that space is often highly fragmented with various DLLs (system and application) located all over the place. This means that often it is hard to find a single contiguous address space region to map a large datastore.
into.
To verify that this is the issue, could you try reducing the datastore size to say PermSize=128, TempSize=64 and see if you can connect then. If you can then you will have to experiment by slowly increasing Perm and Temp until you find the maximum size store you can accomodate. If you are using no logging (Are you sure that is what you want? You will end up with a single threaded datastore if you do that...) you could reduce LogBuffSize to the smallest allowed value (128 Kb).
If it does turn out to be an address space issue then you have 3 options:
1. Live with a smaller datastore size.
2. Try and re-arrange the memory map by rebasing DLLs to create a larger contiguous region. Note that ijn any event it is very unlikely you will ever be able to exceed ~1.5 Gb for a datastore.
3. Switch to 64-bit Windows, 64-bit TimesTen and a 64-bit JVM. Then the only limit on datastore size is available RAM.
Let me know the outcome.

Chris

  • Desktop Integration Portlet and Sun Java Runtime problem

    Hi,
    The DIP works just fine in our test portal (10.1.4) if users have the Sun Java installed and enabled. The problem is that we have another application in our company that requires that Sun Java NOT be enabled. Does anyone know of a workaround, or a way to modify the portlet to get around this issue?
    Thanks.

    Well, the DIP internally uses a java applet which will then scan the preferred folder. I know that this is a little too late for an answer, I was just searching on DIP when I saw this post.

  • Javadoc after Mac OS X 10.6 Java Update 3 and Java Developer Package

    I can't seem to find javadocs, src, nor any real documentation on my Mac after installing Mac OS X 10.6 Java Update 3 and the Java Developer Package. NetBeans used to just find it, and now doing a find as shown below reveals nothing. Does the Developer Package actually include docs anymore? If so, where do I find them?
    find /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/ -name "doc*"
    find /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/ -name "src*"
    find /System/Library/Java/ -name "doc*"
    None of these turn up anything.
    Thanks!

    It took me a while but I solved it like this:
    In NetBeans, open the Java Platform Manager (Tools -> Java Platforms).
    Click the Add Platform... button in the lower left corner.
    Select Java Standard Edition (selected by default).
    In the File field, enter: /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0_22-b04-307.jdk/Contents/Home
    Click Next >
    The Platform Sources field should say: /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0_22-b04-307.jdk/Contents/Home/src.jar
    If the Platform Javadoc field is empty, browse to or enter: /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0_22-b04-307.jdk/Contents/Home/docs.jar
    Click Finish
    Exit NetBeans.
    Open: /Applications/NetBeans/NetBeans 6.8.app/Contents/Resources/NetBeans/etc/netbeans.conf (e.g. in TextEdit)
    Beneath the line that says: #netbeans_jdkhome="/path/to/jdk"
    Enter: netbeansjdkhome="/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.022-b04-307.jdk/Contents/Home"
    Overriding the default location in the netbeans.conf file may be enough such that you don't need to add the platform in the Netbeans Java Platform Manager.

  • [SOLVED] Unable to install "Eclipse Java Developers"

    Hey everyone,
    I am setting up a new dev machine and need to install Eclipse (java developer version).  From what I can tell the Eclipse Classic does not include the Marketplace and I need it to install the Emacs+ plugin (I have a hard time typing without it).
    When running `pacman -S eclipse` the classic version is the one that is installed (fail).  I have also downloaded the Java version but when I try to run it I get an error `exec format error: ./eclipse` (fail)
    There is an eclipse java version available via yaourt, but after installing I get errors thrown when trying to install the Android developer tools; both when running eclipse as my user as well as sudo. (fail / fail)
    So does anyone know of a surefire way to install the Eclipse java developer version?
    Thanks for any help.

    Using Eclipse Classic I was able to install the plugin with a direct url to the emacs+ site.

    Hi,
    The newest and default version of Eclipse is Galileo which is version 3.5.x
    According to the Widget development guide, widget developer tool covers Eclipse 3.3.x (Europa) and 3.4.x  (Galileo).
    The problem is solved by downloading one of those versions from http://wiki.eclipse.org/Older_Versions_Of_Eclipse and installing widget development tools.

  • Is Eclipse (java viewer) for CR still being developed?

    Hello,
    Is the Eclipse (Crystal java viewer) still being invested in from a development perspective? I'm currently using the .NET (HTML) viewer because of two reasons:
    1. The Java viewer has embedded flash functions which render it useless on Apple devices.
    2. I heard the Java viewer was not going to be supported in favour of the .NET (HTML) viewer.
    Can you someone confirm if the Eclipse (Java) viewer is still being developed. Also, is there a version that strips out the Flash functions?
    I'd like to drop the HTML viewer because I'm paying $600/year just to run Windows servers just for this viewer!
    Thanks for any assistance on this!

  • Java, UML and Eclipse ?

    Hi to everyone, I'm new to the forum, as well as Java. I'm currently learning from a Deitel Book (How to program in Java) and some links I've found in this Forum. I'm using Eclipse (OS X version), after having used pico and terminal commands to learn the basics (editioin, compilation, etc..)
    Now I'm learning Java because I'll be working with more experienced developer in a few weeks in a major project, and since Java is an OOP language I think it would be desirable to learn and use UML, I've seen somewhere in this forum that Eclipse supports UML via pluggin, but what version of UML is desirable to learn and use for developing Java ? if it is desirable at all !
    Thanks !!!

    There's only one version of UML to learn.
    Maybe you mean what UML tools would be good to learn?
    If you have a lot of money, Rational Rose from IBM/Rational is popular. I don't care for it myself.
    Borland's Together is a fine product. You'll have to buy a license.
    ArgoUML has a good freeware edition to download. You can't import Java files into it to generate diagrams, but you can create diagrams by hand with it.
    I'm not aware of a UML plugin for Eclipse.
    What does Google find for you?

  • Debuging with Sun java AS and eclipse

    hi,
    i'm using eclipse 3.4 and sun java as 8.2 as application server.
    when i used first tomcat and in my code i put system.out.println("...") the console showed the result, now using sun as i can not see anything ?
    what to do to print in the console (without running in debug mode if possible).

    I found an acceptable work-around for this issue of not being able to specify Sun Java as the default JRE for browsers in our environment.
    I replaced our APPLET tags with OBJECT tags in our HTML code.  This allowed me to specify a Java version using a classid value, like so:
    Original APPLET tag:
    <applet name="SPCchart" code="iSPCChart" codebase="/XMII/Classes" archive="illum8.zip" mayscript>
      <param name="QueryTemplate" value="Metrics_ING/ING_010Query">
      <param name="DisplayTemplate" value="Metrics_ING/ING_010SPCChart">
    </applet>
    New OBJECT tag:
    <object  name="SPCChart" classid="clsid:CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-FFFF-ABCDEFFEDCBA" mayscript>
      <PARAM name="code" value="iSPCChart">
      <PARAM name="codebase" value="/XMII/Classes">
      <PARAM name="archive" value="illum8.zip">
      <param name="QueryTemplate" value="Metrics_ING/ING_010Query">
      <param name="DisplayTemplate" value="Metrics_ING/ING_010SPCChart">
    </object>
    The specific classid specifies any Java version in the 1.6.0 family.  (We're using 1.6.0_05)
    We're not yet in production so we're not talking about having to update thousands of APPLET tags.
    Does anyone see any problem to this approach - switching APPLET tags to OBJECT tags and specifying the appropriate Java CLASSID?

  • Jdk 1.5.0_04 and Eclipse with SuSE Linux - startup problems with Eclipse

    Hi,
    I have SuSE Linux 9.3 and just downloaded Jdk 1.5.0_04 and Eclipse IDE 3.1 for Linux.
    I have sucessfully installed Java in the following directory under Linux:
    '/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_04'
    And I also have downloaded Eclipse IDE 3.1 for Linux. I have unzipped it into the following directory:
    '/home/juergenkemeter/bin/eclipse/eclipse
    I have chosen the upper Java JRE in the Eclipse preferences.
    Now to my problem:
    Sometimes it happens that when I startup Eclipse or try to runa java program, Eclipse is shut down with a) no comment at all, or b) with an error message "JVM terminated. Exit code = 1 (...)". I can send the picture of the whole screenshot of the error message if it helps.
    Now I think that this is due to wrong installation paths of the Jdk and Eclipse?! Perhaps there are some conflicts regarding user rights (admin and the normal user 'juergenkemeter'.
    If anyone has suggestions, that would be helpful. Its nasty when Eclipse shuts down while programming...
    cheers,
    Jrgen

    I only used the getSystemResource because it is slightly more convenient. The
    getResource version requires a "/" in front of the filename, as in:
    java.net.URL imageURL = getClass().getResource("/" + imageName);
    System.out.println("Loading icon: " + imageName);
    for (int i = 0; i < 32000; i++)
    System.out.println(i);
    icon = new ImageIcon(imageURL);
    Unfortunately, this still deadlocks after a few thousand hits.
    Of course, I don't need thousands of icons in my application, but the real-world issue is that the program locks up every few times it is started, which is a real drag for the customers!
    I suppose the InputStream way would work, though it is not very elegant compared to loading the resource in the usual manner. I'll try it if there are no other suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi, I ran into Sam problem. I have the Eclipse 3.1.0, JBOSS 4.0.1sp1, JBoss-IDE 1.3.0 running under JDK 1.5.0.02. It appers for sum resion that the jboss-web.xml is not getting the name of the <ejb-ref-name></ejb-ref-name>. if I manually add the name so it looks like this: <ejb-ref-name>ejb/Fibo</ejb-ref-name> the project deploys. I am new to this as well and am not shore what needs to be changed to fix this in the build. I am thinking its a problem in the way XDoclet parses the source for the META DATA.

  • Some basic questions on Java development and NetWeaver CE

    Hi there,
    Can someone please explain for me:
    1. What are the development tools that will help me do Java development in SAP?
    2. Can I use non-SAP Java development tools (e.g. WebSphere or Eclipse) to develop custom extensions?  Are these equivalent to the functionality provided by CE?
    3. Given the options for doing Java development in SAP, are there any situations where I would need to do custom development in ABAP? (Is the Java functionality equivalent to the ABAP functionality?)
    4. Is NetWeaver CE only meant for Java development, or can it also be used for ABAP development?
    regards,
    Eric

    Hi
      for Java development you can user Eclipse or NWDS , which are both and the same .
      And about the ABAP development in CE 7.1 in the developer studio is it not possible .
      you are allowed for the java development .  And about using Non-SAP java development tools
      you can use the tools for java development , may the UI building ..... has to be build  when compared to
      CE 7.1  developer studio

  • Java Development issue/differences between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo (??)

    Hi Everyone,
    I am a Java developer that uses my 17" MBP Core Duo for all of my development. Lately, I've been trying to use both the Glassfish Application Server V2 (from Sun) and Maven 2.09 from the Apache project. I have configured identical scenarios on my MBP Core Duo and on a 15" MBP Core 2 Duo.
    The scenario involves compiling and running some webservices (at least on the Core 2 Duo) in a local development environment. Both machines use the default JDK 1.5.0_13 installed on the machine.
    On the 17" Core Duo, issuing a "mvn install" command produces the following error:
    [INFO] Compiling 1 source file to /Users/john/downloads/soabook-code-20070504/chap07/endpoint-provider/modules/en dpoint/target/classes

    Running Maven with the "-e" switch turned on produces the following stacktrace:

    However, the exact same software setup on the Core 2 Duo produces this result (which I would expect on the Core Duo):

    I have installed the same software versions and have the same configuration on a Windows desktop running XP SP2 and get the same successful result.
    Is this an issue between the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo? I can't see that it is since I don't believe the hardware influences the software to that degree. However, I am at a loss for what is causing the issue and the Apache Maven list insists that there are developers that are using Maven successfully on OS X.
    I really need to get past this issue, but I am at a loss. Please help.
    Thanks,
    John

    Have you repaired permissions? (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app)
    Are you sure you're using JDK 5? (Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Preferences.app or output of $ javac -version)
