Tint Colors in a Tab Bar?

Has anyone accomplished this? I did a few searches and it there doesn't seem to be a clear way to create the same 'tint color' effect that the navigation bar offers.
Any ideas? Categories maybe (though I hear are unsuccessful on an actual device)?

You might be able to override the drawing method of the tab bar, and add a semi-transparent colored view over it.

  • How do I change the color of the area next to the Tab Bar

I've got Firefox 8.0, and ever since they went to the new layout I've had problems with the area at the right of the Tab Bar. When FF is maximized, the buttons up there ( > + ▼ X ) are black on a dark blue background, and I almost can't see them - so I never use it maximized.
How do I change the color, maybe back to the colors it uses when not maximized?

I got used to the tabs at the top -- and kinda prefer that look, but I'll try this for a while.
Is there any way to change the color of either the buttons or the background?
    Thanks.

  • Does navigation/tab bar support multi-color icons? or only monochrome icons?

    Hi,
I am building an app where, when i set the navigation/tab bar icon to a multi-colored image, it gives a blue tile and not the image. Is monochrome image a necessity for the icons of navigation/tab bar?

No.  You can have colour images with no problems.  I'm guessing that there's something wrong with your image format.
You will get better responses to your question if you post in the programmer fora on developer.apple.com rather than the user fora here.

  • How should I do for my Tab Bar icon???(For iPhone 4)

I have already had the design. However, there are two resolutions:
    30 x 30 pixels
    About 60 x 60 pixels (high resolution)
Are they the same way to implement?
    What is the implementation there???
I tried to put the icon file(png file) in my resources section of my Xcode, and then add the file from the attributes window of the tab bar. But It turned out that the image couldn't be shown, it was a square of gray color, no lines, no figures!
How come? What should I do?
    Thanks a lot!!!

    From the linked document:
For tab bar icons, create an icon in the following sizes:
    For iPhone and iPod touch:
    About 30 x 30 pixels
    About 60 x 60 pixels (high resolution)
    For iPad:About 30 x 30 pixels
Note: The icon you provide for toolbars, navigation bars, and tab bars is used as a mask to create the icon you see in your application. It is not necessary to create a full-color icon.
Use Preview, GraphicConverter, etc....see the Mac App Store for image editors and add an alpha channel to your image...size it, and add it to the bundle.

  • Trying to disable animation on tab bar

    ''locking as a duplicate - /questions/887078#answer-261172''
I used to use Firefox 3.6 and have just upgraded to version 7.0.1 (Pale Moon build, that shouldn't actually affect anything).
There's a really annoying issue that I'm noticing and I can't figure out how to disable it. I can only describe it as an animated scrolling tab-bar. I have about 35 tabs open at any given time, so obviously the screen is over-filled with them and they won't all show at once. That's not a problem, that's why I can scroll through them myself!
Well, say I'm on the far left of my tabs. If I open a new tab, or even click on a link that opens in a new tab, it will open in the far right (as I want it to), but it shows the entire tab bar scrolling over to the right, which takes a good 2-3 seconds with the huge number of tabs I keep open. Then when I close that tab, it scrolls all the way back.
I do remember Firefox 3 doing the same thing, I believe it was called smooth scrolling? At the time I was able to figure it out, there was something in about:config I had to modify. I can't find this option with FF7 anymore. I tried disabling the tab animation, but from what I've read, that only prevents it from "growing" the tab from scratch, which doesn't really happen if the screen's already filled anyway.
Even if I'm on the far right tab and open a new one, the new tab "appears" as an animation, from the far right of the screen and shifts into place. That's cool and all for those who like fancy graphics, but I'm using a web browser here, not a movie player. It's just obnoxious when I have to watch the animations move around when I have large numbers of tabs open.
Can somebody help me disable this setting? If I install the addon "Tab Mix Plus", the issue goes away... however, that program does all sorts of other weird stuff like make my tabs all in italics and in red color. I'd rather not use an addon to fix what seems like a simple solution if I don't have to.

  • Icon tab bar / CSS

    Hi all ,
I'm trying to attach CSS in order to adjust the icon tab bar header color.
I've assigned ID & Class to the tab bar and tried to attach both to the CSS but there is no affection on the tab bar.
    any suggestions ?
    Regards,
    Arie.

you can't do it that way
.idIconTabBar means a a class name not ID
for ID you need to use #
another problem is that idIconTabBar will have a prefix with view name
you need to call addStyleClass and pass name of your custom class and define it in css, like
    .myIconTabBar
    {background-color:rgba(0,120,100,0.1)!important;}
    rgba(156,176,255,0.55)
    addStyleClass ("myIconTabBar")

  • 2 Tab Bar Controllers?

I have an application that performs calculations in metric. It has a TabBar that controls the home view plus 3 other views.
How do I add a button (go to Imperial) on the Home View to change to a new view that has another Tab Bar that controls Imperial views.

That's a nice clean looking suite of apps, Steve! It looks like you have a nice business plan, and you know what you're doing.
I might need to sleep on the concept a day or two before recommending the best structure for DIY Concrete. The first obvious question is whether the same contractor would be dealing with both measurement systems. I.e. does the versatility add value to the app, or would it be better to just have two apps? Just curious... as I'm sure you knew the answer to that question going in.
At first glance, supporting the two measurement systems very closely resembles a straightforward localization job. You certainly don't need a different tab bar controller. It looks like the screen layouts don't need to change in any way, so it's just a question of changing the text of labels and other controls plus minor changes to the computation. In fact doesn't GST Mate already do exactly that?
Anyway if I'm correct in making the localization analogy, I'd tend to implement the switching in the same way as changing locality. I'd switch to a different string resource, and either switch nibs as well, or keep the same controllers. I'm fairly sure it would be easier and cleaner to just switch nibs. If the seg switch is only available from the home screen, it looks like changing the word Metric is about the only transition that needs to be visible to the user (maybe a change in background color too?). That means you can swap out the other three controllers without any attention to those transitions, right?
If you coded GST Mate I'd be surprised if you need any help adding Imperial to your concrete app, but if I come up with any better or more precise ideas I'll let you know.

Is there a way to color code a stacked bar chart?  We need to have one horizontal bar with the colors listed below.  In other words, we need to color code a date range to a specific color based on the "Color" column.  I have it to the point of different colors for each date range in a single stacked bar, but cannot figure out how to link to a specific color.

Thanks for the replies - here are the answers to your follow-up questions:
    Lugh - I am using Crystal v10, I don't find a "Color Highlight tab".
Ranjit - I found this tab, but the only "conditional format" must be based on the start date (x-axis) which is not the field that I need to use to change the color.  It appears that I can only use the x-axis values when conditionally formatting a bar, which is not what I need.  I need to use a field not actually used in the graph to conditionally format the colors.

  • [iphone] Custom Icons in Tab Bars - Not Working

I'm trying to use my own icons on the Tab Bar because the Standard Icons do not fit with what what my menus display.
I've tried saving them as 30x30 black and white .png files, but for some reason the simulator and the device display the icon as a blue square. They will not show the .png.
I've also tried saving it as a .jpg and no dice. Anyone have insight as to why this is?

Here is a procedure that I used to create the tab icons using Photoshop. I am not a photoshop expert in any way so if there may be a shorter approach. The qist is to create a grayscale image with a mask layer, no background and export to png with transparency. After scouring the net for tips and suggestions, I gathered some pointers on twitter and iphone sdk message boards and narrowed down this procedure. So all credit to the original authors! Sorry - I did not keep track of them.
1 You need to create a single layer grayscale image and not worry about how the tab is displayed when it is active (blue background) and gray (inactive). That's handled in the SDK.
Create a grayscale image and save it s jpeg or gif. Delete the background completely
    2. Open this image and select all and copy the image to your clipboard. Ensure that you can view the layers/channels/paths window (in Photoshop go to the WINDOW menu and check layers).
    3. In the layers/channels window, you will see the layer labeled as "background"
(notice the lock icon on the right extreme)
    4. Convert this "background" to a mask layer - double click on the lock icon.
A new layer window will pop up. click ok.
    5. select the channels tab, and add an alpha channel by clicking on the small icon on the lower border of the layer/channels window -looks like circle within a rectangle. (it should say "save selection as channel" when you "mouseover" this icon. This message will not be displayed if you have not copied your original image to the clipboard.
    6. You should now see two channels listed (Gray and Alpha).
    7. Select the Alpha channel and paste from clipboard
    8. ensure that both channels are selected for display and Invert the image -- will change colors - reddish tinge
    9. Save for web devices, select transparency and png format and save
You can now drag this ping into xcode!

  • Is there any way to add color to the tabs in safari?

I just updated late 2009 Mac to Yosemite... inthe past Ihave not used Safari because I have a hard time reading the tab bar.  Is there any way to get color tabs and color on the extensionsbar above it?  Thanks!

    Sorry, no.

  • How do I restore the "close tab" button to the END of the tab bar, WITHOUT USING AN ADDON

Up until FF31, I used to have the following setting configured which moved the little 'X' button that closed tabs off of the tabs themselvs and onto the far right of the tab bar.
    browser.tabs.closeButtons; User Set; Integer; 3
No, this no longer works. It has still moved the close buttons back to the tab buttons. Until I can figure out how to fix this, I will be moving back to a previous version. I can't for the life of me see why this feature was removed, other than Mozilla's seemingly arrogant insistence that it knows what people want better than they do.
I was since told by someone that I can use an addon to fix it, yet the problem is THEY DO NOT WORK. The addons that supposedly solve this all have intermittent failures where they don't load correctly, leave random dead tabs open, and in one case it even seemed to open new tabs when I tried to close one.
It's absolutely inexcusable that the dev team is so arrogant to take away a feature that has fundamentally no impact on the rest of the browser, other than, as I said before, they THINK they know what we want better than we do. It's no small wonder that FF is losing market share. The only thing keeping me on board was really this function, as I prefer this layout, and if it's gone, I see no reason to stick with FF over others.

unfortunately it is not possible to restore the close button to have only one (customizable) close button on the Tab bar without using an extension.
The extension is necessary because you need to create a new toolbar button and bind the proper code to it to make the button act as a tab close button (command: BrowserCloseTabOrWindow()).
