Tip: Final Draft and SuperDuper
Theoretically, you're making a perfect clone, but the software activation for Final Draft does not transfer. If you're making a back-up for emergencies, know that if your boot crashes, the back-up won't have Final Draft working without the disc. You may have to throw yourself on the mercy of FD Tech Support to get the drive activated.
If you are moving your boot to another hard drive, simply deactivate the program on the old boot drive online first, run superduper, then reactivate online on the new drive. Never had a glitch with their online activation process.
Yes- Final Draft works on the Air- you can authorise it or use it with remote disk. I did it.

I use two apps primarily FCP and Final Draft- upgrade or not?
Would like to dictate my scripts using Mavericks but If I do I will have to upgrade Final Cut Pro, and have backward compatibility issues and also Final Draft- this free upgrade will cost me hundereds if not more and a lot of time- any suggested workarounds- can I instal Mavericks for just one user?
Make a clone of your system drive. A USB 3 external hard drive will be fine. Remove the external hard drive after booting into it to make sure it works.
Install 10.9 and whatever software you want on your hard drive.
Is it worth it?
If so, keep going.
If not, clone your USB 3 drive back over to your MBP hard drive and revert to where you were.

The word just doesn't show up unless I press space bar or enter. This just happens on script window in final draft 9 and title window in Premiere Pro.

That card is under-powered for the hardware-accelerated Mercury Playback Engine. If you've tried to get it working with hardware MPE, then that's a likely cause of the crashing. Pr needs at least 1 GB of VRAM for hardware MPE. Stick to software MPE and things may improve.

How can I get FINAL DRAFT program from MAC to a PC
I tried the partition thing on external western digital drive,and it didn't work.
Am trying to get the program of Final Draft, the
program or whole folder, from macbook pro
to send it to a pc netbook with windows starter 7.
How can you do this??
I saved it on a file sharing site and downloaded
it but it didn't open.

you cannot install WIndows with BootCamp on external harddisks.
You cannot use an OSX application in Windows.

How Do I get Final Draft 7 to work with OSX 10.8.3 ?
Everytime I try to open it I get this message (see attached). I can't update to Final Draft 8, so if that's your sugestion please don't respond. I heard there is something I can download to make it work? Please help! Thank you so much! Miranda
Sorry, but according to Final Draft you can't run FD7 in OS X 10.8:
Final Draft v.7 / 6 / 5 are not compatible with Mountain Lion.
If you own Final Draft v.7 / 6 / 5 and you want to run Final Draft on a Mountain Lion computer, you will need to upgrade to v.8. This upgrade is not free.
The only way to run Final Draft 7 on a Mountain Lion system, therefore, would be to run Mac OS X 10.6 Server in virtualization. 10.6 Server is available for US $19.95 if you call the online Apple Store. You then can install and run that in a solution such as Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion, or VirtualBox. Or if your Mac will boot from Mac OS X 10.7 or an earlier version, you could create a new partition on your Mac's hard drive, or use an external drive, and install the earlier OS X version on that volume and boot to that when you need to run Final Draft.

Then ask whoever sent it to you to remove it and create a new PDF.
There is one thing you can check first and that’s layers in the PDF. Perhaps whoever created it put that on a top layer and you can just turn it off. -

I have a disc for Final Draft 7 screenwriting software. My attempt to use it today failed because "PowerPC applications are no longer supported." I don't even know what this really means. Can anyone please tell me how to work around this or get those applications supported (as they must have been before)? Thanks.
PowerPC was the processor type for Macs prior to 2006. It was coded in a way that is not compatible with the 2006 and later Intel-based Macs. To ease the transition, Apple included a way for the OS to "translate older programs coded for PwoerPC Macs so they would run on Intel Macs.
This lasted about six years. PowerPC Support for pre-Intel Mac software, which through OS 10.6.8 was handled by Rosetta emulation, disappeared with OS 10.7 in 2011.
You either need to upgrade Final Draft to a version that supports Macs with Intel Processors, or use your current software on an older Mac. -
Story does not yet compare to Final Draft as a screenwriting tool
I was very excited to discover Story was included in the cloud - I was hoping I could use it to supplant Final Draft.
However,
Story is not a great tool yet and is not nearly at the same level as Final Draft when it comes to the writing experience. I am re-converting back to Final Draft.
Text typing is sluggish - I'm often waiting for the cursor to appear where I place my mouse, text takes time to appear - even in offline mode. The mouse doesn't move fluidly in the software - which actually is a problem when you are trying to place it for editing.
There needs to be many, more formatting options - there doesn't even seem to be an All-Caps option which is unforgivable in screenwriting software. Auto-complete is wonky and editing a character list to remove or re-order names is ridiculous (why wouldn't you auto-create a character list and let me edit that list easily from inside the writing interface - as opposed to some unintuitive, seperate character list that requires me to close my script?). For example, I have a character now named "A" that I cannot seem to remove from the project because I cannot access the auto-correct list.
And saying - "make a character list and then edit it" - is not an acceptable answer because the program should do that for me automatically (updating all the way) as I go.
Opening scripts takes way too long. Using the auto-format keys feels broken - I should type a sentence and then CNTL-# and be typing in the next element on th new line immediately, rather than having to hit the return key and THEN format. While that may be a preference of mine that isn't shared by others, I should be able to make the program do that easily (which is one of Story's failings - it doesn't let me manage my workspace nearly enough).
When I save, the script should open AT THE PLACE I SAVED. Especially when you force me to quit writing to manage the project frequently and loading scripts takes so long. This is a really annoying trait of the software and again seems simple to include or offer options for letting me set that preference in there somewhere.
The organizational options are really unflexible. I want all my scripts in one place - not each in its own project. Why force that? Why not be more flexible? For a company that makes things like After Effects - which has incredible workspace flexibility - this product feels strangely dictatorial.
The downloaded program is buggy (for example - the formatting bar is selected, but doesn't show, unless i select it again, the mouse feels loose).
It feels like the software was designed to do many things. What it isn't is a comperable challenger to Final Draft. Sorry. And I WANTED this to be the case.

1. Open ADUC, right click the user and choose properties.
2. In Exchange General tab, click Delivery restrictions tab, Make sure the user is allowed to accept message from everyone.
For exchange 2007:
1. Open EMC, expand to Recipient Configuration->Mailbox, right click the user and choose properties.
2. In Mail Flow settings, click Delivery restrictions.

I aplogize this is probably not the correct forum but I couldn't find one for Final Draft.
Does anyone have any input on using Final Draft? Ease of use, good, bad or otherwise?
Of if someone could lead me to the right spot to better ask this that would be appreciated as well.
I'm also looking to see if anyone has any experience with a program called Scrivener to see if it is worth spending the extra $150 on Final Draft or just spend $45 on Scrivener.

I'm more interested in writing screenplays. I've actually used scrivener briefly to write a short play and I did start writing a screenplay with it also, but had to quit for a while. (It was a friends version of Scrivener so I don't have it any more) Now I want to get started on the screenplay again and am trying to decide if it's worth the $200 just to get Final Draft. It looks like FD is used by lots of writers so....must be good. Sometimes easy is worth the extra investment. But if it isn't much, much better than Scrivener, I'll just use that.
One other thing.
If I have several scenes written on Scrivener, can I transfer them to Final Draft or won't FD import the text correctly?

Does final draft's Collabowriter work for Mac?
I have been trying to find what 'Final Draft's simple explanation on how to forwrad to port 5001 so you can have an IP address to host a session on Collaborwrter.
But it is very confusing. And no idea if do-able.

Converting Final Draft file to PDF
Ok I've been converting Final Draft documents into PDF format for years, now all of a sudden Adobe is telling me I can't perform this operation for some reason. I've been using the same laptop for 2 years using Windows 7, and was able to convert until now. Can someone tell me why this is now a problem for adobe? Any suggestions on how to convert without having to buy new software? Is there an update that needs to be downloaded that I can't find in this very moment? Please advise because this is going to cause me serious heartache.
What is the EXACT and complete message you get? And what version of Acrobat? It's hard to say anything about updates or compatibility without that...

BETTER RE-WRITING THAN FINAL DRAFT?
My biggest problem in Final Draft 7 is when you go back and re-write dialogue, scene headings etc. When you delete things the chance is high that a dialogue part - for instance - recieve formatting from a following element. This is extremely disturbing, and when you try to correct each following element inherits the problem.
Example: I go back to
CHARACTER
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah
TRANSITION
If i delete the red part, and starts replacing it (blah2), it often becomes like this:
CHARACTER
Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
BLAH2 BLAH2 BLAH2TRANSITION
(or something similar)
Perhaps another topic, but:
It is extremely important that you can write fast, without using the mouse/trackpad. Everything should be able to be reached with a simple key/shortcut. The worst thing about all word processing in general - but especially in scriptwriting - is when you are forced to use the mouse. Make sure this is considered, and you will dominate the market in less than a few months. Rather release a well developed version first, than hand out new releases in steps and let us wait for the reasons to switch to AS. It is a picky and conservative target group, scriptwriters. The nice breakdown funcions will always be inferior in comparison to the user-friendliness of the writing itself.
