Tip strip for menu selection

Can someone suggest any method to add tip strips for menu options ? I am going crazy searching for various possibilities

Unfortunately there is no way to put tips on menus.
To work around this problem I created that mimic windows menus.
Below is a menu window that I created. You can improve by adding other features such as enabling / disabling items.
To run you will need the "OpenGToolkit" and subVI SYS_cor_so.vi
It was made in LabVIEW 8.6 but can be converted to any version.

The only thing I can think of is to use an event structure
use a mouse move event
Get Cords
Calculate what item the mouse is over
Use a Tips property node to write the correct string.
The hard part will be calculating what item the mouse is over, The Displayed Items property node should help.
I am actively working on a program that is centered around a tree control and might like to do the same.

Get menu selection help

Hi I am new to the Labview world and am having a bit of an issue with the get menu selection vi. I opened an example (Queued Message Handler.vi) and basically copied that get menu selection setup in my vi. Yet all i get for menu selections are null strings. I have tried to set the get menu selection timeout to -1 then selecting a menu item. I still get a null string from it so I know it isn't some timing issue. I have attached a copy of my vi. The runtime menu I was using was just File with an exit option. There are a couple sub vi's that i made that are required to run Queue.vi but they arent really needed to see what I am doing. Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi Superseadragon,
I recommend you to use an event-driven state machine desing pattern that combines a queued state machine and event structure into a hybrid single-loop design pattern.
I made an example with your code but as I don't have your set up I put in commentary all the communication function.
To close the VI click on the cross on the upper right corner like for a tradionnal application.
You can fire an event from the run time menu. I included a case in the event structure. Have a look at it. This is not the only way to do it.

Hi,
It is absolutely the same thing if you are looking for properties of indicator or controls.
To get the issues straightend out a little bit:
You have your LabVIEW Adapter in Teststand. You configure the Adpater to get the results of some indicators.
Let say, you read back the value of the indicator "MyIndicatorA". You already know the label of the indicator, otherwise you could not have configured the step. What are you looking for here exactely?
As for reading the tip strips of control, indicator... it doesn´t matter. Over the VI Server of LabVIEW you can get references to elements. Indicators are Elements. But the VI Server is bundle of function that you woul have to use in your LabVIEW Programm
A solution was already posted here: write VIs that put out the information you are looking for, using VI Server functionality. I think, what you are hoping for is a function in the Teststand VI Adapter "VI Indicator Tip Strip" of the indicator that gives you your parameter.
As far as I know , that doen ´t exist.

I would like to create chapters within my footage for Scene selection on the DVD menu

I have edited footage using FCPX and exported it to allow me to use it in IDVD. I now would like to set chapter markers so that the DVD menues allow for scene selection. I believe that I may have to do this in FCPX before exporting it

This is one of the most embarrassing omissions in FCP X. There is no proper facility to add chapter markers and export them with your movie.
The way I get around it is to make each chapter a separate project in its own right. I then export each of the chapters and when I bring them into my DVD Authoring application, it's a synch to add the chapter markers (between each file on the timeline) with precision.
As you've already created your project (presumably in one hit) create a new project for each chapter then copy and paste the relevant clips into each 'chapter' project, then export.
Alternatively, you can add chapter markers from within the preview window in Compressor if you have it - but it's quite fiddley and not very precise.

Menu selection issues in Flash CS4 for Mac

I'm having a few menu selection issues in Flash. It seems some fields are de-selecting automatically (and quickly). For instance:
1) When I double-click a layer to change it's name, it highlights then immediately de-selects. I can only rename by right-clicking and bringing up the Properties dialog.
2) Fields highlight briefly then immediately de-select in the Properties menu when using the Tab button to advance or cycle thru fields. I have to click on each field individually to enter dimensions/characters.
Possibly related...
On occasion, I'm having an issue in Photoshop where the tools are off by 30 pixels or so. Examples:
- Paint brush affects an area approximately 30px to the right and down from the brush head.
- Selection tool selects an area approximately 30px to the right and down from the arrow head.
This only happens on occasion and can be fixed by restarting Photoshop. I have not had any luck fixing the problems experienced within Flash.
I'm experiencing this on two different machines that have CS4 installed. My only guess is a conflict with a Logitech driver OR a Wacom driver, but I have uninstalled the software and unplugged the Logitech mouse and Wacom tablet to no avail.
Long time Flash/Photoshop user.... never had a problem like this.
Anyone else have these issues or know a fix?

Hi there,
This is a known issue, however we have not been able to reproduce it internally. The way to fix it (assuming it's the same problem) is to change your workspace (such as resetting to a default shipping layout, and then modifying from there), as it seems as though something about the workspace is causing the problem. It could be very specific to where its layed out on your monitor(s), some exact pixel size of a panel and/or grouping - and so on. However, we haven't been able to reproduce this internally yet - only reproed and fixed similar problems - so I cannot say for sure, however changing the workspace has fixed it for the other users I've talked to seeing this one.
If you are able to share the following about one or both of your computers and send it to jdh (at) adobe, greatly appreciated:
* workspace XML file from the Configuration directory (before changing the workspace!)
* description monitor layout (ie: primary on left, secondary on right... or "one" )
* monitor resolution(s)
* screenshot(s) of your layout exhibiting the problem

[tip] search for / selecting NO keywords (selection photos without a keyword)

Probably it is old news but I couldn't find it here that fast.
I have 20.000 photos, some have a keyword(s) some have not. So I searched for a selection of photographs without a keyword. But there is none.
The trick is to add a special keyword you normally not use like (only) "_" (underscore) to all photos without a keyword. But there is no way to select photos wihtout a keyword... So I came up with a two step strategy and this trick only cost 2-3 minutes with 20.000 photos:
Add the "_" keyword to all you photos.
Select all photos with a real keyword by shift clicking on all keywords tags except "_".
Remove the "_" keyword from those photos.
Now select the "_" keyword or search on the "_" keyword.
A how to, in 14 steps:
1. Hit G, goto library (in left panel) and click on "all photographs"
2. Select all photos by pressing ctrl-a
3. Wait till LR is ready displaying all used keywords in the right keywords panel
4. In right panel under keywording/keyword tags add the keyword "_"
5. Wait till LR is ready updating all your photos (20.000 photos: 1 minute)
6. Goto "Keyword tags" in the left panel
7. Select the (suppose the second) keyword just after the "_" keyword by left clicking.
8. Scroll down till the end in the keyword list
9. Now, shift click on the last keyword
10. You now selected all keywords except the "_" keyword and all are highlihted
11. Select all photo's (ctrl-a)
12. Wait till LR shows all the keywords in the Keywording/keyword tags panel on the right
check: the keyword "_" should have no asterix like "_*" if so: goto step 1!
13. Remove the "_" keyword and press enter
14. Wait till LR is ready
From now on while selecting the "_" keyword or searching on the keyword "_" LR will only show the photos without a (real) keyword.
Of course, as soon as you add keyword(s) to your foto(s) you have to delete the "_" keyword.
Speed tip: when starting keywording, select the photo you like to add real keywords, ctrl-k brings you directly to the keyword tags panel in edit mode, hit backspace (to delete the "_" keyword and start typing your keywords and hit enter or tab when done. Then immediately (of course) the photo dissapears from your "_" keyword selection photos and the next photo is selected and is waiting for you to hit ctrl-k and start again. Look mam, "no mouse used!"

There is actually, and it is much simpler:
Using the Find Panel, choose Text: Keywords and Rule: Are Empty.

Tip strips only for the main VI?

my question is in the subject. So we need to use tip strips only for the main VI, since these tip strips give info to the user (who will only see the main FP), not to the programmer. Is this correct?

Why do not search the general LV forum, and if you do not find an answer, post your question in a separate post!
If you use an Event structure, make an event for the button, and put a subVI there. If you set the subVI as a dialog VI, it will pop up.
But there are many many different solution for this, all depending on your actual requirements.
Specify exactly what is your goal, and make a new post in the general LabView forum.

Thanks to both of you for attempting to help. I finally figured out what was wrong . . . it was a Permissions problem. Very frustrating, but after scouring the troubleshooting tips I finally found the one that solved my problem. I had to add a User and give it Read/Write privileges to Lightroom. The file I had to add the User to was Hidden on my Mac, so that added an even bigger challenge to the mystery. Only a few days left on my trial version! I hope I have time to try it out!

How can I change the tip strip display time?

I would like to have the tip strip appear for a longer time, or even have it stay as long as the user hovers over the control. Any suggestions? I don't want to use an event structure because that would be major surgery on a legacy application.

I can't say for sure but I can say that I spent some time looking for that. I would think it is an INI tag if this is even possible. If there is no way to configure tip-strip behaviour then this is something for the idea exchange.
But it doesn't have to be major surgery. If you can do minor outpatient surgery then something like this could work for you. If not maybe it will help someone else.
I call this a drop-in vi because you don't modify the application you put it in. It just sits outside of the main loop.
This is a quick and dirty demo how you can use the caption for a tip-strip. It uses a subvi with an event structure that on mouse over copies the tip-strip text to the caption text. On mouse out it restores the caption.
The demo has some issues that would need to be resolved in production. The event loop should continue executing and exit based on a user event. Then the loop surrounding the tip-strip vi can be removed. But I wanted to keep this short and sweet.
Another improvement is to make the text stand out better by changing colors when the tip-strip text is in the caption.

How do I make a drop down menu selection show up in another web page?

What I am trying to accomplish is this. I have a page with various drop down menu selections that I want to transfer the selection to a secured web page. What happens now is once the selection is made it goes to the secure page but then the user has to again select the choice again. Is there way to keep the selection chosen in the linked page?

You can set the "selected" value in the second page based on the input from the first page.

Is it possible to use a multi-colored image (red tomato with green stem) as a rollover indicator for button selection for a DVD in encore

Have 6 Buttons and would like to use a red tomato with a green stem to indicate that button is being rolled over and selected?

Short answer - No. Two long answers - yes and yes.
Highlights can be only single color (two bit indexed color) and your image is not.
However, you can have up to 3 highlights using different colors for each one. So edit your image so you overlay 3 different colors (in photoshop layers, =1, =2, and =3). I would probably try the bottom layer as the red ball; then the white reflection, and then the green on top. When the highlight is active, all 3 colors show.
The other method is to use autoactivate (on a button) to go to a different menu that changes the image in the background for that button. You create multiple menus, with an ordinary state for all buttons in all menus, except for the "highlight" different for the "selected" button. Mouseover won't autoactivate, so this doesn't work on a computer the way you'd like.

My problem pertains to the parameter product_names. When I select either All or multiple product_names (that is when I select product X,Y and Z from the front end), the product names are passed in as a single string into the query. As a result of this the query prdt_nm in (:product_names) fails as it trys to find all the product_names with value "'X','Y','Z'" instead of selecting on values 'X', 'Y', 'Z' separately. Thus the query is failing for multiple select. Can anyone suggest as how to handle this condition?

The output from my OC4J terminal with debugger turned on is
The sql query at run time looked as: prdt_nm in (:product_names)
Parameter value substituted as:
[101609_022156559][][STATEMENT] 1: product_names:'X','Y','Z'.
So I assume that the data template recvd this parameter as an string " 'X','Y','Z' ".
Just out of curiosity, I tried the same without using data template , just using plain SQL query, the output from the OC4J terminal is as follows:
In the query the parameter product_names is replace as prdt_nm in (:product_names2905,:product_names2906,:product_names2907) and the values are substituted as
[101609_022637635][][STATEMENT] 1:X
[101609_022637635][][STATEMENT] 2:Y
[101609_022637635][][STATEMENT] 3:Z
So from this you can see that BI publisher is some how handling the data template's parameter parsing differently from plain sql query.
Tim, I am not familiar with pre-fetch triggers as I am new to PL/Sql. Is there someway to handle this at the query level instead of writing a PL/SQL function.

"Document Numbering" & "Relate Series To Document" Menu Selection

Hi Guys,
I am confused with the database that I am seeing. I am currently running SBO 2007A (8.00.177) PL 38.
I have 2 databases both are the same version 800177 but I am seeing a strange thing.
In the one database under "Administration -> System Initialization -> Document Numbering" I am seeing two selections namely: "Relate Series To Document" and "Numbering Series"
In the other one database under "Administration -> System Initialization ->" I just have one menu selection called "Document Numbering"
I am confused. Can someone please tell me why for the document numbering I have seeing two different menu items and windows to define number series and assign it to the documents.

Can you please check in both of the Databases whether under Administration > System Initialization > Company Details > Basic Initialization Tab > Permit More than one document type per series is ticked.
In which the above will be ticked, the two windows will show whereas where the above tickbox is not checked the one window of Document Numbering will be shown.
