Title Tool question

Hello, This is my first post here but I'm sure I'll be a frequent visitor as I have recently crossfaded to Premiere from FCP. When using the title tool with a template preset, is there a way to add a transparent gradient to a graphic? And is there a way to crop a graphic inside Title? If not in the title tool, how can I add a transparent gradient to a graphic or video?

No crop tool inside the Titler.  Depending on what you want to do, you can apply a Crop effect on the title clip.
Was that a 60 frame crossfade?
Mine was a 6 frame Push.  Right after FCPX came out.

  • Title Tool questions...

I'm a professional feature doc editor new to Premiere from FCP7.  I'm creating titles in a project and running into very annoying inconveniences with the implementation of titling in Premiere.  I understand how it's working -- each title references a particular instance, so changing a title using the tool changes all other instances of that title.  But this is causing me hell and I don't understand why it works that way...
To modify a title without changing previous versions of my timeline, here's what I have to do:
    1. Open the title tool.  (okay, fine.)
    2. Create New Title.   (sure, if you insist)
    3. Name the new title (Why doesn't it populate the name with the previous name!?)
    4. Edit the title (great).
    5. Find the title I've created in the Project (why can't I send titles to a specific bin?! -- or can I?)
    6. Hold Alt & drag the title into its old position (ugh mouse mouse mouse -- is there a keyboard command that would do this?).
    7. Find the title I've created in the Project again.  Move it to a bin with the other titles.
In FCP it worked like this:
    1. Edit the title.
To create a new title based on an old title in Premiere here's what I have to do:
    1. Open the title tool.  (okay, fine.)
    2. Create New Title.   (sure, if you insist)
    3. Name the new title (Why doesn't it populate the name with the previous name!?)
    4. Edit the title (great).
    5. Add the title to the project.
    7. Find the title I've created in the Project.  Move it to a bin with the other titles.
In FCP it worked like this:
    1. Copy & Paste an old title.
    2. Edit the title.
Keeping separate versions of my timelines is critical (and totally logical and professional), so I hate, and am basically SCARED, that changes I make in a current timeline could affect (without my being alerted!) stuff elsewhere in the project.  Is there a good reason it's implemented this way?  Is there any corollary to FCP's "Make Clip Independent" command?  I'm happy to learn a new program, and happy that Premiere is working to build something better than FCP7, so does anyone have any suggestions to streamlining my process here?  (the alt & drag tip I learned from a search).
I suppose in the rare case where I use the exact same title several times in a project, this behavior could be useful.  But that happens much more rarely than when I edit (or even create) any one particular title.  Couldn't Adobe at least give us the choice to make them independent?
    Thanks,
    - Nels

ALt Drag a Title creates a unique new instance. of the Title. Edit it as you wish and it will  update "automatically"
Titles I make seem to always go to the Graphics Folder I have Open in the BIn.
    "Create New Title Based on"
    Rename it
    Opens Title
    Edit it ( obviously)
Use the Replace with or insert it where you want.
In FCP it worked like this:
    1. Copy & Paste an old title.
    2. Edit the title.
Surely you had to edit it too or could it read your mind.

  • Title Tool - text rendring too soft/blury

    Hi,
used the Premiere Title Tool occasionally and always got to soft/blury text rendering - it seems optimal for old CRT tubes and interlaced video but looks bad on a 1080p 4:4:4 timeline
If for example I want to add some Text to a imported Photoshop PSD title it doesn't match - because the Premiere Title Tool added text looks soo blurry and washed out compared to the text from the PSD title...
hmm - don't found any setup properties to turn off blurring or something like that...

    Hi,
thanks for your replys... so it's a real thing that the title tool is rendering very softly...
--> No it's not a preview thing - I'm on MPE GPU mode and don't render previews.
--> I output my sequences to 2K JPEG2000 in 4:4:4 mode (D-Cinema) so titels have to be crisp and sharp - but even for a Bluray output that's too much antialiasing.
The titel tool is handy if I want to add some words to a existing title or insert some "PRESS COPY" overlay or something like that.
Question: Is there a hidden setup value for antialiasing to tweak?

  • Boris title tool does disappearing act

Usually I use 2 monitors but one is in the shop. Now when I go to open Boris 3d title tool, the tool opens up off screen (I know this because when I use expose it comes back to my only monitor). There seems to be no way for me to get the 3d title tool to open in my one and only monitor.
I have done all of the usual stuff - trash FCP preferences, use disk utility, but no luck. Anyone run into this? Are there Boris preferences to trash?
Man, this really blows. All I had to do was alter 4 titles and I was done.
Oh, that's the way it goes.

Try rebooting with Command-Option-P-R held down. If that doesn't work, try Command-Option-O-F. When a gray screen with a prompt comes up, type:
    reset-nvram (Return)
    reset-all (Return)
Be sure you haven't left an adapter attached to the monitor port when doing this.

  • Possible that BORIS 3D title tool has EXPIRED?

    Most peculiar....
I had been using the Boris 3D title tool in my fcp 5.0 a few weeks ago. Love it.
Now that I'm back on the project and needing to use it again, it doesn't appear under my effects tab. (neither the effects drag down menu or the effects tab within my project window)
Is it possible it was only a trial version? Why would it not appear as an option?
    Any ideas would be welcome.
As always, thanks to this forum.
    Mark

Thanks for the help -- but my Boris doesn't seem to be anywhere.
I'm able to open the previous 3D titles, but I can't find the Boris tab anywhere.
Is there a way to save the existing Boris 3D title into my effect favorites so that I don't have to keep going back to the old sequence to initiate a new title?
    thx.

  • Title Tool not updating / saving when making revisions

I've made a few Title's in Premiere Pro and saved them as templates to use through out my production. With CS6 I'm having some issues with it. I'll create a new Title file from a template and make the chages. Everything works fine for a while, but then the changes I make within the title tool do not save after exiting the title tool. The text just reverts back to the point were it stopped working. If I restart Premiere it works again, but only for a while. I think this is a bug, but if anybody has a solution please let me know. Thanks

Wow, with so many reporting similar, there must be something to it, but I have just never encountered it, and I do tons of Titles. The changes always update instantly for me.
Maybe state the Sequence Settings, where this is happening, and where your Title appears (Video Track), relative to other Clips?
I cannot help but think that this is Sequence, or Project specific, and that is why many others have never encountered it.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • People anyone know because the logo in title tool is not working?

    people
    anyone know
because the logo in title tool is not working?

    A little more information, please:
    Version of PPro?
    Operating system?
Exactly what are you doing and what happens?
A screen shot would be helpful.

  • Title Tool bug / Trying to use PPro in a professional setting

Create several titles, everything is fine, copy and paste the clips further down the timeline and when I try to revise the title it will not show the video behind the title, it either shows black or checkerboard. Even if I create new titles it won't show the video backround, BUT if I copy and paste everything in a new timeline it all works fine.
How can I view the title tool in my broadcast monitor through Aja 3G?   How can I zoom in the canvas in the title tool when working with small disclaimer type?
How does the type size slider numbers relate to either scanlines or point sizes?  Why are the values not the same as AE they're both adobe products?
Trying to use Premiere for mid-high end spot finish, multitude of the sorts of bugs making it difficult.

The problem stated below really burned me try to conform a series of national spots, had to run to final cut to get the job done.
m trying to work out an offline-online workflow strategy with PPro55. I have ALEXA PR4444 LogC files and corresponding externally-converted "edit proxies" (PR LT w/LUT & TC burn). I am editing with the "proxies" and then want to swap the files out for the full-res PR4444 camera files. File names, TC and reel numbers all match between the two sets of files.
I have attempted to use Project Manager to create a "trimmed, offline" project and then relink the clips to the camera originals. When I do this, the timeline clips all start at the start-point of each file and not the correct in-point. I presume this is a bug. Anyone else tried this with success? The same method works perfectly in FCP 7. Also in PPro55, if I export a CMX 3600 EDL and then import and relink the EDL, it also works properly. Thoughts?

  • Title tool VideoFrameFactory error message and crashing

I have located a few mentions of this error among other users, but no Adobe response and no clear solution. In PP CS6, I am now getting a an error message every time I open the title tool: ../../src/VideoFrameFactory.cpp-78. About half the time it also crashes. Frustrated! I am trying to complete a two minute video and this portion is taking hours as I keep needing to open up the title tool related panels and to re-start the computer. Please help if you can.

I too have been having the same issue for weeks now.
    I'm using Premiere CS6 6.0.3 creative cloud.  VideoFrameFactory.cpp-78
Whenever I open a title, or make a new title, I receive the error.    Then I can do one of 2 things...
    1.  I can close the title, it will save, and then I can exit Premiere and restart Premiere.  Upon opening a title, I will get the error message again.
    2.  I can open another Title (instead of closing Premiere).  I will then get the same error message (videoframefactory.cpp-8), but then Premiere will crash.  This is 100% occurance rate... If I receive the error, and I dont want premiere to crash, I must exit before opening another title.
I have seen this posted since 2010.  Any chance of a fix?  I tried various other leads... such as font re-installs, and deleting a WorkspaceConfig file.  No luck with either of these.   Also tried a few iterations of Nvidia drivers, uninstall and reinstalls.
Any chance of  some assistance?  Has anyone else found a fix?   Every day I use the creative cloud, it feels more and more like I'm paying a monthly fee to be a beta tester...

  • Title tool problem - aspect ratio changing

I'm having a bit of trouble with the title tool in premiere pro cs6. I've never had this happen before. I've got my video in the timeline and it is displayed and edited to the correct aspect ratio (4:3) but when I bring up the title tool to add text over it the video changes aspect ratios to that of a mobile phone vertical (9:16ish). I've attached an image that shows what I'm having trouble with. Any help is appreciated!

If you open a new the title you are presented with a dialog box with the heigth and width and aspect ratio.
Check it that is the same as your timeline.
Existing titles you can check in the project window or clip info.

  • Video quality deteriorates when using title tool or color.

hi there, I'm currently editing a HD project in FCE 4,0,1. All goes well, except when I use the title tool (lower thirds) or when I use color to adjust a certain shot. When using color, the movements begin to jitter. When using the title tool, the video in the background + the title itself becomes pixelated, meaning that the quality drops far below the original HD quality. The bad quality remains when exporting the movie. When I move the title just a tiny bit, the quality goes back to regular HD, but when I render it, it goes back to inferior video. Any ideas, suggestions, insights, ... ? Thank you

    Hi(Bonjour)!
    Welcome to the forum.
    Did you render the timeline?
What are the original clip format/codec ?

  • Drop shadow disappears when I close title tool?

I'm using Premiere Pro CC. I have created a title in title tool and I have added a drop shadow. I can see the drop shadow when I still have the title tool open.
Once I close the title tool window the drop shadow disappears? I have tried different fonts nothing seems to work. Don't know what else to try?

It's not really a bug, it's by design.  Hardware acceleration processes things differently.
If you're on CC, you can also leave hardware acceleration on and go into the Sequence settings and uncheck Composite in Linear Color.

  • FCP title tool - left justified text

I'm just generating basic titles within FCP using the built in title tool (not Motion or Live), and need to make some left justified title cards. Centering the text works fine, everything fits on screen. But, when I select "left" justification, the font STARTS in the center of the screen and I lose the last few words off the right side of the screen! When I try to move the font with wireframe, I can place the text manually where I want it, but the words are still cut off on the right side. I know there must be a simple solution to this... right?

Don't move the text by using the wireframe. This just moves the whole layer and you will see the text being but at the border. You need to use the "Origin" parameter to position the text.

  • Bring foreign text doc into title tool / project

Hi: I'm editing on CS4 and have 4 foreign language videos to edit.  I tried this on CS3 and it worked but doesn't seem to work on CS4.  I have a word doc on my desktop, the computer sees it as a text doc as word is not on the edit computer.  I tried to cut it and paste it into the open title tool, but it doesn't seem to work.  How can I bring a foreign text doc into my project?  My system is a new PC workstation running XP professional so its got the capability to read Portugiese and Polish.  I have to install the Cantonese font.  Thanks, Christine

Okay, I've got it working now.  What I had to do is open the word doc on my office computer and resave it as an rtf rather than txt to keep the special fonts.  I took it over to the workstation.  SInce it was rft it could open it and all I had to do then was cut and paste it into the title tool.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Title tool issue

I can't see the image from my timeline in my title tool.  Have I inadvertently clicked something to remove it?

Thanks.  Tried that.  It shows up in the highlighted panel but I can't get the image or the type to appear in the main window.
