TM/manual HD management question

I'm new to TM and the external HD, and I have time machine going right now, but I am starting to wonder if it will let me manually manage what I can put on the external HD (I bought it so I could take the large imovie files that eat up my computers HD, and shift them on to the external, and deleting the original off the comp's HD, therefore freeing up some space on my comp.). Will all this work, or should I shut off TM and just use the sofware that came with my Maxtor external HD? Thanks

You should not be creating any object in the system tablespace. All user objects should be in the users tablespace, or other tablespace created for the purpose.
The only objects in the system tablespace are those created by the Oracle install scripts (e.g $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catalog.sql) , and you really should not be making changes to them unless recommended by Oracle Support, install document, patch document etc. The only thing you need to check is to either :-
1. make sure there is free space in the system tablespace by resizing the datafiles (select from dba_free_space and dba_data_files)
or
2. make sure autoextend is turned on for one system tablespace datafile with proper maxbytes and increment_by, and sufficient free space on disk for the file to extend.

  • Manual Font Management Questions

Hi. First, thanks in advance for any advice. I appreciate it.
I've recently taken up comic book lettering and as such, have acquired a massive amount of fonts. I've tried a couple of the management software (Suitcase Fusion and FontExplorer X) and haven't been able to work with them the way I'd hoped. Furthermore, they all (including the native FontBook) sandbag my system and grind it to a crawl.
So, even though it's a giant pain and extremely tedious, I think I'll manually edit and remove unnecessary fonts to pare things down and organize them in apps like Adobe CS5. And group them. My questions are 1) can you have folders inside the font library folder the system draws from (for organization purposes)? I ask because there are none in there. 2) I've been working (I've already started with a small folder elsewhere) with a copy of the font directories. When I finish, would I just delete everything, then copy my altered version (including some renamings) into place (w/ or w/o folders -- tbd)? Or is there a proper way to remove and replace fonts than just moving to trash?
Thanks again! I (virtually) bow to your vast knowledge. (Pandering works around here, right?)

Uh...  Kappy, I've got every font on my machine (except for /System/Library/Fonts fonts) in subdirectories inside the assorted Fonts/ directories.  This is a subset of FontFolio11 that we use for editorial:

  • Manual Segment Management  - Learning Question

I'm currently trying to learn as much as I can and am still new at it. Does anyone know of a good book or link that talks about manual segment management? Most of what I have found is a very short blurb that doesn't really discuss specifics. I would like to know what tasks a dba needs to regularly do when a tablespace is set up as manual.
I feel pretty confused and have a specific question*. Sorry if it is a dumb question... I know a lot of you don't like questions that you feel are beneath you. If you don't like the question, please just ignore it and don't gripe me out.
If the datafile is set to autoextend and the segment management is manual and the extent management is local is there any specific task a dba needs to perform for autoextend to work? ( I guess the mixing of manual and auto terms is kind of confusing me) In this specific instance I am most interested in the system tablespace specifically (the dev box I'm learning on is setup that way).
thanks in advance to those with patience to answer someone who is learning,
    Cara

  • Project Management Question - timelines for Production system deployment

    Hi
I need an expert advice on setting up timelines for establishing an Oracle Apps Production environment. We are implementing Oracle HR & Payroll at an organization.
Our system architecture is a 2-node application tier and 2-node DB tier (RAC). RAC is configured by another party and we only have to prepare the application tier (2 nodes)
We would be installing Oracle Apps R11i (11.5.10) with jserv load balancing on the 2-nodes
Can anyone suggest how much time this should take to install/configure & patching of the application tier (on 2 nodes)?

  • Another color management question

    Hi folks,
Apologies for yet another color management question, but Im getting very confused and could do with some help. I use a Canon 10D and Canon 30D. Ive come to LightRoom from Pixmantec Raw Shooter.
As Ive gotten more serious about producing high quality images for both the web and as prints, I thought Id invest in the Colorvision Spyder2 calibration product. So my monitor is now calibrated (quite a difference from what I was seeing!) and I have a calibration profile applied.
My needs are pretty obvious I want my images to look the same wherever theyre viewed including exported files (such as JPEGs) whether this be on my monitor (in LightRoom, a web browser, Paint Shop Pro, whatever) and on a printer.
Perhaps Im getting confused because Im trying to compare what LightRoom does with what RawShooter does.
In RawShooter, when exporting from RAW to JPEG, I can specify the RGB Working Space Im using and then select my monitor profile. I think that what happens is that the export mechanism takes this profile into account and, low and behold, the JPEG looks fine when viewed in any web browser - the colours are exactly the same as in RawShooter. In Paint Shop Pro they look fine too unless I enable Color Management in which case (Im guessing) the monitor profile is, essentially, applied twice! But the upshot is I seem to get the results I want.
What I cant figure out is how I do this in LightRoom. I can make the same adjustments to the RAW image as I did in RawShooter, but there doesnt seem an option for me to select my profile on export to JPEG only the standard 3 color spaces. Anyway the result is a JPEG that looks somewhat different when viewed in a web browser, or Paint Shop Pro with Color Management turned off. However, if I turn Color Management on in Paint Shop Pro, then it looks fine. So Im assuming that my profile isnt accounted for when exporting JPEGs from LightRoom.
So any pointers or explanations would be really appreciated. I also acknowledge that this is my first foray into color management, and feel free to tell me to go and read some introductory article (link please!) and then come back with a sensible question if thats whats needed!
    Thanks in advance.
    - Pete

    Lightroom color management.
a.) Monitor profile used: The profile set as the default in your operating system (e.g. Windows xp). (your monitor profile software usually does this when you calibrate/profile your monitor).
    b.) Working space: ProPhotoRGB
c.) Export color space: You can choose one of the following sRGB; Adobe RGB or Pro Photo RGB.
There is no option (afaik) to change a.) or b.) the option you choose in c.) will affect how the exported image will be displayed in color managed applications or non-color managed applications.
Non-color managed applications are not able to display Adobe RGB or Pro Photo RGB correctly. I guess if you wish a consistent display of your images in color managed and non-color managed applications then the only common factor is sRGB and you should export your images in sRGB color space.
The benefits of the other expanded color spaces are in printing and you also would have to get this end of your color management correct. Printing profiles to match your printer and each paper being used etc.
Until you can get this all sorted out you will get better results from sRGB, this is also applicable when using most commercial printing services.

  • Manual pga management for Batch processing.

    I am curios.
    I this link
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams202.htm#sthref833
    Oracle has a note saying:
SORT_AREA_SIZE is retained for backward compatibility.
Then, in the same page, it says:
You might want to adjust this parameter for decision support systems, batch jobs, or large CREATE INDEX operations.
I was reading Tom Kyte's book and suggests using manual memory management (to use workarea_size_policy=manual and setting hash_area_size and sort_area_size) when you are running batch jobs.
Is the Oracle Link saying that it will get rid of sort_area_size maybe? (Since it says backward compatibility)?

    Oracle has a note saying:
SORT_AREA_SIZE is retained for backward compatibility.Oracle 9i introduced automatic sizing of work areas, making it possible to simply set a "global" parameter for the aggregate size of work areas used by dedicated sessions, and ignoring abc_area_size parameters.
This makes for Oracle to learn from and tune itself.
    More info:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96524/c08memor.htm#14491
Is the Oracle Link saying that it will get rid of
sort_area_size maybe? (Since it says backward
compatibility)?Current direction is "self-manageability" and I'd say that older, manual, fine-tuning parameters are on their way out to support this direction....

    Hello,
There is a scenario where a questionnaire is required to be created at the time of 'Opportunity Creation' in order to perform some checks. This is required to be incorporated within the opportunity flow. example: <i>based on the asnwer in question the status of the opportunity would change.</i>
    In this context:

  • How to change manual segment management to automatic? and vice versa

how to change manual segment management to automatic? and vice versa
i can't find any option for that in EM
    Thanks

    Paolo Marin,
The original wants to change from Freelist management to Automatic Segment Space management - the URL you supplied is about converting from Dictionary Managed tablespaces (DMT) to Locally Managed tablespaces (LMT).
In passing - the article you reference says: First, MAKE sure to take a full backup of the tablespace and all related tablespaces (inter-tablespace referential integrity) before running this procedure:. There's no such thing as 'tablespace referential integrity', but (a) it would be a good idea to make sure that no-one else is using the database whilst you do a conversion, and (b) it's the system tablespace that holds the data dictionary so that's the one other (really important) tablespace you have to back up before starting.
There is a very old note about the limitations of doing the DMT -> LMT conversion here: http://www.jlcomp.demon.co.uk/book_8i/ch_08.html#Extent%20Management

  • Migration LONG to LOB in manual space management tablespaces

    Hi everyone,
We have Netweaver 7.0 and Oracle 11g and we are considering to migrate our manual tablespaces to ASSM. The first problem we've found is we can't do that online due to the LONG data type. So we decided to migrate LONG to LOB first. Note 835552 says that for Oracle version 11g the conversion is from LONG to SECUREFILE. But we follow seeking notes and in 1426979 (Oracle 11g: SecureFiles - The new way to store LOB data) one of the prerequisites for the conversion is to use ASSM tablespaces.
At this point, we can't migrate (online) to ASSM due to LONG data and neither can migrate to SECUREFILE due to the ASSM.
My question is: is it possible to make the migration from LONG to SECUREFILE specifying in the brspace a new tablespace with ASSM?
    Thanks in advanced.

    Hello
It is in fact possible to reorganize segment to a specific target tablespace using brspace option -n|-newts
    brspace -u / -f tbreorg -a long2lob -o sapsr3 -s <source_tablesapce> -t allsel -n <target_tablespace_in_ASSM>
It is odd that in 11g you are not in ASSM, so you upgrade to that version and never performed tablespace reorg ?
620803 - Oracle 9i: Automatic Segment Space Management
The new ASSM function is available as of Oracle Release 9i. As of Oracle 10g, ASSM is already contained in the standard system, and new tablespaces are by default created as ASSM tablespaces.

  • File Manager Question, Airbrowser and others

    Hi There People
I am new to the BB game and have only had my Bold for 1 month and the PB for 2 weeks. I have to say that the BB telephone support is simply fantastic, even with a newbie like me.
I use the BBPB strictly for work, no games, no music, no nothing...except repair orders, small (very) repair manuals, and a parts/price list. Imagine my surprise when I tried to find the file system manager and was told by BB support it doesn't exist, and I would have to use a third party app...fine. Now I have a very simple excel made repair order that I loaded successfully into my BBPB via my desktop software. I have installed "airbrowser" successfully. My issue is that after I made a file named "Repair" and moved that excel file into it, I open airbrowser and can see this file, so far so good, but I cannot open it from that location (inside airbrowser) only from the factory PB file icon will it open, in the airbrowser there is not even a button "open" like in the OEM app.
    So my questions are :
    Is my airbrowser app defective?
For my needs, = make a simple repair order file that I can search through to find a specific customer, then find the repairs in his name.
Should airbrowser work or should I try something like "Files and Folders" that is talked about here
Should I scrap this idea, and go to something completely different (laptop), any suggestions? I am a field service tech and my needs are very basic for what I thought the machine was capable of doing. Please I really don't want a laptop.
Sorry if this post is too long as I am always trying not to forget some detail.  BTW I have used the search button and read 100 posts before writing this.
    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for that !
Yup my file is a .xlsb, which from what I am thinking, might not be supported by airbrowser. So basicaly I'll need to try different excel templates that is recognized by that app.
Yes I saw the "unsupported" button but it was browned out like dissabled so I just thought it was inopperative...of course this was the first time I used the app so I didn't know how it was supposed to look.
jarviser thank you for your input, if I have more questions I will revive this thred.

  • Cisco Call Manager Question

    Hi,
I have a quick question on the Cisco Call Manger.  Is it possible to have a Cisco call manager store a list of contacts, and then transfer all the list to any phone that registers to it?  Furthermore, if this is possible, will the contacts be stored in the phones volatile or nonvolatile memory?
    Thanks!
    Billy

in call manager the directory list can be search by ip phones
the rource is from the end users page/settings
these details are either entered manually by system admin
or can be automatic when you integrate with LDAP like Microsoft AD

  • Manually tabular form question

    hi all
i built a manually tabular form.
i want that this tabular for will used only to update , and without the option of insert new row .
two questions i have here according to the document :
    there is something called
    Adding Optimistic Lockingoptimistic locking
is that possible to do it if it's only an update form?
i've tried to do it and not really succeeded.
    second question is about collection
again is this possible to do it if i built only an update form ?
    thanks for quick response

    Hi Naama,
    >> i've created the package , it's show like it done but then i cannot see it.what seems to be the problem ?
I have no idea, but this is definitely something local in your database. Just drop the package and re-create it. If the Object Browser doesn’t show you the package, try to use SQL*Plus.
    >> what is the meaning of this package?
is this package active only in the tabular manually form ?.
This is a regular PL/SQL package, and with the proper privileges, can be used anywhere on the database, with or without APEX connection.
This package is “special” because it’s includes all you need to manage Optimistic Locking, which is characteristic to Web based applications. Other than that, you can use it whenever you need to manipulate the related table(s).
    >> the apex know in which part to relate in the package right ?
APEX don’t know anything. When you are building a manual tabular form, it is also your responsibility to construct the proper DML processes. If you want your tabular form to support insert/update/delete you’ll need to construct three processes, each with the proper DML statement, each condition by the proper button. In your private case, as you need to support update only, you’ll need to build only one DML process (PL/SQL anonymous block), which will call the proper update procedure from the package.
    >> thank you
    Naama
Wow! You signed your name correctly :) You should amend your handle to reflect that.
    Best Regards,
    Arie.

  • Newbie color management question

    hi folks
using cs4. just finished a cmyk job on a new press. colors on the final print job were pretty faithful to what i saw on my monitor when doing the design, with a few exceptions that i'd like to tweak if possible. i'm new to color management, so looking for some pointers.
according to my research, the right thing to do is to request a colorsync or icm or icc profile from my press. i did...but my press was slightly confused and sent me a bunch of .icc files and i don't know which one to load. the press people are great people and it's a good press, but i got the feeling that they weren't asked this question a lot. so i ended up using u.s. web coated (swop) v2 as a profile, which is what they ultimately recommended.
so if i can't get an icc profile from my press, the other approach according to my research is to wing it and adjust the color profile on my own so that what i see on my monitor matches the printed output. in other words, i take the printed output and hold it up to my screen and manually adjust the color profile settings. i believe this is done in photoshop under edit-->assign profile and/or edit-->color settings, and then sync the color management for all applications using the bridge. or maybe this can be done in indesign? i'm asking the question on this forum because of the great responses i've gotten here.
i don't want to screw things up and i'm a newbie with this, so... any advice out there? my basic situation is that the colors were reasonably faithful but there was a very curious thing where a c=0,m=0,y=35,k=15 color looked very green on the printed page even though it was a mellow looking yellow on my monitor. i want to try to adjust that.
    thanks.........

Do you have a colorimeter and monitor profiling software? That's the place to start any color managed workflow. You also need a reasonably good monitor that CAN be calibrated. If the monitor isn't accurately showing you the colors, then nothing you do is going to matter.
Matching the monitor to the print is an old technique that works only when you have a closed loop where all work is output on the same press under the same conditions. The purpose of using device independent editing spaces, such as Adobe RGB, is that in theory any properly calibrated monitor will display the image the same, and you can convert to any known output space at the time of output.
Terms like mellow looking yellow are pretty subjective, so I don't know what you were expecting, but I wouldn't expect 35y, 15k to be very bright, nor very yellow. While I wouldn't describe the color as green on my monitor, it certainly doesn't resemble a banana, and next to a brighter yellow one might call it greenish by comparison. It's really a light yellowish gray,I think.
I'm putting up a comparison here to see what it looks like, but colors won't be accurate in a browser.
