TNS timeout unless I restart the listener

Using Net8 8.1.6 NT trying to connect from SQL*Plus on a client machine. I get the error ORA-12535: TNS: operation timed out. If I then restart the listener on server I can connect OK. This makes me think my tnsnames entries on client are OK. Can anyone suggest what might be wrong that is fixed by restarting the listener?
Thanks.

Two things, first see if it shows up in "Apple > About This Mac > More Info.. > Disc Burning" . If you still see it there the system still recognizes it but it isn't responding. Next do a

  • Having lots of problems with my firefox. It does not download when I click unless I restart the firefox many times. It does not open a new windows. Help please!

    2 problems:
    1. Files aren't downloaded when I click download. It only downloads after I restart the firefox many times.
    2. New windows aren't being opened.
Help please. I've encountered the first problem since way back, but it wasn't this severe, now the downloading is very limited as I have to restart firefox many many times.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Some security software is also able to block new window.
Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • When I use Firefox to monitor changes I do to HTML files locally, it does not show changes to images unless I restart the browser. Is this a bug?

I have the local and the remote versions of a page open in two tabs. I change one of the images (keeping the same name in the HTML) and upload the changed image. The tab that shows the remote page only takes a refresh to show the change. The tab showing the local page not. I have tried opening it in a new window but it still does not change. Only if I restart Firefox does it show the change. Why? Is this a bug?

grantheaslip's suggestion doesn't work for me; no change at all. (Thanks anyway.) Any other ideas? Is there another way to "hard" refresh? I don't see anything in the menu.
Also, it seems like this is a very recent problem. I thought in the past that a regular refresh did the job.

Within the last two months or so my emails will not load all the time, now I am at a point of restarting everyday to get my emails synced. And maybe it will sync twice a day regardless of how many times I check for them.

  • "TNS-12535: TNS:operation timed out" error after listener restart

    I have two related questions:
    Scenario 1:
    1. I have two remote Windows machines with database on each. One is Win 2003 Server (machine A) and another one is Win XP (machine B)
    2. I can ping from A to B.
    3. I can ping from B to A.
    4. I can tnsping from A to B.
    5. I CAN'T tnsping from B to A.
    6. Windows Firewall on both machines are off.
What could be possible reason for point# 5?
    Scenario 2:
    Now, the second part:
    1. I had an unwanted entry in tnsnames.ora on B which I removed.
    2. Then I restarted the listener on B. Actually, I wanted to restart the one on A to check if that resolves issue mentioned in point# 5 above.
    3. I tried tnsping from A to B but suprisingly it is also giving "operation timed out" error now. So now tnsping not working from either sides.
I didn't make any changes in listener.ora on B, just stopped it and started again. Only change made was removing unwanted entry in tnsnames.ora on B.
Why does that affected database connectivity from A to B which was working fine previously?
If any extra information needed please let me know, and thanks in advance for your answers.
    - Ramesh

  • Can't modify TNS timeout on database client outgoing request  -

    Dear all,
I have two Oracle Database connected by dblink over TCPIP. One is a client for the other.
When my client application (in db client) try to retrieve data from the db server and this one is shutdowned, It receives this message ORA-12535 "TNS:operatin time out" (no bad !) but after at minus 2 minutes and sometimes too long time. This is not good for my client application. I need about 30 sec for this application. When I launched oerr tools -with this sqlcode 12535 - to get some explanation, Oracle talks about CONNECT_TIMEOUT parameter in listener.ora file, I did not think this was relation with my issue (because I want to connect and not to listen) but I tested and it did not work.
Is someone know how to manage this time out ?
    Tkanks by advance
    Regards.

    I Frederic,
    Thank for your reply.
Yes I restarted the listener after the update - I also tested dynamic mode with set command ....- but it didn't work.
I think like I previously said CONNECT_TIMEOUT is not the good parameter because this is for the listener and for my client db I don't need it.
The server machine is sometimes under stress because many access and many applications and sometimes we have to do some maintenance works. I need to get an acceptable response time in timeout to switch all requests to another server.
    Regards.

  • XE is not registering with the listener

    hi forum,
i installed oracle xe on an empty xp box. everything went smoothly but - like for so many others - my db homepage is not showing (http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex). but thats a different story.
i can connect with sqlplus, i can create, insert into and select from tables. tnsping is resolving localhost, xe, puss (my xp host name), 127.0.0.1 as well as the host ip (192.168.1.102).
my problem is that the db instance doesn't seem to register with the listener, so that when i do a sqlplus andy/passwd@XE i get the german version of what would be ORA-12514: TNS: Listener can't resolve service listed in connect discriptor
when i do a lsnrctl status i get the following:

Der Befehl wurde erfolgreich ausgeführt.the german msgs say that everything is in order basically, but what is certainly not in order is that there is no XE listed.
show parameter local_listener; revealed: no local listener set.
    alter system set local_listener=XE; or
alter system set local_listener='(address=(protocol=tcp)(host=puss)(port=1521))'; and then
alter system register; didn't make the instance show in listener status
i would at least expect to see the attempt to register in the listener.log but nothing.
when i added the host to SID_LIST in listener.ora the instance was listed in the listener status, but status remained unknown, what ever i tried.
i know that there are other threads dealing with the same issue, but none of the solutions provided worked for me.
i am in a home network with two other macs connected via wlan. my firewall is turned off. i've tryed every combination of tnsnames.ora and listener.ora settings but nothing worked. after 13 hours of trail and error, reading a lot, wiping the whole box and reinstalling everything from scratch, sitting in front of my vanilla xp plus oracle xe installation, i'm tyred. i need your help.

Working with your Operating System’s Tools
You simply need to find out which process is keeping those files open/ blocked. In fact it's quite likely that your PSE never quits correctly due to some issue on your system and that keeps those files in use...
