TNSNames - Connect database over HTTP protocol - Webservices

Hi,
I just want to know whether I can connect oracle over HTTP protocol instead of TCP/IP protocol in TNSNames.ORA. I'm trying to connect Oracle database which is out of network (over internet). Is this possible? If yes, how secure it is? Can I use HTTPS for secure connection?
Here is some background, previously we had two different databases within our network and we used database link to connect to the other database. Now, the database is going out of our network (seperated as different company). And we still need to use that database and we don't want to connect to database via NAT IP address.
We are looking for some solution probably HTTP protocol connection in TNSNames.ORA (if possible) or webservices. Regarding webservices in Oracle, I can see some documents that uses UTL_DBWS and Oracle XML DB to handle this. I'm not sure how to expose webservice from Oracle 10g database. Also, how secure is the Oracle webservice?
Appreciate any help on this.
Thanks
Kumar

Once more, missleading advices. It is not me who pursues the 'Hollier than thou' attitude, it is you who put yourself in the target.
You cannot connect directly to Oracle using the HTTP
protocol or HTTPS protocol.Yes you can, OraDAV has been available since Oracle 8i, as I have previously mentioned this was the first use of the Listener as an application server and supports protocols such as http and ftp. This feature is not widespreaded used because either people don't know about it or becuase it is easier to manage a regular Application Server. This was used about 6 or 7 years ago for the iFS feature. Today the OraDAV protocol is used for the Oracle Portal application to easy the life of non-technical people who contribute with contents to the portal. One more platform where OraDAV is used is in the Oracle XE, it supports the XE web administrator console and is the point of access of APEX.
If you could this would have been documented.
Did you read the documentation?Have you? It would not be the first time you recommend something you don't do.

    As I mentioned earlier, we are using MGCP for that particular fax port and the gateway we use as H323.
    Even I'm not pretty sure about using mixed protocol, I believe this gateway gonna used to support call center calls. SInce MGCP is easy for configs they might have confiugred only the port as MGCP endpoint.
    Now its not working with both the cases, not in mgcp as well as fallback mode. Can you reveiw the debugs and see why I have to remove "modem passthrough" command from voice service voip section which of our standard config and works well with all other gateway of ours. Please help here.

    Hi,
    According to the test result, there may be improper authentication method which your RPC virtual directory has.
    Start the Internet Information Service Manager, navigate to the Default Website and right click the RPC Virtual Directory. Navigate to the Directory Security tab and confirm if you disable the Checkbox for Enable Anonymous Access and enable the Basic Authentication
    checkbox.
    And here is a similar thread you can refer to:

    And we can also check the settings in the RPC virtual directory.
    If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

  • Http tunneling (t3 over http) doesn't work!!  (examples too)

    Hi,
    I'm trying to get http tunneling (t3 connection over http protocol) to work. I
    ran some examples included with Weblogic that try establishing that connection
    (PingTest, HelloApplet, SimpleT3Client), as well as my own test program, and they
    all give an error similar to this :

    Now, the server is started and working at that ip and port - it services web http

    it.
    Does anyone know the reason for this problem and/or how to fix it?

    It appears that one has to use the "Java Plugin" for this mode to work. The
    question is does the version of plugin need to be "in sync" with the JVM
    version on the server. ?.

    It seems that the solution is to have these two lines in the

    weblogic.httpd.tunnelingenabled=true
    Now it works.

  • Play an audio file over HTTP

    Hello everybody,
    I'm trying to play an audio file over HTTP protocol. The code is the following:
    public class HTTPClientJMF {
         static String url = "http://localhost/audio/Reklam1.wav";
         static String urlFile = "file:///C://tmp/audio/Reklam1.wav";
          * @param args
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              // TODO Auto-generated method stub
              try {
                   DataSource dataS = new URLDataSource(new URL(url));
                   dataS.connect();
                   Player player = Manager.createPlayer(dataS);
                   player.start();
              } catch (MalformedURLException e) {
                   // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                   e.printStackTrace();
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                   e.printStackTrace();
              } catch (NoPlayerException e) {
                   // TODO Auto-generated catch block
                   e.printStackTrace();
    }Now, if I'm trying to play the file from the local disk (+urlFile+ - using file protocol), everything goes well, but if I'm trying to play the same file from the network (using http protocol) I get the following exception:
    javax.media.NoPlayerException: Cannot find a Player for: javax.media.protocol.URLDataSource@fa9cf
    Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    Thank you!

    Ah',..okay. I constructed the DataSource like follows:
    Buffer mediaBuffer = new Buffer();;
              String mediaURL = "http://ares.inescn.pt/video/Reklam1.wav";
              URL url;
              try {
                   url = new URL(mediaURL );
                   InputStream in = url.openStream();
                   BufferedInputStream bufIn = new BufferedInputStream(in);
                   for (;;) {
                        int data = bufIn.read();
                        // Check for EOF
                        if (data == -1)
                             break;
                        else
                             mediaBuffer.setData(data);
                   System.out.println(mediaBuffer.getLength());
                   if (mediaBuffer.getLength() != 0) {
                        DataSource ds = new DataSource();
                        HttpStream[] httpStream = ds.getStreams();
                        System.out.println(httpStream.length);
                        httpStream[0].read(mediaBuffer);
                        ds.connect();
                        ds.start();
                        Player player = Manager.createPlayer(ds);
                        player.start();But I still cannot play an audio file (wav format) over the HTTP. Application starts but nothing happened.
    I make the modification like you suggested. (into the DataSource, more exactly for method getStreams()).
    I renamed as well the HttpDatasource into HttpStream.
    Did you actually tried the code? I've been reading the instruction how to test the code but I did not be able to run the example.

    I have a webservice which is hosted on sap xi server. My class in tomcat will call it over https protocol. For that, tomcat needs to import the xi certificate. • WCCP on ASA for FTP over HTTP

    Hello,
    We have a WSA appliance that we have in explicit mode and want to configure as transparent. The protocols we cache and analyze with WSA are HTTP, HTTPS, native FTP and FTP over HTTP.
    Is there a service number on WCCP for FTP over HTTP protocol? Or it is included within HTTP?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Best regards,
    Igor

    Igor,
    The service number 60 (ftp-native service) only applies  to transparent redirection of FTP native requests and does not apply to  FTP-over-HTTP requests.
    On the other hand; the Content Engine listens for redirected HTTP  requests on the standard HTTP port (default port 80). To enable the  Content Engine to listen for WCCP-intercepted HTTP traffic on ports  other than the default port, configure the custom-web-cache service (98 and 99) or a  user-defined WCCP service (services 90 to 97).
    I hope this helps.

    Juan Lombana

  • Webdynpro ABAP called from IView JAVA works over http but doesn't over http

    Hello gurus, like I said in the subject, we have integrated inside our JAVA portal a WebDynpro ABAP and it's working good over http protocol (http://<servername>:<http_port>/irj/portal), but when you browse the portal over https protocol (https://<servername>:<https_port>/irj/portal), everything works fine exept the WebDynpro ABAP, is like if the javascript components didn't be loaded completly, because the buttons doesn't make anything, and only half of the table that is supossed to be loaded is showed.
    Do you know what kind of configuration I'm missing?
    Thanks and best regards

    You have to note here that for webdynpro ABAP applications, the http/https request is actually served by the backend server.
    So, while accessing your webdynpro ABAP application, the request will be like:
    https://<mybackendserver>:<backendport>/bc/sap/.....
    While creating a system object in your portal (System landscape), you will need to adjust the protocol to https and also set the appropriate https port of the backend server. Also, HTTPS/SSL communication should be enabled on your backend server.
    Please check the definition of your system object.
    You can find more information by turning on a HTTP trace and checking how the request is routed to the backend server upon accessing the WD4A application.
    Thanks,

  • JDBC over HTTP

    Hi,
    I am wondering if there is some software that allow to communicate to a database over http.
    For example, an applet needs to do some queries to a database but the only access point is the web server host and port.
    Can we do that in a simple way or do we need to use some web services or object serialization between client and server ?
    Thanks !

    The application is only for management. I do not want
    to directly contact the database server threw jdbc
    but just for example :
    Client Applet -> servlet -> JDBC -> DBThis arrangement does not require HTTP to contact the database. JDBC is taking care of it. It's HTTP between the applet and servlet.
    >
    As you say there could be a problem with sensitive
    information but there are at least txo
    authentification : webserver side and database sideWebserver is for each user and can be role based. Database side should be an application credential that says the servlet can access the data. No need to spell each individual out to the database.

  • Problem in accessing webservice over https with auth cert enabled...Urgent

    Hi All,
    I am stuck in accessing webservices using ssl and auth certificate.
    I am using jdk 6 and it is not any issue with the problem I am facing...
    This is what I do...
    I have a webservice deployed which is accessible over https.
    On server, I run..
    - to generate keystoye
    keytool -genkey -alias tomcat-sv -dname "CN=<Server Machine Id>, OU=X, O=Y, L=Z, S=XY, C=YZ" -keyalg RSA -keypass changeit -storepass changeit -keystore server.keystore
    generate server certificate
    keytool -export -alias tomcat-sv -storepass changeit -file server.cer -keystore server.keystore
    On client, i run..
    To generate client keystore-
    keytool -genkey -alias tomcat-cl -dname "CN=<Client Machine Id>, OU=X, O=Y, L=Z, S=XY, C=YZ" -keyalg RSA -keypass changeit -storepass changeit -keystore client.keystore
    To generate client certificate -
    keytool -export -alias tomcat-cl -storepass changeit -file client.cer -keystore client.keystore
    Thne I import server's certificate into client keystore and Client's certificate to server's keystore by
    import server's cer to client keystore -
    keytool -import -v -trustcacerts -alias tomcat -file "C:\java\jdk1.6.0_10\bin\server.cer" -keystore client.keystore -keypass changeit -storepass changeit
    inport client's cer to server keystore -
    keytool -import -v -trustcacerts -alias tomcat -file "C:\jdk1.6.0_06\bin\client.cer" -keystore server.keystore -keypass changeit -storepass changeit
    when i try to call webservices through a java client (which is called by a python script), I get error as
    *"Exception while waiting for close java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: recv failed"*
    *"faultString: java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: recv failed"*
    complete log is as following

    Ask me if you want to know more details about my problem.
    This is very urgent and critical.. Many thanks in advance.

    Hi ejp,
    thanks for your reply. I did read your post in other thread that you pointed.
    I had searched quite a lot on this issue and had idea that it might be due to firewall settings..
    but sadly, I don't know the solution. Well, you have seen the entire code that I wrote and exception too, Could you suggest me a way out? or any specific firewall setting or a workaround?
    Please let me know if you need any other info from my side regarding the code.
    Thanks a Ton!

  • Making a call over HTTPS with LoadVars, XML.load(), and WebService - Yes or No?

    Hello, do LoadVars, XML.load(), or WebService support HTTPS-based endpoints, Yes or No?
    BACKGROUND
    ============
    I've been trying to get a LoadVars to actually make a call to an HTTPS endpoint. There is nothing in the documentation that says it can't. I know that there's also XML.load() and WebService class, but from the looks of it they don't do HTTPS.
    During my tests I have absolutely no issues with making calls to the same service over HTTP. When I change it to HTTPS I don't see HTTPStatus or even failures. Also, netstat on my server will show a connection being established with the endpoint when using HTTP but not when using HTTPS. I've also tried setting SSLVerifyCertificate to "false" in my Server.xml and after a restart of AMS it doesn't help, same symptom.
    I've also googled and looked through all Adobe forum posts that I can find:
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/4938426#4938426
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1661461

    WebService Class - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5619776/webservice-and-fms
    The best I found from the posts above is a non-commital answer from adobe staff at https://forums.adobe.com/message/4938426#4938426 and a 3rd party person saying that Webservice doesn't work at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5619776/webservice-and-fms.
    All I need is an official supported/not-supported from the Adobe staff. Shouldn't be to hard after 5 years or so of ignoring the questions in the forum right?

    Adobe, please provide some details to your current and possibly potential customers, in at least one of the many unanswered posts about making HTTPS requests from AMS.
    P.S.

    RealEyes Media has been an inspiration to me for many years, and I would like to thank them for their efforts to better the media streaming community.
    Also, would it be possible to please release the source to REDbug?

  • The dialogs doesn't show up over HTTPS connection.

    JWS usually shows Version check and Launching dialog when it start up.
    But when it started over HTTPS connection, those dialogs doesn't show up.
    When we use HTTP connection, the application launch by following step.
    1. Java loading dialog shows
    2. Version check dialog shows
    3. Launching application dialog shows
    4. Application launched
    However, in the case of HTTPS connection, step2, 3's dialog doesn't show up.
    (It might be skipped? What's going on?)
    I think that the step1,2,3 are processed by JavaWebStart.
    Is there any way to show these dialogs when we use HTTPS connection?
    Client: Windows XP(SP2), JDK: 1.4.2_06
    Web Server: WebLogic(ver.8.1)

    When running over http or file protocol, these dialogs are shown if the update check takes more than 1500 ms, when application must be updated before launching (due in 1.5.0 to offline-allowed not being specified, or setting <update check="always" /> in 6.0) (assuming target isn't using basic authentication). If the update check can complete in less time than that, then the dialogs will not be shown.
    For https, there is a probability that the attempted https connection will cause https security dialogs, which would then always cause the check to take more than 1500 seconds (or whatever timeout is configured) so webstart won't show the download progress dialog untill it knows there is an update.
    This should be a bug, since it is handled beter in BasicAuthentication case.
    If you are using Authentication, the download dialog will show up only after 1500 ms if the JAuthenticator chalange dialog is not being shown.
    Similarilly, using https, he dialog should show after 1500 ms (or whatever timeout) if the https security dialog, or host mismatch dialog is not showmin.

  • Why does Outlook 2010/2013 tries to connect by rpc over http in LAN?

    Hi All,
    I have Exchange 2010 (Two CAS) Published by TMG (Basic Authentication). Also outlook anywhere is configured with Basic Authentication.
    Some users have issues with "authentication prompt" (randomly). By the way, Outlook Clients(2007/2010/2013) are fully updated.
    What I can see when "authentication prompt" shows up, Outlook tries to connect by rpc over https.
    Is this a normal behavior?
    Regards
    Jo

    Hi,
    Firstly, I'd like to say, basic authentication requires user name and password. Thus, it's an expected behavior that credential will prompt once when users login Outlook with basic authentication.
    Additionally, I'd like to confirm how you confirm it's Outlook Anywhere when the credential prompts. Based on my knowledge, the credential issue may be caused by connectivity issue and we can confirm the connection method through the tool "connection status".
    Thus, I'd like to confirm if the connection is established when the credential issue happens.
    Press ctrl and right click Outlook icon>connection status>status, protocol
    Thanks,
