To The More Experienced People

Hi,
I know Java and I've worked on J2EE projects (I only worked on the EJB layer, not the Web layer). But despite this, I feel that I should know much more than I currently do in order to compete in the job market.
I want to learn:
1) Struts
2) Spring
3) SOAP
4) Web Services
and probably much more that don't come to the top of my head at the moment.
I can Google these things and learn on my own, I'm sure. But to be honest, all of the things I think I need to learn is so much - it's overwhelming. I don't know where to start or how to prioritize these things. I spoke to a headhunter the other day who told me he thinks Struts (or was it Swing, I don't remember) is becoming obsolete and will be replaced with some other technology (JSF?). This was news to me and made me even more confused on where to concentrate my efforts.
These things are probably not all that difficult to learn for someone at my level (an experienced developer and knowledgeable in Java/J2EE), but I really can't focus. Any of you go through that? Any insight on how to tackle things?

The off topic banter is harmless and has some positive aspects (it helps build a community). Please ignore it if you don't like it. On to your question(s).
I don't know where to start or how to prioritize these thingsWell, there is no rule about how to do this. Pick the ones that you think sound most interesting or that you think will be most applicable to the projects you're currently working in.
I spoke to a headhunter the other day who told me he thinks Struts (or was it Swing, I don't remember) is becoming obsolete and will be replaced with some other technology (JSF?)."Old" Struts is somewhat obsolete. There's a "new" Struts 2 that's less so. Spring is fairly hot. JSF is a plausible contender too. In my opinion none of them will win out - you'll find it useful to get some familiarity with all of them. If I had to recommend just one, I'd say give Spring a whirl (but I have a vested interest in that).
This was news to me and made me even more confused on where to concentrate my efforts.Headhunters will say anything. I wouldn't take any advice - technical or otherwise - from them. Worry about fellow technologists, not people who're paid commission on filling open roles. They'd tell you COBOL was the next big thing if they had a position to fill.
Any insight on how to tackle things?Follow a few Java-oriented websites (TheServerSide is pretty good). Learn something that you personally think is interesting as often as you can stand it. When a colleague mentions that another team are using JSpong, go and find out about it and try it out.
Maybe build a few side projects in your copious free time using one of them?

  • Hi, here's something for the more experienced to ponder.

Hi, here's something for the more experienced to ponder.
As of the past week or two my service has been taking nose dives periodically.
The telephone service has also been affected. (noise and static like squeals)
This is not a new problem, it has been ongoing for three years.
I have repeatedly asked for a new pair (copper) to no avail.
We went the route of replacement modems, data rate changes, Verizon presidential appeals and the problem "seems" to correct itself with cooler weather in the fall.
I called repair service for the telephone just Friday and met with an understanding person on Verizon's end. She heard the noise on the line and listened patiently to my internet troubles. She assured me that she could schedule someone to fix the problem on Saturday, 6/16/2012 I thanked her and let it go for Friday.
This morning at about 9:00 AM I got a call from a Verizon representative, not about the  problem, but rather about how the representative at repair service handled the call. I said the call handling was a ten on their scale. But when the question was asked about if I would recommend Verizon to someone, I had to ask that it could be repeated because of the noise on the line.
It's pretty obvious that I didn't give a good mark as the answer to that question.
But to the technical side of this to get people to ponder on this, here's my PRESENT Transceiver Statistics, copy and pasted for you to ponder....
    Transceiver Statistics
    Transceiver Revision     A2pB020b3.d20h
    Vendor ID Code               4D54
    Line Mode                        ADSL_2plus
    Data Path                         FAST
Transceiver Information    Down Stream Path    Up Stream Path
    DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec)                    358                         747
    Margin (dB)                                     16.0                         9.9
    Line Attenuation (dB)                      62.5                        38.3
    Transmit Power (dBm)                    15.5                         12.4
( NO EDITING WAS DONE TO THE NUMBERS ABOVE, Formatting was done, adding spaces, to attempt to make it clearer to read. )
I did not make any rude or crude remarks, because I think I may be on a watch list as my last two messages were edited and then deleted. But the bottom line is that I am not a "happy camper".
Further food for thought; my filter is located in the demarcation box, from there to the modem is a home run with approved wire. An additional filter is installed after the "voice line" comes into the house from the demarcation box for the whole house.
Line to the pole is new, maybe three pair, I don't remember. Distance to the central office is about two miles, BUT there is some sort of device installed in the lines between here and there, according to what was said by previous repair personnel.
This is the third year with these problems.
    Any thoughts?, anyone?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks Mr. Smith,
I'll try and get back in after the dust settles and let you know how it goes.
    If I can't, thanks again!

  • For the more experienced: MX440 MSI8891

    Question
is there a way to O/C the video card clock speeds at the power up level(like editing the video bios file)? I would like to have the clock speed set when the pc powers up and not through windows nVidia drivers and registrey values.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Somebody but Im looking to set the vid card like you use to set the CPU when there were jumpers. When you booted your system the CPU was running at what ever MGHZ you set. Or for that fact like you set the multiplyer and voltage now in the bios.
I am pretty finiky about Windows XP boot time and the monitor refreshing after the nVidia driver sets the clock speed if you adjust them through the drivers. I would rather have them set when the bios powers up. Hmmm I think I will have to look at the bios(a copy of course) and see what I can figure out.

Hi, I´m new at the community. My book about the life of a bull who died in a bull fight was a best seller in Perú, and is been studied in many schools there. But I don't live there any more. People ask me about the book and is not any more at the libraries. I would like to make a tradition to english, portugues, and may be another language that could be interesting to do.
I am a psychologist with an specialization in couple and family therapy. I am writing more and more material and the people who reads me are asking me more.
My mother thong is Spanish, my second Portuguese , and my third is english. I apologize if I make some mistakes trying to express myself.
The situation is that I need to upload my book to iBook and I don't know how to do it. If I can pass that step I will like to upload more material I am sure people will enjoy and learn as they did with my first one.
    I really appreciate any help.

What is the deal with people posting their personal information on here?
I am getting sick and tired of clicking the "Report this Post" button.
People need to seriously watch what's details they are posting!
The other day I reported a post that had full name, address, phone number, email, serial number, etc.
    It's starting to get frustrating.

Yes, you are correct, it can be a bit annoying reporting a post to be edited, but in the long run, we are still trying to help someone with a problem that they are having.
I just want people to realize that these forums ARE a public place and that the info they post may remain on the forums indefinitely if not removed by a host, and that everyone can read what is posted.
Just because these are Apple forums shouldn't make people lapse in their better judgement of posting personal details.

  • If I wanted to upgrade my iPod touch to the more expensive version, how long would I have to do so? (UK)

If I went to an Apple store in the UK with my 16GB iPod touch 5th gen and the receipt (do I 100% need a receipt?), how long after the purchase date am I allowed to get it replaced for the more expensive 32GB version? Is it the same as getting a refund (Jan 7th)?
Not having a camera on the back side of the iPod is just ridiculous, I don't honestly believe the majority of people would prefer to have a camera on the front rather than the back. I'd rather just get it upgraded.
    Thanks for any help.

..Is there any way I can trade it in for the 32GB iPod touch at the Apple store for it's RRP .
Sorry... Apple does not do Trade-Ins.
You would need to sell it privately and put whatever you get for it towards what you want to buy.

Well there are two or three causes of eyestrain with displays different people seem to have.
    1: Small type/UI elements
    2: Glossy screens
    3: Flicker rate
    1:
The higher pixel rate combined with the display set at the higher resolution is going to cause UI and type to be smaller and harder to see. In fact it's advised to set OS X to a lower resolouton so it upscales better to match the pixel of the higher display.
Reports coming in say watching HD 1920 x 1080 trailers on the anti-glare 17" is best as the pixel content matches the display almost fullscreen, where on the MBP-R it's upscaled and thus looks blurry.
HD content makers are NOT going to change all their video cameras to support 2880 x 1800 full screen, so in order to get a clearer image playing HD 1080 content, one will have to do so in a smaller window.
    2:
The new MBP-R dispalys are 75% less glossy, but not 100% less glossy like the anti-glare models so this can still cause some people problems. This can be lowered to under 1%, however I'm suspecting to do so would be considered giving up a military advantage to China where Apple gets it products made.
    3:
I don't know about the flicker rate if it's better or not on the MBP-R's than the previous screens.

  • HT1338 I have a problem with the aspect ratio of photos as they appear on iPhoto.  They are not correct.  On the original photo people were fat and squat.  I tried rotating and they became long and narrow.  Neither correct.

Sounds more like a problem with your Display Resolution than iPhoto.
Go to: Apple / System Preferences / Displays and in the Resolutions list select,
    1280 x 800 if you have a 13" MacBook Pro
    1400 x 900 if you have a 15" MacBook Pro
    1920 x 1200 if you have a 17" Macbook Pro

    I know these feels!
I took an Technology Coordinator ( which means I run our network, our servers, purchase, help desk, etc...) at a school, and the previous person relied on a MSP to do everything, but was really nice.
It was a huge mess when I got there, and it's still a huge mess, as those years of neglect and bad choices can't be fixed completely in the 6 months I've been there so far.

Welcome to the world. Murphy is a great guy. Greed is rampant so everything is about the dollars. Social skills and who you know carry more weight than hard skills and capability. Common sense isn't all that common. And nobody seems to understand the Law of Unintended Consequences anymore.
Everybody wants to socialize and be part of the community. People want to fit in and be part of the pack. So they hire and look for social first, skills second in so many cases. "My friend/uncle/associate/dog got me into a position in IT because they liked how I interacted." is something that is apparently a common trend. That all being said, I've seen and suffered from the other side of this coin...Several years ago I was pulled in temporarily to a technology position that I was told I couldn't get permanently because I didn't teach. This is cause by the way the App Store checks to see if an application is installed on your system.
Basically when an app is installed it is in the Applications folder and this is where the MAS looks for them. So it looks at your purchase history for the apps you bought and looks in the Applications folder to see if they are installed. If an app is in your purchase history but not in the Applications folder the MAS says you need to install it.
For normal apps this works fine but the OS doesn;t install into the Applications folder. So the MAS sees you have Mountain Lion in your purchase history but it's not in the Applications folder and so it says you need to download it.
Hopefully one of these days Apple wil fix this.

  • How to pack the More than one sales order delivery qty in one packing

    Hi Folks,
How to pack the more than one sales order quantity combinely during packing?
Thansk in advance and points wil be rewarded for the reply.
    Best Regards
    Srinivas

    Packing is done during Delivery.
In Sales order also Packing function is available but as a Packing proposal.
So actual packing is done in Delivery.
When you process several sales orders together, the sales order items having same Ship-to-party, Shipping point, Route, Delivery due date & Incoterm are combined into one Delivery in the standard system.
In the delivery overview screen,do the picking by subsequent function rom the menu bar, you will get a button "PACK", click on this system will take you to the packing screen.
In the packing screen, give the packaging mterial number, select the materials to be packed, select the packaging material also and the click on the "PACK" button.

I think my computer should run better with what I need to do in a day, But opening pdfs then attaching others in emails, my computer breaths hard and is slow.
It may have to do with watching webcasts and not being able to play any videos or games from Facebook.
My computer is an AMD A6 with 8 mg ram running Windows 8.
Thank you for your time and answers.

Have you checked your resource usage using Window's Task Manager?
The more you have running the slower the computer will run.
What is your video card or cards and how much ram does each have?
