To what extent can XIR2 users use XIR3 platform, if at all?

We are deploying XIR3 and we have suddenly been asked if XIR2 users can use the system. Is so what can / cannot be used? For example:
1. Can an XIR2 user login to an XIR2 repository?
2. Can they use an XIR2 Desktop Intelligence against an XIR3 CMS, Universe?
3. Can they schedule an XIR2 report via an XIR3 repository?
My suspicions are that they cannot, but if someone would be so kind as to clarify or advise which document to refer to that would be great

It's a large multinational company. One team is Global projects (just migrated from v 5.1.6 to XIR3). The other team is on a seperate group (R2, and will not upgrade for a while).
One team has an XIR3 server, R3 universes and R3 reports. The other team only has an R2 deployment (reports, universes, connections - all). The R2 deployment has a different set of users, reports and universes but they need some of the R3 reports, connections and universes even though their users do not exist in the R3 environment.
I found the following on page 57 of xi3_bip_upgrade_en.pdf:
Although it is recommended that you upgrade all your Desktop Intelligence
clients to Desktop Intelligence XI 3.0, you can continue using Desktop
Intelligence XI Release 2 clients against a BusinessObjects Enterprise XI
3.0 server during the upgrade phase.

to an XI 3.0Central Management Server (CMS), and to create, view, and

I've been reading a book named "Java Threads, Third Edition" from O'Reilly Media by Scott Oaks and Henry Wong. The book has a subchapter named "The Effect of Reordering Statements" where it states that the vm is free to change the order of executement, and that the order of operations can therefore not be used to ensure that a class/code is threadsafe. Ill just point a snip from the book to illustrate. The example code:

My question now is if this info is correct, and if so, to what extent can the vm rearange the order of executement? Say I have this code (simplified example):

Am I then right in concluding that the stopIT() method I described is then not guarantueed to deliver the wanted result? (that the select thread exits the loop). If the vm-orders the statements as you show and the thread timing is a bit unlucky you could end up with:
Thread A (the one calling stopIT()) executes internalSelector.wakeup();
Thread B (the thread in the loop) wakes up
Thread B checks the while condition which still evalutes true and ends back with blocking on .select()
Thread A changes the value of keepRunning to false
Thereby possibly leaving threadB blocked "forever" if no other events occur.
Is this intepretation of the mechanicm correct? meaning do I need to change the implementation of the stopIt() method to assure it will produce the wanted result?

I'm having the same audio compression (chipmunk sound) issue as one of the other users, when I use the 'QuickCam for Notebooks Pro'. I tried using another camera and it worked fine, but it would not clip on to the thick screen of my G25.
Can any of you let me know what kind of cameras your using successfully on the G25?

I'm having the same sound problem with my f20 with a quick cam pro 5000. I've found that uninstalling the camera mic resolves the sound issue! but you then have to plug in the supplied headset mic. Logitech suggested a clean installation of the camera software and re-loading the sound card drivers which I did to no avail.next stop Logitech support hotline.

Can remote users use Time Machine to back up to the server?

We have 4 Mac users in our office, and a 5th remote Mac user. All 5 users are using a Mac Mini Server at our office for file sharing services. The 4 local users are all set up for Time Machine backups to the server. I wasn't able to set up the remote user - although she can 'see' the Backups share point when she connects to the server by afp, the Backups device can't be selected from her Time Machine settings in System Preferences.
Am I going about this wrong? Or are remote backups not supported? I'm aware they may be very slow over a regular internet connection...
PS - All 5 users are on 10.6

Sorry for the late reply. There's a slight difference for the minimum system requirements for what Leopard CAN run on vs. what it SHOULD be run on. Although a 667MHz G4-based machine with 512MB RAM may suffice technically, I would propose that a reasonable minimum from a performance perspective is a 1GHz PPC processor (or any Intel processor), with 1GB minimum RAM. Thus, the 1GHz eMac with 1GB RAM is probably the cheapest way you could reasonably run Leopard.
One of the issues with Finder and iTunes is that Apple is increasingly making use of "Cover Flow" and other sophisticated graphics. These will run slowly (if at all) on systems with PPC processors under 1GHz. You don't want to choke your processor, especially if there's a single PPC processor in your system.

You can only update an app from the same store country in which it was purchased. If you purchased it in Italy, then you must update it in the Italian iTunes Store by changing your country back to Italy:

To what extent can I replicate a Nokia 700?

I have a 700 and need to have an identically configured spare phone.
What is the best way to achieve that?
Presumably all Nokia shop apps will need to be re-downloaded.

As usual, nobody replied here despite Nokia reps reading these messages and removing ones they don't like...
Anyway, in case anybody is interested, this is what I did:
1) Bought the 2nd phone
2) Made sure it had the latest firmware (same as the 1st one)
3) Put in a microSD card into the 2nd one, same as the 1st one has (drive F
4) Using Nokia Suite, I did a backup of the whole of the 1st one and restored it into the 2nd one
5) I re-installed the few apps I bought. This involves moving the old SIM temporarily into the 2nd phone, because Nokia changed their shop to not allow downloads anymore; instead they send you a SMS with the download URL. There is supposed to be a way to re-download paid-for apps if you move the SIM as described, without paying for them again, which would be only fair, but it didn't seem to work and I bought a couple of little ones again (life is too short). For a few apps I had the .sis file which makes it trivial, of course, but that is rare nowadays.
Most of the config did restore correctly, including apparently config of **Nokia** apps (which was expected), but also suprisingly the config of most of the non-Nokia apps which were installed *after* the restore also came up as before. I guess the restore must have restored some workspace areas in which these apps were storing their config, so that when they were installed they picked up their old config.
Curiously the "home screen" configs (wallpaper settings) did not get restored, but they are just trivia.
I did not retest whether Nokia suite has recently fixed the well known bug in that custom labels in the contacts book (e.g. renaming somebody's "Mobile" number label to "Vodafone") did not get backed up / restored.
Nokia offer support over email, which appears good, but in reality it is done by people with little knowledge of phones and very poor English, who seem to be dropping in standard phrases from a script and do not understand questions asked even if they are presented several times, carefully re-worded. They also have no apparent access to better support. For example they claim that deleting an email also deletes it from the (POP) server; I have just proved yet again this is false (unless it is highly context sensitive). I am after deleting emails from the server - like every previous Nokia phone I had was capable of.

Can multi users use a single itunes library to update ipods?

I have multiple users set up on my Powerbook G4 for myself and my 2 kids.
They just got 4G Nanos for christmas, so I want to share my itunes music with them.
Can someone please explain how I do this, so that they can log in to their own accounts on the G4, start itunes and update their own ipod nanos individually with music shared from my itunes folder?

that's actually what i do, i keep my library on an external firewire drive, and then back it up to another external firewire occasionally, as at almost 90gb, i certainly dont want to lose the music i've ripped from my huge cd collection.
i've also found that while i too was concerned about taking my entire library with me on vacation, i found that i never got too far into my 40gb ipod library, let alone wanting more... i actually use my ipod more, even at work, since i'd rather update ratings and things on there vs the main hd, and i sync manually. maybe just use the ipod for the bulk of what's in the lib, and if there's anything missing that you think you'll want, make sure that is available on the hd when you go.
if you do go the route of keeping it on the external, i'd go ahead and move it over to there, and then tell itunes that it's in a new place (via prefs), and it might have to re-map a few songs (+/- 10%), but you won't have to do the alias trick, which might not work right if itunes is launched and the ext drive is not mounted. i do the alias trick at home on two computers, and the ext drive at work for the big libraries.
and while i personally wouldn't recommend it, there are a few apps out there that can "virtually" re-partition the hd, some without having to set it up that way first. i think one is called "drive genius"... i was looking at them about a year ago for my emac, but since it only has a 40gb, i just copied everything over to my ext firewire drive, and then reformatted, tested, and partitioned, and then copied everythign back. it also gave me an opp to do a fresh install of the system, which i like to do every year or so when the time is there for me to do it. it keeps me from cluttering up my computer too much over time, and gets the extra caches and localizations out that onyx and the like don't find.

How can multiple users use the same Creative Cloud Individual on one single-machine?

We have one shared graphics workstation, which is infrequently in use by different people - therefore we bought a single-workstation license (which we were referred to "Creative Cloud Individual"). In the FAQs it says it installs locally, but whenever a user different from the installing adminstrator logs in, he is forced to use the trial.
Is there a way to make the local installation usable on that single machine for multiple users?

Serenatasystems do the other users not have administrator access? What happens if they sign in using the Adobe ID tied to your Creative Cloud subscription? Do your Adobe Creative applications then exit trial mode?

I have an older G4 which I have put a 500mb drive into. I want to put it on the newtork and use it as a time machine. Do I need to partion the drive, such that each user has there own partition? Or just one large partition and allow users access?

Depends on how much you trust your girlfriend. iOS does not support multiple user accouts at this time. You are not limited to just a single email account. Your girlfriend can add her account to the mix but you must realize she can also get and read email from YOUR account too because she is using your iPad. You cannot set up a different iPad user account that only she can see. Everything is open and available for her to use.
