Tomcat 4.1.27, 4,1.29, 4.1.30, 5.0.12 and 5.0.19

i programmed in jsp/tomcat for quite long time.
i write a simple testing servlet - 1 html, 1 servlet (simplest code i could come up with) , just dump it under webapps folder for testing purpose. (server.xml is not changed)
folder
- web-inf
- classes
- lib
- web.xml
- jsp
- src
-index.html
with window xp pro & tomcat 5.0.19 combination, jsp is working, servlet is not.
i (20* double) checked the code, web.xml, java_home, j2ee_home, catalina_home, everything i could think, all is correct.
however, same stuff working perfectly under window xp home & tomcat 5.0.12 combination
not working under window xp pro & tomcat 5.0.19
not working under window xp pro & tomcat 5.0.12
not working under window xp pro & tomcat 4.1.30
not working under window 2000 & tomcat 4.1.29
not working under window 2000 & tomcat 4.1.27
any suggestion will be helpful
thx

not working under window xp pro & tomcat 5.0.19What is your "not working" mean? Nothing response or Error message do you get?
I have been using with Win XP pro and Tomcat 5.0.18 combination. It is alright. No problem with servlet.
It works.
First, you have to add new context for your servlet or JSP host in Tomcat administration. And then, you have to add <servlet></servlet> and <servlet-mapping></servlet-mapping> in web.xml file.
Have you done this before? I think you should check again. Your servlet class file must be under respective context "classes" folder.
Maybe your problem.

  • Problem with JNI and Tomcat (and threads???)

    Howdy,
    Here is the issue - I would like some help on HOW to debug and fix this problem:
    2 test use cases -
    1)
    a)User goes to Login.jsp, enters user and password
    b) User submits to LoginServlet
    c) login calls JNI code that connects to a powerbuilder(Yes I know this is ugly) PBNI code module (this is a .dll) that authenticates the user with the database
    d) the servlet then redirects to another .jsp page
    e) user then submits to LogoutServlet - also a JNI call to a powerbuilder PBNI code module
    f) REPEAT STEPS a-e over a few times (inconsistent) and then the call to the JNI code hangs
    2)
    a) users does NOT goto Login.jsp, but rather calls LoginServlet and passes the userid and password as GET parms
    b) user does NOT get redirected to a page (redirect code commented out)
    c) user calls LogoutServlet
    d) repeat steps a-c at will and no failure, no hanging
    The only difference is that in case 1 (with JSP), there is a redirect and it afffected the JNI call by haniging inside JNI code.
    In case 2 (without JSP) there is still a JNI call, but it does not hang. In addition, when it hangs and I stop Tomcat, the logs show cleanup entries that say:
    Oct 19, 2004 9:17:09 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload
    INFO: Waiting for 1 instance(s) to be deallocated
    Oct 19, 2004 9:17:10 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload
    INFO: Waiting for 1 instance(s) to be deallocated
    Oct 19, 2004 9:17:11 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapper unload
    INFO: Waiting for 1 instance(s) to be deallocated
    Is this a threading issue in Tomcat???
    On would assume that the JNI code is not cleaning up after itself, but I don't believe this is the case,
    and even if it was, why would I get the tomcat log cleanup entries above???
    What do those cleanup entries imply about the state of Tomcat????

    hi ,
    I met the same problem this morning, and searched the www.google.com in order to solve it, as a result, your article was shown on my screen. :)
    Till now I have read some technical information and solved my problems. Maybe the solution be useful to you:

  • How to protect an application running on Apache Tomcat app server with OAM 11gR2

    Gurus,
    We have an Apache Tomcat based application named "ABCD" here at client site that we want OAM 11gR2 PS1 to integrate with for SSO purposes. I have successfully configured OHS to reverse proxy requests to Apache Tomcat server whenever somebody tries to access the application URL but still, I am getting the application login page once I have successfully authenticated on OAM SSO login page. The Tomcat based application is authenticating users against a "UserDatabase realm".
    I know in terms of weblogic application, there is an OAM identity asserter provider which then populates the User Principal for the java environment with the authenticated OAM user. But there is no such OAM identity provider for Tomcat.
    So my question is, is there an provider (or Tomcat equivalent) which will entrust authentication to a header, that could be used to populate the Java User Principal from the OAM_REMOTE_USER header? Is the weblogic equivalent of authentication providers present in tomcat as well? Are those called valves?
    Please advise to the earliest.
    Thanks !!

    Aakash,
    I did follow the 4 steps that you mentioned to me. Out of the 4 that you had mentioned, I already had the webgate in place on OHS server and I was already passing the remote_user http header in oam policy as action.
    As part of Step #2: Install mod_jk plugin on OHS server that you mentioned
    1.) I downloaded the tomcat connector - tomcat-connectors-1.2.37-src
    2.) I had to run ./configure,make, make install on my OHS server which runs on RHEL 6. It created the mod_jk.so file. I pasted it in the needed folder.
    3.) I then created the httpd.conf file and workers.properties file as said in the connector docs.
    4.) Restarted OHS.
    As part of Step #3: Configure tomcat's ajp connector that you mentioned and I went through all the links pasted below but didn't find actually what needs to be in place to configure tomcat's ajp connector. I do see in the server.xml of tomcat app server that the ajp 1.3 protocol is supported:
    http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-4.0-doc/config/ajp.html
    http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-3.3-doc/mod_jk-howto.html#s8

    <!-- Define an AJP 1.3 Connector on port 8009 -->
        <Connector port="8009" protocol="AJP/1.3" redirectPort="8443" />
    Do we need to disable the HTTP protocol in Tomcat and keep only AJP connector enabled? If yes, how to do that?
    I am trying to connect to the application from OHS server like so I am using the http protocal right? How should I use the ajp protocol to connect to tomcat application?

    You say you have set up the environment variables, but it is not working. You may have them set to the wrong thing. One common mistake is to point JAVA_HOME at the java/bin directory rather than just the /java directory.
    Another set of eyes finds small mistakes in the variables that you might not spot yourself.
    So please, post:
    The values of these environment variables
    The path to where the products are installed on your system (ie is it c:\java or c:\j2se1_4_2 or c:\program files?
    I would take another close look at that JAVA_HOME variable to make sure of it :-)
    Good luck,

  • Problem launching a jsp page with eclipse and tomcat

    Hi,
    I have just started using eclipse and tomcat for creating dynamic web pages. I tried to launch a jsp page after starting the tomcat server with the URL: http://locahost:8080/HelloWorld/, an error page was displayed as below:
    HTTP Status 404 -/
    type Status report
    message /_
    description The requested resource (-) is not available
    Apache Tomcat/5.5.17
    I didn't get any error at the console and when i just typed http://localhost, a pop up menu saying that the connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost.
    I'm not sure what is the problem here. Could it be the permssion to the localhost is not granted by the system as the eclipse IDE is running using linux?
    Hope someone can help.
    Thanks.

  • JNI and Tomcat running on Linux

    Hi all!
    I have a small problem with calling a native library from my Tomcat running on a linux.
    The code is simple enough
    System.loadLibrary(myLibrary);I know that when libmyLibrary.so isn't in the java.library.path I get an error at this line. When it is in the path it goes past this line with out problems but on the next line
    myFunction(); that is a function within myLibrary i get something like
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: myFunction()The thing is. This exact code when either executed in a standalone java application or from a Tomcat running on windows works with out problem. Tomcat on linux doesn't.
    myLibrary uses other libraries on a different path and my guess is that tomcat for some reason won't allow access to those. The security manager however doesn't give me any errors, nor does tomcat itself other than the UnsatisfiedLinkError.
    Anyone running Tomcat on linux and using native libraries or perhaps just knows alot about this?
    Please help. Thanks!

    Are you sure you are not running into a class loader issue? Does this occur the very first LoadLibrary call or after the first successfull call?
    It could be that your JNI or bridge has already been loaded by another class loader in the tomcat class loader hierarchy and this would result in the UnsatisfiedLinkError.

  • Connection Problem with Oracle and Tomcat.

    I was able to enter Oracle using scott/tiger when I did not connect Tomcat.But when I connect tomcat I am unable to log onto Oracle.
    When I logged to the database then I tried to start the Tomcat but it gave an exception.So I went to the task manager and ended the running processes like isqlplus.exe, oracle.exe, tomcat.exe, apache.exe.When I ended all the processes except oracle.exe, tomcat gave an exception. But when I ended oracle.exe Tomcat started working but Oracle stopped working. I don't know what the problem is.
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks,
    Sravanthi.

    > Can anyone help me out?
    Yeah sure. Is there a SQL or PL/SQL related question in there.. somewhere.. hiding away?
    After all, you do realise that the name of this forum is SQL and PL/SQL and that it deals with the SQL and PL/SQL languages in the Oracle server.. right?

  • Netware 6.0 SP5 Apache/Tomcat

    I am setting up a New install Netware 6.0 server and have netware all patched up with sp5, & BM 3.7 patched up. This server will not be located in my office so I wanted to try to get the web app side up to date. I want to use Imanager to remotely check the health etc... I know this is an older version of Netware but this is a temporary replacement server and we should only be using this server for a year or 18 months max and we will no longer have a need for it. I say all that to ask how to upgrade Apache & Tomcat so I manager will work. I have EDIR 8.7.3 and the Novell JVM is at 1.4.2.04. The additional requirements for Imanager 2.01 are Tomcat 3.3, Tomcat 4 and Apache 1.3. Currently the server has Tomcat 3.3 installed and Apache 1.03. I can find a TID (10071533) on upgrading Tomcat 3.3 to Tomcat 4 on Netware 6.0 but cannot find the install file "Tomcat4.04b2", or any other variant. So do I need to get a newer version or what? I also need to update the Apache and cannot seem to find the correct files for that either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Certainly with Apache it's a case of extracting the NLMs from the
    archive and then copying over the old ones.
    Personally I
    * download the update
    * extract to a directory on my local machine
    * rename the configuration files in the local copy to prevent actual
    configuration files on server being overwritten
    * make a copy of sys:\apache or sys:\apache2 (depending on which I'm
    updating)
    * copy the local copy over to the server, overwriting existing files
    (remember we've just renamed the config files)
    * restart Apache
    Hope this helps.

    Do you work with Novell technologies within an academic environment?
    Your campus may benefit from joining the Novell Technology Transfer

  • ERROR attempting to call HttpSession.invalidate ()  in TOMCAT 5.5.9

    Can someone help me with this TOMCAT issue:-
    I am attempting to implement a logout method that will invalidate the current session and redirect to the login page (based on SRLogout demo eg).
    The code works fine in JDeveloper Embedded OC4J Server, but when i deploy the application to Tomcat 5.5.9 it throws an exception that the Session has already been invalidated.
    I also notice that When i print the session object in JDev it is: 'HTTP Session ac104af6231ccf2bd0e9a39148c5adc1ea2714432a9e' but in Tomcat it is : 'org.apache.catalina.session.StandardSessionFacade@bfb545'

    The following stack trace is the key:
    java.lang.IllegalStateException: getAttribute: Session already invalidated
         org.apache.catalina.session.StandardSession.getAttribute(StandardSession.java:1077)

         org.apache.catalina.session.StandardSession.invalidate(StandardSession.java:1158)
         org.apache.catalina.session.StandardSessionFacade.invalidate(StandardSessionFacade.java:150)
    oracle.adf.share.http.HttpSessionScopeAdapter.valueUnbound(HttpSessionScopeAdapter.java:324)*
    org.apache.catalina.session.StandardSession.removeAttributeInternal(StandardSession.java:1686)*
    org.apache.catalina.session.StandardSession.expire(StandardSession.java:801)*
    catalina first invalidate the session by setting expire property to true
    then it removes all attributes by calling removeAttributeInternal()
    which calls whatever attributes valueUnbound method...
    in this case, oracle's HttpSessionScopeAdapter try to get an attribute on the session
    org.apache.catalina.session.StandardSessionFacade.getAttribute(StandardSessionFacade.java:110)
    oracle.adf.share.http.HttpUtil.getAttribute(HttpUtil.java:98)
    catalina does not permit accessing the attributes when it is invalidated... so you get the mighty java.lang.IllegalStateException: getAttribute: Session already invalidated exception...
    the solution to this problem is to remove oracle attributes BEFORE invalidating the session. This should work in any appserver implementation.
    For example, in our case, the oracle attribute was a scope attribute (HttpStateManagerScopeAdapter in our stack trace)... We found those attributes using the
    HttpSession.getAttributeNames() method, and removed them manually before invalidating the session.
    session.removeAttribute("ORA_adf_sessionScope");
    session.removeAttribute("__adf_session_scope__");
    // remove private attributes
    // and invalidate the session
    session.invalidate();
    I think that it makes sense that catalina invalidates the session before any call to the listeners, because any problem in those attributes could mean an improperly invalidated session...
    Cheers.

              Sessions.
    saveOnRestart: If true, all active sessions will be saved
    to the Store when Catalina is shutdown, regardless of
    other settings. All Sessions found in the Store will be
    loaded on startup. Sessions past their expiration are
    ignored in both cases.
    maxActiveSessions: If 0 or greater, having too many active
    sessions will result in some being swapped out. minIdleSwap
    limits this. -1 means unlimited sessions are allowed.
    0 means sessions will almost always be swapped out after
    use - this will be noticeably slow for your users.
    minIdleSwap: Sessions must be idle for at least this long
    (in seconds) before they will be swapped out due to
    maxActiveSessions. This avoids thrashing when the site is
    highly active. -1 or 0 means there is no minimum - sessions
    can be swapped out at any time.
    maxIdleSwap: Sessions will be swapped out if idle for this
    long (in seconds). If minIdleSwap is higher, then it will
    override this. This isn't exact: it is checked periodically.
    -1 means sessions won't be swapped out for this reason,
    although they may be swapped out for maxActiveSessions.
    If set to >= 0, guarantees that all sessions found in the
    Store will be loaded on startup.
    maxIdleBackup: Sessions will be backed up (saved to the Store,
    but left in active memory) if idle for this long (in seconds),
    and all sessions found in the Store will be loaded on startup.
    If set to -1 sessions will not be backed up, 0 means they
    should be backed up shortly after being used.
    To clear sessions from the Store, set maxActiveSessions, maxIdleSwap,
    and minIdleBackup all to -1, saveOnRestart to false, then restart
    Catalina.

    Edited by: sandy on Nov 9, 2010 8:59 AM

    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00904: "SANDY": invalid identifier
    Looks like the sql you are submitting is invalid.
    Print out a copy of the sql you are trying to run and you will probably get:
    SELECT * FROM OURUSERS WHERE usr = Sandy and password = secretThat isn't valid sql. It is missing quotes around the values you are checking.
    This is the corrected sql query:
    SELECT * FROM OURUSERS WHERE usr = 'Sandy' and password = 'secret'so one solution would be:
    String sql = "SELECT * FROM OURUSERS WHERE usr = '" + user + "' and password = '" + pwd + "' ";However that is not optimal. It exposes your code to sql injection attack.
    The better way is to use a prepared statement:
    String sql = "SELECT * FROM OURUSERS WHERE usr = ? and password =?";
    st = con.prepareStatement(sql);
    st.setString(1, user);
    st.setString(2, password);
    rs = st.executeQuery();cheers,

  • BI Publisher and TomCat JDBC error

    Hey Folks,
    I have BI Pulbisher up and running in a cluster mode on a Solaris box with a shared folder such as (/u01/app/BI_Publisher/xmlp) as the file path in WEB-INF\xmlp-server-congfig.xml. All my reports and XMLP configuration folders are stored in that directory (ie. Admin, DemoFiles, Reports, Tools etc..). BI Publisher is up and running under the tomcat user id.
    My OBIEE directory is contained in /opt/oracle/app/OracleBI....
    Now when I deployed the xmlpserver.war file and configure my connections, everything was working properly.
    Now I see the following exception being thrown in the tomcat logs. This error msgs are inserted to the logs every second and it will fill up the log file in a matter of hours which makes the BI Publisher go down.
    I have to erase the logs and re-cycle the tomcat server and everything is fine again, but these msgs keep filling up the logs.

  • Tomcat 6 – Calling a  Java Servlet from a JSP Page

    Below is a very simple JSP Page that calls a Java Servlet. The question is given Tomcat security constraints, is it possible to call a servlet from a JSP and get the correct output without getting an error message? If so, how would you code the web.xml file?
    c:\apache-tomcat-6.0.18
    Under conf
    catalina
    localhost
    HelloWorldExample.xml is directly under localhost
    The application would have this directory structure:
    webapps
    HelloWorldExample
    hello.jsp is directly under HelloWorldExample
    Under HelloWorldExample
    src
    WEB-INF
    classes
    Under classes
    jservlets
    HelloWorld.java is in src folder
    HelloWorld.class is in jservlets folder
    HelloWorldExample.xml

  • Error on startup of Tomcat

    I am attempting to use the Tomcat servlet engine with Apache on Win 98. The versions I am using are Apache/1.3.20 and Tomcat 4.0.1. I have unzipped the tomcat binary to C:\jakarta-tomcat-4.0.1 and set CATALINA_HOME to C:\jakarta-tomcat-4.0.1.
    I am running the same versions of Apache and Tomcat at work on NT 4.0 and had no problems. But on my Win 98 machine when I try to start Tomcat with "startup" I am getting the following (at least I think it is the equivalent on startup with what I'm getting on shutdown--the startup console window is closing before I can capture the message):

    Very simple. On the start up Jakarta is looking for server.xml file. Apparently, it can not read it.
    Check all your env. variables. Make sure you have
    JAVA_HOME, TOMCAT_HOME set correctly. If TOMCAT_HOME is not set up correctly, it would not be able to locate server.xml file.

  • Problem in compiling servlet class - using Tomcat

    Hi,
    I have a servlet pgm that I'm trying to compile.I using Tomcat application server.I have my servlet class in D:\servlet_wrk\project1\src
    and my deployment descriptor in D:\servlet_wrk\project1\etc
    my CLASSPATH var is set to C:\Sun\AppServer\jdk\bin
    and
    my PATH var is set to C:\Sun\AppServer\bin.
    When I compile my servlet class Ch1Servlet.java in the command line from the directory
    D:\servlet_wrk\project1 using the command
    javac -classpath D:\applications\tomcat-5.5.12\common\lib\servlet-api.jar -d classes src/Ch1Servlet.java,
    it says error:cannot read: src/Ch1Servlet.java
    Can somebody help me to solve this problem and help me to compile my servlet class.
    Thanks.

    Thanks...as u said I tried putting dir & found that
    my file was saved as Ch1Servlet.java.txt instead for
    Ch1Servlet.java......So that was a problem.Now I'm
    able to compile.Oh, yeah. Notepad will do that to you. I think when you save in Notepad if you put quotes around the name "Whatever.java" then it won't add the .txt.
    But on compiling I'm getting the following error
    package java.servlet.* does not exist
    package java.servlet.http.* does not exist
    package java.io.* does not exist
    Do u the reason for this??? The servlet stuff is java[b]x.servlet. For the io stuff, I don't know, I'd have to see your code. Either you have a typo or a corrupt installation.
