Tomcat in win98 - please can anyone help??
I've been trying to install Tomcat in win98 for the last couple of
days....
It now seems to run OK when I do startup and shutdown, but it won't
display the homepage on localhost:8080. I get HTTP 500 error when
Tomcat is running (and a 'page cannot be displayed' if it's not). And yes the port number is right.
Can anyone think of anything I can try, please?IT WORKS!!!! Well, sort of.
I tried the final combination of Tomcat 3.2.3 and my original JDK1.3. Before, I had been trying to set environment variables in sysedit, but when I just put JAVA_HOME and TOMCAT_HOME at the beginning of Tomcat.bat it did the trick.
Sweet Tomcat index page! But then only about half of the jsp and servlet examples work properly - some only give http 500 error and some of them kind of half work. This is the kind of thing that happens (running 'Date')

Access denied Error when trying to run Tomcat that came with JWSDP
Hi fellows,
I went through the forums and found same error posted by someone but no soultion to that.
So hope this time i get lucky.
I am running this on win 98(it really sucks)
After I try to run the startup.bat i get the error:
Using CATALINA_BASE: C:\JWSDP-1_0-EA2
Using CATALINA_HOME: C:\JWSDP-1_0-EA2
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: C:\JWSDP-1_0-EA2\temp
Using JAVA_HOME: C:\JDK13~1.1_0
Access is denied.
I don't know where to put the build.properties. Any helpful comment will be greately appreciated.
Regards,Folks
Obviously the EA(Early Access) is just that! I've managed to get around the problem, and run a sample (ConverterBean) using JWSDP with Tomcat on Win98. Here's the workaround:
1> In the startup.bat, replace "start" with "run". Type "startup" from cmd line. This will start Tomcat in the same window.
2> Create the build.properties file in the same location as build.xml. For the Getting Started example, this will be in <jwsdp-home>\docs\tutorial\example\gs.
3> Once you build the sample files, copy the classes directory and index.jsp to <jwsdp-home>\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF
4> Update setclasspath.bat in <jwsdp-home>\bin directory to include <jwsdp-home>\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\classes.
5> In the browser, type http://localhost:8080/index.jsp
BINGO!!!!
Cheers!
Pravin
I hava the same problem

About Tomcat 4.0.1 setting.....
Hi all,
Since I setup a tomcat on win98 workstation, I can open the a JSP and store the data into database successfully, within my workstation (http://localhost:8080/test). However, the other workstation in LAN can't access my application via my IP (http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/test).
And the following error occur........
HTTP Error 405
405 Method Not Allowed
The method specified in the Request Line is not allowed for the resource identified by the request. Please ensure that you have the proper MIME type set up for the resource you are requesting.
Please contact the server's administrator if this problem persists.
Do my tomcat seting or any computer setting wrong?
Kindly please help :)Hi All, (Tung)
1.
The error is because the request method is NOT implemented.For example, I want a get, but the servlet did not have a doGet.
http://localhost:8080/servlet/get
import java.io.*;
import javax.servlet.*;
import javax.servlet.http.*;
public class get extends HttpServlet
public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
throws ServletException , IOException
HTTP Status 405 - HTTP method GET is not supported by this URL
The specified HTTP method is not allowed for the requested resource
(HTTP method GET is not supported by this URL).
2. Check your code, if the method that you want (doGet, doPost, doDelete, doOptions, doPut, doHead, doTrace, ect..)
are implemented.

How can I use oracle 9i to connect with my jsp
Hi,
I have a question with my a little final year project. I have been install oracle 9i on Win2000. I also install apache and tomcat on Win98 and it works properly. I am trying to use jsp to develop my homepage and it can be connect with my oracle to retreive information. I'm wondering what steps/configure I need to do?
Could anyone tell me about this? Thanks
AmyAmy,
You can look at [url http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/tech/java/jsps/ojsp/dbaccessjdbc.html]this sample. It provides step by step explanation on how to connect to database using JDBC from a JSP. We use Java Beans in the sample. Download the code and have a look at it.
Hope this helps.

Anupama

Hello Friends,
I am trying to start up Tomcat server, but keep getting error that TOMCAT_HOME is not set. I am using Windows 98. I tried to set the Tomcat_home using
SET TOMCAT_HOME = C:\Tomcat in autoexec.bat
but it gives error - out of enviromental space
How can I set this env. variable? or increase env. space on win98?
Thank you.Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Buy I still get the following error:
startup.bat -->
Out of enviroment space
Out of enviroment space
Unable to determine value of TOMCAT_HOME
In my autoexec.bat I have created teh following variables:
SET CLASSPATH = ".;D:\work\Java\jdk1.3.1\lib;D:\work\Java\jdk1.3.1\lib\dt.jar;dt.jar;D:\work\Java\jdk1.3.1\lib\jvm.jar;jvm.jar;D:\work\Java\jdk1.3.1\lib\jawt.jar;jawt.jar;D:\work\Java\jdk1.3.1\lib\tools.jar;tools.jar"

Problem with instaling servlet -Tomcat 4.01 -Win98
Problem is in web.xml fajl
I use
<servlet>
<servlet-name>name</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>package.name</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>name</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
Fajl are in webapps/xxx folder Then I start aplication it's work but there is no pictures. (I put them in webapps/xxx/pictures folder, and call them in servlet with img src=\"/xxx/pictures/picture1.gif"\)
ThanksHi,
if I understand, you generate img tag from your servlet.
But the img tag is evaluate by client (navigator), so the path must be relative to the servlet root :
img src="pictures/xxx.jpg"
if don't work, try ./pictures/xxx.jpg, but I think it work for Websphere, the first path should work under tomCat.

Tomcat 3.2.1 and Win98 not getting along...
I have gone through almost every post on this problem and tried every suggestion, I also followed the directions on the Core Servlets and jsp's book web-site which seemed to be right and I still get this error which occurs when a new window pops up after running startup.batch

pretty strange huh? Can someone help me please??Well, nobody else seemed able to help me, but after going through hundreds of forum posts with similar problems I found the issue. I had put servlet.jar and jsp.jar in my jdk1.3.1\jre\lib\ext because someone else had offered that as a solution to servlets not compiling properly. Appartently this messes with the localstring bundles. So, if you are having this problem with an application, here is your solution. Don't put stuff in your ext directory. Peace

What I'm doing wrong?
thank you for help, SnirI've got the same problem but on a Win98 platform also in Solaris OS
By copying the file JAVA_HOME/lib/tools.jar to the following path :
JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext/
another alternative is to set your classpath so that it point to the .jar files in your environnement variaoble
ex under Win98:
include this line in your autoexec.bat file
SET CLASSPATH=.;c:\jdk1.3\lib\tools.jar;c:\jdk1.3\lib\dt.jar
under Linux:
edit your .source that include environnment variables and add :"anOldPath:/jdk1.3/lib/tools.jar"
run the source in your terminal window then you can run ./startup under solaris or startup.sh
JAVA_HOME : c:\jdk1.3 or c:\jdk1.2.2 under win98
/home/user/auser/jdk1.2.2/ on linux
I hope that you encounter this problem.

Apache 2.0 and Tomcat 4.1 (help)
I have spent the last few days trying to serve JSP's using Apache 2.0 in conjunction with Tomcat 4.1 with zero results. I am rather frazzled and am about to abandon the thought of using anything Java for a long time.
I have found several resources that have spun me around in circles and provided little to no help at all. I am using a Win98 box by the way...
My installations are as follows:
Apache 2.0 - C:\Java\Apache
Tomcat 4.1 - C:\Java\Apache\Tomcat_4.1
mod_jk.conf - C:\Java\Apache\Tomcat_4.1\conf\auto\
workers.properties - C:\Java\Apache\Tomcat_4.1\conf\jk\
httpd.conf - C:\Java\Apache\Apache2\conf\
mod_jk.dll - C:\Java\Apache\Apache2\bin

HELP! XP ENVIRONMENT VARs and Tomcat installation
Hello people. I found out that at work we'll be switching over to Windows XP soon. But the problem is that our system administrator has disabled the ability to create/edit SYSTEM environment variables. I can't just ask him to enabled it because our IS department doesn't support JAVA :(. Previously, I had Tomcat on a Win98SE box w/o the sys admin knowledge (but don't get me wrong, I was doing work-related stuff with the tomcat server), so it wasn't an issue before. Is there a workaround to creating the JAVA_HOME, CATALINA_HOME, and PATH environment variables? What about the "User Variables"? Can I create "user variables" instead? Or can I create and run a DOS batch file that sets the necessary system environment variables for the tomcat installation? This is what I've been doing (DOS batch method) currently with the Win98 box. Sorry I have very little experience with XP, but from what I've heard, it can be very restricting depending upon on how it was setup by the system admins. Out of the box w/o sys admins, I've heard it's an ok OS.
Anyways...any help is greatly appreciated.
...damn those system administrators :( :pAlso another question. To install the SDK1.4, do I just install it like I normally do as in a Win98 box? I thought there was a XP plug-in that needed to be downloaded and installed too some time ago? Did the plug-in later became built into the installation bundle? I read somewhere there was a legal judgement made to force Microshaft to support Java?
Sorry I've been out of the XP loop... -
Others cant view my pages (using: TOMCAT 4.1.24 server)
I create pages.. JSP and regular HTML pages but when i give someone over the internet my IP address to view it the get error. However when i use my ip address instead of http://localhost:8080 i can view the pages. What is the problem???
I'm using win98.. on a dialup connection. I get myip
addresss from winipcfg. my ip address is currently
128.235.11.193 and the address of the page is
http://128.235.11.193:8080/myfirst.jsp
or http://...8080/index.jsp (default file that
comes
w/ Tomcat)
thanx again. don't put your ip out there, not a good idea.
not sure, but dialup isps don't usually permit in coming http requests. I can't tell right now, I'm behind a firewall myself. -
Tomcat in JWSDP - localhost:8080 doesnt work!
Hi there,
I am using tomcat 4.0 that comes with the Java Web Services Development Pack and I'm having a bit of a nightmare time with this.
Basically when I goto http://localhost:8080/index.html, I get an error. When I use http://127.0.0.1:8080/ it goes to the index page, which is all well and good.
After some research I located the "hosts.sam" file and "hosts" files and have made sure they contain the correct info and are in the right pace (i.e. C:\windows for win98). But still tomcat refuses to co-operate. Does anyone have any ideas about how to deal with this, esp given that its in the JWSDP.
Many thanks
JSHi, raj cmu. I have ie 5.0 but I checked the 6.0 version on the pc of a collegue and I found the identical option "use automatic configuration script". I recap what you have to do to find it: when you are on the internet go to Tools - Internet Options - connections - LAN settings. There you should find that option. Hope I could help you. Let me know.
