Tomcat won't "find" my servlet
After an afternoon of studying various documentation and downloading stuff, I managed to get the Java SDK and Tomcat running. I've hit a problem though (aside from Tomcat not starting up as described in the documentation - I could not find startup.sh at all, but I found an executable in /usr/bin that seemed to do the job quite nicely). I put a compiled servlet (a hello world thing copied from an O'Reilly book) in the right place, started Tomcat and accessed http://localhost:8080/servlet/HelloWorld . I got this error:
HTTP Status 404 - /servlet/HelloWorld
type Status report
message /servlet/HelloWorld
description The requested resource (/servlet/HelloWorld) is not available.
Apache Tomcat/4.1
I would be grateful if anyone would tell me what I am doing wrong.
Thanks :)
I have had similar problems and what I found was pretty annoying feature of Tomcat, that is I was using log4j in my servlet but I didnt put log4j.jat in {context}\WEB-INF\lib folder. Tomcat didnt indicate anything related to the missing 3-third party library, instead it was complaining about some EOFException.
Another thing to look for is making sure that the URL specified in browser matches your web.xml mapping that is:
http::/localhost/servlet/blah should have corresponding item in web.xml file like this:
<servlet>
<servlet-name>Servlet_Blah</servlet-name>
<display-name>Servlet Blah</display-name>
<description>Default configuration created for servlet.</description>
<servlet-class>BlahServlet</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>Servlet_Blah</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/servlet/blah</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

Tomcat can't find the servlets!
Hi!
I've just installed tomcat tomcat-5.5.16 with apache. Tomcat runs ok. It shows some samples (delivered with tomcat) under www.mywebsite.com/servlets-example and also www.mywebsite.com/jsp-examples. JSP files work perfectly, but when I try the servlets it can't find them:
www.mywebsite.com/servlets-examples/servlet/RequestHeaderExample Object not found!my classpath lokks like this:
/opt/SUNWappserver/jdk/lib:/opt/apache-tomcat/common/lib/servlet-api.jar:/opt/apache-tomcat/bin:/opt/apache-tomcat/webapps/servlets-examples/WEB-INF/classes:/opt/apache-tomcat/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classesand web.xml looks like this:
<servlet>
<servlet-name>invoker</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>
org.apache.catalina.servlets.InvokerServlet
</servlet-class>
<init-param>
<param-name>debug</param-name>
<param-value>0</param-value>
</init-param>
<load-on-startup>2</load-on-startup>
</servlet>and

</servlet-mapping>
<!-- The mapping for the invoker servlet -->
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>invoker</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/servlet/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>I changed the web.xml und conf and under WEB-INF.
I also changed server.xml to make tomcat work with apache on port 80.
What did I do wrong? What did I forget?
What is the difference between web.xml under conf and the ones under WEB-INF?
Thanks for any help.opt/SUNWappserver/jdk/lib:/opt/apache-tomcat/common/lib/servlet-api.jar:/opt/apache-tomcat/bin:/opt/apache-tomcat/webapps/servlets-examples/WEB-INF/classes:/opt/apache-tomcat/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes

Whenever i try to access one of my servlets via http://localhost:8080/photodb/servlet/dtic.photodb.webapp.PhotoList, I get a 404 error. I am using Tomcat 4.1.12, but i had no troubles in 4.1.10. Does Tomcat 4.1.12 require special configuration, or could something else be the cause of this problem?
Thanks in advance
RyanHi,
Tomcat 4.1.12 has a bug fix done on the InvokerServlet. The InvokerServlet is responsible for serving the servlet requests. In all the previous versions the InvokerServlet will be enabled by default. In the latest version, it is commented out. You will have to uncomment this for your servlets to be serverd. The changes needs to be done in the <tomcat_home>/conf/web.xml file.
Uncomment the following lines
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>invoker</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/servlet/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
More details regarding the bug and the fix can be found at the following url

Thanks

Tomcat won't work after XP SP2 install?? help, please
Help please!
Hi, I installed a fresh JDK (1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p), JRE (1.5.0_01), J2EE (1.4_2005Q1), Apache web server (2.0.53-win32-x86-no_ssl) and Tomcat (5.5.7) . Everything seemed to work. I installed XP Service Pack 2 and now Tomcat won't compile JSPs. (I don't know if the SP2 install was the cause).
The service Starts okay, but when I try to hit a jsp, Tomcat takes over my processor (at like 80%) and it starts writing to the stdout log (stdout was set to auto), repeatedly. After being up for like 20 min the log was well over 1 GB in size. It showed the below exceptions repeating ad infinitum.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Tomcat, repaired the Apache installation (that shouldn't matter, should it?), and I am going to try reinstalling JDK/JRE/J2EE, but does anyone have any ideas of how I can fix this?

Mar 13, 2005 9:15:15 PM oIs it possible this is resulting from classpaths not
being setup correctly? Could someone please tell me
what my CLASSPATH and PATH enviro variables should be
fod JDK, J2EE, JRE, etc...? Both in general and
specifically to be found by Tomcat. They are
installed in:
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_02
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_02
C:\Sun\AppServer
Thanks!Could be.
I think installing anything in directories whose path has spaces in it is a terrible idea. I'd reinstall the JDK to c:\SDKs or something like that.
There's no need for a system CLASSPATH - ever. You shouldn't have one. Use -classpath when you run javac.exe and java.exe to set the CLASSPATH. Tomcat has its own class loaders. You should deploy your Web apps in WAR files - they'll have the CLASSPATH set for you that way.
Your PATH should include the JAVA_HOME\bin.
set JAVA_HOME=C:\SDKs
set CATALINA_HOME=c:\Tools\Tomcat, or wherever you installed Tomcat.

Hello, i am from Argentina. i need URGENT help with tomcat, because i am developing my final thesis.
I have all my sources in
C:\jakarta-tomcat-5.0.16\webapps\tesis
C:\jakarta-tomcat-5.0.16\webapps\tesis\ (archivos jsp)
C:\jakarta-tomcat-5.0.16\webapps\tesis\lib
C:\jakarta-tomcat-5.0.16\webapps\tesis\web-inf\classes\edu\tesis\beans
C:\jakarta-tomcat-5.0.16\webapps\tesis\web-inf\classes\edu\tesis\queries
C:\jakarta-tomcat-5.0.16\webapps\tesis\web-inf\classes\fede\servlets
my problem is that when i execute the login.jsp through the browser in this way
http://localhost:8080/tesis/login.jsp
tomcat cant find the edu.tesis.beans package
In compiled jsp class i can see this
package org.apache.jsp;
import javax.servlet.*;
import javax.servlet.http.*;
import javax.servlet.jsp.*;
import edu.tesis.beans.*;
so, the problem is that tomcat set package org.apache.jsp; to my jsp, so it cant find edu.tesis.beans package.
This is my context path that is in $CATALINA_HOME/conf/server.xml file
<Context path="/tesis" docBase="C:\tomcat\webapps\tesis"
debug="9"
reloadable="true"
crossContext="true"/>
This is an extraction of my jsp file
<html>
<head>
<%@page import="edu.tesis.beans.*"%>
</head>
<body>
<jsp:useBean id="universidad" class="edu.tesis.beans.Universidad" scope="request" />
<form action="servlets/fede.servlets.ServletMaxwell" method="post"><BR><BR><BR><BR>
PLEASE, I NEED AN URGENT HELP!!!!
THANKS,
Cann't find javax.servlet.*
Hi there!
I cann't compile a servlet by means of ant...
It cann't find javax.servlet.*
I've searched for it in jakarta-tomcat-5.0.18 directory but didn't find anything...
Where is it situated?It should be in %CATALINA_HOME%/common/lib/servlet.jar or %CATALINA_HOME%/common/lib/j2ee.jar

Hello,
I am trying to create a connection pool to my Oracle db using the documentation provided for
Tomcat 5. In the servlet shown below, the servlet fails at this line:
Connection ocon = ds.getConnection();
The servlet stops with no error message. Also, I'm not sure what is supposed to go in

which may be where the real problem begins. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

After updating to Yosemite, I updated iPhoto. Alert said to convert my library to new iPhoto. Then alert said I needed to repair permissions. Then a freeze. Then iPhoto won't find and show my library. How do I fix this? I can see the library icon on my external drive, but it doesn't show as a library in iPhoto. When I double click on the icon, nothing happens. When I choose it from alternate menu, doesn't open. Where do I get help?
Peter
Do you have a back up? What version of iPhoto do you have? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

My ipad 2 won't find it's current location since router change.
My ipad 2 32gb wifi won't find it's current location. I've recently changed my old router from orange with a new one from orange and now my ipad can't find current location. I've looked at the settings for both the ipad and the router and should all work. Help?
Try rebooting the device by pressing and holding the on/off and home buttons simultaneously until the screen goes blank and you see the apple logo. It should take about 10-15 seconds to reboot.
If that doesn't fix the problem then go to Settings>General>Reset, then Reset Network Settings. -
Spotlight won't find files in user folder
i have spoken to apple tech support on this and they continue to try to find a solution but.....
i have files that spotlight doesn't find. they are in my user folder. in fact, it won't find the folder (s) one is on my desktop, one in documents. (these are just the ones i've tested). when i take the folder and just put it on the hard drive (root level), spotlight finds it. also, apparently, it can be found when i put it in the user folder of another user. i would like to avoid reinstalling the system. any thoughts??Start with http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/Leopard/leospot.html and my mod to Finder's Find at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6725932 for what you can change so you can find stuff.

SULLOQUYIf you were able to access the AX using the AirPort Utility but your PC is still not able to connect. I would try performing a "factory default" reset on the AX to see if that helps before going to the store. This type of reset will put the AX back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration which would broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. If your PC still cannot "see" or connect to this network, then a visit to the store would be in order.

Having trouble with time capsule, won't find backups
having trouble with time capsule, won't find backups
Usually a simple reboot will work.. Reboot the TC..
If that is not enough.. Restart the whole network from off.
Mountain Lion and to a lesser extent Lion.. have network issues and lose track of the TC. -
TM: Spotlight Won't Find Deleted File
As a test, I created a file just before TM began an hourly backup. After the backup was completed, I deleted the file.
When I open finder and search for the file using spotlight, of course it doesn't find it. When i call up the TM display and click the arrows, it still doesn't find it. In fact, spotlight won't find the file in TM at all. But because I know the exact time and date of the backup that has that file, I can navigate to the exact directory and find it. The file is there, and it only exists in that one backup.
So TM is working, but this isn't exactly the most convenient if you've deleted a file a month ago, have no idea when it was backed up, and can't remember where it was located.
I've tried it with the TM drive both in and out of the spotlight privacy pane--doesn't seem to make any difference. Known issue?Hmmm, it sounds like Spotlight's DB is corrupt or not functioning properly.
