Toolbar vanished

I know this is likely a very dumb question, but my toolbar has vanished and I've been searching all over to bring it back. However, I have not succeeded.
How do I bring it back?
Matt

I found it. It's that silly little button on the top right without a label.

Yup, your question and Diane's answer helped me also. Tho' I had had problems before getting into the iTunes store I always managed to find a way. Today they had me blocked cold with the "Update to 10" advert no matter what I did. Other questioners are being told, incorrectly as it turns out, that they have to update their OS to accomodate iTunes 10 and upgrade to iTunes 10. I did the download which did not take up much more room on my crowded old hard drive and now I'm back in business.

  • Safari toolbar vanished

iMac 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 running Mac OS X 10.8.3 and Safari 6.0.4
On Friday 5/16/13 while searching for a method to get rid of advertisements for Google Chrome and Google Plus and the Google black toolbar, Safari was hijacked by YP.com, the  AT&T Yellow Pages"service". When I succeeded finally in getting rid of this uninvited inerlopeer, my Safari toolbar disappeared, too. Now I have no Back Button and no Search Field. On the Menu Bar, "Show Toolbar" does not work, and "Customize Toolbar" is greyed-out. I have to invoke File/New Window to perform, a search or query.
I reinstalled with the Safari6.0.4Lion.pkg, ran the huge OSXUpdCombo10.8.3 file, and rerpaired permissions -- all to no avail.
    FireFox runs fine.
How can I restore Safari's functionality?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Classic makes 10.4 but not 10.3 apps toolbars vanish!

A friend with a G5 iMac running Tiger (10.4.11) emailed me with a problem he was experiencing after he upgraded from Panther (10.3.9) that I could not replicate on my G4 QS 2002 running 10.4.11 and launching the "Classic" environment, nor could I witness his configuration as we're about 125 miles apart:
+Everything seems to be ok if have I have not launched a system 9 application. Once I do that and system 9 has started, if I then look at or try to go back into a system 10.4 appication (like word, Quicken, excel, mail) the toolbar for those applications does not appear properly or at all. If I leave the system 9 application and shut down system 9 then everything is ok.+
He tried launching Classic without extensions, but that solution didn't "stick." Anybody seen this before and/or has any idea how to correct it?
    TIA.

    Hi barubin,
Though I don't use 10.4, there are some steps to take that I will recommend
for your friend that may help the situation:
    1. Rebuild the Classic Desktop. Located in Sys. Prefs/Classic/Advanced
    2. Mac OS X's disk utility/File/Repair OS 9 permissions (Run a couple times)
    3. Boot from Mac OS X install disk and run Repair Disk in Disk Utility.
    Hope these help!

    Thanks.
I'll pass this advice to him and let you and the forum know how it goes.

  • Yesterday my computer automatically upgraded to version 36.0. The bookmark toolbar vanished even though it is checked.

Bookmark tool bar shows if I'm in customization but nothing is there and no bookmarks will save. I've done both a refresh and uninstall/reinstall and nothing changes.

    DON'T DO THAT ! ! ! !
Deleting that folder will remove all profile informaton.
Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can
be caused by a corrupted '''places.sqlite''' database file.
Type '''about:support''' in the address bar and press enter.
Under the page logo on the left side you will see '''Application Basics.'''
Under this find '''Profile Folder.''' To it’s right press the button
'''Show Folder.''' This will open your file browser to the current
    Firefox profile. Now '''Close Firefox.'''
Locate the '''places.sqlite''' file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

  • 3D-Toolbar shows up for Flash-RMA

    Hi
The 3D-Toolbar has always caused me headaches in Acrobat 9 pro ext. Now that I started working with Flash it does a new trick: It sometimes shows up with Flash-Annotations. Apart from having no use whatsoever for a flash-annot, there is obviously no way to deactivate it. The toolbar vanishes usually when I actually start klicking around in the annotation. I would like to know a way to prevent the toolbar reliably from showing.
    Is this a known issue?

  • Defiant Missing Tools

I have Freehand MXa (11.02) running on Windows XP SP2. My PC
is a HP Pavilion a640n. Recently all my toolbars vanished. I tried
all the fixes suggested in the Adobe tech notes (deleting the
preference file, etc.). I also tried editing the preferences file
to default all the tools to on, in the hopes they would appear. I
then tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Then I tried that again,
after deleting the Freehand stuff from my computer and removing the
registry entries for Freehand. I also tried running the program in
safe mode to test for software conflict. No luck at all.
Is there something I'm missing? Some hidden file that I need
to get rid of or some registry tweak that would fix things? I infer
that there must be something on my PC that is remaining constant
through all the reinstalls and deletions, Anyone have any idea what
that might be? Or is this a sign that I need to go back to using my
    Mac exclusively? :)

That is odd. Either it is just an amazing coincidence or
there is some cross-platform flaw in Freehand MX. My inference is
that there is some file or setting somewhere that is not removed or
changed when Freehand is removed and then installed again. I've
searched the Registry in windows but can't find anything plausible.
I'm using Freehand MX to convert my files to Freehand 10 and then
    using that.
I really like Freehand MX (I've been a Freehand user since
the days of Aldus) and I'm determined to find a solution (I'm a
philosophy professor and a runner, so I get a bit obsessed with
    things :) ).

  • I miss this Jaguar finder feature in Tiger

In the Jaguar finder, you could drag directories to the toolbar; you can see an image of it here:
    http://www.actsofvolition.com/images/osxreview_threepaneview.gif
In the current Tiger finder, I can click on the "egg" in the top right corner to put the finder into the slim and light non-brushed metal mode; I prefer this mode because it takes up less screen space and looks cleaner to me than the default with the thick brushed metal borders. But when I go to that mode, the toolbar vanishes.
Is there anyway to do with the Tiger finder what I used to do with the Jaguar finder? That is, the slim non-brushedmetal non-bordered finder with the toolbar that I can drag folder short-cuts to?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    slegge

Sounds to me as if you want to collapse the Toolbar by clicking on the "egg" (the Show/Hide Toolbar button) without losing access to the Sidebar.
Although not a complete solution, try this...
Press and hold down on the Command (Apple) key and click on the egg button several times. You'll cycle through a range of diminishing Toolbar views (eventually you'll return to the default view). Settle on the view that suits you. That should now be your default Finder window view until you make changes.
To remove the text from the Toolbar (Back, View, Action, Search, e.g.), and thus gain a bit more screen space, Control-click, or right-click on each item and select "remove item." To undo this action choose Customize Toolbar from the Finder's View menu and drag a new set of buttons back up to the Toolbar.
    Good luck!

  • The bookmarks toolbar has vanished

I don't know what happened. I recently updated to FF15 and while bookmarking a new page it just vanished. It is ticked in the toolbar list, so I can't figure out what's wrong. Please help.

The problem for me was with the add-n Boox v3.0 (enhanced functionality for bookmark toolbar). Disabling it restored my bookmark toolbar.

  • Mail app: Toolbar icons vanished

Certain icons in the toolbar have vanished. The functionality for each icon still works though. It's a bit tricky to use Mail in this limited way (and it's clearly broken!), so any suggestions for getting them back?
The 'Customize toolbar' (View/Customize toolbar...) drop-down mirrors the faults in the toolbar - i.e. the icons are missing in that as well.

Quit all the applications and verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
If the problem persists, you’ll probably have to reinstall Mail. In the Finder, go to /Applications/, move Mail to the Trash, and reinstall it as described in the second part of the following article (under More custom reinstallation options):
Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4
Note that Mail may appear grayed out in the installer, but will be checked if you check Applications there, and will be installed if Mail has been removed from the /Applications/ folder.
If the version of the system software on the Install discs is earlier than what you’re running now (and only in that case), then you must also reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re running, to bring Mail back in sync with the rest of the system. Assuming the information that appears in your profile is accurate, that would be:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update (PowerPC)
Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update (Intel)
If you had installed any Security Updates released afterwards that included updates for Mail, you’ll have to reinstall that as well.
You may also want to read the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk and back up before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • How do I reinstate my toolbar with 'tools', 'bookmarks' etc. on it? It has vanished.

My toolbar with 'tools', 'bookmarks' etc. has disappeared. Where is it and how can I reinstate it?

In Firefox 4 and 5, you can choose to display/use the Firefox button or the Menu Bar; you question is in reference to displaying the Menu Bar.
'''To briefly display the Menu Bar '''when it is not displayed, press the ALT key or the F10 key and make your selections from the Menu Bar.
'''To toggle Menu Bar/Firefox button''', do one of the following:
    *NOTE:
**"Menu Bar" '''''checked''''' = Menu Bar on, Firefox button off
**"Menu Bar" '''''un-checked''''' = Menu Bar off, Firefox button on
*click the Firefox button > Options > Menu Bar (''will un-check "Menu Bar" if checked or will check "Menu Bar" if un-checked'')
*using Menu Bar, click View > Toolbars > Menu Bar (same as described above)
*keyboard shortcut: HOLD down the ALT key while pressing the keyboard letters VTM
**use the keyboard shortcut to quickly toggle between Menu Bar and Firefox button.
