Toplink and websphere pool

Hi,
The configuration : toplink 9.0.4.8, websphere 5.1.1.7, oracle 9.2.0.6, application j2ee, servlets, jsp.
Actually the application runs with toplink internal pool. it uses Toplink source java class not xml files.
I'm trying to use websphere pool.
In the application, I wrote :
Project lc_project = null;
try {
lc_project = (Project) Class.forName("com.beaufouripsen.seas.mapping.SeasV2").newInstance();
} catch (ClassNotFoundException cnfe) {
} catch (IllegalAccessException iae) {
} catch (InstantiationException ie) {
DatabaseLogin lc_login;
lc_server = lc_project.createServerSession();
lc_login = lc_server.getLogin();
DataSource lc_dataSource = null;
try {
Context lc_context = new InitialContext();
lc_dataSource = (DataSource) lc_context.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/SEAS");
} catch (NamingException e) {
Connector lc_connector = new JNDIConnector(lc_dataSource);
lc_login.setConnector(lc_connector);
lc_login.setUsesExternalConnectionPooling(true);
lc_login.setShouldTrimStrings(false);
lc_login.getPlatform().setUsesStreamsForBinding(true);
lc_server.login();
In the web.xml :
<resource-ref id="ResourceRef_1134138661750">
<res-ref-name>jdbc/SEAS</res-ref-name>
<res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
<res-auth>Application</res-auth>
<res-sharing-scope>Shareable</res-sharing-scope>
</resource-ref>
On the webshere server i configured a datasource and J2C Authentication Data Entries :
Resources/JDBC providers/oracle 9 JDBC driver/data Sources
JNDI name : jdbc/SEAS
It did not work very well, this error message was written : One or more resources rolled back. An unresolved LocalTransactionContainment had an unresolved action of rollback.
So I modified the ibm.web.ext-xmi to manage local transaction :
<extendedServlets xmi:id="ServletExtension_1134139478078">
<extendedServlet href="WEB-INF/web.xml#Servlet_1099905191078"/>
<localTransaction xmi:id="LocalTransaction_1134139478078" boundary="BeanMethod" resolver="Application" unresolvedAction="Commit"/>
</extendedServlets>
Now I have an error : Exception Description: com.ibm.websphere.ce.cm.ObjectClosedException: DSRA9110E: Connection is closed.
Any help will be appreciated.
Regards,
Annie

With only one user and one TopLink client session only one connection should be used from the pool. Are there any other application components using that connection pool? Does the application throw this error on the first Query? What operations are being performed prior to the exception? Scrollable Cursors?

    I recently downloaded 10.1.2.0/9.0.4.5 version of toplink from this location:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/904topsoft.html
    Is this the right version for WebSphere 5.1? If yes, where are the classes to enable External Transaction Controller?
    Why two version tags? Sorry for the dumb question.

    Yes this is the right version. See:

    The only way to get this information is through API calls. If you have a Server (oracle.toplink.threetier) you can ask the read and default (write) connection pools.

  • Toplink and VPD

    Hi,
    In a three-tier architecture, has anyone successfully implemented VPD in combination with Toplink and a ConnectionPool?
    When all my web-users are connecting to the database with the same (connection pool) credentials, how, when and where do I tell my database who is really logged in (web-user) and thus how to set the specific VPD for that web-user?
    Thanks. I already read another post on this forum mentioning that VPD support would be included in an upcoming release of TopLink.
    Re: toplink and Oracle VPD
    I also heard of a patch to download. Can anyone verify this?

    Just to add an extra question: Is it true that when one is using chained Toplink actions in a request-response cycle that each action will fetch its own connection from the pool and thus for each time a connection is fetched the VPD needs to be set again?
    This in contrast with BC4J, where all actions in a request-response cycle will share the same application module and thus the same connection.
    Bottom line: how to configure Toplink so that for each fetched connection it tells the database: "Hey, its me again, please set the application context (VPD) to my own personal values, so I will only see my own records"?
    . And to clean it up nicely: just before the connection is released to the pool: "Ok, I'm done, please reset the application context, so other users will not be bothered by my context".
    Hard to believe nobody has tried this before.

    Hello,
    It looks like you are using a TopLink managed connection pool and do not have enough connections available for the number of threads needing to use one. This results in threads having to wait until one is released from another thread. In the thread shown, it is waiting to get a read connection from the read pool.
    TopLink connection pools are described in the docs at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/doc/1013/main/_html/srvclius002.htm#CHDJAECD
    I'd recommend increasing the min/max number of connections to something that is appropriate to handle your peak load based on your applications usage paterns.

  • Lync 2013 Enterprise load balancing on the front end and edge pool

    Hi,
    I am setting up a Lync 2013 Enterprise deployment consisting of a Front End pool (x2 FE servers) and an Edge pool (x2 Edge servers).  I'm seeing some conflicting advice regarding load balancing using hardware or DNS for the front end and the edge.
    On the front end I have 2 internal DNS records 'lyncfepool1.contoso.local' each of which map to one of the IPs of the FE servers.  I've used my details to populate the Detailed Design Planner excel spreadsheet and am told that I require a HLB to load
    balance my front end pool.  I'm aware of the need to load balance HTTPS traffic internally (which will be done by TMG) however other traffic to the front end (SIP, etc) can be balanced by DNS only, and not require a HLB?
    Can someone clarify the front end requirement?
    Also - looking now at the edge pool - this site again have two edge servers in a pool.  We are using a total of six private IP addresses, two per edge service (2 x av.contoso.com, 2 x sip.contoso.com and 2 x webcon.contoso.com).  These will be
    NAT'ed by the external firewall and directed to the respective external (DMZ) IP addresses on the Edge servers on port 443.  I know this isn't true roundrobin due to the intelligence of the Lync client when connecting (in that the Lync client will connect
    to one of the public IPs and if it can't connect, it will know to connect to the other service IP), however I want to clarify this set up, particularly the need to direct the external public IP traffic at the DMZ Edge IP specified in the topology builder.
    I've attached a basic diagram of the external/DMZ/Edge side which hopefully helps with this question
    Persevere, Persevere, Per..

    That is because you will always need HLB for a front-end server since it hosts the Lync webservices which use HTTP/HTTPS traffic.
    The description on the calculation tool also describes this correctly:
    Supports Standard and Enterprise pools (up to 12 nodes), with pure device-based load balancing or a combination of DNS load balancing and device-based load balancing (for
    Lync web services)
    You can use either Hardware or DNS loadbalancing for SIP traffic only, but you will always need a HLB for the webservices.  Both are applicable for the Front-End so you have either
    full HLB for both SIP and HTTP(S) traffic
    DNS LB for SIP traffic and HLB for HTTP(S) traffic
    Hope this is more clear :-)

    Hi,
    I am Shanmugavel, SharePoint developer,
    I am facing the below SharePoint 2013 deployment issue while deploying using VS2012.
    If i will deploy the same wsp or existing wsp
    (last build) using direct powershell deployment, the solution adding properly, but the same timeout exception coming while activation the features.  Please find the below error.
    I tried the below activists:
    1. Restarted my dev server, DB server.
    2. tried the same solution id different server
    3. tried existing wsp file (last build version)
    4. Deactivated all the features, including project Active deployment configuration.... but still i am facing the same issue.
    I hope this is not coding level issue, because still my code is not start running, before that some problem coming.
    Please help me any one.....  Last two days i am struck because of this...

    What you need to understand is the installation of a WSP does not do much. It just makes sure that you relevant solution files are deployed to the SharePoint farm.
    Next comes the point when you activate the features. It is when the code which you have written to "Activate" certain features for your custom solution.
    Regarding the error you are getting, it typically means that you have more connections (default is I guess 100) open for a SQL database then you are allowed to.
    If you have a custom database and you are opening a connection, make sure you close it as well.
    Look at the similar discussion here:
    The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool. This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool
    size was reached[^]
    I would suggest further to look at the
    ULS logs[^] to get better insight.

  • EJB communication between weblogic and websphere

    Hello:
    I have weblogic 7.1 instance running in machine A and websphere running in machine B. I want to make a call to the ejb deployed from weblogic to websphere. Any experience in this would be very helpful. Or pl. post the procedure.
    Thx in advance.

    I don't think that there is any magic here, although I've never tried it.
    All you need is the compiled EJBHome and EJBObject interfaces in the
    classpath of the calling EJB, get an InitialContext in the JNDI namespace of
    the target EJB container using the name of the JNDI InitialContext Factory,
    do a lookup on the bean making sure to do a PortableRemoteObject.narrow when
    you are casting the Home stub with the vendor specific version of
    PortableRemoteObject(and that may be the real trick), call the appropriate
    create method, and you are rolling.
    I guess the question becomes how to make sure that when you are calling
    PortableRemoteObject.narrow on the Home stub, that you get the vendor
    specific version for the EJB container and JNDI namespace from which you are
    doing the lookup.
    I guess the answer is, I'm guessing. Have you tried it?

  • [Fwd: Re: rdbms realm and connection pool]

    Hi,
    One reason why I would like to use the connection pool for the RDBMS
    realm is because there is the retry machanism built into the connection
    pool. With this retry, I don't need to re-start WebLogic if the DB
    server is somehow re-started. With the current implementation, all the
    connections maintained by the realm will become invalid if the DB server
    has been restarted independently.

    I believe not- the realm restricts access to connection pools to those
    who
    are allowed it, so if the realm needs the connection pool to start up,
    and
    you can't open the connection pool without the realm then you have a bit
    of
    a no-chicken and no-egg situation, which is I believe one of the reasons
    why
    there is no use of connection pools, ejbs, jndi, servlets etc. in the
    realm
    (along with other reasons, like why would it be provided with a servlet)
    The delegate pool acts somewhat similarly to a connection pool, and can
    even
    use the same database, so I'm not sure what the advantage would be

  • How can I make WL 8.1 flush the cache and/or pool for 1.1 EJBs

    Hi,
    I'm using 1.1 deployment descriptors for my CMP entity bean that were previously
    used in the WL 5.1 version of my project.
    Things do get deployed but I've observed confusing information when monitoring
    the EJB via Admin Console.
    What appears is that the Weblogic container is not flushing the cache and/or pool
    after the bean has finished processing and also a sufficient time has expired
    (i.e. the idle-timeout-seconds)
    From what I've understood via the on-line information is that each EJB has its
    own cache (since I've not done anything special for that) and the instance in
    cache is only passivated when the cache is full and the server need to activate
    another instance. On passivation, it appears to be returning the instance to the
    pool. But its unclear/undocumented when the pool is cleared, if at all.
    What I want is that:
    1. A way to get my cached instance passivated
    2. A way to get my pooled instance flushed.
    The reason I'm looking into this is becasue in my case it appears that the cached/pooled
    instance are contributing to OutOfMemory errors and because of the nature of requirements,
    etc. we need to have the cache size be high for certain processing.
    Thanks
    Parasher

    I think it's probably best to contact technical support about this.
    There are different patches for different versions of WLS.
    I'd mention 'CR128026' to them to get started.

    Is there a way I can look it up online or do I have to contact the support
    folks
    and if so what should I need to tell them to convey which patch I'm talking
    about.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
    If you use 'Database' concurrency, then there is a patch available for
    some 8.1
    service
    packs to enable idle-timeout-seconds on the cache. I believe that this
    will be
    standard
    feature with the next service pack. There is no comparable mechanism
    for the
    pool in 8.1,
    this is a feature that is coming with the next major release of WLS.
    If the
    8.1 patch works
    for you, it can save you memory during off peak usage times. Notethat
    this
    patch does not
    work for 'Exclusive' concurrency.

  • OES11 SP2 - Linux File System and NSS Pools & Volumes

    Planning to install our first OES11 SP2 server into an existing tree - the
    idea is to run this new OES11 server virtualized on VMware ESXi 5.5
    The existing tree has two physical NW6.5SP8 servers running eDirectory
    Version 8.7.3.10b (NDS Version 10554.64). One of the existing Netware
    servers is used for DHCP/DNS, File Sharing from three NSS volumes and
    Groupwise 7.0.4 whilst the second server is used for FTP services and
    eDirectory redundancy. Ultimately the plan is to have two virtualized OES11
    SP2 server with one for file sharing and the other for making the move from
    GW7 to GW2012. And we're planning to stick with NSS for file sharing on the
    new OES11 SP2 server.
    I've come across a couple of posts for earlier versions of OES which
    recommended not to put the Linux Native OS File System and NSS storage
    pools/volumes on the same hard drive. Apparently the advice was a result of
    needing to allow EVMS to manage the drive which could be problemmatic.
    I've read the OES11 documentation which says that "The Enterprise Volume
    Management System (EVMS) has been deprecated in SLES 11, and is also
    deprecated in OES 11. Novell Linux Volume Manager (NLVM) replaces EVMS for
    managing NetWare partitions under Novell Storage Services (NSS) pools."
    So I'm wondering if there is still a compelling requirement to keep the
    Linux Native File System and NSS pools/volumes on separate hard drives or
    can they both now safely co-exist on the same drive without causing
    headaches or gotchas for the future?
    Neil

    Hi Willem,
    Many thanks for the further reply.
    So we can just use the VMWare setup to "split" the one physical drive into
    two virtual drives (one for the OS and the second for the pools).
    And I've seen posts in other forums about the need for a decent battery
    backed cache module for the P410i controller so I'll make sure we get one
    (probably 512Mb module + battery).
    Can I ask what is the advantage of configuring each VM's virtual disk to run
    on it's own virtual SCSI adapter (by setting disk1 to scsi 0:0, disk2 to
    scsi 1:0, and so on)?
    Cheers,
    Neil

  • Data source for application using both pooled and non pooled connections

    Hi guys.
    I am integrating Oracle's connection pooling into an existing application that had formerly used dbConnectionBroker. It looks like this task should be quite straightforward. However, for consistency, I would also like to replace other Connection logic within the application to use Oracle classes. This will involve using OracleDataSource to obtain a Connection object. ( without pooling ).
    So in this case, the application will use both pooled and non pooled Oracle connections. They will be connecting to the same database. The question I have is in regard to the use of data-sources.xml.
    Are there any special considerations for the required attribute values within data-sources.xml under this scenario ?
    Help will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards.
    Steve.

    Hi Steve -
    It should be feasible for you to define a single datasource using multiple location entries to indicate what sort of pooling behaviour you wish to use.
    If you lookup and use the "location" attribute, you will receive a javax.sql.DataSource object which will not provide connection pooling.
    If you lookup and use the "ejb-location" attribute you will receive a DataSource object that will support connection pooling operations.
    Note that this is using the emulated datasource approach, and transaction support is limited to a single resource (one database) for these datasources - you won't get 2PC support for transactions.
    If you need a transaction to span two separate resources (ie two databases in same tx) then you will need to use the non-emulated datasource approach.
    There is a chapter in the J2EE Services Guide which describes the datasource model we have with OC4J. This might provide you with some more useful information. See Chapter 11 - http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/ias/doc_library/903doc_otn/generic.903/a97690/ds3.htm#1004903

  • VPN ASA inside Interface and ip pool are one same Subnet

    Hi Everyone,
    I have configured RA VPN full tunnel.

    Hi Mahesh,
    It should work but I generally would not suggest having the same network on the LAN and also configured partially as a VPN Pool network.
    Your problem at the moment is simply lacking the NAT0 configuration for the traffic between LAN and VPN Pool.
    I would suggest changing the VPN Pool first and then configuring this
    object network LAN
    subnet 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.0
    object network VPN-POOL
    subnet
    nat (inside,outside) 1 source static LAN LAN destination static VPN-POOL VPN-POOL
    We have to use the line number "1" in the above command so that it gets moved to the top since your current Dynamic PAT would otherwise override it.
    In the future it would be best if you changed your current Dynamic PAT configuration to this
    nat (inside,outside) after-auto source dynamic any interface
    We simply add the "after-auto" to this Dynamic PAT configuration so that it gets moved down in priority. The "after-auto" refers to the fact that this NAT will be inserted after Auto NAT (after Section 2). Your current rule is Manual NAT (Sectiom 1). The new rule will be Manual NAT (Section 3)
