TOSHIBA HDD Protection

Hello,
When my laptop, a fairly new tecra 950, boots it gets stuck on the Windows 7 welcome screen. I can hear the harddrive make a sound. It not quite clicking more like its sliding or resetting every second or two. When I disable the HDD protection service through msconfig it boots fine and runs like normal.  Any ideas?   I already installed the latest update and bios firmware, but it didn't help.
Thanks

Hello! It's always a good idea to post your model number. It can be found on the bottom of your laptop. I would to a chkdsk and see what that turns up.
Open the "Computer" window
Right-click on the drive in question
Select the "Tools" tab
In the Error-checking area, click <Check Now

  • How do I enable Toshiba HDD Protection?

I have the Toshiba A500 17X and this facility was enabled when I first got the laptop but I kept getting messages all the time telling me the hard disk had been temporarily moved to a safe position or something like that, so I checked the box not to notify me anymore. I did not want to disable the feature completely, I just wanted rid of the annoying messages.
So now when I go back into it, it is now disabled and all greyed out so I am unable to enable it. I have searched everywhere and found very little help on this topic. How can I re-enable this feature? As far as I was aware, I never disabled it in the first place, I just selected not to be notified.

    Hey there!
I relized tonight that I had the same problem. Easy to fix it. No one click solution I'm afraid, you need to re-install Toshiba Hdd protection software, it is provided to you on the recovery dvd's.
Hope you get it sorted out.

Without knowing the bump that took place, could I ask how did you conclude that a protected sector in HDD made to lose 445 GB in space?  I’ve received that type of warning when I bump my PC all the time.
When you RUN “diskmgmt.msc”, does it report that healthy primary partition of approx. 600 GB  or so(provided HDD is not partitioned.) How much of it is its capacity and how much of it is free space?
Have you run a “Disk Defragmenter” besides CHkDSK?

HDD Protection Settings is Not Responding (?)
After disabling the program some time ago I would like to enable it again.
However, after I click on the HDD Graphic, in the PC Health Monitor, Im unable to make settings changes.
And then a pop up dialog box appears, when I close out, which reads: It was not able to set up correctly to the HDD Protection System Service
    Another source says Invalid Shortcut.
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\TOSHIBA\Utilities\HDD Protection Settings.Ink
Is there anyway to Re Activate this?
    Thx
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I got 'HDD Protection' up and running.
    Control Panel>Programs and Features>Scroll down>TOSHIBA HDD Protection>Right Click on that line item>Click Uninstall>Follow Instructions.
Then I recommend (if you have already Installed) Uninstalling Utility 'Advanced SystemCare' as I've read that it Deletes 2 or 3 of the most important files of HDD Protection; and personally, after I Right Clicked on HDD Protection, in All Programs, folders, above the Search Box, after clicking on the Windows Start Button, I Clicked on 'Short Cut Fix' and immediatedly Advanced SystemCare ran a Scan and read that the Short Cut to HDD Protection files had been changed, missing, or deleted (something to that effect) Therefore, Advanced SystemCare, is intergrated with HDD Protection, so I Uninstalled THAT Program, then Re-Started my notebook.
After program(s) are Uninstalled: Go to www.support.toshiba.com
Click on 'Drivers & Software' from the Right Console.
Enter Your computer's Model & Model Number.
And the recommended Software Version page will appear - but if you desire a different version, there is a listed link section on the extreme Left side of your Screen.
I went with the Default version, and after the Download/Install - it's just like New again!

  • Can not find HDD protection service

    Hello,
I have Satellite pro u 200. I have instaled new system (windows xp professional service pack 3). I installed most of tools and utillites and all work ok, but I have a problem with HDD protection. I doesn't start with the system. When I try to open it or open settings windows pops and it says
TOSHIBA HDD Protection - Setting Utility
Can not find HDD Protection Service.
    OK
    What can I do?

    Hi
    > I installed most of tools and utillites
What tools have you installed exactly?
For the Toshiba tools you have to install Common Modules first. Its necessary for all other tools. Check this!
Furthermore are you sure that Satellite Pro U200 is equipped with HDD protection?

  • HDD Protection - Check Disk / Defrag Problems

I believe the Toshiba HDD Protection utility has my hard drive write protected. I can't run a check disk (it cancels on its own) and I can't run a defrag. When I run check disk in repair mode, the error message specifically indicates the drive is write protected. Other attempts through other means indicates the drive is currently in use by another process.
I can boot in safe mode and the system responds. When logged in as a user the system is really slow. The system locks up when trying to disabled HDD Protection or responding to the pop-up that the head is temporarily moved to a safe position.

    Hi
Toshiba drivers and tools released for Win 8 or Win 8.1 are not fully comparable with the Toshiba software available for Win 7 OS.
Some drivers and tools which are available for Win 8 dont exist for Win 7 system.
For example; the Accelerometer Utilities or HDD Protection Utility were released especially for Win 8 / Win 8.1 system and are not available for Win 7.
But for Win 7 you will find the Toshiba VAP (value added package) and this package installs a range of important utilities which are essential component of Windows system and this VAP is required to make the other TOSHIBA original programs work properly.
Therefore you should install the VAP as first Toshiba tool to ensure that other software like HDD/SSD Alert Utility or PC Health Monitor

  • Could not Recover. Loaded Win7. Would like HDD Protection/Alerts

    System: Qosmio X505-Q894
    Hi all.
Long story short, after a bad experiment dual-booting Win7 & Linux, I was not able to restore my Qosmio to out-of-box status using the instructions in the Qosmio manual (pressing zero while booting up no longer brought up the recovery process). I loaded Windows 7 and installed the Toshiba drivers, which I downloaded directly from the Toshiba support site -- not all driver installations would run, but the following two did install:
    Toshiba HDD Protection tc30138700a.exe
    Toshiba HDDSSD Alert tc00143400m.exe
In my task bar, I see that TOSHIBA HDD Protection is running in the "normal state."  However, when I bump/tilt my PC, I no longer see any indication that HDD Protection has moved the drive head into a safe position.  I used to get some sort of feedback when the laptop was bumped.  I already have all notifications enabled in HDD Protection's settings.
Any ideas how to verify that HDD Protection is actually working?
    Thank you.

    Hi:
Try making your own W7 installation media using the W7 ISO to USB flash drive tool and see if the PC will boot from the USB flash drive and install W7.
You can use the W7 product key from your disk if you can get the file to install that way.
    Here's how...
Use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive or larger to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/
Once you get W7 installed you can use the windows 7 drivers from this model which has the same motherboard as yours.

  • HDD Protection update problem on Tecra A8-10F

I have a problem that the Toshiba HDD Protection Utility is not working and I dont know why.
    I searched for this driver and i didn't find for Tecra A8 10F PTA83E but I found for Tecra M9(PTM91)the HDD Protection Utility 2.0.1.7 Windows Vista) update from this site { http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/239805/toshiba-tecra-m9(ptm91)-hdd-protection-utility-2.0.1.7-windows-vista-free-download.html }
I installed it into my laptop but the problem is that this utility is not protecting from shocking the laptop, i put all protection settings on default, and still not protecting.
Maybe because the driver for Toshiba Tecra M9?
So please can anyone give me this Toshiba HDD Protection Utility software?
you can send me to my email : [email protected] or give me site address :)
note: i searched it in this site about this driver and i didn't find it :(

    Hi
In my opinion the HDD utility does not work on your Tecra A8 because the used software was not designed for the A8 but for M9.
The Toshiba European driver page does not provide the HDD Protection Utility for Vista.
But I found one for the Tecra A9.

Check the HDD protection utility for Tecra A9 on the A8. Maybe it will work

  • Cant install Toshiba HDD Accelerator and HDD Protection

Hi. I bought a new Satellite L845 SP4105LA one month ago with Windows 8 Single Language pre installed. But since I already got a genuine copy and key for Windows 8 Pro myself, I decided to install that edition. It all went well, I installed all the drivers, but I just cant install the Toshiba HDD Accelerator and HDD Protection. When trying to install HDD Accelerator an error windows appears that reads "Environment not supported (2008)", i tried with several versions of that program but always happens the same. With the HDD Protection, it just unpacks the files and then nothing happens. Is there a way for me to install this utilities? Thank you.

    Satellite L845-SP4105LA (PSKF8P-01PAR1)
Windows 8 already has Windows 8 Pro built in. You just need to unlock it.
My advice is to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media, and then upgrade normally to Pro. All the Toshiba utilities will have been properly installed.

  • Portege M800-107: Power Management & HDD Protection Utility questions!

    Hi all,
I own a Toshiba Portege M800-107, I have recently installed windows 7 (ultimate edition), which enhanced my laptop capabilities. The only problems I face are:
    1) The Power Management utility, where I have install the required drivers from the official page of Toshiba, the problem is that the Value Added package is installed without the power management. For now I over come the problem by using the power options offered by Windows 7.
    2) The most important problem is the HDD Protection Utility which every time I try to install the driver from the official site, it stops the installation with the reason that this "hardware is not supported by this computer"
Apart those problems the laptop is working perfectly and faster.
If any one could assist me with my problems I would be very appreciated.

    > 1) The Power Management utility, where I have install the required drivers from the official page of Toshiba, the problem is that the Value Added package is installed without the power management. For now I over come the problem by using the power options offered by Windows 7.
There is no special Power Saver tool for Win 7. The Value added package provides some additional options which you can find in Win 7/Vista power management.
    Check this HowTo:

    > 2) The most important problem is the HDD Protection Utility which every time I try to install the driver from the official site, it stops the installation with the reason that this "hardware is not supported by this computer"
The HDD Protection Utility using the acceleration sensor built in the computer.
The point is that there are different M800 on the market and possibly your M800 does not support the acceleration sensor. This could be the reason why you cannot install this tool.

  • Satellite P70-A-11V - does HDD protection work without accelerometer?

    Hi all,
    I am new here.
I already made another post. In brief, I am pretty much expert in Toshiba Satellite laptops, but my new one, Satellite P70-A-11V, a high-end professional laptop, had some issues. It came with Windows 8, which I upgraded to 8.1. Unfortunately, the system degraded so bad that all pendrives made it crash. I connected my Toshiba camcorder to it, and it also crashed the laptop.
The search indexing was not working outside the C: drive. The pointer of any optical mouse started to freeze for seconds on the screen.
This latter I believe was due to underpowered USB ports.
So, I really had no choice after 2 total system restores, and installed Windows 7 Enterprise x64, SP1. The OS looks almost ok, but I still have problems, and one of these is that however I try to install the accelerometer utilities, there is no driver.
I tried the one for Windows 8 x64, but it just does not appear on the services list.
I found that the HDD protection utility was also stopped, and I searched this forum, and someone told that the Intel Rapid Storage technology should be uninstalled. I did so, and my HDD protection is running... but I am not sure if it is effective!
I remember that with the Windows 8.1, the utility always showed a message on the upper right corner: Vibration is detected etc, that the disk is temporarily shut down etc.
It was associated with some high pitch noise indicating that the disk was indeed stopped. Now I can shake the laptop, but no message pops up, no sound is heard.
I checked all the checkboxes at the HDD protection interface to indicate if there is vibration, but so far nothing. The HDD protection is up and running, but in the absence of accelerometer utility, the HDD protection just does not know when to act.
Am I right? Can Toshiba medicate this?
    All answers are greatly appreciated.

  • Old external Toshiba HDD not working with Windows 7

I feel as if this problem is going to affect more and more people. Having searched the internet without luck, I felt the need to address the issue here!
I have an external 320GB Toshiba HDD, model: PX1267E-1G32 which Windows 7 (64Bit Professional) does not recognise. It does not show up in my computer and states the device is not working properly. Troubleshooting does not help, and it suggests i have the latest driver for it (version 6.1.7600.16385)
I can not find any support for this device. I have read some people trying to tackle the password protection it comes with (a separate partition with this function) but this is not an issue for me as i never use it. There are drivers on that partition as well which have no affect on windows when i have transferred them via a flash stick.
On my laptop Windows XP is installed and it finds the HDD without any problems. This has lead me to believe there is a fault with compatibility within the newer windows systems. I have tried formatting the drive, reinstalling drivers and searching for a solution. I really can not believe this has not been resolved somewhere and fear with it being an older discontinued product (Mid 2006) there will be little support for it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    hi urbancoffy,
    boah what a hell....
let's look if there is a cure.....
this device is recognized under every other system than yours, right?
if so maybe your software is misconfigured or your usb connection is bad....
    how to determine?
try other devices like an usb-stick
check bios if legacy usb support is on
check device manager (device plugged in) if it shows any information like a //dev_xxxx
if your usb port is ok
goto device manager and remove all usb devices (show hidden devices)
reboot and let the system determine the hub etc
plug in usb-hdd and see if it will be detected - keep in mind: you dont have to load a driver for a usb storage device by yourself
if the usb ports are ok and your hdd is recognized by other systems maybe it's time for a recovery of your system....
