Total newbie with questions

Hi, I've just started trying to create forms with Designer 7.0. I have managed to import a Word document and have found it easy to tweak the appearance and add different types of fields, but I have a couple of questions that I just can't figure out.
1. I have created text fields in certain areas, but when I preview the PDF, there is a "T" at the beginning of each field that I can't delete. How can I get rid of this marker?
2. I have to add several signature fields to some of the forms, and want at least one signature to make the entire form read-only. The forms will be electronically signed, and it is essential that no changes can be made once the signature has been applied, and that the signature itself cannot be copied and pasted into another record. How do I do that in Designer 7.0?
Thanks in advance. I'm sure these are pretty easy functions, but I just can't seem to figure them out on my own.

2. When you digitally sign a document, there is a green check mark that appears in the signature field. When you change the document, or sign a second field, that green check mark turns into a green check mark with a yellow caution triangle, indicating that the document has been changed since it was signed (in this example a new signature was added, but it could just as easily have been content that was changed). I assume that with Javascript you could go through and make all the fields read-only, but I'm not sure what you'd be accomplishing, since the signature field shows whether or not anything has been changed.
I don't know of a way to copy signatures into another record, so I think you're safe there.

  • Total newb var question

    Hello :) ,
    so Im a total newb :(
    I am trying to make this code into a function....
    <code>
    jd_label.setIcon(new javax.swing.JLabel(){
    public javax.swing.Icon getIcon(){
    try {
    return new javax.swing.ImageIcon(
    new java.net.URL("http://ns2.taproot.bz/java/prima_interface/thumbs/02.jpg")
    catch (java.net.MalformedURLException e){
    return null;
    }.getIcon());
    </code>
    problem is, Im such a new i dont know how to use a var on this line...
    jd_label.setIcon(new javax.swing.JLabel(){
    I would like jd_label to be a $var but java just wants to update
    a label named "var".... i.e.
    JLabel jd = new Jlabel();
    string fred = jd
    fred.setIcon()
    but this freaks out... in PERL it seems the vars are a little more
    reconazable...
    $fred.setIcon();
    Could some one please help me :)
    Thanks in advance,
    jd

    Thank you :)
    Im still confused...but that will pass in time
    As for the code in the first post... that was from a scrip i wrote
    but the section i posted NetBeans wrote. here is the whole scrip...
    All i really want to do is put pictures on labels...and i thought, why write
    the same code for every button, ill just make a function out of the whole setIcon bit and call it for each label that needs a picture, passing the url of the picture off to the function... Below gets me one pic on one label, so
    how can i reproduce this efffect on other lables using the same code over and over?
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class HelloWorldSwing {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    JFrame frame = new JFrame("HelloWorldSwing");
    JLabel label = new JLabel("Hello World");
    JLabel jd_label = new JLabel();
         JTextField tex = new JTextField("sup suka");
         JPanel pan = new JPanel();
         pan.setLayout(new GridLayout(1,3,10,10));
         pan.add(label);
         pan.add(jd_label);
         pan.add(tex);
    // i wanna make this bit into a fuction to reuse
         jd_label.setIcon(new javax.swing.JLabel() {
    public javax.swing.Icon getIcon() {
    try {
    return new javax.swing.ImageIcon(
    new java.net.URL("http://ns2.taproot.bz/java/prima_interface/thumbs/02.jpg")
    } catch (java.net.MalformedURLException e) {
    return null;
    }.getIcon());
         frame.getContentPane().add("Center", pan);
         frame.pack();
    frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
    frame.pack();
    frame.setVisible(true);

  • Safari newbie with questions

    Hi all,
    I'm new to this forum and to Safari. I like the Top Sites feature and that's the main reason I've decided to give this browser a try. I do have a couple questions about it though...
    1) Safari has a built-in pop-up ad blocker but there doesn't seem to be a way to block web ads from sites. I was able to do this with another browser using a plugin but Safari doesn't seem to even have the option to add one. There must be a way. If anyone knows how could you please let me know!
    2) Why is there no drop-down arrow in the address bar for recently visited URLs? I'm very surprised that Apple's developers made this oversight.
    3) Is there a way to customize what extension is added to a web site name to autocomplete it? For example, most browsers are designed by default to add the "www." and ".com" to the name of a web site if you press CTRL+Enter. I'd like to be able to do the same with ".ca" web sites by using CTRL+Shift. Is there a way in Safari to do this?
    I find the Preferences section to be somewhat lacking in customization. Surprising considering this is such a feature-rich browser.

    Hi k,
    Pages can open docx files, Numbers can open xlsx files. Each can export to  can export .doc or .xls to the newest Word or Excel format.respectvely, but not to the more recent .docx or .xlsx.
    Translation is not perfect in either direction. Numbers and Excel handle some similar features (eg. pop-up menus vs data validation) differently, and the translator cannot translate from one implementation to the other.
    If muc of your work is going to be transferred between your machine and Windows machines running either MS Excel or MS Word, with editing taking place at both ends of the tunnel, then you'll probably be better off with Office, or one of the Office clones on the Mac end.
    Pages and Numbers can work together to perform mail merge, and tre merged document(s) can be sent via email.
    I haven't used the feature enough to offer any details beyond that.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • ITouch Newb with Questions

    Actually, I'm not even a Newb yet...I am planning on getting an iTouch after Xmas (with my expected gift cards ). I have a few concerns that I would love to hear more about if anyone would like to comment:
    1. The 32GB iTouch says it can hold 7000 songs and/or 40 hours of video. How much memory does an average movie take up? For example, Iron Man.
    2. I've been reading the forums to get better acquainted with the iTouch before I get one and there seem to be a lot of recurring issues/bugs: iTunes not recognizing it, some movies not playing, etc. Does this have to do with the 2G iTouch being new and possibly having normal "new tech" bugs? Should I buy one now or wait until these are worked out?
    Or am I worrying over nothing?
    3. If I get my 32GB iTouch in Dec/Jan...will a larger capacity one come out in a couple of months? I see the classic iPod goes up to 120GB.
    Any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm one of those people that researches a product to death before buying it.
    Thanks!

    Answer #1: How long is a piece of string? The amount of space a movie takes up will depend on the running time of the movie, what bitrate you encode it at, yadda yadda yadda. To give you a ballpark figure, I've got 10 videos on my iPod at the moment (7 full length movies, 2 TV shows, and one music video) they're taking up 6.6 gig of space.
    Answer#2: Your doctor only gets to talk to sick people all day. Don't be too put off by all the posts here , this is merely the distillation of the folks having problems. For every one post you read here, there are thousands of people you don't hear from because they're not having problems they need to bring here.
    Answer #3: I left my crystal ball at the office. But having said that, better iPods will come out in the future, thats a given. How long?, at the moment very large capacity Flash RAM is still very pricey stuff, I don't think you'll be seeing 120Gb IPT's any time soon.
    You're not worrying over nothing, you've posted very valid considerations, you just need to look at 'em in context.

  • Newbie with question on time to create win partiton

    Hi,
    I just took delivery of my 1x2.8 quad mac pro. So far it's great.
    My ultimate goal is to install bootcamp and windows xp home then implement vmware to handle indivudial windows apps.
    I just installed a seagate 1tB hard drive to put windows and extra storage on it.
    When I booted os/x the first time, the system didn't recognize the 2nd drive. I formatted the drive without journaling; was that a mistake?
    I am running bootcamp assistant and I told it to create a 220gB partition for windows and the remainder to os/x.
    That step has been running with the blue/white barber pole spinning for about 90 minutes. Is this normal? How long should it take to complete this partitioning process.
    Thanks, in advance

    Some resources:
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ - read the pdf and FAQ and other articles
    BootCamp Forum:

    You should kill it, a minute is enough.
    If you want OS X then it has to be default (Mac OS Extended Journal).
    You could also just make the drive as Master Record Block and devoted to Windows.
    If you don't need to run XP natively you could just use Fusion.

  • Help for a total newb with e65

    Hi All,
    Please help, I got the E65 and good posts about getting the wlan working.
    But I got the navigator app with it, and I really dont get all this GPS stuff , with it working off satellite, but charging my mobile with data chrages, software that works with recievers and phones, some symbian.
    Somebody explain it all in lamens terms please.
    Cheers

    Hi kiltedscot
    Can I use this analogy, if you buy a TomTom car navigation unit the package includes the hardware (processor + GPS receiver) and navigation software for a fixed but known cost (there is no charge for receiving data from GPS satellite system owned by the US Government)
    You have purchased the processor (E65), you need to purchase a Bluetooth GPS receiver to get positional data, the Symbian navigation software is provided free and if you download maps via your PC there is no need to incur GPRS data charges. If however you want a full talking navigation option, you do need to purchase a licence which in UK is just over £40 for 3 years.

    I put the system together with no problems but I am at a loss as how to install the Chipset software
    In the readme file it says to use either the Infinst_xxx.exe or infinst_xxx.zip.
    All I can find on my drivers and utility disk is Infinst_enu & The software installation utility.I know I am dumb but I just cannot get my head around the instructions in the Readme fle.Any help would be appreciated and a walkthrough of how to set about it would be brilliant.
    I have built a couple of systems in the past one based on the Abit kt7A raid board.
    Their installation manual was exceptionally clear and I had no problems !l

    Hi,
    No one is DUMB when trying to find answers......
    OK, explore CD (If you do not have auto run) go to chipset then Intel......click setup and away you go........

  • Powerbook newbie with questions

    I bought a used 17-inch Powerbook 1.33GHz on eBay that was non-functional. I sent it in to DT&T Service of Fremont, CA, and they replaced the logic board and one 256MB RAM chip.
    Sometimes when I start it up it goes into a procedure that I think is called Bootstrap. I'm not sure about the name, but obviously it's related to the OS starting up. It's like command line text.
    Eventually, I see multiple errors relating to a problem with the sound chip, and the Powerbook doesn't emit any sound.
    I'm going to contact DT&T and ask them about these problems, but any advice here is appreciated.
    G4 MDD 1.25GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    I believe this is the last two boots from the system log. The very top of this string of commands starts with something about Timeslicing 10000 us. It doesn't seem to show up in this log.
    Thanks.

  • Newbie with question about the $400 Deposit for FIOS TV Service

    Okay, i was real happy when i found Fios is finally available in my area after years of waiting.  I call to order and theysay i need to post a 400 dollar deposit for fios tv.  I ask why and they say combination of poor credit and also the fact that the TV equipment as in the DVR boxes are very expensive and they just want security.  Its fullt refundable after 1 year.  However, to my suprise i was approved for FIOS Internet And Phone Service or Double freedom plan 20/5 internet and Freedom Phone plan both for $64 Dollars monthly 2 year guarantee.  Also get the 100 dollars cash back in for of the debit card.  My problem is that i dont need any verizon equipment for the Televisions as all my tvs in the home have tivo.  All i need is the cablecard decoder which i am sure are considerably less expensive than the Home media dvr or regular dvr.  Is there a way to get around this or am i stuck without fios tv until i put up the 400 dollars?  Is there a higher power i can appeal to??

    Thanks for the many previous replies.....  I solved my problem by calling verizon and using my wifes maiden name.  Now i will have all 3 fios services with no $400 dollar deposit.

  • Newbie with question about mouse wheel button

    Sorry in advance if this is too simple, but I'm trying to create an interactive website that requires scene switching by way of the mouse wheel button.
    I'm creating mutliple interactive labeled images that I want to be able to scroll through by using the mouse wheel button but I don't know the action script code.
    Any help?
    Furna.

    Hi Kglad I have a small query about your code correct me if I am wrong some where. You used following lines to
    create  movie clip,
    set focus on it,
    and add event listener to it.
    the lines are
    var tl:MovieClip = this
    stage.focus = tl
    tl.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_WHEEL,f);
    Now say I have a button on stage and I click it once. the focus will change to the button. and hence we will have to set the focus again to tl after processing button click.  am I correct on this?
    we can alternatively use
    stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_WHEEL,f);
    which will always listen to the scroll event no matter where the focus is, or is there some problem which might occur due to this?

  • Newbie with question!!!

    Hey there fellow Mac lovers! I just got my Black MacBook a month or so ago and am absolutely loving it!!! It's excellent!
    However, as it's a laptop, the speakers can't be expected to be too loud, so I'm looking for some external speakers.
    Does anybody have any suggestions? I'd really like to spend about $150 or less for a decent pair for my bedroom.
    Then I'd also like to get a cheaper and smaller, more portable pair that I can carry on the motorcycle in my backpack to take to work daily.
    Any suggestions?? I havn't had a Mac since the one my parents had in 96', and it was a desktop and we didn't need speakers, but it was very hard finding ANYTHING that was compatible. I'm not sure if these new ones are that hard in terms of finding software, but I've got no clue about what speakers will work for these things!!!
    Cheers all and thanks in advance for all your help!!!
    Sean

    Check out Bose. I have the Companion® 2 Series II multimedia speaker system. They sound great for such a small footprint, but then again, that's what Bose is known for.

  • Newbie script question... consecutive numbers with update.

    complete newbie type question... this is also my first post.  ( I am using CS3)
    does anyone have a script which can make it so I can add numbers into the text consecutively.
    for example, if this is my text "the big fat dog sat on the very wide mat, but was then displaced by a unfriendly cat."
    and I wanted to place a number 1, number 2, 3, etc at points in the text so it read, "the big fat dog1 sat on the very wide mat2, but was then displaced by a unfriendly cat3." but later wanted to add another number and have later numbers update themselves, so the text then said, "the big fat dog1 sat on the very wide mat2, but was then displaced3 by a unfriendly cat.4".
    by inserting the three, the previous three became four.
    Has anyone got something which might be useful in this regard.
    Many thanks
    Steve

    i wanted to avoid footnotes as they leave a bar at the bottom of each page.
    i wanted a script to do something similar to footnotes but not much further.
    does anyone have just a simple script that can do what I asked?
    Steve

  • Newbie wireless question (slightly off-topic)

    I didn't want to post this here as it's not entirely an Airport-specific question. I posted this to the iBook forums, but nobody there has answered so my apologies if this is not welcome here. (Any moderators can remove it if that's the case.)
    I've been using computers extensively for over a decade, but I'm a total newbie to wifi. I just set up a wireless network in my house and would appreciate some advice/feedback.
    My main concerns are whether or not my network is reasonably secure. I know there is no such thing as perfect security, but I don't know if what I've done is good enough or not.
    I don't have an Airport base station, but I do have a D-Link Airplus G and an Airport card in my iBook. I have WEP set up on the router and I have enabled MAC filtering, listing only my desktop and my iBook, excluding all others from the network.
    I'm fairly certain that nobody in my neighborhood is going to get into my machines this way or be able to sniff my network data stream, but am I right in assuming that nobody can "piggyback" on my Internet connection too? Presumably, if everyone but my own machines are MAC-filtered and kept out, then the Internet connection is also protected. Is that how it works?

    WEP and MAC filtering are better than nothing, but you can do better. These are my suggestions:
    1. Use WPA with a pre-shared key (PSK) and TKIP encryption on your Netgear router, along with an alphanumeric passphrase of at least eight characters not found in any dictionary. The equivalent setting on your Mac is "WPA Personal". Unlike WEP security (which an expert can crack in under half an hour), WPA security is currently unhackable by any practical means as long as you use a non-dictionary passphrase. One last point - WPA security requires all your wireless Macs to be running MacOS 10.3 or newer.
    2. MAC filtering is (these days) essentially useless as a wireless security method. Using "packet sniffing" of traffic on your wireless network to find out what MAC addresses are used by computers on your network, and a PC that allows its MAC address to be cloned so that it is identical to the MAC address of one your own wireless computers (which is possible with most PC wireless network adapters) even an amateur hacker can defeat MAC address filtering in minutes.
    By the way - I don't think your posted message here is off topic. In my opinion, the Airport discussion forums are the best place to post any questions related to usage of wireless networks. Questions of this nature are virtually never specific to any Mac model.

  • Login/password to SQL plus - 100% Totally newbie!

    Dear users,
    I'm a 100% Totally newbie - please bear over with me and forgive that I couldn't find the answer to my question in the arhive although I'm sure somebody else has asked exactly this question. And please don't say RTFM etc, because there are a huge amount of manuals etc for oracle and I'm 100% newbie and never worked with Oracle SQL before.
    Introduction: I've installed Oracle 11.2 Enterprise Edition and want to go through some step-by-step tutorials - e.g. this tutorial: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a90842/ch1.htm#1005898
    The tutorial says:
    "The Human Resources (HR) Sample Schema is installed as part of the default Oracle9i installation. The HR user is locked by default.
    You need to unlock the HR tables and user before you can use the HR sample schema. To unlock the HR tables and user, log in as the SYSTEM user and enter the following command:"
    Question: I cannot figure out my password, perhaps I entered something during install but how do I get password for the "SYSTEM" user?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
    There's no way to find out what a password is.
    You can log in as some other user who has DBA privileges (such as SYS), and change SYSTEM's password.
    If you've forgotten the SYS password, too, then log into the server as the same user who installed Oracle, or as some user in the ora_dba group. You should be able to log in as SYS. When asked for a password, just press the enter key, like this:
    C:> SQLPLUS /NOLOG
    SQL> CONNECT SYS AS SYSDBA
    Enter password: <enter>
    Connected.
    SQL>  ALTER USER SYSTEM IDENTIFIED BY new_password;
    User altered
    SQL>  CONNECT  SYSTEM
    Enter password: new_password
    Connected
    SQL>

  • A newbie first question: fpga synchronous input

    Hi all
    this is my first time to send a question at this forum
    it is also the first time to use Labview, I am totally newbie
    My problem is:
    I have Xilinx Spartan 3A FPGA with a design runs at 10 MHz " derived from the 50 MHz of the On-board clock"
    I want to test my design by appling inputs to the FPGA and watching the output
    so how to apply predefined synchronous inputs that are synchronized to the my design clock
    thanks in advance

    Good Afternoon msaleh87,
    What supporting hardware are you using with your Xilinx Spartan 3A FPGA?  The only NI hardware that the Xilinx Spartan 3A FPGA is found in are the sb-RIOs and the cRIO-9072 and cRIO-9074.
    What Xilinx FPGA Chips Are Used by National Instruments RIO
    Devices?
         http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/ED6FC9CF7B983CFD86256DCE0072E313?OpenDocument
    Please elaborate on what you are trying to accomplish with this project.  Also, please give some more details (such as source, speed, type, etc.) of your predefined synchronous inputs.
