Trace on air application runtime

Hi,
I want to see trace statement when i run my air .exe files. How to do that? Few of them ask to use the ADL,But I am not much aware of that.On my client place some time my air application get crash. Can i able to log the trace files ?
Thanks,
Siva

Hi Siva,
You're on the right track.  To get trace output you'll want to use adl.exe to launch your application.  Please see this doc for details:

  • Is it possible to make an air application maximizable/non-maximizable programmatically at runtime?

    Is it possible to make an air application maximizable/non-maximizable programmatically at runtime?

    Sort of. Technically it's a NativeWindow which is maximizable or not, not the app itself. A NativeWindow is created as maximizable or not via NativeWindowInitOptions, and it can't be changed after it's created. Now, when you setup the "default content" window options with AIR, the runtime is basically creating the first window for you as a convenience, with those settings. However, there's nothing stopping you from making your initial content nothing more than a hidden window which will create a new window as maximizable or not. At this point, it would not be hard to re-create your main window with different maximizable values. (This is also how I implement multiple-instance/window apps, since only 1 AIR app can be running at a time.)
    Hope that helps!

  • Adobe Air application installation using the bundled runtime installer

    Hello.
    We plan to develop application for different platforms with Adobe Air and testing installing Air applications with bundled runtime installer on different platforms. It's ok with Windows and Mac OS, but we got troubles with "silent" installation on Ubuntu OS 9.10.
    I tried to install Adobe Air application with bundled runtime, like in this document in part "Silent installation":
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/redist/WS485a42d56cd19641-70d979a8124ef20a34b-8000.html
    using command-line:
    "sudo ./MyInstaller -silent simple-air-air-application-1.0-SNAPSHOT.air"
    and installation fails. Installation log looks like this:
    [setup:2306][INFO] Runtime Installer begin with version 2.6.0.19140 on Linux x86
    [setup:2306][INFO] Commandline is: -silent simple-air-air-1.0-SNAPSHOT.air
    [setup:2306][INFO] No installed runtime detected
    [setup:2306][INFO] Invoking Application Installer for combined install
    [setup:2306][INFO] Launching subprocess with commandline /tmp/air.QMrLZl/build/opt/Adobe AIR/Versions/1.0/Adobe AIR Application Installer -runtime /tmp/air.QMrLZl/build/opt -silent -withRuntime -url file:///tmp/air.QMrLZl/simple-air-air-1.0-SNAPSHOT.air
    [setup:2306][ERR] Subprocess app installer failed (-1)
    [setup:2306][ERR] Runtime Installer end with exit code 7
    P.S. We tried do the same on Linux Mint 10. Everything's fine, application getting installed well.

    Thanks for the reply and solution MrSykes.
    I uninstalled adobe AIR and ran a file and registry cleaner to delete any left over files and installs.
    Then installed the v.15 Adobe AIR beta as recommended.
    The cleaners I used (ccleaner & jv16 power tools) did find some temporary install files and remnants of the Video Alchemy install.
    Tried the install again and still no installation window displays.
    I'm running Windows 7 on my PC and even changed the installation file compatibility to Windows XP service pack 2 to no avail.
    Funny that it installed fine on my notebook with Adobe AIR latest version running Windows 7.
    I'm watching task manager as I'm attempting the install and videoalchemy.exe has some cpu usage then drops to zero activity.
    Then Adobe AIR application Installer starts up then cycles to zero cpu activity.
    I'm stumped on this one :-(
    Thanks again for investing the time on my behalf.
    Regards
    Stephen

  • AIR runtime and AIR applications built using Captive Runtime still need Admin Privilege to Install

    I am working on a small project to install AIR application(native .exe & .dmg) with AIR runtime without needing the Administrator privilege so I used Captive runtime but the installation is still asking for admin privilege
    I bundled AIR application with AIR runtime using Captive runtime from flash builder 4.6, then I packaged this into a .MSI using Advanced Installer. Now when I install it for a user without admin privilege it prompts me for Admin credentials.
    Can you please tell me if
    1. I need AIR distribution license to install AIR runtime without Admin privilege
    2. Do I need a different installer
    3. Am I missing any step here
    Thank you

    If you're installing to a location where Windows requires elevated privileges, like Program Files, you'll need to have admin privileges to continue.  Are you using an AIR based native installer or have you taken the application with the captive runtime and rolled this up in your own installer?
    Here's a section from the Installation and deployment options in Adobe AIR 3 article that might help:
    Installation privileges
    When designing an installer, one has the option to choose from approaches that may or may not require administrative privilege. For example, a drag-and-drop install on Mac OS X requires no special privilege; users can always copy the application into their own application folders, for which they have the necessary permissions. On the other hand, if registry keys must be written to the machine-specific portion of the registry on Windows, installation of that application will require administrative privilege to do so.
    The two installer formats directly supported by AIR, AIR files and native installers, have always required administrative privilege. This was a design decision made in part to simplify the implementation of the AIR installers: If administrative privilege is assumed to be available, implementation is possible if the registry can be written to, and so on. It was also selected because, in many enterprises, this is the desired behavior: administrators can use the privilege requirement to gate software installation.
    All the same, there are scenarios where supporting installation without requiring administrative privileges is desirable, or even necessary. This can now be achieved using custom installers; you simply need to author an installer that operates correctly with only standard user privilege. In practice this can be easy to achieve; a simple install-by-copy to a writable location (that is, in the user's own folder) will suffice. Should you author a more complex installer, you should keep in mind that the addition of certain operations during the install process will in turn reintroduce the requirement for administrative privileges.

  • AIR captive runtime application for MacOS

    Hi!
    I create application with captive runtime for Windows and MacOS. I have some problem connected with MacOS specific, cause I'm newbie in this OS.
    I dont want to publish my app in appstore, cause the app have problems with appstore rules.
    1) How I should to sign my application? I just pack my app as described in manual http://help.adobe.com/en_US/air/build/WSfffb011ac560372f709e16db131e43659b9-8000.html but I don't see any track of code sign in my .app. I thought that it isn't a problem, before I download my app from network - it don't want to run because dveloper unidentified.
    2) My application require update system. I Realize it simply for Windows: my AIR application download updates if it necessary (resources, air lib, main swf file, and exe) and then I replace files with other program. There is no problems with updates, cause codesign is only spread on exe file.
    But as I understood I can't use same way to update my .app cause it destroy my codesign, as I know. So, how I should update my MAC app?
    UPD1: I found a bit information about 1st here: How to sign your Mac OS X App for Gatekeeper | Successful Software. So, I can't use not apple's sign certificate?

    It's a good idea to add :tumbleweed: smile to this forum
    I spent 3 days for searching answer and making experiments. So, as a result:
    1) To pass MacOS Gatekeeper I should use apple developer certificate.
    2) I could change content of signed .app file as I wish. I don't try it with my own app because my certificate is not ready yet, but I successfully change contents of few other signed apps - no issues with running was detected. Maybe there is any problem with my understanding of signature..

  • What Runtime is Flash Builder using when running or debugging an AIR application?

    I just updated my AIR runtime to 3.0 and noticed that my AIR application doesn't work anymore (my logfile reports an Uncaught Error #1508). So I tried to debug it with Flash Builder, but when I run it there, everything works just fine. So I uninstalled the AIR runtime completely but noticed that I can execute my AIR app within Flash Builder still just fine. So the AIR runtime used within Flash Builder seems to be a different one than the systemwide installed AIR runtime. How Do I chose within Flash Builder which runtime to use and how do I update this runtime?

    When you use Flash Builder, it uses the copy of the AIR SDK that is inside the Flex SDK. This has a complete AIR runtime that is used for debugging. You can choose which AIR runtime to use by switching to a Flex SDK that has a different version of AIR. You can update any Flex SDK by copying the new AIR SDK into it, replacing any existing AIR files. (On a Mac there are some gotcha's here because copied folders are replaced not combined.)

  • How to play and stop flv files through NetStream in AIR Application

    Hi,
    In a folder I have 'n' number of flv file, which are DRM protected. when the user try to play those files for the first time through my AIR application, it will prompt for username and password and gets the license/voucher from the server and store it in AIR Runtime. so that from the next time onwords it won't prompt for username and password as because it already has license/voucher.
         My problem is assume there are 500 files, such that for each file the user has to enter his credentials[username and password]. which is a stupid thing. I want to avoid this process by implementing this process internally/programetically. By playing/accessing each file through netstream from the folder and setDRMAuthenticationCredentials for that file and stop the stream. Here I am able to play each file but I am failed to stop it. I mean to say I will get the license for all the flv files internally[while loading my AIR application], such that user should not be interrupted for his credentials for each file.He should play as if he is accessing/playing a non-DRM protected file. I will be very thank full if any one help me out in this.

  • Deployment of an Adobe AIR application in an enterprise environment

    Dear Team members,
    first of all my apologies for posting this thread in more than one forum (see Installations Issues) but the argument is very important to us and I don't know where discuss it.
    I would like to post a question to you regarding deployment doubts that we are trying to address.
    My company is working on the new version of our primary application previously built as a J2EE application with some reporting functions with Flex, and we want to use AIR in order to leverage its possibilities:
    Seamless integration with existing application functionalities (implemented as standard JEE web application pages) thanks to the integrated HTML capabilities
    Improved integration of the user interface with the desktop
    Native processes to provide additional functionalities
    Our application is targeted to pharmaceutical industry, subject to FDA regulations, and it affects more than 5000 users for each customer, so we have some specific requirements affecting the deployment and distribution of the software:
    Allow to run multiple versions of the software on the same client machine (to support test and acceptance activities in addition to the production environment)
    Minimize the effort of the initial setup on each client
    Manage the version upgrades without manual activities on each client
    Keep the test/acceptance and production environments strictly aligned to improve effectiveness of formal validation (ideally, an application once validated should be transported in production without any source code modification, recompilation or repackaging)
    The current browser-based strategy is perfectly fit to these requirements, and in the shift towards a desktop-based strategy we need to continue satisfying them as much as possible. We evaluated the standard distribution strategy of Adobe AIR applications, and noticed several attention points in this scenario.
    The first issue we encountered is the back-end services endpoint discovery problem. Simply hardcoding a server URL in the packaged application could be a viable solution for public internet-accessible applications, but we need to support multiple customers in their intranet, and each one typically requires multiple environments for the application (acceptance, production, etc.). Maintaining dozens of different packages of the AIR application to support all these customer environments clearly is not the solution. Neither we want to force thousands of different users to enter and maintain the correct server location in their local preferences.
    So, we thought to use a badge hosted in the back-end application to run the local AIR application: using the underlying API, we could activate the application specifying also the network location of the back-end services. We could also rely on the badge to install the application (and the AIR runtime if necessary)… however, application packaged as native installers cannot be installed, upgraded, or launched by the badge API (and we need to package ours as native to use native processes).
    We also noticed that multiple versions of an AIR application cannot be installed side-by-side in a client machine, and that the installation and upgrade of the application can be performed only when the local user has administrative rights on the machine (using standard or native packages), forcing us to rely on external software distribution systems in some customer scenarios (introducing additional complexities in the release cycle).
    At this point, in our opinion the standard deployment strategies of Adobe AIR applications are unfit for enterprise environments. In the enterprise world, many of the applications have migrated to a completely browser-based solution, while others enhanced their client layer to comply with the requirements, for example installing only a thin portion of the client code and allowing to connect to multiple server versions/environments with it (e.g. the SAP GUI universal client). Without smarter deployment and distribution tools, AIR applications currently are a step back compared to web applications in terms of manageability.
    So, we are trying to develop a solution to address these problems, with some concepts similar to JStart: install on the client machine a launcher application capable of being activated from a web page, dynamically locate, download and run the actual client bytecode, transparently enforce client software updates, and supporting multiple applications (and multiple versions of the same application). However, we are facing many technical problems due to internal architecture of AIR and we already spent a considerable amount of effort trying to find a solution. We are now thinking to return on the choice of AIR, going back to Flex.
    What is the position of Adobe on this argument? Is Adobe aware of these issues and are there any plans on this topic? Any advice?
    Thank you in advance

    Hi sinious,
    How could I clean up connection when browser is aborted or lost?
    below you can find the code snippet to check for air application and connection
    airSWFLoader = new Loader();
                                  loaderContext = new LoaderContext();
                                  loaderContext.applicationDomain = ApplicationDomain.currentDomain;
                                  airSWFLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.INIT, onInit);
                                  airSWFLoader.load(new URLRequest("http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/browserapi/air.swf"),loaderContext);
    function onInit(e:Event):void
                                  airSWF = e.target.content;
                                  switch(airSWF.getStatus().toString())
                                            case "available" : AirLoaderStatus = 1;
                                            break;
                                            case "unavailable" : AirLoaderStatus = 2;
                                            break;
                                            case "installed" : AirLoaderStatus = 3;
                                            break;
    private function getAppStatus():void
                                  clearInterval(intervalIdentifier);
                                  if(AirLoaderStatus == 0){intervalIdentifier = setInterval(getAppStatus,1000);return;}
                                  m_launchInstallBtn.visible = true;
                                  var statusInfo:String = airSWF.getStatus();
                                  airSWF.getApplicationVersion(m_installerFileName, m_pubID, versionDetectCallback);
    function versionDetectCallback(version:String):void
                                  if (version == null)
                                            trace("Not Installed");
                                            // Take appropriate actions. For instance, present the user with
                                            // an option to install the application.
                                  else
                                            m_isPluginsInstalled = true;
                                            // Take appropriate actions. For instance, enable the
                                            // user interface to launch the application.
    private function onlickMouse(event:MouseEvent):void
                                  m_text.text += "\nm_isPluginsInstalled:"+m_isPluginsInstalled+":::AirLoaderStatus:"+AirLoaderStatus;
                                  trace("\nm_isPluginsInstalled:"+m_isPluginsInstalled+":::AirLoaderStatus:" +AirLoaderStatus);
                                  switch(event.currentTarget)
                                            case m_launchInstallBtn:
                                                         if(AirLoaderStatus == 1)
           installAirsetup();
                                                      else
                                                                if(!m_isPluginsInstalled)
                                                                          airSWF.installApplication(m_url, m_runtimeVersion, m_argsToPass);
                                                                          airSWF.launchApplication(m_installerFileName, m_pubID, m_argsToPass);
                                                                else
                                                                          airSWF.launchApplication(m_installerFileName, m_pubID, m_argsToPass);
                                            break;
    in the above code snippet I pass localConnection for send and recieve as an argument in m_argsToPass.
    the connection names strarts with "_".
    In the air application I I split the event arguments like given below
    argsArray = event.arguments.toString().split(",");
    and then try to establish connection.
    Please suggest, how could I clean the connection on lost/ abort of browser, since then swf object embeded in browser also get lost.

  • Display image in standalone AIR application

    I have loaded images and like to display image in standalone AIR application. But I cannot get it work. The code as follows:
    private function ImageLoader(url:String):void
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
    var loader:Loader = new Loader();
    loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loaderComplete);
    loader.load(request);
    private function loaderComplete(event:Event):void
    var scaleFactor:Number = 1;
    var uic:UIComponent = new UIComponent();
    try
    var bmp:Bitmap = event.target.content as Bitmap;
    var bmd:BitmapData = bmp.bitmapData; //Bitmap(event.target.content).bitmapData;
    var scaledBMD:BitmapData = new BitmapData(400, 400);
    var matrix:Matrix = new Matrix();
    matrix.scale(scaleFactor, scaleFactor);
    scaledBMD.draw(bmd, matrix, null, null, null, true);
    uic.x = 40;
    uic.y = 40;
    uic.addChild(new Bitmap(scaledBMD));
    catch (errObject:Error)
    trace(errObject.message);

    Found answer by adding mx:Canvas and add
    iconCanvas.addChild(uic);
    after
    uic.addChild(new Bitmap(scaledBMD));
    <mx:Canvas id="iconCanvas" width="10" height="10" horizontalScrollPolicy="off" verticalScrollPolicy="off" x="0" y="0" clipContent="false"/>
    Is anyone create "Canvas" by using new Canvas and get it works? example:
    var canv:Canvas = new Canvas(...);

  • Blue screen of death while installing any Adobe Air application

    Whenever I try to install an Air application I get a  Blue Screen and then my system restarts.
    I cannot even take a screenshot  of it.
    This happens with every air application I try to install.
    I also searched for the same on Adobe forums and found the same problem being faced by someone else.
    His problem was resolved by uninstalling a software named "Folder Lock".
    I searched my hard disk for this software and found one, so I deleted  that software (shift+delete) and removed all it's traces from registry  too but that still doesn't solved the problem.
    I also tried disabling the antivirus software and then install the air application but this also didn't helped.
    I was able to install air applications earlier, but now I can't.
    Anybody having same sort of problem. One colleague of mine is also having the same problem.
    Please help me out.
    My system's config is as follows:
    Windows XP Home sp3
    Flash Builder 4, with SDK 4.1, 3.5 installed in it.
    Adobe Air v 2.5
    1.5 GB RAM
    1.66 MHz processor
    Thanks

    Hello chris,
    Thank you for taking out your time to solve my problem.
    I did all the steps mentioned in that link i.e. installed folder lock and uninstalled it from it's options only.
    But it didn't solve my problem.
    Here is the screenshot of the Blue Screen Of Death that I was presented while the application was being installed.
    The BSOD appeared while the application install progress is shown to the end user.
    I hope this will help you get more insight of the issue.
    Thanks

  • AIR application with Flex 4.5 will not render content. What gives?

    OK,
    So I've upgraded to Flash Builder 4.5 Premium and I am unable to develop desktop AIR applications with the 4.5 Flex SDK. I start by simply creating a brand new AIR application using the default SDK (Flex 4.5). I set the title property on WindowedApplication and include a simple Label component. The project compiles fine but when I run the application all I see is the adl window in the dock but that's it. If I modify the Main-app.xml file to set the visible attribute to true, I will get a small window but there is no content although the output window shows the application swf being loaded. Checking the release version of the Main-app.xml file shows the correct path location to the swf.
    Here is what I've tried so far:
    Install/reinstall Flash Builder, 4+ times
    Downloaded the trial installation twice
    Downloaded the SDK's for 3.6, 4.1 and 4.5.0. I then copied each SDK folder and merged the AIR 2.6 SDK with each copy. So now I have 6 SDK versions; one pristine and the other with the AIR 2.6 SDK merged. I then added each SDK individually and created an AIR desktop application for each. Each and every one works fine with the exception of the two 4.5 SDK's. They will not render content.
    I created a simple creation complete handler for the application that declares a simple variable and assigns a value to it. I then put a break point on the assignment and it never gets caught. More evidence that the swf isn't getting loaded.
    The computer I'm running on is a Mac Book Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.7. If I create a web project in each of the 6 SDK's, those will work just fine. What the heck is it with Flex 4.5 and the AIR 2.6 SDK on this machine? I have the AIR 2.6 runtime installed as well as a number of AIR applications that work just fine. I also tried my 4.5 test on my windows machine and that worked like a champ.
    I am completely out of ideas. Finding information has been difficult because everyone is all about mobile so searching for desktop issues is a losing battle. I realize this is a long email but I'm desperate for help. There must be someone out there that knows more about the low level interaction between Flex 4.5/AIR 2.6 and the OS.

    Well, I finally found the issue, a corrupted mm.cfg file in /Library/Application Support/Macromedia. I deleted the file and then adl ran just fine.

  • Opening a PDF in Acrobat via an AIR application

    Hey,
    I'm creating my first AIR application. The application needs to be able to launch Acrobat to view a PDF file.
    I have done a lot of searching and can't seem to find anything, could someone point me in the right direction?
    I read a response here:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/161570/how-do-i-launch-a-standalone-swf-from-within-an- abode-air-application
    That said:
    "The AIR-Runtime is (still) not able to launch external Applications, except Acrobat Reader for PDFs and the default Browser (you can let the browser display the swf)."
    Which led me to believe there was a way to do this.
    Thanks for your help.
    -Jason

    You can view PDF by opening the html window with iframe (width and height 100%) that points to the PDF file.
    I don't think its currently possible to start programs like Acrobat reader from AIR.
