Tracking student progress - No LMS

I am looking for a way to set up a main menu, each of which
will point to a
separate captivate swf file ... and when the student finishes
that module
and returns to the main menu, something on the main menu will
change
indicating that they finished that module.
So, for example, my main menu will point to modules 1, 2, 3
and 4. Once I
complete module 1, and return to the main menu, I will see a
check mark or
something next to module 1. If I leave and come back
tomorrow, I will still
see that I completed module 1.
And, if I can do that ... is there a way that I can require
the students to
complete the modules in order. So they can't even open module
2 until module
1 has been completed?
I'm used to working in Flash, where I could use the shared
objects, which
were stored on the student's computer, to track progress like
this. But this
was done using the Actionscript. And I don't know that
Captivate has
anything that compares to Actionscript.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Marge

Thanks. I was afraid that was going to be the answer.
I'm actually capable of doing this in Flash. I've got a Flash
shell of my
own that I developed for creating Flash based CBTs. But I
have a client who
wants a project done in Captivate, without an LMS. They have
heard that
Captivate is a "rapid" elearning tool, while Flash
development takes more
time.
Figuring out how to make Captivate do all the things that I
can already do
in Flash is taking the "rapid" out of this for me ... but I
figure that it's
a tool I should learn to use.
Thanks again.

  • Track student participation in iTunes U 2.0?

How do you track student participation in iTunes U 2.0? I've seen it in many stories about the update to iTunes U, but can't find anywhere that explains how.

    9to5mac.com
    Here’s what’s new for teachers:
    • Teachers can now create and update their courses using the iTunes U app on their iPad—getting started is fast, simple, and completely free
    • Provide every student a course outline, write posts, distribute assignments, upload class materials, easily track participating students, and much more
    MacRumors.com
"The camera can also be used to add photos and videos directly to course material and teachers can easily track student progress online."
    TechCrunch.com
For teachers in particular, it’s a big update, since it now allows them to set up their iPads from their devices. They can provide course outlines, create assignments, put out class materials and track student progress right from the app,

  • Track student learning and alignment against learning objectives

Is there a way to tag slides and assessment items in Captivate with learning objectives to be able to run some kind of report on how learners did on specific learning objectives?

Thank you for your quick reply, Seth. Do you know if it's possible to code different objects with the same learning objective? I assume every object needs a unique name. I would like to be able to associate all the instruction and assessments that relate to a specific learning objective with that objective code. Then, see if learners who watched the videos or completed the practice activities did better on the assessments, in addition to tracking student performance and mastery for specific learning objecitves. So, for example, I would want to see all the objects related to LO 2.14 and learner interactions.
Are you saying that I can facilitate that with Captivate, but then we would have to do some back-end customization on the LMS to make that data usable?

  • How come you cant sync walks to the nike plus app? People have to start somewhere when beginning a new exercise program and would like to track my progress just as much as runners do! Anyone know when they are gonna start letting this happen?

I only walk because of back surgery and knee issues and I really want to track my progress on Nike Plus to encourage me to do better and it only syncs runs. If someone knows if im doing something wrong other than going to site from my ipod and trying please let me know what i should be doing. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

  • Tutorial - how to track user progress in a Captivate movie

I wanted to start working with the new scripting capabilities
in Captivate 4 and thought a good first project would be to create
a set of variables and custom actions and execute the actions based
on the state of the variables. I wrote up a description/walkthrough
with screenshots and the source .cp is downloadable here:
    http://elearninglive.com/wordpress/2009/01/tracking-user-progress-in-captivate-4-using-var iables-and-actions/
Hopefully it proves useful to others!
A couple of things I mention at the bottom of the post in
regards to the new features in CP4:
    1. The actions window is amazingly slow once you add more
than a handful of actions. Perhaps it's just my machine? I have a
very fast machine with lots of ram, but perhaps it's something
    unique to my environment?
    2. You can't 'chain' actions. In other words, you cannot use
'execute multiple actions' setting to execute user-created actions,
just the built-in ones, which seems to me a pretty big limitation.
I had to work around it.
    3. As an add-on to #1 above - there is no way to
import/export code. Since the actions window is so slow it would be
ideal if we could just import code written in a text file, or
better yet, have a simple code editor (like the actions panel in
    Flash).
My 2 cents, fwtw, as a new CP4 user....

The biggest problem Authorware had was poor marketing. Second
    was it had no
way to natively create the eye-candy that Flash was wowing
    the world with.
Third, there was no attempt by Macromedia modernise
    Authorware with a lot of
very basic things that would have made a huge difference to
    everyone's
    perception of the tool
Fourth, Marketing kept telling people Authorware was dead,

I think it is clear to those of us that have had to move to
    Captivate from
Authorware that Captivate is *very* lacking in specific
    advanced features
and functionality that old hands are used to. As with any
    product, users are
bombarding adobe with requests that boost the power and scope
    of Captivate.
    It's a natural progression.

  • PS & ISUtilities (Tracking Project Progress)

In a single project (4 apartments) there are 100 premises (eg flats) 25 flats per Apartment. Each flat is considered as potential customer for Gas.
Project people complete the work in 3 stages.
Mile stone 1 =  Rs 500 collected per Business partner & Phase 1 is completed
Milestone 2 =   Rs 2000 is collected per Business Partner & Phase 2 is completed
Milestone 3 =   Rs 2500 is collected per Business Partner & Phase 3 is
                           completed by projects department.
Here the completion of work by Project department in SAP PS is interrelated to ISU a) Premise (eg flat)    b)Business Partner (Customer taking connection ) .
The project manager shall be able to find in every project comprising of 100 flats ,
The amount of work completed each flat( Customer wise) .
    Eg   Customer1          Milestone I & Milestone 2 completed
Customer 2         Milestone 1 completed , Amount received for  Milestone 2
but work has not been started by projects department .
Customer 3          Milestone 1,2 and Milestone 3 completed
Hope you would help me in mapping this process.

  • Need Advice-Adobe Connect and tracking student grades

I know that Adobe Connect can be used as a LMS, I need to know how to track grades for each student. Also each student has to pay for the class, How can I limit or control who logs in to the class. I dont want the link to be passed around for any one  to use. I,ll take all the help I can get. Thanks for any help or advice.

The question is, how do I "track each individuals progress through your training, and you will be able to pull reports that show that."  When I have the reports published to Adobe Connect, all I see are aggregate results.  I can find no way to get individual results.

  • Does Captivate allow a user to track your progress?

Does captivate have the ability to track a users progress? I am trying to create an e-Learning project and I would like to allow the user to stop and exit the course and return a later date at the part of the course they had left. Is this possible. Thanks in advance.
    Greg

Thanks for that, that was really helpful. Do you know of any downloadable examples using LMS to bookmark the users progess.
Also I saw this example on the internet, although this is done slightly differently I believe, by using a swf widget.

  • Anyone know how to track user progress in an HTML menu? (Captivate 3)

I've been trying to figure out how to do this for a few days, but I thought I would ask to make sure that I am not attempting to reinvent the wheel...
I have many individual Captivate 3 modules (final total will be around 50). These will be organized into an HTML menu that serves as a TOC. What I would like to do is include a graphic next to each module link in the menu (say, a circle, for example) that turns into a check graphic once the user passes the test for that module. This will allow users to keep track of which tutorials they've completed.
I see that Captivate 3 offers the ability to launch a JavaScript when a certain score is achieved on a quiz. I would like to somehow use that trigger to change the graphic in the HTML menu next to the corresponding menu item. Is this possible? I thought perhaps it might be done with a cookie. There are gaps in what I know about JavaScript, however, so I can't quite picture the flow of events.
We're trying to make this work so that the tutorials can run from a CD or a Web server. I do not have access to the hosting server, and I am finding this somewhat limiting, since you'd normally do this with a session id. There is also no LMS, and the progress information is for the users' benefit alone.
Any ideas? Or is this impossible?

    Hi there
Before you begin trying to concoct an elaborate solution, perhaps you might review Jesse Warden's Captivate Player?
Click here to view his site where you may download it
However, in grabbing that link and thinking about your situation, I'm thinking that may not work because it checks off the Captivate movie when it has been selected. You want the check to appear only after a certain score has been reached.
So I'm thinking you would do this using JavaScript and a form. The form element would be the check box. The trick here (as you are probably already aware) is to pass the variable data between pages.
Thinking out loud here: I'm wondering if you would gain anything by using a Frameset?
Wishing I had a neat solution to toss out for you. Unfortunately I don't. Perhaps someone else does! Hope they share it if they do!
    Cheers... Rick

  • LSO: Tracking Course progress for SCORM Courses

How does SAP track progress/placeholders for SCORM-enabled published Captivate projects, that is, if a learner stops playing content part way through, is the learner placed back where they left off when they return?

    Hi Harshal,
I'm not a Captivate super-user nor a content expert, but it's always important to ensure that the publishing settings are refined to pass the data that is important to the customer (it sounds like you need 'location' in this instance) and that the settings align with the instructional intent of the content.  In other words, help them determine what data they need for functionality and reporting and publish the content to reflect that - not less and also not more, to ensure the optimal amount of data is passed to the LMS.
    Good luck,
    Sharon

  • Tracking Pass/Fail on LMS

I am trying to track pass/fail on a Captivate project and I
am having difficulties with the LMS. It is tracking as completed
after just the first slide, before even taking the quiz. I have my
quiz settings set to report "Quiz results only", Pass/Fail, Report
to LMS as Percent, Reporting level is "Report Score", the Pass/Fail
    options are set to 75%.
NOTE: I have allowed the user 2 attempts to pass. Could this
    be what's giving me trouble?

Look at the Project > Advanced Interaction panel and see
    if you have
score values setup throughout your lesson as you should.
It sounds like perhaps you have a low number of scored
    interactions and
that 75% is being met as soon as they answer the first
    question
correctly? Compare the Advanced Interaction results to your
    Quiz

  • Tracking User Progress for Multi Module Movie

I am working with Isaac Tabe's article on creating a menu slide which updates a user progress, yes I know I could use the TOC and aggregator functions but that's not what I am looking for. In his scripting it runs on slide enter. My assumption is that this is because you will have all your different "modules" on other slides which would trigger the script to run when they jumped back.
My question is this... Does anyone know if/or how the script can be set to run the check for completion if I am only calling an external file (Word and Excel in this case) from the module button, rather than jumping to a different slide? I see no way of triggering the script when the button is clicked for that madule in the multi user actions. The only solution I could come up with was to jump to a slide in every case, and then have the slide I am going to open the file on slide enter.
    Thanks for your input everyone!

Can't help much with Captivate settings but.. best thing to start with is to look at the full tracking information in Moodle that is attached to a particular user that has completed the SCORM. Does it look like anything there might be showing that sort of information?
in Moodle 2.6 (releases Nov 2013) we added a new objectives report which displays cmi.objectives data in a nice clear manner - if your SCORM package is reporting on objectives that might help.

  • Tracking user changes in LMS 4.1

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to track and or log the changes that users make in in LMS 4.1. For an example if someone changed a configuration I want that being logged. I want to see what the person changed, when it's changed and who changed it.
Does anyone know how to do that?

This is done by default.  You can go back through the audit logs in LMS to see what people are doing within the platform.  See the list of reports under Reports > Audit.  You'll probably want Reports > Audit > Inventory and Config.

  • Adobe Captivate 4 - Tracking AICC to the LMS issue

    Hi,
I created a Captivate 4 Quiz; I published the Quiz with the AICC reporting option and as a result Captivate 4 created the files shown below:
I hosted all these files in the same server, same folder, and same domain where the Isoph Blue (Learn Something) LMS is installed. I also published the course from the LMS and it seems to be OK.
When participants login and launch the course from the LMS the course works very well. All questions are shown, correct and incorrect answers are also shown at the end. The quiz window is closed at the end without problem.
The issue is that there is not notification to the LMS of course completion, the Icon (located on the right of the image shown below) that tells the participant course is completed does not change the status. It does not change from Launch to Print Certificate status.
The Captivate is not tracking correctly course completion to the LMS. So, we can not track user activity neither print the certificate at the end of the course.
Can you please help me troubleshoot this issue?
What can I do to make this course completion notification works with the LMS?
I can provide more information, files and details on how I created the course, etc.
Note: Isoph Blue is AICC compatible, there are other (*.aspx) courses that are tracked via AICC and they are tracked correctly, the issue is only with Captivate 4. We also have Captivate 3.

    Hi there
I certainly cannot claim to be any sort of expert on the H.264 format, but Captivate 4 only produces SWF, EXE and AVI formats. So you are correct in that you would need to convert from either the SWF or AVI format to an H.264 format. From what I understand, AVI and MP4 are the two file extensions you may find H.264 file format used. So I suppose it's possible to say that if you have a CODEC (Compressor/Decompressor) installed for H.264, Captivate could spit out an AVI encoded in H.264 format.
More information on H.264 at the links below:
