Track student learning and alignment against learning objectives

Is there a way to tag slides and assessment items in Captivate with learning objectives to be able to run some kind of report on how learners did on specific learning objectives?

Thank you for your quick reply, Seth. Do you know if it's possible to code different objects with the same learning objective? I assume every object needs a unique name. I would like to be able to associate all the instruction and assessments that relate to a specific learning objective with that objective code. Then, see if learners who watched the videos or completed the practice activities did better on the assessments, in addition to tracking student performance and mastery for specific learning objecitves. So, for example, I would want to see all the objects related to LO 2.14 and learner interactions.
Are you saying that I can facilitate that with Captivate, but then we would have to do some back-end customization on the LMS to make that data usable?

  • Limit to number of tests and learning objects in a Content folder in OLM

    All,
    Before I ask my question I want to preference a few things:
    1. My company has been using OLM for approximately 2 years.
    2. For the most part we use OLM to track compliance, meaning that we use Online tests to track compliance to specific company standard operating procedures. Which as you can imagine is a lot of documents.
    So, with this is mind. We setup a course, offiering (with associated test) and class to determine if an employee has completed reviewing the changes to a document, as each document revises.
    Now to my question...
    Today we noticed that some of the tests for this compliance process in OLM were not being displayed. All of the tests exist in their own folder for this process. Note: There is a single content folder on the content tab of OLM for all of these tests. And when we check the count from the front end we see that there are 1001 displayed from the dministrator front end of OLM.
    However, some of these are not listed here. Even eif you click next all the way to item (test) number 1001.
    So, Is there a limit to the number of test or learning objects that can exist in a content folder in OLM?
    If so what is this limit? Is it 1000? 1001?
    My understanding is that you cannot move a test in the content hierarchy, if it is bound to a folder or even a parent learning oject it forever stays there. And you cannot delete it once it has attempts against it.
    So where does this leave us... We know that some of the tests in this content folder are missing because our catalog has less items in the same associated folder. In other words we have better organization in the catalog (for courses, offering and classess, because each course has its own folder. So if we go to a known missing Offering we can determine the learning object / test associated with it. If we copy the name of this test and search for it on the Content tab it is in fact found.
    So we know it is there and we know that people have competed it as a result of the status of the enrollment, yet we cannot go to it on the Content tab.
    This leaves me baffled.
    Is there any way that we can get to these from the Administrator Front end? Can we move them on the back end?
    Any help anyone can provide is sincerely appreciated. I am doing a deep dive with my IT staff on this next week to come to some resolution on this, because we have had to halt our process until we have a resolution.

    I believe you should be able to personalize the number of rows displayed to overcome the pre-defined limit.

    NEW FEATURE IN OLM - Provide option to launch a learning object in a new window from the player
    Background:
    When content is launched from Oracle Learning Management, it is presented within the Oracle Learning Management player frameset. If the content is not on the same server as Oracle Learning Management, this can cause issues with content that is not "frame-friendly". In order to work around this issue in the past, customers either needed to modify their content to be frame-friendly, or create a "splash" page to load in the Oracle Learning Management player, which in turn would open a new window displaying the content. This also caused integration compatibility issues with Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g Web Conferencing.
    Feature:
    This new feature eliminates the need to utilize a splash page or modify content that is not frame-friendly, as it allows you to safely open the content in a separate window from the Oracle Learning Management player, while maintaining all tracking capabilities.
    The new Open in New Window check box is provided on the learning object properties page.
    When the learner launches a learning object where this check box is checked, the player opens as normal and presents a "splash" page with some instructional text. This splash page then opens a new window for the content.
    The splash page also checks for the presence of a pop-up blocker that may block the new window from opening. If this occurs, the learner receives an alert indicating that a pop-up blocker has prevented the content window from opening.
    Action/Notes:
    By default, the Open in New Window check box is NOT selected for any learning object, whether created before or after the patch is applied. Therefore, if you do not plan to use this feature, no action is necessary.
    For those customers who do want to take advantage of this feature, you must edit your learning objects individually and select the Open in New Window check box on the learning object properties page.
    This new feature is independent of the Open in New Window check box in the player preferences section of the offering properties page, which opens the player in a separate window. If both check boxes are selected, the Oracle Learning Management player opens in a separate window, then the content opens in another separate window.

    Is it possible to move an existing Learning Object or Test into a new Learning Object thus creating a nested structure? From the thread "OLM - Merging Multiple Learning Objects into One" posted in July 2010, it sounds possible but I don't know how.

    Hi Alwyn,
    You cannot move an existing Learning Object to create a nested structure, but you can create a parent Learning Object and add new child Learning Objects, Tests, and/or Surveys underneath it (or copy existing Learning Objects, Tests, and/or Surveys underneath it).
    To create everything from scratch:
    - Create a top-level Learning Object and leave the starting URL blank
    - Select the radio button next to the Learning Object that you just created and create a new Learning Object
    - Set the tracking type and starting URL for your child Learning Object as appropriate for the content you're pointing to
    To add another child Learning Object or test, select the radio button next to the top-level Learning Object and repeat the same steps until you have all of the nested Learning Objects / Tests / Surveys that you'll need.
    The steps are pretty much the same for copying existing Learning Objects:
    - Create the parent Learning Object
    - Highlight the radio button next to the Learning Object you wish to copy
    - Click the Copy button
    - Select the radio button of the parent Learning Object you created in step 1 and click Apply
    - Update the copied Learning Object so that the title doesn't say (copy) at the end
    A parent will be marked completed when all of its children are complete. You map the Offering to the parent Learning Object.

  • Learning Objectives

    Hi,
    I am working on LSO 604 version.I am testing the Learning objectives functionality. I have created two learning nets each having the same learning object. In the first learning net, I attached a learning objective to the learning object and checked the attainable flag. In the second Learning net, I did the same for the learning object except that I didnt check the attainable flag.
    I attached these leraning nets to new courses - course A and Course B. I as a participant completed course A. I was able to see the learing objective against my employee number in the table LSOTPTEBO_C. Now when I play course B, the content player takes me again through all the learning objects. I expected the content player to skip the learning object which has already got the objective attached to it.
    As per the SAP documentation, I should not be getting the repetitive contents again when I go into another course.

    Hi Muralidaran,
    First you should have checked the learning objective as success criteria when you define a course type,in lso_pvd0.
    Second when you have achieved the objective which course A and course B has, then when you book the course,before starting the course i hope you should get 100% in the success criteria, you  dont have to go through the course,
    Third is check the Table of contents in the content player where all the nodes have been marked ticked, since you have achieved the learning objective.
    When you go through the course content player will still take you through the course as a review, but the actual will be reflected in learning objective Success % in the learning Portal.
    I hope the above details answer your problem.

    I'd Just like to say thankyou to everybody for taking a look at my post even if you dont reply! and Double thankyou to those that do reply!
    Im working in classes something Ive never done before!
    Currently the class creates a small bird object that moves in both X and y and when the character hits it its destroyed, makes the character jump and doubles the score.(plus some other junk!)
    What I want is: when my character hits this object I want him to land on it like a platform and stay on it while it moves! Im changing it from a bird to a cloud!
    I have posted the full class below but I know( i think i do) that the only really important part I need to change is this:

    Trying to narrow the hitest to the top of the platform
    stop the player from falling any further
    then set the players X and Y to follow that of the platform object untill I jump off it

    To achieve this effect, you would have to make the players x and y the same as the birds on the hit. Something like this: (PS i have not read your code, its not formatted in a way easy to read, you can email itto me if you like for me to do a proper analysis I will PM you my email) but anyways if(playerInstance.hitTestObject(birdInstance)){     player.x = bird.x;     player.y = bird.y;}  this is not the most effective or accurate, but like i said i have not read your code. A bitmap hit test will be more accurate cycling the birds through a array to decide which one is hit aswell.

  • Captivate Learning Objects Cause LMS to Close

    I have multiple learning objects that were created in Captivate 4. The e-learning course was then compiled in Lectora. The course plays perfectly when exported as "HTML Only" and loaded on a web-server. However, when the course is exported as SCORM 1.2 and loaded into an LMS, the course closes prematurely after the AS2 pre-loader. I did not publish the SWFs from Captivate with SCORM communication because they are being used as learning objects in Lectora. Is it necessary for the SWFs to also be publish as SCORM compliant? Any other factors that could be causing the interactions to close the LMS session?

    Yes, I agree that the variables that need to be considered in
    selecting an LMS for an organisation are considerable in number.
    The conventional approach is to begin with the needs of the
    organisation and set these against LMS products that vendors offer
    aided by independent evaluation reports from the likes of Brandon
    Hall, Bersin Associates etc; you gather the information, do a
    matrix type or other analysis, do try outs of a short list and then
    presto out comes decision: the magic package that appears to meet
    all needs you have identified. Just then cost and the notoriously
    rapid obsolescence of LMS products begin to gnaw.
    No thanks! I have decided to turn the conventional approach
    upside down for technical and business reasons.
    And thanks for the Moodle advice. Good system; I have visited
    and keep an eye on developments there. However, I see Moodle as a
    platform that is largely oriented towards the educational sector.
    Nothing wrong with that, but my focus is on other sectors.

    We are on 11.5.10, as user have been enrolled sucessfully in the class. However, whe he try to play learning object then facing an error as mentioned.
    "You cannot launch this learning object. You have not met the prerequisites."

         When you go to Learning Administrator responsibility > Catalog Administration > Content and select your learning object. There will be a link for player prerequisites in the top left column. Click on it and check whether any prerequisites is defined for the learning object.

  • OLM - Merging Multiple Learning Objects into One

    Does anyone have experience or success merging multiple OLM learning objects into one? I think that we are supposed to be able to do this by exporting a content folder that contains all the learning objects that we want to merge into one CBT. The export works for me, and the learning object plays, but the content is not complete or combined. I noticed that the new content contains files called metadata(0).xml and metadata(1).xml representing the two learning objects that I tried to merge into one. I wonder if there's something I'm supposed to do with these files. Has anyone been successful in merging content?

    Content can be combined into a course structure like:
    Course Learning Object
    -- Topic 1 learning object
    -- Topic 2 learning object
    By creating a parent "course" learning object and moving the individual objects underneath it. The offering is then tied to that course learning object, so that when a user enrolls, in order to complete it the user navigates through both objects.
    You cannot combine all the pages from separate objects into a single learning object as the pages themselves have no knowledge of each other.
    Does that make sense?

    It sounds like you'll need to log in as an Oracle Learning Management Administrator and create Enrollment Statuses for each of the default types (Requested, Waitlisted, Placed, Completed, Cancelled, and Pending Signature or Evaluation). If you've just upgraded to 12.1.3, it's most likely you'll need the Pending Signature or Evaluation status added.

    Hi All,
    We managed to find a solution for this.It is like this,the client which we were connecting to is a customizing client.
    That is why Authoring environment,was not able to update Learning Objectives in R3 as it has to create a request for evry update.
    So we deactivated  Transport by modifying the Table  T77S0,I changed change the value for GSVAL to "X" whereGRPID=TRSP and SEMID=CORR
    which means No Transport.
    Now every thing works fine.

  • Learn Objective-C after learning C plus plus

    Hi,
    I’m currently taking a C++ class but in the future I would like to learn Objective-C since I’m more interested on iOS development and I’m taking C++ only because is what the college uses.
    I was looking at some online tutorials about Objective-C and I’m a little disappointed because I was hoping to see similarities between C++ and Objective-C since both languages come from C.  I guess my confusion started when I tried to use the online compiler called idleone (www.idleone.com) to practice a few things I learned reading “Programming in Objective C 3rd Edition” but to my surprise the compiler doesn’t recognize a lot of the code ( NSLog etc…) and cannot compile my code. Let clarify that I only use this online compiler when I’m away from my computer, I do use Xcode.
    - Why is Objective-C 2.0 not compatible with other compilers?
    - Is Objective-C 2.0 an Apple version of Objective-C and will only compile using Xcode?
    - Is Objective-C different from Objective-C 2.0, how many different versions of Objective-C exist?
    - How hard would it be to get the basics on Objective-C after learning a little C++?
    - Are there any similarities between C++ and Objective-C?
    Can someone be so kind and  help me to unsderstand the difference between these two languages and maybe the difference between Objective-C and Objective-C 2.0?
    Sorry if my questions don’t make too much sense but as I said I’m confused.

    You appear to have exhausted your allocation of two helpful stars. You can still award someone the full 10-point "solved" jackpot
    Is there anything in particular that you still think could be answered? Learning to program is very much a personal experience. No one else can say how much you can or will learn using any method. In general, you learn by doing. Those parts of Objective-C that you need to use for your programs you will learn well. Other parts that you never use will continue to be a mystery. The basics of memory management, error handling, bindings, key/value observing, etc. will be the same. Just the details are different.
    Anything you learn in your C++ class will likely be basic stuff and easily applicable to Cocoa. You probably won't get much into the details of template programming. That knowledge won't help you in Cocoa. It won't even help you in C++. I've been using C++ on and off since 1995. I used to be a big fan of the language but finally decided that the enormous effort required to understand templates just wasn't worth it. I could do the same thing far more easily in C, Objective-C, or Perl. So why punish myself? It was an enjoyable challenge getting C++ templates to work properly, but it sure wasn't doing anything for the bottom line - a very low return on intellectual investment.

  • Define a set duration for a learning object for each delegate

    I am deploying some elearning content through OLM. This will be part of an induction course, and I want the actual class available for 3 months for each learner. However, what I dont want to do is create a new class for each learner. Is there a way I can make the learning object available for three months for each new enrolment without having to create a defined start and end date for each class.
    In essence I have a class that I want to be open ended but once someone enrolls they get 3 months to complete. Apologies if I have missed something obviios.

    I can't think of a way to make the class available to a learner for just 3 months.
    To accomplish what you're trying to do, we have created a Descriptive Flex Field at the Class/Enrollment level called "Completion Due Date."
    We have also set up a process that runs every Monday to identify anyone who was a new hire in the past week and enroll them in certain classes, with a completion due date assigned of sysdate + some # of days.
    So you could establish a similar process and say the due date is 90 days from sysdate.
    We have also established a reminder email via alert that is generated 7 days before the completion due date.
    You can accomplish something similar with a Learning Path, but we can't auto-enroll learners in a Learning Path via API (although I've received conflicting information about the ability to do this), and we value the ability to enroll people directly, rather their having to search for the class or learning path.
    A certification may be able to do what you want too, but conceptually and functionally I don't know if it's fit for what it sounds like you want to do.
