Trackpad & Mouse connection issue

Lately my trackpad (and my wife's mouse) become erratic and unresponsive. If i turn the pad off and then back on, that helps. it happens intermittently but i am wondering if this is a bluetooth issue. This happens at our work, but not at home and i have the same iMac (yosemite) set up and an apple keyboard and trackpad. (and it's not the batteries)
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

If the problem is only at one location, I would think that there is some sort of interference (cordless phones, etc).

  • Magic Mouse connectivity issues

My magic mouse has been losing its connection lately. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina display with the latest version of Yosemite. Could it be that the mouse is nearing the end of its life? I bought this mouse when the magic mouse first came out maybe 5 years ago. Any suggestions?

I've followed several threads and agree with Seventy One, the problem is mechanical and simple to solve.  Cleaning the terminals is sensible, but I also did this which has made my mouse connection robust.
    My Solution:
I took a thick rubber band cut it to about 1 inch in length.  I placed it across the negative end of the batteries between the batteries and the compartment lid (not between the batteries and the terminals as that would cause a different problem).  When I close the lid, without forcing it, the rubber band holds the batteries firmly in place.  The batteries last longer and there is no drop in connection.  You might need to experiment a little with the thickness of the rubber band.
I can now lift the mouse, tap it on the mouse pad, turn it upside down and use it on the ceiling, although I do need a ladder and it does make my arm go to sleep after a while.
I've read about resetting parts of the operating system, but I really don't like doing that because of the law of unexpected consequences.
The words "glue" and "precision piece of electronic equipment", should not usually be used in the same sentence and are not natural companions, but in this case, now that I have the right thickness and position, I'll glue the band or a similar piece of foam to the inside of the compartment lid.  I expect a future Magic Mouse may have this built in as it is such a common issue.

  • Magic Mouse connectivity issue

Magic Mouse after power on button is switched on, no light indication at all. Frequent connection timed out before it becomes totally unusuable. I bought the Magic Mouse only for 7 months and had changed the mouse once. I had also changed the batteries to alkaline ones but didnt help reviving the mouse. Is this a hardware quality issue or setup issue? please advise.

    HellO:
No light at all seems to indicate a faulty mouse.  I suggest you contact Applecare (or an Apple store) for a warranty replacement.

  • Software based trackpad/mouse button issue

I have been experiencing a recurring issue with my the trackpad on my macbook when trying to select the "Close" icon in the tops of windows, and also when pressing confirm/ok buttons within system setting changes.
Basically when trying to click on the icon with either a tap on the trackpad of by using the mouse button, the "click" will not register. I can click and select other windows and icons on the screen, just not the close or confirm buttons. The only to rectify this is to click into another window, and then come back into the one that I wish to interact with.
Has anyone had the same issue and knows of a fix?

I am experiencing the same thing.
It seems what is needing to happen is for the 'mouse's state' to be emptied or resetted when onRelease or onReleaseOutside of an osx app button.
This is so annoying as it happens with some macs (like mine) and not others. In my case, I click on the red X and it does nothing. I click again and it minimizes. So bloody annoying.
I am using the keyboard more frequently now to close my apps, but I shouldn't have to. It's ridiculous.
Also it's happening with minimized items in the dock.
If I have a series of minimized items and I click on them in a row to restore them all, it will only restore the first one (or every other one) I click on and then I have to refresh my 'mouse state' by clicking on something else and then going back to the dock to restore (and I loop this procedure).
I tried this on the mac pros in the store, and it doesn't seem to be an issue.

  • Ultimate solution to Magic Mouse connection issue?

I have found that many users of Magic Mouse are experiencing frequent connection dropouts. I am another user who has been having trouble with this but unable to find a permanent solution.
I know that whenever this happens, usually by switching off the bluetooth on the computer and switching it back on would make it work again, but sometimes when this problem gets intensified, within a minute after I switch back on the bluetooth and reconnect the mouse,  the mouse would appear laggy again (and disconnect too at times).
I would like to know if there is a permanent solution to this problem.

I would add the Magic Mouse to bluetooth favorites. I use Snow Leopard but I think the process is the same for Leopard.
Go to System Preferences > Bluetooth > Highlight the Mouse on the left > click the gear icon below the list > check "show more information" if not already checked. > return to the gear icon and select "add to favorites".
That should help with a speedy reconnect.

  • Mighty Mouse connection issues

For the first few months I had the Mighty Mouse, it worked perfectly, no problems. But lately it has been disconnecting at random times. I can't figure out what the problem is. The batteries are OK, and I've moved my cell phone off my desk (though it didn't affect the connection before), but I'm still getting connection errors throughout the day. And they are getting to be more frequent. Is anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it? It's driving me crazy!

If it has been a few months since you last changed the batteries in the Magic Mouse, you might try replacing them. The info provided via the computer (either in the B;uetooth menu, prefs, or Dashboard) re the mouse battery state is notoriously incorrect.
Other folk have noted that over time the batteries may loosen up in the box; apparently the cover can warp a bit, allowing that to happen. Suggested solution is to place a thin piece of cardboard between the batteries and their cover.

  • Help with a mouse connection issue.

I'm having trouble with my toshiba optical mouse with blue tooth.. I've been trying to get ahold of tech support, but all they do is tell me to go online, where there's absolutely nothing helpful.  I've tried online, I've tried tech support (and from other posts I viewed, I see I'm not alone with my view of tech support), and all I want to do is get my mouse reconnected to my computer.. It lost it's connection not too long ago, and I am unable to get it to reconnect.
If anyone knows where I could go to get actual helpfull information on the subject, it would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

Which computer? Which Windows? Which model bluetooth optical mouse?

  • Mouse & trackpad lose connectivity

The mouse & trackpad lose connectivity whilst in use for no apparent reason.
Installed fresh batteries in each device with no effect & connection drops out whilst using.
Have both devices turned on/operating at same time.

Further to above action , checked with iStudio who advised not to have other devices, such as iPhone or iPad nearby as can cause interference.
    Did following:
    - moved phone & iPad away
    - uninstalled mouse & reinstalled
Seems to have improved operation though the problem still occurs.
Will put Mouse in for service check as still under warranty.

  • Problems after the last Apple Security Update with trackpad/mouse tapping/clicking

    Dear All,
I do have a MacBook Pro 15 (early 2008), Mac OS X (10.6.8). The logic board was replaced a couple of years ago under Apple warranty (distorted video problem). I am planning to repalce it after the next apple update on the macbook pro line. Before someone asks, I am using Snow Leopard because I still have some programs that needs Rosetta. I did apply the last security update and after I did shutdown and restarted the computer last night, the trackpad/mouse (mighty mouse, usb mouse) is not working properly. I just cannot do the left click or tap on the trackpad. The mighty mouse works perfectly, except the clicking. The same for the trackpad (tapping). I manage to open a pdf file with some keyboard shortcuts. I can use the mouse/trackpad to scroll and zoom in/out the document. I can use the trackpad to rotate the document, etc. Pressing on the might Just can´t tap/clock on the document to select or open it.
I alread did the obvious thing: command-alt PR, start in safe mode, unplug the power/battery for a few minutes...
Did you have a similar problem with the last security update. Do you have any suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Carlos

I have resolved the issue! As I mentioned, I am using a Logitech cordless optical mouse. I connected up my Apple keyboard & mouse and disconnected the Logitech. The problem no longer occurred with the Apple mouse.
I removed the batteries from the Logitech mouse and disconnected the USB receiver. Restarted the computer, reconnected the Logitech setup, disconnected the Apple stuff, and now it is working.

  • Exposé activates randomly - not trackpad, mouse, or simple preference

    Hi all,
I'm experiencing an interesting glitch with exposé triggering randomly. During normal Macbook use, the expose window randomly pops up, may "jitter", and eventually goes away. During the glitch, I can click the applications in the expose window, which will bring up the app for a moment, but usually expose comes right back (creating a temporary zoom in / zoom out jitter from the back-and-forth). This can occur for a few seconds before normal operations resume.
I've done a fairly thorough search of the forums and the almighty interwebs with Google, but no luck yet with any solutions. Help would be super appreciated since I'd prefer not to do a clean install! Here are some important details about my system and the troubleshooting I've already done:
My system Macbook (from 2009) is running OS 10.6.8. Everything is up-to-date to the best of my knowledge.
As a first obvious step, I have disabled all gestures from the expose and trackpad preferences. Right now, only F3, which is hardwired to expose, should trigger it (see this post).
Expose works normally when I hit F3
I have tried using a USB mouse, but the problem still occurs (with the "ignore trackpad when mouse connected" option enabled).
The glitch can occur seemingly anytime. I can be typing or using the trackpad or even not touching the computer at all (e.g., watching a video on Netflix).
There does not appear to be any certain program or activity which triggers the glitch. Most of my computer use involves web surfing, e-mails, writing documents, and other light use.
No extra applications are starting up with login (i.e., I double-checked the relevant page on my user preferences, like this).
And for reference, here are two more threads of interest:
One post recommended disabling a feature in Google Drive, but I do not have Google Drive desktop installed.
Here is a thread which sounds very similar to my problem, but the only response directs the user to post in the hardware forum. I couldn't find another thread from the original poster though.
I've been struggling with this for awhile now and it can be very frustrating. Any help is MUCH appreciated! I've tried to do my homework, but I'm at a dead end. Please let me know if I can provide more information or conduct any experiments. And many apologies if I've missed anything.
    Thanks so much!
    -Joanna

Also, I don't believe this is a "cursor jump" issue. I'm working on get a short video recording of the gltich, but it can be tricky to capture it.

  • Trackpad loses connection, can't reconnect if I have speakable items on.

When my trackpad is working, and I enable speakable items, the trackpad connection is dropped. I can't reconnect.
Soon as I disable speakable items, the trackpad can be reconnected.
I've done this several times, and results are the same.
I also have a wireless mouse and keyboard connected - they stay connected, no issues. Just the trackpad loses connection.
Anyone know why this may be?
I like having the trackpad connected, and use speakable items, because I'm having issues with my fingers.

The cables are the same.  Your computers USB may not be supplying enough power to charge the iPad. Read all about charging here:
    iPad: Charging the Battery, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4060
As to why your Mac doesn't see the iPad, do, you have at least Mac OS X 10.5.8?  That's the minimum required.
If your Mac's OS is OK, look at this:  iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591

  • Microsoft wireless mobile mouse 4000 issue

My wife has a 4-year old MacBook Pro running 10.6 (can't get her to change...).  We recently had to replace her MS Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000--we've both used these for years.  We're having an issue with hers...the left button won't go "back" in Safari (or any other program for that matter) and I've tried everything, including assigning the proper keystroke to the button, etc.  When I look at her Microsoft Mouse preference panel, it does not show the correct mouse, having an extra button.  I've downloaded the latest version of their intellimouse software and it doesn't matter.  When I try to get mouse info from the preference panel it tells me it can't see a mouse connected.  Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Did you replace the USB receiver as well? The receiver needs to be paired with the new mouse.

  • Built in Airport Extreme location:  Where is it?  Connection issues

I have an iMac G5, the one prior to the iSight release with the built in Airport Extreme. I am having wireless connection issues where I either have an incredibly low signal or no connection at all. I also have an ibook G4 that has full signal strength when placed next to the imac. I have been told the antenna may be loose on the Airport card but alas when I opened the computer, there was no Airport Card to be found. I was e-mailed a diagram of the location of the Airport card and realized it was for the prior version of the imac that came with the Airport as an option. i was informed Airport is "built in". So does this mean there is no antenna that could inadvertently be knocked out? I scoured this forum for solutions and found a handful of people with identical issues but no solution. Just wondering if anyone has an answer to this problem as I am starting to lose hope. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Warren, you have what is referred to as Rev B or ALS (Ambient Light Sensor) Imac and yes the Airport Extreme is integrated on the system board and there is no antenna connection like on the Rev. A Imac. One of the first things to check is in System Preferences => Network => Network Port Configurations make sure Airport is at the top of the list, if not then drag it to the top. Another thing people have found out is Bluetooth devices can cause interferance, I can't comment with this as I don't have any Bluetooth but if you do you could try a wired keyboard and mouse and turn off Bluetooth in System Preferences to see if it changes. Good luck and post back with results, Bob :~))

  • Bluetooth connectivity issues after updating to OS X 10.10.3

I have been experiencing issues with bluetooth mouse connectivity (apple magic mouse) after updating OS X to 10.10.3. My Macbook Retina 15" pro (early 2013) keeps losing connection with the mouse. Switching the mouse on/off helps in re- establishing connection between the mouse and the laptop for a few seconds. I was under the impression that this update of Yosemite was intended to rectify bluetooth and wifi connectivity issues. Any suggestions/advice welcome.
