Transaction Management using JDBC service

In Adobe Livecycle 8.2 JDBC service do not provide exception handling.
How to start trasaction from client Java application running on another machine and pass it to customised process having JDBC service
Should transaction be started on client machine using JNDI lookup of Transaction manager of Livecycle application server
How to rollback transaction when Java application get error from EJB end point.

Hello Amit!
It is true that LiveCycle 8.2's JDBC service has on built-in exception handling.  This has been remedied in 9.0 as there are now several exception types that can be handled.
If I understand correctly, your trouble comes with the lack of transaction management around the existing JDBC service within LiveCycle.  To this I can only recommend that any SQL statements needing to be run with transaction management be done so within an executeScript service.  I have, on many, many occasions, utilized this service to write some custom code using the Statement and/or PreparedStatement classes to handle any database interactions.
In addition to the above, it seems as though you would like to leverage the JNDI lookup capability of LiveCycle's JDBC service so you can specify a data source name as opposed to having to establish your own connection.  This too can be handled within the executeScript service via custom code.  As an example, the following code, when dropped in an executeScript service, will establish a connection to an Oracle database via JNDI lookup:
import oracle.sql.*;
import java.sql.Connection;
import java.sql.PreparedStatement;
import javax.naming.InitialContext;
import org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.WrappedConnection;
import oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection;
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
String sDataSource = "YOUR DATA SOURCE NAME HERE";
Connection conn = ((DataSource)ctx.lookup(sDataSource)).getConnection();
org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.WrappedConnection oWConn = (WrappedConnection) conn;
OracleConnection oConn = oWConn.getUnderlyingConnection();
From that point forward, you can simply leverage the PreparedStatement and/or Statement classes for any statements.
Please do let me know if you have any questions.

  • Database transaction management in Web services

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle8i and firing some database queries from my web services. I want to do the transaction management for the same i.e. When one of the queries fail, i want to rollback. But when i write my own transaction management, it gives me an error :
    java.sql.SQLException: Cannot call Connection.commit in distributed transaction.Transaction Manager will commit the resource manager when the distributed transaction is committed.
    Can anyone please help me out as to how to perform the database transaction management in web services.
    Thanking in advance.
    Prashant

    Unfortunately to manage transactions over web services there is no viable solution available in market. All implementations come with restrictions e.g. Metro works with only EJBs on Glassfish, JBossTS works on JBoss but not with JAX-WS, Atomikos supports only Axis as of now.
    1. See explanation above.
    2. Yes, it can be but conditions mentioned above are applied :-)

    4. Unfortunately as of now I do not see an easy way to this problem.

  • How many transaction key used for Service PO

    Hi,
    Please let me know, how many transaction key used for Service PO...
    In OBYC, we have maintained GBB & WRX Transaction key's for Service PO, Is there any other Transaction key skip???
    Please guide...

    Hi,
    GBB is used for Offsetting entry for inventory posting but for Service procurement WRX Transaction key is used for GR/IR clearing-service.
    NOTE: You may use WRX with new account modifier ZZZ  to triggers GR/IR clearing-service only for service procurement where you need to post all separate GR/IR clearing- material , GR/IR clearing-asset and GR/IR clearing-service and can done with user exit.
    #But in special case GBB can be used with VBR key or copy of VBR as ZBR for default G/L account foe service PO.

  • Transaction management of Workflow Services

    Workflow services (TaskService) are not participating in BPEL/client transactions when called as SOAP services. Only the EJB client interfaces of workflow services are able to join the client transaction.
    I tried 2 options with BPEL client. Set the element taskService/participateInClientTransaction in wf_client_config.xml to true and set the value of CONNECTION_PROPERTY.TASK_SERVICE_PARTICIPATE_IN_CLIENT_TRANSACTION to java.lang.String "true" in the map argument to WorkflowServiceClientFactory.getWorkflowServiceClient(..) but workflow service does not participate in transaction with BPEL client.
    Any idea how to make the workflow participate in transaction with BPEL client?

    you can control from BPM.
    COMMIT Acknowledgement is needed from the receiving system to control the adapters.

    Hi,
    If you want to send an email when the status is changed please do the following custominzing:
    T.Code SPPFCADM
    Select appl. CRM_ORDER and Define Action Profile
    Enter into action profile SMIN_STD and copy SMIN_ STD_MAIL to ZMIN_STD_MAIL (Include "Z" into the description to identify later)
    Select Schedule Automatically and Partner Dependant (select Reporter, Support Team...based on you requirement)
    Check in Processing Type that Method, Class and SmartForm is assigned.
    Now you have define the action profile.
    Come back to T.Code SPPFCADM
    Select appl. CRM_ORDER and Condition configuration
    Active Technical Names and go trough SMIN_ STD, you should create here the action profile defined in the previous step. In the right side go to button "create" and select the action profile ZMIN_STD_MAIL.
    Into this new step go to Schedule Condition Tab where you should create a new definition, when you want that the action is execute (button Edit Condition) where you should create a condition like:
    USER STATUS = E0001SMIN0001 (E0001 is the status and SMIN0001 the status profile assigned to the transaction type)
    Now you have schedule your action profile
    The last work is to configure the t.code SCOT. It should be done by your basis team.

  • Is the JTS Transaction Manager Java Mapping of Corba OTS using JSE Impl?

    Hi All,
    I was reading the Java Transaction Service Specification .95 Draft, and I am curious if the Java Mapping of Corba OTS 1.1 Interfaces Implementation is generally referring to the Java Standard Edition implementation of these classes, specifically the IDL code that is converted into Java classes in the tools.jar. I attempted to manually compile the IDL code in the OMG Transaction Service Specification 1.4 using idlj in JDK 1.6 and ran into one compilation issue after another, until I realized The CosTransactions Module, and other required Corba IDL interface are already converted into Java classes in the tools.jar of the JDK. My assumption was I should map directly to the classes in the JDK if I create a Java Transaction Manager for the Java Transaction Service Specification?
    Any help you can provide on this subject will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Error Using the SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC Service Pack 3

    Hi,
    Im using the SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC Service Pack 3. The connection is succesfully, but when I use de statement.executequery() method, there is the follow exception:
    java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer]Invalid object name 'PEC_COUNTRY'.
    This is my code:
    ResultSet resultSet;
    Statement statement;
    Connection connection;
    Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver").newInstance();
    connection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://S0MALMUERTA:1433;user=sa;password=");
    statement = connection.createStatement();
    resultSet = statement.executeQuery("SELECT COY_INX, COY_NAME, COY_ICO FROM PEC_COUNTRY
    ");When I make the last instruction, occurs the above exception
    Thanks in advance
    Luija

    The way you are connecting, the default database used will be 'master' and i guess that the table PEC_COUNTRY was defined in another database.
    If it is the case you need to specify the database name.
    connection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://S0MALMUERTA:1433;DatabaseName=yourdb;user=sa;password=");

  • Using JDBC Persistent Manager for Tomcat across multiple Servers

    Sorry if I word this question incorrectly, but I hope you can get the gist of it. Basically, I have a web application that will be running on 2 different machines. When too many users are on one machine, they are switched over to another machine (load balancing). If I use JDBC (or file) Persistance Manager to store sessions, what happens when a user is switched between machines? If both machines use the same settings for the Persistance Manager, when a user has just been moved to a new machine, will it be able to load the session from the DB? (since it should have its sessionID). If you can not do this, is there a way to do it?
    Thanks!

    Thanks!Session ids are unique and cannot be transferred between different servers... Wise web servers supports load balancing and should be able to transfer/store session without your special code. If you still keen to write transfer code yourself you have to:
    1) Store not only session id, but also all content of session (including some virtual (your) session id
    2) Transfer (i.e. create a copy) stored session content to another machine

  • Oracle Heterogenous Services using JDBC (not using ODBC)

    Dear Friends,
    I need to configure Oracle HS to connect with MS SQL Server using JDBC as our company don't want to go for ODBC connection.
    Operating System is HP-UX
    Oracle Database Version is
    Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bi
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
    CORE 10.2.0.3.0 Production
    TNS for HPUX: Version 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.3.0 - Production
    Can anyone please help me.

    The options you have for Heterogeneous Services are ODBC and OleDB.
    JDBC is not an option.
    The only other option is Transparant Gateway, a separately licenseable product.
    I don't know whether Transparant Gateway relies on other drivers.
    From the Sqlserver end there is MSDTC.
    Oracle generally doesn't underdocument their products.
    You can safely assume if it isn't documented, it isn't there.

  • Help: Connecting Tomcat to CA-IDMS Using JDBC Type 4 Drivers (JNDI)

    Hi there,
    I have a rather interesting / complex problem......creating a connection to CA-IDMS from Tomcat using JDBC type 4 drivers (CA provide the type 4 driver).
    We have a zSeries 9 IBM mainframe running CA-IDMS r16.1, and I need to connect to the IDMS from Tomcat (running on Linux) using the JDBC Type 4 drivers provided by CA.
    At this stage I am struggling with the actual setup and configuration of Tomcat’s server.xml and web.xml files. These are the files where the JDBC configuration is set (I think). I have to setup the CA-IDMS part of the configuration, but that is a different problem. Basically there is a TCP/IP listener on the IDMS, waiting for incoming connections from the JDBC type 4 driver.
    I set up a Tomcat to MySQL connection using MySQL Connector / J, which is a similar kind of process to what I am trying to achieve with IDMS. MySQL connector / J came with a jar file which is placed in Tomcat’s lib folder, and then the JDBC setup for the web application is created in Tomcat's server.xml and web.xml files. You can then connect to the MySQL database using JSP and the configured JDBC driver / connection. The CA-IDMS Server comes with an idmsjdbc.jar file, which I think is the JDBC typr 4 driver. I think it needs to be placed in the Tomcat /lib folder, but I don’t know how to set up the configuration.
    There is a JDBC DriverManager which allows JDBC drivers to connect to CA-IDMS. The DriverManager recognises the following syntax:
    jdbc:idms://hostname:port/database
    This allows the JDBC driver running within Tomcat to connect to the IDMS which is running on the IDM mainframe. CA IDMS r16 supports direct connections from the Type 4 JDBC driver to the Central Version on IDMS. "hostname" is the DNS name or IP address of the machine where the CV is running, and "port" is the IP port that was specified for the listener PTERM (setup on the IDMS side).
    There is a caidms.properties file for the JDBC driver, which is used to specify user ID, password, and optional accounting information. It can also be used to specify physical connection information, allowing an application to connect to a CA-IDMS database without requiring the definition of an ODBC style data source. However, I don’t know where to place this file within the Tomcat setup.
    There is also an IdmsDataSource class. I don’t know where to configure this or how to set it up; the CA-IDMS Server manual states the following:
    This class implements the JDBC DataSource interface. It is used with an application server (Tomcat) providing Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) naming service to establish a connection to a CA IDMS database. IdmsDataSource properties conform to the Java Beans naming conventions and are implicitly defined by public “setter” and “getter” methods. For example, the “description” property, which is required for all DataSource implementations, is set using the setDescription(String) method. The application server may use the java.lang.reflection methods to discover DataSource properties and provide an interface to set them, or may simply require that they are defined in some configuration file. IdmsDataSource properties are used to specify the connection parameters. These properties are the equivalent of the DriverPropertyInfo attributes described in the previous section and can be used to completely define the parameters needed to connect to a database. Like a URL, an IdmsDataSource object can also reference an “ODBC” style data source name, where the connection parameters are defined in the configuration file on Linux.
    Is there anyone that can try to point me in the right direction to setting up the JDBC connection? I am totally new to Java and so the instructions are not making much sense at the moment. Any help, hints, tips…..anything will be greatly appreciated as I have just hit a brick wall here. I can't find much to do with setting up the CA-IDMS Server JDBC type 4 driver online either....if anyone can point me to some resources that would also be extremely useful.
    Kind regards
    Jp

    You say you've managed to get the JDBC driver working
    in an application but not in a JSP. You also say that
    the error you get is
    "com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver".
    I'd be willing to bet that the exception that you have
    got is a ClassNotFoundException. I.E. your application
    server hasn't found the JDBC driver classes. The
    application server probably doesn't use your current
    CLASSPATH to look for classes. It will be setup within
    the application server in some way and you'll need to
    check your app server documentation to see how it is
    done.
    Try replacing
    e.printStackTrace();with
    e.printStackTrace(out);to get a full stack trace of your error.
    ColTried it. Got this error when I tried to run the JSP.
    Incompatible type for method. Can't convert javax.servlet.jsp.JspWriter to java.io.PrintWriter.
              e.printStackTrace(out);
    I'm currently using Apache Tomcat 4.0.3 as my JSP/Servlet Container.
    I'm also using Type 4 MS SQL Server 2000 JDBC driver version 2.0 on my NT4.0 Server.
    Do I need to set my JDBC driver in my container? if so, how do I do that?

  • How to use JDBC Connection Pools in a standalone application?

    Hi, there,
    I have a question about how to use JDBC Connection Pools in an application. I know well about connection pool itself, but I am not quite sure how to keep the pool management object alive all the time to avoid being destroyed by garbage collection.
    for example, at the website: http://www.developer.com/java/other/article.php/626291, there is a simple connection pool implementation. there are three classes:JDBCConnection, the application's gateway to the database; JDBCConnectionImpl, the real class/object to provide connection; and JDBCPool, the management class to manage connection pool composed by JDBCConnectionImpl. JDBCPool is designed by Singleton pattern to make sure only one instance. supposing there is only one client to use connection for many times, I guess it's ok because this client first needs instantiate JDBCPool and JDBCConnectionImpl and then will hold the reference to JDBCPool all the time. but how about many clients want to use this JDBCPool? supposing client1 finishes using JDBCPool and quits, then JDBCPool will be destroyed by garbage collection since there is no reference to it, also all the connections of JDBCConnectionImpl in this pool will be destroyed too. that means the next client needs recreate pool and connections! so my question is that if there is a way to keep pool management instance alive all the time to provide connection to any client at any time. I guess maybe I can set the pool management class as daemon thread to solve this problem, but I am not quite sure. besides, there is some other problems about daemon thread, for example, how to make sure there is only one daemon instance? how to quit it gracefully? because once the whole application quits, the daemon thread also quits by force. in that case, all the connections in the pool won't get chance to close.
    I know there is another solution by JNDI if we develop servlet application. Tomcat provides an easy way to setup JNDI database pooling source that is available to JSP and Servlet. but how about a standalone application? I mean there is no JNDI service provider. it seems a good solution to combine Commons DBCP with JNID or Apache's Naming (http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/dbcp/index.html). but still, I don't know how to keep pool management instance alive all the time. once we create a JNDI enviroment or naming, if it will save in the memory automatically all the time? or we must implement it as a daemon thread?
    any hint will be great apprieciated!
    Sam

    To my knoledge the pool management instance stays alive as long as the pool is alive. What you have to figure out is how to keep a reference to it if you need to later access it.

  • Unique rollback in a BPEL process using web services

    We are a cellular communication company using Oracle DB (10g) and Oracle Forms to run our business applications (customer care and the like). We have planned a system migration using the SOA approach with the latest release of Oracle BPEL Suite (business logic), Oracle ADF BC (presentation level), Oracle OAS (application server) and JDeveloper (application development IDE).
    Within our current applications we have processes that perform several tasks (inserts, updates and/or deletes on the same DB) as part of one atomic DB transaction. Using the SOA approach we’ve deemed those tasks as being ‘services’ that we, let’s say for the sake of argument, could implement either as web services (so as to be published for reuse) or as stored procedures encapsulated via DB adapters (BPEL lexicon).
    Our biggest challenge, and hence our question to the SOA world, is how to attain that same unique transaction. We understand that there is no one perfect approach, for the ‘solution’ depends on too many factors and choices; what we’d like to know are past experiences people had or, at best, what do people consider what the best practices in the industry are regarding this matter.
    <strong><u>Approach A:</u></strong> all services are implemented as DB adapters (stored procedures and the like).
    <strong><u>PROS</u><u>:</u></strong> one single DB rollback should any service fail to execute properly and so undo all changes made so far.
    <u><strong>CONS:</strong></u> highly coupled, non-visible components (via UDDI); impossibility to manage, control and audit (via WS Manager) components; weak/poor SOA Governance.
    <u><strong>Approach B:</strong></u> all services are implemented as web services.
    <u><strong>PROS:</strong></u> loosely coupled, self-contained, and web accessible visible components (via UDDI) besides the ease to manage, control and audit (via WS Manager); strong SOA Governance.
    <u><strong>CONS:</strong></u> since each web service is a &lsquo;different&rsquo; transaction with its own &lsquo;commit&rsquo;, a unique rollback transaction for the whole process will not be possible should a WS fail, for previous WSs will have already committed their data changes before doing the rollback.
    <u><strong>Approach C:</strong></u> services implemented as a mix of web services and DB Adapters.
    <strong><u>PROS:</u></strong> those of Approach B for web services.
    <strong><u>CONS:</u></strong> those of Approach A (DB adapters) + those of Approach B (web services).
    <hr />
    So, the 64,000 dollar question is how to attain a single transaction when you have web services as part of your process? Do we need to &rsquo;build/create&rsquo; a schema/functionality similar to the &lsquo;DB-undo-segment&rsquo; in order to obtain a single rollback transaction for the whole process or does the BPEL COMPENSATE delivers this functionality somehow?
    Are we not seeing the obvious? Are we not seeing the forest because we&rsquo;re looking at a tree? Please keep in mind that we are using Oracle BPEL.

    Hi Marinus,
    you are absolutely right and not missing anything. OWSM does not free you from taking additional measures to block direct interaction with the unsecure WebService from not "authorized" clients. You must restrict the http response to the OWSM host only (either in the Apache or the OC4J configuration). See the related documentation.
