  • Can I transfer photos between users on same macbook?

Can I transfer photos between users on same macbook? I've exported them out of iPhoto into a folder on desktop. Would like to move them into other User account on same laptop.

I did figure this out eventually and am going to record it here so later, when i ultimately forget the twists and turns I took to make this happen, I'll be able to come back and see....For me it was not as simple as John (above) offered...First: Export photos from iPhoto into folder on desktop. Click on the folder and select from the top left corner File - Check info- click the box beside shared folder- scroll down to Sharing & Permission and make sure the other user acccount is added to who can read & write.
If you haven't done this already go into System Preferences- Sharing- check the box beside File Sharing- click on File Sharing as well and 2 windows will appear- Shared Folders and Users. Select the shared folder you want to use and in the User window add the other user account to who can read & write.
Next: Open Finder- select Public Folder- drag photo folder into it.
Now log off and open your other User profile. Open Finder. Select Macintosh HD in the side bar- select Users Folder- select the original User profile you want your photos from- select Public Folder- your photo folder should be there, drag it onto your Desktop or directly into iPhoto. If a block occurs saying you aren't alllowed to see this folder then you missed a step in the whole file sharing business.
Viola! it worked. Hope this helps someone else

  • Sharing Applications between User Accounts

Have just bought a new iMac having used windows based PC's etc....QU: I recently installed MSN Messenger whenlogged in as me (Administrator) however my wife created a USer Account and she had to re-instal MSN Messenger as it had disappeared from the box at the bottom of the screen. I am concerned that there are two applications installed where there only need be one?
    iMAC

Just to expand a little on what Terence said in his post (since you are a new Mac user)...
There are two places (normally) where you store your applications (although the Mac doesn't really care where you put them. There are also THREE Library folders (if you weren't confused enough, but the first one inside the System folder should not be modified in any way).
The first, and most preferred location to store apps, is in the Applications folder on the top level of your hard drive (represented as /Applications).
The second location, for users who do not want to share their apps with other users on their machine, is in the user's own home directory (represented as /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Applications).
Normally, most applications are automatically stored in the first location (neither of my machines even have an Applications folder in my user folder - maybe because I am the only user of the machines). I am sure, though, there are some installer programs that might want to install its application in the user's home folder instead of the top level apps folder (MSN perhaps being one of them), so long story short, you should be aware of where you install your apps, so that other users can also use them.
Cheers, and welcome to the Mac family!

  • Sharing applications between users on the same machine

I am new to the world of MAc OSX, I bought my mac to run a specific application, No problem there, However that application needs to be accessed via multiple users on the same machine. So far I have created the user logons, But each user gets a new iteration of the same application. How can I make one copy of the application together with all its data base files accesible my other users, Also when the user that owns the application logs off...the application is terminated... I have set up fast switching...as a work around so the application will stay up, but Other users cant see it...Help please

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
However that application needs to be accessed via multiple users on the same machine.
If the app is in the HD/Applications folder, all users can access it and use it. Then it doesn't matter of the other users are logged on or off. It's not a different iteration, there is no duplication.
To share the data: as Kappy says, put it in the Users/Shared folder. Each user can see into another user's Shared Folder.
Here's a question: if each user has to use the same app plus the same data, why have different accounts? The whole point of different accounts is to keep data separate?

  • Transfer Info Between User Accounts

I have been using the admin account on my iBook ever since I bought it--I never created a "user" account. Now, for security reasons, I'd like to start using a "user" account with fewer priveliges, to guard against viruses, hack attacks, etc.
I know how to set up the accounts, and have done so. The Big Question is: Aside from transferring things via CD, how do I get all of my Address Book info, mp3's, files, etc.,--basically everything I've stored on here for the past two years--from one account to another?

    Kate -
Why don't you create another Admin account and then change your original admin account to a standard user, you could probably do this and not have to move much at all.

  • Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same macbook pro?

Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same MacBook Pro?
Specifically, I used the Migration Assistant to move music and photos from my old PC to my new MacBook.
Somehow, I missed the fact that it was creating a new user account when it was doing this.  So none of music and photos are in the user account I originally set-up.  Instead, all these files are now in a different account.
I'd like to consolidate all my files on the one user account and delete the other one.
Is this possible and, if so, how do I do it?
    Thank you.

you can crop files from one account to another using the Public Dropbox which every user account has.  Log into the user that has the files you want to move, then drag the folder you want to the new users' dropbox:
I suggest a small scale test on a few files first before moving gigabytes of files.

  • HT4889 I want to transfer specific applications between macs.

I want to transfer specific applications between macs but Migration Assistant doesn't offer that option.  Any suggestions?

If the apps were downloaded from the App Store, you can re download on all your other authorized Macs for free.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • BADI to transfer data between BPC applications

    Hi Experts,
We have written script logic using BADI for transfering data from HCM application to FINANCE application using DAPP BADI. below is the code

when we run this code through Program UJK_SCRIPT_LOGIC_TESTER directly in BW system, it went fine but when run from BPC Data manager , it consuming more memory ( at the programe CL_RSR_RRK0_PARTITION=========CP) and dumping in the system. can you suggest us on this?
My mate already posted the same issue in below thread, but no luck so posting new thread again.

    Hi Sonal,
    other than partitions, text file
there are two more methods, according to my knowledge
    1.XREF
2.HAL (Hyperion Application Link) using essbase adapters
we use both XREF and HAL at our company to transfer data between applications depending on the need.
    hope this helps.

  • Forced to Close all open applications when switching between users.

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 13 inch, and have 2 accounts set up on the computer.
When switching between users on the computer, I am always forced to close all open applications on the current user, in order to switch to another user.
I was wondering if there was ANY way to keep the pages (specifically Safari) open when switching to another user, so that I can go back to them when I log back in to the other account.
    thanks for the help!

  • Move an iTunes library between users on the same mac

How do I move an iTunes library between users on the same mac?
I accidentally created a secondary user on my mac some time ago when using the migration tool and am now going back and transferring all my files from the secondary to the admin user profile.
I wanted to know which itunes files/folders need to be copied over.
Is the process as simple as replacing the itunes folder on admin with the copied itunes folder from my secondary profile or do I need to delete the admin folder first and then copy the old folder over or do I delete the contents of the folder and replace with the copied contents?
I am using shared folders to move between users, but want to make sure that I am picking the right files to transfer.
    Thanks in advance.

Assuming you have left iTunes to default settings so everything is still in the iTunes folder the way iTunes likes it to be, copy the whole of the iTunes folder to the new location.  If it is in the default directory (Home > Music) for iTunes the application will automatically use it there for the new account.  If you put it elsewhere you will have to start iTunes and immediately hold down the option key to direct it to the new location.
It is just possible you will have to change permissions.  If you encounter those issues read the part about changing permissions on the iTunes folder in: https://discussions.apple.com/message/11583914
This is all a slight variant on:  iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527

  • Criteria for dividing an application between multiple WARs

What criteria are generally used when deciding on the division of a large application between several WAR files?
I'd imagine that an eBay wouldn't put their entire web application into a single WAR. But I am unsure of what they would consider when deciding how they would split up their application.
As each WAR file has its own context under the web server (is this correct?), I have the feeling from looking at a few tutorials (and seeing what's in the address bar) that it's to be split up by function (e.g. contexts paths for /register, /checkout, etc)
Though the above doesn't seem like I'm interpreting their intentions or this concept correctly. If somebody could please help to explain the guidelines behind such a decision, that would be highly appreciated.
Thank you for any explanation you can provide.

Thanks for the reply. We are using cookies and all of the WAR files are under the same domain. The issue is when the user moves from a page in one WAR to a page in another WAR, the session data does not transfer with the user (the get a new session).Yes, I already understood the problem. Did you on your turn understood my answer "This is forbidden as per the Servlet specification" ?
Is it correct to assume the only way to do this is to set up a persistence layer to hold basic session/user information that is accessible from all WARs and then use the common JSESSIONID that they all share (since they are under the same domain) as the Primary Key?It´s not the only way, but one of the ways, yes.

  • Duplicate user account OR migrate iPhoto/iWeb between users

I've seen this question asked several times before, but have not seen an answer!
So, with as many details as I can muster:
I have, on my computer, 4 user accounts: my admin account, my user account, my boyfriend's user account, and our business account... All separate, keeps things nice and tidy (sort of!).
I have a new and separate project that I'm starting to work on which involves lots of images, and new websites, and new and different stuff that's necessary for the project, but just clutter in any of the other accounts.
Because this project started out as something my man wanted to play around with, all of the beginnings of this are in his iPhoto and his iWeb, and they're well organized.  I've not had luck so far moving the iPhoto and iWeb libraries to a new/blank user and maintaining the organization that I've spent time and attention making right.
He's not so great with technology, and gets very frustrated (and unproductive!) when anything on the computer doesn't work exactly like he expects it to. (When Lion came out and the scrolling went "the wrong direction" he was afraid to use the computer at all for a week, because "everything changed, I don't even know how to use it anymore" that's between us though, personal issure ). So I'd like to keep the user experience the same for him.   I'd like to duplicate his settings, preferences, etc. into a new user for him, and take over his current account to isolate this project.
    So, in summary:
I want to create a new account with the same user experience  as a current  account without having to find and reset all of his settings.
    OR
I want an exact copy of the iPhoto and iWeb from this user account to another one, on the same machine.
    I am currently running OSX 10.7.2, iPhoto '11 9.2.1 and iWeb 3.0.4
Thanks in advance for any help!

That's easy, if you have Time Machine or "bootable clone" backups. (If you don't, you should anyway.  Post back if you need info on them.)
Use Migration Assistant to transfer just that user account from the backups; it will put up a screen saying it can't transfer it under the same name as the existing account, and allowing you to rename it.
Other than having a different name, the transferred account will be identical to the existing one.  Then you can modifiy them separately as necessary.
EDIT:  see Using Migration Assistant on Lion for detailed instructions.  Be sure to un-check the boxes for eveything except that one user account.

  • Transfer app between accounts

*THE ISSUE:* I used Migration Assistant to transfer all my files and applications from my Mac Mini to my new MacBook Pro. In the process I created a separate user account for the imported content, so as not to lose the apps installed on the MacBook under a username duplicated on both computers.
The migration was successful, but now I have applications (such as Postbox) under the MacBook Pro user account that do not appear when I switch to the migrated Mac Mini user account. My goal is to transfer all the new MacBook Pro apps and docs into the migrated Mac Mini user account now on the MacBook Pro, and then to delete the redundant account)
*THE QUESTION:* How can i transfer an app (and all related files) from one user account to another user account on the same computer?
    Thanks!

You don't have to. All users can access applications in the Applications folder unless they were installed by another user via Drag and Drop or have been restricted in a managed account.
For the former just change the permissions on an inaccessible application:
    1. Select the application. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. At the bottom is the pane for Ownership and Sharing.
    2. The correct settings should be:
    Owner=system with r/w privileges
    Group=wheel with read-only privileges
    Everyone is read-only
If the owner is a username then you need to change the permissions as follows.
    3. Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter:
    sudo chown -R root:wheel
Put a space after "wheel" then drag the icon of the application into the Terminal window. Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed. Press RETURN again.
If you have more than one application whose permissions need to be changed then select all of them and drag them into the Terminal window instead of just the one.
For the latter if the other user account is a Standard or Managed account, then you have to assign what applications that user can access via Parental Controls preferences or change the account to an admin account.
