Transfer songs from Mac to iPod, then transfer songs from PC to same iPod?

I would like to know if it is possible, and how to transfer some songs from my Mac (Power PC G4) to my iPod (iPod 20GB with color display), and THEN transfer some more songs from my husband's computer (Windows PC) to the SAME iPod WITHOUT ERRASING the ones I already transfered from the Mac.
Is this possible? do I need a special sodftware for this? can I find this software free anywhere?
Please help, thank you!

As pointed out by Mitch, the key here is you want to format the iPod (via the Restore command when plugged into the Windows iTunes) for Windows and both machines can read the iPod. Next set the iPod for manual syncing. You can now plug it into either computer and manually add stuff to the iPod or delete items off of it...

  • How do you transfer music from a mac based Ipod to a PC based computer

I have my main Itunes music collection on my "authorized" computer(Mac)at home and would like to transfer/move a copy of my collection to my "authorized"copy of Itunes computer(Windows) at work. My ipod is set up for the mac. Any clues hints or help would be appreciated

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Mac formatted iPods can only be used on a PC that has a third party helper program such as XPlay or MacDrive installed. XPlay is an iPod specific program and can be used as an iTunes alternative, it will also let you copy songs from an iPod to a computer. MacDrive is more general and lets you access various types of Mac formatted drives on Windows such as CDs, DVDs, hard drives etc:
    XPlay

how do i import music from my iPod nano to my mac desk top then export the music to my iPod touch?

    Hey there Antonio7,
You can transfer your iTunes purchases from your iPod nano to your computer with this article:
Re-download or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer
Transfer your purchases to your computer
Before you transfer your purchases, make sure that your computer is authorized with the same Apple IDaccount you used to make the purchases. Learn how to authorize your computer using iTunes.
If you bought the iTunes Store content on your device using multiple Apple ID accounts, you'll need to authorize the computer for each one.
To transfer purchases from your device to a computer:
Connect your device to the computer. Wait for its icon to appear in iTunes.
Go to File > Devices. If you're using iTunes for Windows and can't see the menu bar, learn how to turn on iTunes menus in Windows.
Choose Transfer Purchases from [device name].
This feature works only for content bought from the iTunes Store. Any items that you imported from audio CDs or received from other sources won't copy from your device to the iTunes library. However, all podcasts from your device's Podcasts app and copies of all PDFs and books from your device's iBooks app will transfer to the computer. Learn how to transfer media to your iTunes library.
Then you can sync the music to your iPod touch in the same way you sync music to any device:
Sync your iPhone, iPad and iPod with iTunes using USB - Apple Support

  • I want to buy some instructional DVD's, the site says it is supported by Mac, but due to flash drive cannot load on an iPad, if loaded on my Mac, can I then transfer to ipad?

I want to buy some instructional DVD's that the site states can be downloaded to PC's or a  Mac, but not iPad's as it uses flash drive.  My question is if I download it to my Mac, can I then transfer it to ipad?  Thanks all

Flash drive? Can you mean that it's flash video?
If it's flash video then you'd need to look in the app store and see if there is a third party flash player or a video converter for your mac that can convert those flash files to the mp4 or m4v that the ipad prefers...and there could be the further complication that the files may/may not have DRM that prohibit their alteration.
I think your best bet would be to communicate with them and see what advice they give on file formats. You can't be the only one wanting to view the videos on an iPad.

  • Moving from a Windows formatted iPod to a Mac formatted ipod

First of all, forgive me if this is a repost, as I know I have seen the resolution before, but am unable to find it.
I currently have an iPod 80GB classic, with about 40GB of music on it. I have recently purchased an iMac and want to move to a MAC formatted ipod. That is, connect and manage the ipod in a MAC environment instead of Windows.
I also want to back up all my music on the ipod to my MAC itunes library to ensure my music is all in one place.
Once all is said and done, I want a MAC formatted ipod, and not have lost my music on the ipod by reformatting it.
    Thank in advance.
    How can I accomplish this?

*I have recently purchased an iMac and want to move to a MAC formatted ipod.*
You need to restore it in iTunes for Mac
*I also want to back up all my music on the ipod to my MAC itunes library to ensure my music is all in one place.*
To copy everything (including purchases)to the Mac there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
Senuti Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
*Once all is said and done, I want a MAC formatted ipod, and not have lost my music on the ipod by reformatting it.*
Copy the songs to the Mac first then restore the iPod in iTunes for Mac.

    Hey there,
The first thing you want to check is to make sure that the game is compatible with your iPod model, which you can check by going to the purchase page of the game you bought.
If everything is good. Try this:
    1. In iTunes, select iPod in the source list and click the Games tab.
    2. Select "Sync games."
    3. Click "All games" or "Selected games." If you click "Selected games," also select the games you want to sync.
    4. Click Apply.
If still no luck, check out this troubleshooting page for games. Hope this helps.

  • Mac Formatted iPod Mini, want to use on PC then back to Mac?

I want to use my Mac formatted iPod Mini on a PC when I'm away for Christmas, but when I return home I want to use it on my Mac again. Is formatting the iPod to a PC required to do this? I don't want to lose all my music when I'm away because there will be no way to get it back till I return home. And, if I must format for a PC, what will happen when I plug it back into a Mac? Do I have to reformat again? Has anybody accomplished this successfully?

An iPod formatted with Windows will work with Windows or Mac.
An iPod formatted with Mac will not work on Windows. WIndopws cannot read Mac.
If you format with Windows, you will not need to reformat with Mac.

  • Mac Formatted Ipod on Windows XP, Possible?

Well i have a dilemma, well actaully 2 dilemmas but we'll take one step at a time here. Is there any way to get the songs on my Mac formatted iPod onto my PC, also, can i transfer songs from my PC to my Mac formatted ipod. If so, how? My reason for wanting to do this is that i had my ipod formatted for a Mac on my mac mini, but now the mac mini when i try to power it up hangs at the grey apple screen and does not boot(second dilemma). So id like to backup my songs on my PC at the very least so i dont lose any of my purchased music. So even if i can't transfer songs to my ipod from my PC its ok, so long as i can backup the songs. Thanks for your help.
    -Ryan S.

    From the iPod FAQ:
Question: Can I use an iPod formatted for Mac on a PC, or an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac?
Answer: It is not possible to use an iPod formatted for Mac with Windows. This is because Windows does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive.

  • Mac formatted iPod connected to Windows

I have a 60gig iPod which is formatted to my iMac. I would like to use my iPod to move files from one machine to another. However when I connect it to a pc it asks me to reformat it everytime. Is there any way to connect to both mac and pc while having my iPod formatted for a mac?

Well, your other option is MacDrive... you can get a free trial(thats if you dont feel like formatting your ipod right yet) and use the ipod as a hard disk to transfer your music to a new computer. It will also enable itunes to write data to a mac formatted ipod. If you want to use it for long term use, you will have to pay for the program. I know i plugged in my mac formatted 4gen ipod and it popped up a messagein itunes asking if I wanted to enable itunes for use with a mac formatted ipod. I was only using mac drive as a temp solution to get music to another computer.
Mac drive is just one of the options, there are a few other programs that can enable mac formatted disks to be written too.

  • PC FORMATTED iPod read by MAC & PC?  MAC formatted iPod read only by MAC?

Is this how the formatting issue works? I'm looking to buy an iPod for a friend who (I think) has PC.....
Since I'm a mac person, I want to buy the gift, load some music on, and ship it off to the lucky recipient....but if they have a PC , will it be recongnized once it's plugged in?
    Any info would be helpful.
    Thanks.

PC FORMATTED iPod read by MAC & PC? MAC formatted iPod read only by MAC? Is this how the formatting issue works?
Yes, that is how it works.
Since I'm a mac person, I want to buy the gift, load some music on, and ship it off to the lucky recipient....but if they have a PC , will it be recongnized once it's plugged in?
Okay, unless you restore your iPod while you're on the Mac, I believe it will still be formatted for a PC.
(You will not need to restore the iPod for transferring music to it on a Mac unless you want to upgrade the iPod's firmware on a Mac computer, then it will have to be Mac-formatted).
You see, when you recieve an iPod, it is shipped to you as a Windows-formatted iPod, probably since the majority of the population has PCs, and also, PC-formatted iPods are compatible for music transfer for a Mac also.
    Does that make sense?
EDIT: Zevoneer has already answered your question, so you can ignore all of my post if you wish.
