Transferring and Merging Pages files.

I have files (text with photos) originally composed in Pages 08, automatically updated to 09 upon opening, I think. I am trying to merge several files into a new 09 file, generated as a new section. When opening the new template (word processor), I am unable to insert the original files. I use Pages>Insert>Choose, but the desired files are all grayed out and not responding. The original files all have the .pages extension.
Please advise, and thanks for your help.

The insert > pages command is for adding pre-set pages like in the templates or any pages you have captured. Instead, you want to open your files & show thumbnails. Sections have a yellow border around all of the pages in that section. Now click on the page in the thumbnail pane & copy. If the file is more than one page & you only want one, you'll need to insert a section break to separate the pages. Then go to your other file, click in the thumbnail pane & paste. The whole copied page will be pasted in. Repeat with another section. Styles will copy over with the sections but headers & footers will not.

  • Adobe Acrobat, Print multiple files to PDF and merge open files to closed files?

    I have Adobe Acrobat XI Professional.
    Print to PDF – How can this be done for more than 15 documents at a time?  Right now, if I select 16 or more documents, I cannot ‘right click’ and choose ‘print’.  Is this a setting issue?  If I have many documents I need to print to PDF at once, it would be helpful if there wasn’t this limitation.  Background: This needs to be done to PDF files created from Adobe Live Cycle (and possibly from other software) because the files cannot be merged unless they are ‘printed to PDF’ first.  I don't know an alternate way to merge these files.
    Also, if I have a multi-page PDF open and I need to parse out the pages to different files, is it possible to drag the selected pages out of the open PDF and hover over a closed PDF and have them added to the end of the closed PDF document?  I don't know of a way to do this, but I thought I would check to see if anyone else was aware of a simpler way to parse pages from one document into several pre-existing documents without opening each and dragging the files between them.

    Thank you for your response...I can do the additional step to combine them, the problem that I have is that the documents need to be in chronological order.  If I print them to the pdf printer or export them, either way, windows sorts them and they are no longer chronological.  While I can organize them when I combine them there are many times that there way too many that need combined into one pdf, making it a very inefficient and cumbersome process to do.  So I was in hopes there was a way to just have the pdf printer create one file instead of one for each document, it would keep them in chronological order.  I suppose I could number them on the print to keep them chronological - but when there are 75 or 100 documents it is a bit of a pain to sit there and respond to each document as it is being printed, and then need to do the additional step of combining.  My goal in this process is to gain efficiency so thought I would see if anyone knew how to use the pdf printer to create the single file.

    Im using release1 of portal (yes im not happy with it either).
    I have the next situatie and problem with an import of portal pages.
    Because of the use of 1 production-portal for every customer, i need to import portal pages from development to all the production-portals with the use of dumpfiles. For new pages this works great, but sometimes we just add new portlets to existing pages, and this is where i get stuck.
    Importing these pages again, doesnt give me a option to merge with the existing pages on the production-portal. Only options for modes are check and new. But both wont help me.
    So..is there a solution to like merge existing pages or if not...is it possible to add portlets to pages with an existing API.

    I have a very similar project in mind for a client and am trying to figure out how to best research this. I'm struggling to even use the right terms to find discussion threads. This is the first one I have come across that comes very close. My client wants to have a bunch of documents available for a proposal, then have a window where he checks the documents he wants to use and the order they should appear. I imagine some of those documents will need to be created prior to this process or a window would allow them to fill in the variable data...client info, etc. I was thinking a more rudimentary way would be to build all the chapters and optional files out organizing them well in folders, then just using Acrobat to choose and combine the files, ordering them as needed. I guess that's my back-up plan, but would love more input/suggestions on how to be more dynamic within InDesign itself.

  • Split and Merge pages of a PDF in an Outlook VB Macro

    Hello,
    I was tasked with pushing PDF attachments to our image system using a VB Macro from Outlook.  Easy enough to do by itself but there is an additional requirement to direct certain pages of the attachment to one folio in the image system and other pages to a different folio.  In the event the user doesn't separate these different documents when they submit them, our home office users must select which pages go to which area.
    I have Adobe 9.0 Pro Extended installed but the users only have Reader.
    I think the best way to approach this is to have the document opened for viewing and select pages via some control (chkbox?) to save in to a separate document.  So, if pages 1, 8, 22-24 were selected, create a new pdf in the image queue with those pages only.  Maybe this isn't possible with users that only have Reader installed, in which case another method could be suggested? 
    If I can just get a general idea on how to accomplish this, what libraries to reference and a snippet or two of code, I can probably put the rest together.  Can anyone out there help me out with a direction to head?

    If it is only for split&merge you can use a freeware tool from a long list which can do it, like PDFTK, .....

  • Power failure and lost Pages file

    Power on my laptop suddenly went off and I had not saved a copy of a new Pages file I was working on. It does not appear in recent files or anywhere when I restarted and opened Pages. Are temp files stored anywhere that I might look to recover the work I've done?

    No, unfortunately.
    You can set Pages to save a copy of any +previous version+ in your Preferences, however this wouldn't help in this case.

    Best is to use cmd S regularly as you work, then you choose at what point it is saved.

  • I updated Pages two months ago, yet my gmail program will NOT send out a pages document and a pages file I saved to desktop will NOT open and a box pops up telling me it won't open document without the Pages upgrade WHICH I HAVE ALREADY DONE...PLEASE HELP

    I updated Pages two months ago to the latest version.  BUT, my MAIL program will not allow me to send documents I attach that are genereated witht eh update Pages.  And, when I save a doc to desktop generated in Pages, it will not opena, a box pops up and tells me the it wil not open until I have upgraded to the new PAges, WHICH I HAVE ALREADY DONE!!!  What is UP with this, can anyone please help me?  Would GREATLY appreciate it.

    Pages 5 is in a new format that is not compatible with GMail, Google, Amazon, DropBox and other 3rd party servers.

    I don't think it's that straightforward...
    Pages now stores a document in a package (a folder that looks like a file). Mail clients will either allow you to attach the package, but read it as a folder and send the individual files within the package to the email server, breaking the structure, or they will attach only the folder itself (no contents).
    For browser-based email clients, like gmail, they don't normally have permission to read the contents of a folder you select so can't upload them. So, they upload just an empty folder. This will affect browser-based mail services generally including Yahoo, etc.
    So, in terms of a fix, this will need either security changes in browsers per se, OS X to convert the package to a file on the fly when it is read by certain apps, the format changed back to a single file or some such other approach.

    CPU: 4 (@ 2.93 GHz, 1 core)
    Memory: 12 GB
    Page file: 12 GB
    1. The actual utilization, be it a 15 minute sample, hourly, weekly etc, the utilization of real memory has never crossed 20% and the page file usage is at 0.1%. For some reason, the Pages/Sec>Limit% counter reports 100% continuously regardless of the
    sampling intervals. Upon further observation, the Page Reads/Sec value is somewhere between 150~450 and Page Input/Sec is somewhere between 800~8000. Does this indicate a performance bottleneck? (I've in the interim asked the Users, App. Owners to see if they
    notice any performance degradation and awaiting response). If this indicates a performance issue, please could someone help list down how to track this down further to which process/memory mapped file is causing it? and what I should go about performing to
    fix this problem please?
    p.s., initially the Security logs were full on this server and since page file is tied to Application, Security and System logs, this was freed up to see if this is causing the high page reads but this doesn't.
    2. If the above does not necessarily indicate a performance problem, please can someone reference few KB articles that confirms this? Also, in this case, will there be any adverse effects if attempting to fine tune a server which is already running fine?

  • What is a page file/scratch/render disk drive?

    I understand that computers using Premiere Pro usually have more than one hard drive; one for the operating system and programs. One or more for media. And one for page file/scratch/rendering?  Can someone tell me how a page file/scratch/rendering drive is set up? I'm using Windows 7 (as 64-bit) with Pre. Pro CS5.

    Though there is probably a performance increase with the separation of the Scratch Disks onto a separate HDD, I keep them with with the Project files, so that housekeeping is much easier.
    For a separate HDD for the Scratch Disks, I would go with a fast SATA HDD.
    The starting configuration is:
    C:\ OS, programs and maybe Page File (Windows Virtual Memory)
    D:\ Projects (and Scratch Disks in my case)
    E:\ Media
    Beyond that, one could probably get performance increases with a separate very fast HDD for Page File (size can be small), separate HDD for Export and a separate HDD for Scratch Disks. Some separate the Media disks with one physical HDD for Video and one for Audio.
    I would anticipate that in a perfect world, one would have a RAID for Video, one for Audio, one for Scratch Disks and one for Export. These would be on a physical controller card with on-board memory cache. You might want to look for the full specs. on "Harm's Beast," as he goes into great detail on his system. Now, he had to place his machine in a commercial walk-in freezer, and keeps the temp around 0 F, to keep it from bursting into flames...

  • Essbase pag file size had a sudden increase

    We have a BSO cube who used to have 1.8g of exported data and about 2.5 gigs of pag files. However, they both suddenly increased to 5 gigs each (in just one day). I checked our logs and there were only a few data uploads/changes and the outline member additions that we had that day were all dynamic calcs members. We do export - clear - reload data everynight, but the exported files and page files are still on th 5 gigs.
    Does anyone know what could have caused this issue?

    Same type of thing happened here. Overnight, 3 hour agg calc now taking upwards of 8 hours. They had implemented hierarchy additions, nothing drastic.
    By chance, were any of these Dynamic Calc members created in sparse dimensions? Do they roll up to stored members? It's bad ju-ju to have that situation.
    This was the biggest design offender I found, and am redesigning cube for them right now.
    I have taken the 8-10 hour agg (and 41 pag files) down to 36 minutes (and 15 pag files) simply by changing the dense and sparse settings of their cube. One of the dimensions they had dynamic members rolling up to stored members, I made this one dense and made all upper levels dynamic. (of course I had to change some of their other dense dimensions to sparse to accomodate this) But the end results on time and page files tells me that having dynamic calc members roll to stored members is really bad.

    Here's an easy way:
    Pick the user that you want to eliminate (making sure that the remaining user has administrator privileges) and move all of the data that you want to keep into the Shared folder. Reboot or log out and login to the user you want to keep. Copy all the data from the Shared folder into your account - placing it neatly in folders (Documents, Music, Movies, etc.).
    Once the data is moved, log into the account you want to delete just once more to make certain that you've grabbed all the data you want to keep. Log out and log back into your admin account and go to System Preferences>Users & Groups and delete the 'old' user.
    That should do it.

    I've done this by dragging files from my user page to her drop box. In Finder, drag the required files and hover over the hard disc icon in the navigation bar on the left. As you hover, it will open another finder window showing the contents. Work your way down these windows into <Her username | Public | Dropbox>. Drop the files into the dropbox. She can then retrieve them from her user page.

Original file is written on iMac (2014) and saved to an USB stick and then transferred till macBook Pro (2009, Yosemite) for editing. Then I shared the files by iCloud but I am not able to open them on iMac again. Niether can I use the USB stick to transfer the edited files back. I'm running Pages '09 4,1 (923) on the macBook and Pges 5.5.2 (2120) on the iMac.

    Pages 5.5.2 is extremely incompatible with even other Macs let alone the vast majority of PC and MsWord users out there, so not a good idea to leap into the fire with both eyes shut.
    After having done that to the first Pages 5 files, Apple has repeatedly done it to even the most minor point updates. Apple can't even anticipate its own erratic changes let alone what everyone else needs doing.

    I could not log in to this Support Community with my UPDATED Apple ID (and this is another issue I can't believe Apple just says "NO, you CAN'T!" - deleting other (old) Apple IDs we've created by mistake or a long time ago and being able to have it all on ONE SINGLE UPDATED Apple ID - ALSO saving Apple's storage servers, etc.).
    Anyway, my Apple ID for better communication is [email protected] (but I really couldn't log in here - it kept saying that the e-mail is already registered, etc. I know it, I'm trying to use it here, that's all...
    So, really. Of course a lot of people don't care about the iDisk issue. That's fine, we all love and hate specific apps or software.. But why has Apple just shut it down, since it was so EASY to use (as DropBox) on all our Apple devices?!! So, we really can't upload/store any kind of files anymore and that's it?!
    I used iDisk when MobileMe was still alive, and it was great to have my files from work, home, any backup (whatever we want) uploaded and synced and used in our Macs, iPhones and iPads. If we have the OPTION of an iCloud Plan (the top one, for example), but we just don't like the automatick backups for the iPhones and iPads, nor the Pictures' sync function.. Why can't we just have the SAME simple and efficient/great service of the iDisk installed in each device?!
    Do we really have to go back and downgrade back to the free iCloud Option (just for keeping the e-mail) and paying extra for DropBox, Google, Microsoft, any other services?! I have nothing against them - I actually have DropBox and it works great because it REMINDS me of iDisk!! But WHY NOT just keep it simple and closed with 1 company/platform/option - Apple's iOS, OSX, etc.
    That's why I decided to have a Macbook Pro, an iPhone 4S and an iPad 3rd. Generation (for example, along with other products and services such as Apple TV).. I know I'm CHOOSING to stay with 1 world, that's fine. And that's why I didn't (yet) go for a Samsung phone or another tablet.. I wanna stick with 1 pattern and I have chosen Apple's..
    Just can't understand such an innovative company make such decisions (such as shutting down iDisk or not letting us just DELETE Apple IDs we do NOT use anymore).. Please, just some guidance or confirmation if that's correct: No way of uploading files others than Numbers', Pages' or Keynote's!!??

    That's exactly what I was afraid of...
    During all the time I have been a loyal customer of Apple's products and services, these have been the only 2 issues that I really can't understand (specially when we look at Apple's strategies and management)...
    1) Not being able to DELETE (simply delete or deactivate) old or duplicated Apple IDs... I have 3 different Apple IDs but only one is the real Apple ID I use for everything, with all my purchases and services (such as e-mail) related to it (Why won't Apple jus let people delet, deactivate or - at least - merge Apple IDs?! That would help everyone, including Apple when we think about costs, storage, database maintenance, etc.) - Actually, even when I gave up on trying to delete other Apple IDs, I tried to have the one I really use and have organized to use my @me.com address as the Apple ID itself (as Apple asks us to do - and makes sense, of course). But never worked. Just because I created that Apple ID with a @hotmail.com account (since it asks for a valid e-mail when you create an Apple ID, it NEVER lets me now change my Apple ID to my @me.com e-mail address - I mean JUST having my @me.com e-mail address as my primary e-mail and my Apple ID (for example, having that old @hotmail.com e-mail address out of it, cleaned..)!
    2) The other issue was this one, about iDisk. Of course there must be reasons for having it shut down, maybe the apps used by iPhone and iPad, along with the folder on Mac OSX, is way too complicated, expensive, full of bugs, I don't know. But if we decide to pay for 50GB of online storage, why even THINK about different options for files we use?! I have Dropbox, I've read about Google Drive and Microsoft SkyDrive, etc. But I just wanted to STICK with a single ALL-APPLE solution.. That is.. Pay the annual fee for the 50GB and just still keep any file I want on the cloud with iDisk. So, what Apple tells me is that if I have other files than iWork or PDF (and some few exceptions), I should actually downgrade to "free" iCloud and decide to PAY for another solution (organization), such as DropBox, Google Disk or Drive (I don't really know), Micrsoft's SkyDrive..
    Of course there's the strategy of getting more and more people to use Pages, Numbers and Keynote (buying them for iOS and Mac OSX, as I already have and love them). But "killing" iDisk and just telling users to look for other storage solutions doesn't really sound like Apple.
    I have seen so many questions here about both issues (deleting or merging Apple IDS + iDisk back since we pay for storage) that I really believe Apple should reconsider these issues or, at least, open the issue and let us know what would be the best "partner solution" for iCloud...
