Transferring exe files across networks?

Hi,
I am developing a program to transfer any type of file from system to system.
I successfully did it for text(rtf,html,js...etc) files but its just not happening for exe files.
Am not able to do it for exe/application/setup files
For eg i transferred a goolgetalk setup file to another system. But on double clicking it, its not getting installed.
I mean that the file goes there, but it loses its function.
Kindly provide me with an insight into this..

The FileInputStream takes a file name as String or an instance of File, so that is what you should use when you read the file from disk. The end that is reading it from the network should use the new BufferedInputStream(socket.getInputStream())

Copying large amount of small files across network: Files are missing

On my iMac, i have a directory with 1440 small files (about 100k each). I select all of them, and drag them to a folder on my Mac Mini. The copy finishes quickly, but there are always a few files missing, somtimes 5, sometimes 15, or anything between.
When selecting half of the files, the same problem occurs. Even when I narrow the selection to 100 files, it occured once that only 99 of them were copied.
Both Macs run 10.5.2 and are connected through a Cisco gigabit switch.
I solved by zipping the files in 1 archive and transferring that, but of course that is hardly a worthy workaround. One of the most basic file operations, copying across a network, should work flawless in my opinion.
Do any of you have similar problems? Or perhaps a solution? This, together with the wireless and standby-problems on two MacBooks here, make me consider downgrading to Tiger for the time being.

That can be seen if you leave Activity Monitor open and watch the transfer rate over time (a method which Seagate tech support said was worthless because Activity Monitor was unreliable and GoFlex drives had no heat problem).
If that's what's wrong, there really isn't any solution except using the smaller chunks of data which you've found works.

Trouble sharing files across networked computers

I frequently have this problem when trying to copy files from my MBP at home to my PowerMac at work and vice versa. Regardless of how the connection between the two machines is made (smb, MobileMe), when I try to copy a file or folder, I get a message saying 'You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named "filename.xxx".'
I am the administrator for both machines, and I am logged in to both as the administrator when this message occurs.
At this point, I have buttons giving me the option to Stop or Continue. Clicking Continue brings up a message saying 'The item "filename.xxx" contains one or more items you do not have permission to read. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?'
Again I have the option to Stop or Continue. Clicking Continue gives me the message 'The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.' This message comes up even though I am logged in as the administrator on both machines and I have made sure that I've got read & write privileges for that file.
At this point, I'm stymied. This occurs whether I'm attempting to transfer a single file, a folder, or an archive. I've adjusted sharing preferences on both machines so that I specifically have full privileges for both the source and target folders as well as the file(s) being moved. Both machines are running OSX 10.5.8.

Hi Keven - just wanted to chime in that I can replicate this error on a nearly identically configured setup as yours, but like you, have no substantive response (yet) from Apple. In fact, my post disappeared. The only thing I see, perusing the forums, is that people are recommending Snow Leopard upgrade to solve numerous networking issues. I realize this is not a satisfactory answer. I will stay subscribed to your post and will let you know if Apple comes back to me with a good response as well.

ITunes Locking when Adding Files Across Network

I just made the switch from windows to Mac and I seem to be having issues with iTunes. My main computer used to be a PC and I just purchased a Macbook Air. I have a pretty large media library (1.5TB) and there was no way I could house that on the air so I repurposed my PC as a file server. I then created alias's to each media file on the PC (i.e. Video, Music (320), Music (ALAC), Pictures,eBooks, etc..).
I set the library in iTunes to be in the local music file on the mac and I also placed the alias's in the music file. I made sure to unflag the two "let itunes do everything" flags. I then started adding the alias's in one by one. Video (which is huge), Pictures, ALAC music all added with no fuss.. slow as .... but they worked. I then tried to add the music file containing MP3s. Not only did it creep, it locked up constantly. I had a beach ball almost constantly. I killed the add process and tried again.. same thing. I then rebooted both machines and the same thing. At this point I am thinking my files was corrupt so I loaded iTunes on the PC and had no issues adding the files.
I then reloaded iTunes on the mac. No good. Now when I say I was getting beach balls I really mean it. I have never in my long life of dealing with PCs ever seen something freeze up and lock completely so often. It is so bad it is crashing finder and I have to power it down. No I know that iTunes is not the best thing that Apple has ever made (trying to be nice) but this is silly.
Being persistant I decided to bypass the PC and I went and bought a Time Capsule. Now not only does it still crash the files that do work are added REALLY slowly (and accessed a a pitiful rate). Is the hard drive on the TC that slow?? Time Machine seems to work ok.
So here I am. I have files that I have confirmed are functional on two PCs using iTunes for windows and one of them is completely crashing my mac. I can not house this media on the air. 1.5TB will not fit in a 256GB drive for obvious reasons. There are no strange and funky files just plain old MP3s.
Does anyone have suggestion as to what I can do? I have to be honest.. at this point I am rather ******. It should not take two days to add MP3s. I am afraid my journey into the world of OS X is about to end. If I didn't have an iPad & iPhone I would use an alternative player but I do and I am stuck.

Yes, I am repling to my own thread The problem only lies with MP3s from a network drive on a mac (lion). This problem can't be duplicated on a windows machine which is sorta madding. I converted 500 tracks to AAC and the problem went away and I have never had an issue with ALAC. No, I am not going to convert 50k tracks to AAC.
I have been watching the system log as the MP3s import and I keep getting this error:

.exe files appearing on MAC in mixed network environment

I am working in a mixed PC/Mac network environment. Soon after plugging the MAC into the network, I started noticing '.exe' file appearing on my MAC.
Almost every folder on the HD now has a .exe file with the same name inside it. For example the Libray folder has a file called "Library.exe" in it now.
I have one folder on the MAC shared, and mapped as a network drive on a PC. The PC's anti-virus software keeps flagging a virus on the folder. However, I am running Intego's anti-virus on the MAC and it does not find anything.
Anyone have any ideas here?

Finally figured it out... PC Network volume (shared folder) had the W32.rontokbro@mm virus. EXE file appeared anytime the PC connected to the MAC. Reformatted the PC and deleted all of the EXE files from the MAC and now I have no troubles.

Try running it through WineSkin or CrossOver Mac, or installing Windows through VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop, VMware Fusion, Boot Camp, or similar software.

Why can't I copy a file across a network?

I am having a very peculiar problem copying a simple text file across a network. The problem occurs when I try to copy from a newly purchased and newly upgraded MacBook (13 inch aluminum 08) to a 2010 Mac mini.
When I try to copy from the MacBook to the mini, Document folder to Document folder, I get this message:
A new item named “filename” already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the one you’re moving?
If I click Replace, I get this message.
The operation can’t be completed because an item with the name “” already exists.
If I click Keep Both, the process begins to create thousands (yes thousands!) of numbered copy files with the same file name and zero contents.
Copying from the MacBook to a different Mac works normally.
The problem, I suppose, stems from the fact that I migrated my user account from the Mac mini to the MacBook. But, I’ve done that before without a problem, so what is happening?
I also suppose that the solution is to delete the migrated user account on the MacBook and create a new one, but that’s a nuisance.
Can anyone solve this puzzle?

Sorry I couldn't help. You mention copying a simple text file, then mention ~/Documents to ~/Documents, then finally mention migration assistant.
It's honestly not too clear what you're tyring to accomplish. Do you have mutliple user accounts now and you want to thin them down? Do you simply want to get your Documents from the mini to the new computer? I copy between Macs all the time (ML to Mavericks, Mavericks to Mavericks). The worst thing I've faced is the need to reset home permissions and ACLs.
Many of the guru's who frequent the Mavericks area also come here. I'm sure one of them can help. Good luck.

How to share files across my network from Belkin N

I have a belkin N+ router that you cant plug a USB hard drive or a flash drive into to share the files across the network. It shows my router as a device on the network but gives me the same error message every time I try to acess them. How can I set this up from my Mac, what do I need to to do?

I had the same problem. I was first getting an error on my PC about the library being created with a newer version of iTunes. I upgraded my PC to 8.1 and am now receiving the following error when trying to open up the shared library:
"The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (13005)."

Slow Accessing Files Across a Windows 2003 Server Network

We get the spinning ball when we access files across a Windows 2003 network with our Os 10.3.9 Macs.
It seems that the more files there are in the folder, the longer you see the ball, our Fonts folder can sometimes take up to 2 minutes before you can scroll to the bottom of the folder.
This happens after a computer restart or a program restart.
Does anyone know of a fix for this issue, as it is quite annoying?
Also note: This does not happen when accessing the same files through Os9 classic, even though the machines are running 10.3.9.
The network is all new cat 5 cables and this a relatively new Dell Power Connect 3324 switch connected to a very fast Dell Poweredge 2600 server.

I'm also running several Macs on a Windows Small Business Server (Windows Server 2003) and the only way I am able to pull up the files was to join each one of my Macs to the Windows Server's network domain. You have to do this through the Directory Utility in the Utilities folder. There is one draw back from what I can tell, and it's something that I need some help with. It seems that once a Mac (running Leopard) is joined to a Windows domain, it takes the log in process forever to finish. Logging into a Leopard Mac alone is pretty quick, but after joining the domain, logging into any of the Macs on the Windows domain takes over a minute. If anyone knows the answer to this one, I'm all ears.

Error:The specified network address is currently in use when exe file is run

I get this error(above) when i run my executable files.My exe file is in directly in c:\codes\application.exe. After this, i also like to know how do i enter the URL in a web browser to access this exe file. I have created and change the labview.ini file to application.ini and put it in the same directory as my exe file already.

What can I use to transfer file over network besides using ssh?
This is only for experimental purposes. I have used ssh before, by using command like this:
(time cat /run/shm/test/input/totalInput.tar | ssh username@ip-server "cat > /dev/null") 2>>/run/shm/test/p3_UC_ctime_tar.txt
or this, if I tried to compress a file and then transfer:
(time bzip2 -kfc1 /run/shm/test/input/totalInput.tar | ssh username@ip-server "cat > /dev/null") 2>>/run/shm/test/p3_ctime_tar.txt
However, I think ssh is killing my transfer speed. I am getting only 10-20Mbps.. Router should support over 200-300Mbps.
What can I use besides ssh? I was thinking about netcat, but what I don't like is that I have to open port on the other side for each new file transfer.

Well, what I am conserned with things like scp and ssh (I tried scp too) is encryption.
I just moved one file over to a server with scp, and I got about 2.1MB/s... which is about 16.8 Mbps..
I am using Linksys E900, which is wireless-N router. Connection exist between two computers only, nothing else is using that router. However, there is another wireless point outside of our room, which is used for public University network. I don't know how much of effect it would have on our set up.
Both computers have plenty of disk space. One computer (actually development board) uses sd-card for its OS and other disk space.
About 200-300Mbps.. is just something I saw on router's specs.

I am trying to connect a 32bit machine running Windows XP across the network to an HP 2200d Laserjet Series PLC 5 printer installed on a 64 bit machine running Windows 7 - The printer can be seen by the XP machine across the network but when I tried installing printer drivers I kept getting incorrect driver errors. (The HP printer had previously been connected directly. i.e., no network - to the XP machine before I bought the new computer and it worked fine.)
So I went to HP website and found two links on how to connect a 32 bit XP machine to the HP printer installed on 64 bit Windows 7, by setting up an x86 option on the host Windows 7 machine. These web pages are as follows:

Transfering catalog files from PC to Mac

Do I really need to use an external hard drive for this operation? I am transfering Elements 5 on PC to Elements 10 on Mac.
Ihave followed instructions on Adobe site and have upgraded to E10 on the PC with the trial version but could not see why it was necessary to use an external hard drive to transfer the E10 catalog from the PC to Mac. However, have tried using shared files across home network and also a memory stick but on both occasions I am told that the file is not a valid catalog file from which `I can restore. Do I really need to buy a external hard drive just to move a file!!?

Can not see cFP-2220 after creating an exe file

I am using a cFP-2220 with LabView 2011. I can see the cFP-2220 with Max, the program I created runs in my PC but the data from the cFP-2220 it is slow to up date.
I access the cFP-2220 thru the network terminal and a net card in my PC.
I have created an EXE file to run in the PC for that test stand as a stand along program. The program runs but it does not see the cFP-2220 or any of the data been collected. The test stand PC does have MAX install. When I run MAX in the stand PC it sees the cFP-2220 and can read the data from the modules the PC is wire to the cFP-2220 thru a net card.

Sorry for the delay to respond... I do have installed the minimun files that are available Field Piont 6.0.10 and LabView RT 11 is part of them.
I also using share variables. The program VI runs fine in my PC but when I create the exe file and deploy on the test stand it asks fot the location of the FPLV,dll and the NI_TGT.dll and it can not read or write to any of the DAQmx vi's.
I accidently remove one my FP-SG-140 from the list of inputs, I did put it back but I damage how the share variables weere working I am getting and error -1950679023 and it does not see any of my inputs.
I have another question how do I down load the variables to the cFP-2220 that is another erros that shows up when I installed other files into the cFP.
