Transferring iphone activation between computers.

Say I activate my iphone on a PC, then I get a new Mac and I want to transfer my activation to it. How would I do this? It says that if I set a password and I lose it, I should plug it into the computer the iphone was activated on. What if I got rid of that computer.
(this is a hypothetical scenario, I own neither an iphone or a Mac YET, but plan to purchase the former before the latter)

The activation is just what happens at the time when you first connect your iPhone and sign up for your account. After that, the iPhone is not tethered to any one computer, and nothing needs to be "transferred". You can connect it to, and sync it with, any PC or Mac that meets the system requirements.

  • Importing and sharing iPhone apps between computers. (legal?)

I have several computers. Is it legal to transfer iPhone apps between computers using thumb drives or SD memory cards?
    Thanks!

This shouldn't be a problem as long as you are using the same iTunes account with another computer.
The problem is in regards to iTunes content including apps - iTunes content can be synced or transferred to an iPhone from a single computer only.
If you try to sync your iPhone with iTunes content on another computer, the iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased first before the content will be re-transferred to your iPhone - even when using the same iTunes account, so I'm not sure what would be gained by doing this unless you want to start using another computer for syncing iTunes content with.

  • Transferring Itunes data between computers using an external hard drive.

I just bought a new laptop and an external hard drive. What is the best way to go about transfering all of my 1400 songs on Itunes from my old computer to my new laptop using the external hard drive? I have purchased some songs from Itunes but mostly they were not bought there. Thanks in advance.

The guide for using the iPod as a hard drive is a good starting point. Just skip on past the part about enabling the iPod as a hard drive and read from "Is all the music together?". Substitute "external hard drive" for "iPod" and the instructions are the same: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • Transfering iPhoto data between computers

I built a book on my work computer and decided i want to bring it home. I can do this in iWeb by taking the domain.sites file with me from computer to computer. what do I have to take with me to hop back and forth as I work on this photo book before publishing.
I'll also be combining my work Mac and Home mac which are both old into one laptop soon with Leopard and I'd like to continue working on some of these projects and not have to run 3 computers until the projects are done.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Yes, but it's not especially graceful.
In the Pictures Folder, make a duplicate of the iPhoto Library Folder (File -> Duplicate) Give it a distinctive name: The Book Library...
Then hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu, select 'Choose Library' and point iPhot at 'The Book Library'
The Book Library opens. Now remove any pics you don't want to share from that library: (put them in the iPhoto trash and go iPhoto Menu -> Empty trash).
Now you have 'The Book Library'. Copy it to your friend's Mac. He can open it with the same hold the option (or alt) key trick.
To revert to your full library, you can do the same: hold the option (or alt) key on launch.

  • Transferring KN files between computers

I have a MacPro desktop and a G5 laptop, both soon to have iWork '08. I wish to create the presentation on the MP and display it on the G5. How do I package the presentation and related files (such as QT movies) so that I can copy it onto the G5?
Also, do I have to have the presentation's particular theme installed on the G5? I am using a third-party theme from Brian Peat's company.

In the Advanced Options: settings in the Save dialog box, choose
*+Copy audio and movies into document+*
to copy audio and movie files into the document. If you'd also like to carry the theme graphics with you, choose
    *+Copy theme images into document+*
as well. Installing the third-party theme on both computers would probably mean smaller file sizes to port over, so that may be something to think about.

  • Transferring iTunes librarys between computers.

Hey I just got a new Macbook Pro and I transferred all my music and iTunes stuff to it, but when I transferred everything over all my song's playcounts were erased. I used My top 25 most played smart playlist a lot and now it's useless. All the information used to be on my mom's pc. Is there any way I could get that information off of that computer onto this one?

That's basically what I did. I used a external hard drive and just copied/paste the whole music folder from the pc to my new computer.
    Which "whole music folder"?
Was it \My Music\ folder which contains an iTunes folder or \iTunes music\ folder, which is in \My Music\iTunes\ folder?
The playcount is stored in the \My Music\iTunes\iTunes library.itl file.
Does the iTunes Music Library.xml file have anything to do with it?
iTunes creates this file only fro opther applications to access iTunes library.
Not sure if playcount is in this file but it can be imported into iTunes.
If you do import it, it will duplicate all your playlists.

  • Transferring iTunes rentals between computers?

I have several devices which could accept iTunes rentals - an iPhone, an Apple TV, and multiple computer systems. If I have a rental I downloaded on System A (the system the AppleTV is synced to), I can move the rental to the AppleTV with no problem. I have not tried it, but I am sure I can move the rental to the iPhone. However, System A is a desktop and I would like to move it to System B (a laptop) for when I am on the go. What's the solution here?

    Hi Colbat,
It's easy. The most recommended way is to transfer it first to your iPhone and then to your laptop.
The be sure your laptop is also authorized to play iTunes content using your account.
    Hope this helps!

  • Transfering iWeb files between computers

I bought a new iMac and used migration to move all my apps & files off my laptop. However, my iWeb files didn't transfer; I want to keep my site updated using my desktop machine.
Any suggestions how to transfer these files?

iWeb files don't transfer by themselves. You have to do it. Go to your old computer and get the file.

  • Transferring iWeb pages between computers

I have an iWeb application on my iMac with established pages... I have a new powerbook with iWeb and I would like to use the iWeb on this computer to publish to my established site. How do I import from my old computer to my new one??? THANKS!

    In ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb
you'll find a file named domain
copy that to your other computer (into the same named
    directory of course).
Thank you Mark, I will try this! For a friend I created some webpages in iWeb so she can update them herself (I made the rest of the site in an HTMLeditor). We tried sharing the files this weekend but it didn't work.
I will let you now the result in a day or two, thinking that would be nice information for anyone else who comes across the same problem.

  • Transferring preferences, etc, between computers?

I'm uninstalling my Creative Suite 4 from one PC (Windows XP Pro) and reinstalling it on another PC (Windows 7).  Is there a way to move all of my preferences (like my own keyboard shortcuts), etc., to my new computer?  Thanks for your input.

Alec, as far as I know shorcut sets are not saved as part of a workspace, but they are saved in a folder alongside in the same directory.
I think the path information for Graphic Squirrel may be easier to understand in Replace Your Preferences. There is no "roaming data folder" in XP (though the path listed in the KB article is otherwise correct).
There's not much point in moving clipboard scrap, or the other items in the C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version [#]\en_US\Caches folder other than the InDesign Saved Data file itself (and even that one is questionable) when moving to a new machine. The rest really aren't "preference" items and will get rebuilt when ID is launched.

  • Transferring a program between computers

I bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 and installed the program on my laptop, which crashed.  I have since lost the Installation CD and want to get the program on my new computer.  Is there a way to transfer the program to my desktop without the disk?

No. All Adobe programs must be properly installed or else the licensing system won't work (asmong other things) and the software remaions unusable. Consider upgrading or try this: ‘DDL’ Articles at ProDesignTools. If it doesn't work, then you will have to find some other place for the download with the usual risks...

  • Problem Transferring items between computers

Hi, I followed the instructions under Transferring items between computers, and the pc I tranferred to gives me an error message stating: "Document is not licensed for this device type." Both devices are HP with WIndows 7. The ebook opens just fine on one HP, but not on the second HP. How can I get it to open successfully on both computers? Thank you.

    Ken,
If you need to regularly transfer data then I'd set up an Ethernet connection to file share and then transfer (modern Macs have at least 100BaseT Ethernet (which is around 12MBps max).
If it's a irregular transfer you don't do often then using Firewire Target Disk Mode (theoretical 50MBps max) is probably easiest:
Connect the two Macs with a 6pin-to-6pin Firewire cable.
Restart the donor Mac which has the files on it and hold down the T key.
The hard disk of the donor Mac will appear on the second Mac.
    Transfer your files.
Drag the hard disk of the donor Mac to the Trash to unmount it.
Power down the donor Mac using the power button.
Other options include networking over Firewire (again about 50Mbps but some overheads for the protocols involved) or Airport (original approx 1MBps max, Extreme approx 6MBps max).
