Transferring songs that i added to itunes from my CD collection

A similar question was asked yesterday, but the answers posted didn't answer my question...
I am sharing my music library with my mom by puttings songs on her ipod from my music library...I then want her to able to tranfer them into her itunes....I authorized her computer and was able to transfer purchased songs, but was not able to transfer the songs that I put on her ipod that came from my CD collection (that are in my library). Can someone tell me how to do this?

For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • How can I copy songs with metadata (added in iTunes) from my PC to my new iMac?

I have iTunes 12.0.1 on my Windows PC. I'm about to get a new iMac (hooray!) and I'm beginning the process of transferring everything on my PC to my Mac. I've got all the documents, pictures, files, etc. covered, but now I have to make a copy of all of my music.
Most of the music in my iTunes library is not bought through the iTunes Store (I download most of my songs from the Internet). Then, after saving the downloaded song to my computer, I go into iTunes on my computer and add the song. I also add metadata like artist, album, genre, album artwork, etc. to the song in iTunes. What concerns me is that only the songs in iTunes have this metadata: the original downloaded files I saved onto my computer don't have any metadata.
I really don't want to have to go through the long and tedious process of adding artist/album names, genre, etc. to every single song in my iTunes library on my new iMac. How can I copy songs with metadata (added in iTunes) from my PC to my new iMac?
Thank you so much for any help!

Hello! I'd like to learn more about Home Sharing. To do this, would both my PC (which I hope to get rid of) and my new iMac need to be plugged in?
Also, after Home Sharing with the old PC is initiated, I understand that all my songs would appear on my iMac. Is there a way to copy all of these (with album artwork, name, artist, etc.) directly to the iMac's hard drive and then disconnect home sharing so I can get rid of my PC?
    Thank you!

You copy them from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The iphone is not a backup/storage device.

Are the ones from the CD's on iTunes? You may just have to sync them over to the phone.

    Hi, Mrs.Frankie57.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you want to delete a song from your iOS device on iOS 7, tap Songs, swipe the song from right to left, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

    Hello Pork Chop 2,
Congratulations on your new Mac!  It sounds like your purchased songs are not playing completely after you downloaded them.  I recommend to following steps for an issue like this:
    Symptoms
Occasionally, if a song purchased from the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC was not downloaded completely, the song may not play back fully. The song may abruptly stop during playback, and iTunes may start playing the next song in your library or playlist.
    Resolution
If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, try the following steps to resolve the issue:
Delete the purchased song that is exhibiting the problem from your iTunes library.
Click on the Purchased link in the iTunes Store to view your previously purchased music.
Download your previously purchased song from this list.

  • I opened my hard drive to open iTunes and it was not listed in my Hard Drive. How do I find it? I purchased songs that was on my iTunes application

I went on my imac to listen to some music and I could not find my iTunes Ap. anywhere.  It just is gone.  Is there anything I can do to get it back because I had several songs that I had previously purchased from iTunes?  I am a computer novice, sorry to say.  I would greatly appreciate if someone would help me solve this lost iTunes issued.
    Thanks,
    [email protected]

    Hi BJ,
You can try and search for it through spotlight, go to the little magnifying glass in the top right of your screen and type in itunes. If it is on your computer it will bring it up and anything else associated with it. If that does not work you may have to re-download it. After doing this than go to the store tab in the top menu bar. From here sign in to your apple ID. Once you do that click on iTunes store on the right list bar. On the right you will see a list of links, look for the link that says purchased and this will contain any previously purchased content. You will have to re-download it but at least you will still have it. After this I suggest going and buying a 500 GB external hard drive and using time machine to back up your computer. It is extrememly easy and will ensure you never lose any apps or content again, plus they are relatively cheap!
    Good Luck,
    Mike

  • How to get songs that are in "previous iTunes Libraries" folders ??

I am unable to play scores and scores of songs that were on my iTunes 4.9 playlists now that I have "upgraded" to 7.0 I have a strange icon to the left of the song on my song list and when I go to play the song I get a message that the song cannot be located. The following notes come from iTunes help (see below) and I am wondering if anyone else has lost music and if so.....are they really lost or just misplaced? I would hate to think Apple would insist on an upgrade to buy more iTunes if they are going to scrub away hundreds of your other songs.
    HELP PLEASE
Note: The library file name for versions of iTunes prior to 4.9 was "iTunes 4 Music Library" for Mac OS X and "iTunes 4 Music Library.itl" for Windows. After upgrading to iTunes 4.9 or later, the older library files are moved to a "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder.

If the strange icon you refer to is an exclamation point, the problem is that the song files are not in the location the iTunes Library files are saying they are.
Note that the iTunes Library files do not contain the actual song files but rather a list of references that point iTunes to where the songs are (or rather should be) located.
So the first thing I'd do is find out just where the files are on your computer. Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base for some ideas on how to do so.
Post back and let us know if you're able to find the song files.

  • I have a classic iPod with songs that were put on it from a different computer. If I plug it up to my computer, will it keep the songs that were originally on it from the previous computer AND allow me to put new songs on it from my computer?

No.  Your iPod is designed to sync with one computer/iTunes library at a time. If you try to sync it with a new computer/iTunes library, the contents currently on the iPod will be erased and replaced with content from the new library.  So you'll want to copy what is currently on the iPod over to your new iTunes library first before syncing it.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.
