Transformation of german characters using xsl

Hi,
I have an xml which contains german characters .. i apply an xsl on the xml to get an html output using xalan. and the german character is converted to "?". When i try converting this using a stand alone java client class it successfully transforms it and am able to see the german character but when the same code is deployed within the application server all the german characters are converted to "?" on the browser. can anyone help me out on this ? i am using an oracle application server (OC4J)
Pointers on how to move ahead for solving the issue would be real helpful.
Thanks in advance,

I'm doing this, and my XSL files include other XSLs. Here's the line of code I use:Templates t =
factory.newTemplates(new StreamSource(new File(getServletContext().getRealPath(xslFile))));where the String variable xslFile contains something like "Callers.xsl" and my Callers.xsl file is in the web application root. I don't doubt it would work just as well creating a Transformer.

You need to use the correct and the same character encoding (charset) thorough the complete process.
Whenever you get question marks, then it means that the charset used does not recognize the bytes (which on its turn are apparently encoded by a different charset).
This is an important read, read it from top to bottom, preferably twice: [http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/Unicode.html].

• Transform LiveCycle form xml output using xsl

I've completed my first form but now want to format the xml that's generated.
Whilst I work for a big Company, I don't think they'll stretch to purchasing the Reader Extensions Module so I can output as PDF. Also there will be more than 500 users completing the form, so I can't just extend the rights using Adobe Acrobat.
Therefore, I'd like to transform the xml created using xsl (as I have knowledge in this area) - I'd like the transformation to occur when the form is submitted via email so that a 'friendly' attachment is added to the email and not the xml output.
Any ideas on this one?

First thing is, the fonts did not work in my system.. So I can not really understand where the email address fields are..
Few things:
1) You have used an Email submit button and tried to place the code in the MouseDown event.
You need to change this button to "Regular Type Button". and place the code in the Click event to work.
2) I placed a sample button and put in my code for your reference.. This is working fine..You can check the below sample.
https://acrobat.com/#d=tQa4E*8aA*mJq6aijSHuDQ
3) You can do the same way for your form..
4) If you have Acrobat software, you can enable JavaScript debugger which can give you the specific error message rather than Submit cancelled. If you do not, then you need to put some messageBox statements and check..

• Unique encoding transformation using XSL

i know that when u use xsl to trnsform XML, the standart say it support UTF-8/16
for example in hebrew there are encoding that are not included in UTF-8/16.
is there any option that during the prosses of transformation, the XSL will know whats the local encoding the system it works on and transform by it.
tank's
d'

XSL is specified at a model above the character encoding layer, so it shouldn't matter what the input encoding is.
<xsl:output encoding="whatever"/> should do you for encoding the output.
It's unlikely that there are Hebrew characters that cannot be encoded in UTF-8; if they are, they are not Unicode, and so cannot be represented in any XML. Check that you're encoding the input document properly.

• ENTITIES and transforming XML to XML/HTML using XSL

I am going absolutely nuts. When using XSL to transform an XML
file to HTML or another XML schema, critical entities dissappear.
For example:
<oldtag>press "any" key</oldtag>
will get rendered to
<newtag>press "any" key</newtag>
by the XML/XSL parser, which is not valid HTML or XML.
How do I preserve these entities through the transformation
process. Escaping the text (in the XML source) with ]]
is not possible in this case.--Michael
null

Assuming you can't use a CDATA in the DTD to prevent parsing,
then my suggestion would be to use the XSL stylesheet to restore
the entities as there is no way that I am aware of that will set
conditional expansion.

• Creating an XML From a Deep Structure using XSL Transformation

Hi ABAPers,
I have a requirement to use XSL Transformations on an ABAP deep type structure.
Currently i have an API that fills in this deep structure and by using CALL TRANSFORMATION ID.... i will get the BIG XML having having 100s of nodes . But actualy form the deep structure i need only some NODES (say 50)... So i tried writing an XSLT
in the transaction STRANS.. but on using this TRANSFORMATION which i wrote i am getting an error messgae like INVALID XML...
Am i going in right track or is there a good solution...
My sample transformation is as below...
<xsl:transform version="1.0"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
<xsl:strip-space elements="*"/>
<xsl:template match="/">

Please help me in solving this issue....
Thanks,
Linda.

Hi Linda,
I am replying based on your sample code.
Try the below following suggestions.
here 'GRPHDR' is the node where I am selecting the data.
IGRPHDR is the name of the reference.
First calling the transformation in you program.
TYPES: BEGIN OF tl_hdr,
msgid(20)    TYPE c,
END OF tl_hdr.
DATA : t_hdr TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF tl_hdr.
GET REFERENCE OF t_hdr INTO l_result_xml-value.
l_result_xml-name = 'IGRPHDR'.
APPEND l_result_xml TO t_result_xml.
TRY.
CALL TRANSFORMATION yfi_xml_read
SOURCE XML it_xml_data
RESULT (t_result_xml).
CATCH cx_root INTO l_rif_ex.
l_var_text = l_rif_ex->get_text( ).
l_bapiret-type = 'E'.
l_bapiret-message = l_var_text.
APPEND l_bapiret TO errormsgs.
EXIT.
ENDTRY.
in XSL transformation
First write a block of statement to specify from which node you are taking the data.
No matter it is a node or sub-node.
<xsl:transform xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0">
<xsl:output encoding="iso-8859-1" indent="yes" method="xml" version="1.0"/>
<xsl:strip-space elements="*"/>
<xsl:template match="/">
<asx:abap xmlns:asx="http://www.sap.com/abapxml" version="1.0">
<asx:values>
<IGRPHDR> " reference name of internal table
<xsl:apply-templates select="//GrpHdr"/>
</IGRPHDR>
</asx:values>
</asx:abap>
</xsl:template>
Next select the data from the nodes under the nodes specified in the transformation.
here msgid is the field i am selecting for value.
<xsl:template match="GrpHdr">

<MSGID> " field in the internal table t_hdr where data has to go
<xsl:value-of select="MsgId"/>
</MSGID>

</xsl:template>
reply back if further clarification is needed.

Looks like you might not have imported the xsl within the project. When you import the files from outside your project you have to have "Add to project" checked.
Check if you see the xsl file within the project folder.

• Problems showing german special characters using DB2 jdbc driver

Hi JDBC gurus,
In my application the special german characters(umlauts...) are not shown correctly when I'm using IBM jdbc driver(type 2). When I switch to jdbcodbc driver everything is correct. So is there any trick, some connection parameter, some property or something like this? Something like "setCharset" or "umlauts" or something? I could not find anything in web :-(
It is also hard to imagine that nobody has faced this problem. Or it is very trivial...
The second problem:
I have downloaded a new driver (com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Driver) but when I try to connect with DB I'm getting
com.ibm.db2.jcc.b.SqlException: No license present. What does it mean - no license? I'm going to clear with our DB admin if the reason can be that I have no rights to connect directly with DB without having client installed locally on my PC. This is only what comes to my mind.
Environment:
DB: DB2 7.x
Web-Server: Tomcat 5.x
Hibernate 3.1.x

Actually the problem is ONLY symbol - scharfes S. Other umlauts are shown correctly...
What is wrong with that symbol????
Many thanks in advance,

• Unable to load German characters in NON Unicode Essbase Cube

Hi Guys,
This is what we want to do:
Build a Cube for Germany on our Essbase server in US. Our users will access cube using Excel Add-In from Germany. But since the Essbase server is in US, system environment variable ESSLANG is set to English_UnitedStates.Latin1@Binary.
The version of Essbase we are using is 7.1.3.
What we tried & failed:
To load German characters from our dimension build Text file, we added a header: //ESS_LOCALE German_Germany.Latin1@Default
at the beginning of the dim build Text file hoping the rule file will understand that the file contains German characters & load it correctly. Then using EAS I load the dimensions using its corresponding rule file.
Essbase loads the dimensions correctly, with NO Error, but when it encounters German characters it Replaces it with a Question Mark "?"
Some of the German characters are:ß Ü ü Ö ö Ä ä Å Ä Ö
Lastly, the reason we do not want to build Unicode cube is because Excel Add-In will not work with Unicode cubes.
Its urgent. Please help.
Thanks.

The simple and easy way to check
non-unicode character sets are not supported on unicode system any longer. Am I right?
Transaction code i18N
Select
trouble shooting --> printing test --> smartforms --> multiple scripts, select your output device and see print preview. it will display all supported characters.
I guess, above information will be useful for closing the thread.

• How to use xsl document() function with LiveCycle XSLT processor

Hello,
I would like to use LiveCycle XSLT processor to merge xml documents by using the xsl document() function.
However, I have not, yet, found clear reference information on the specifics of how to accomplish in LC. For instance if you have
a transformation that does merging using a standalone xml editor (such as Oxygen), than what is required to accomplish the same
using the LiveCycle XSLT service. How do you specify the URI of the XML document that is specified as an input in the xsl document() function. Your insight is appreciated. Regards

Hello Steve,
I checked the reference that you cited (XSLT Transformation). The reference omits discussing how to use xlst document() function within a stylesheet. I think that probably means that feature of xslt technology is not directly available through LiveCycle. When I find a workaround, I'll post an update...for the user community that might encounter the same issue. Thank you for your response and insight. Regards, jb1809

Hi,
I have a dynamic form (.xdp), an .xml data file binded to it, we need to make many manupulations to the text (the below xml does not have much text to show but that is our purpose)(i.e) to show partial bolds in some sentences etc, we figured out that this is not possible to manipulate the text in XML , so we thought of using XSL to overcome, but here comes the real problem,
i am starting it with real basic xsl-- used The option Trnsforming Incomimg data, but when i try to preview the .pdf from the designer it throws
XSLT parsing error 1011: Parsing Error (1011):
systemID:  'file:///C:/Users/c-sds/Desktop/ALC/'
publicID:  ''
line:
column:    !
Form version is higher than target version. This form may not run properly on target.

Your PL/SQL code doesn't produce a valid XML document.
In the XML grammar, "&" is a special character and must be escaped using the character entity "&".
If you were using standard methods to build XML from Oracle (SQL/XML functions for instance), I'm sure you wouldn't have this error.
Please show us the PL/SQL code you're using to produce this XML output and we'll be able to help you further.

• Problems faced when using xsl:include and extension functions

I am Working in XML and XSLT using Oracle's XML Parser V2.
Previously i had worked in Microsoft technology using MSXMLParser.
I am facing some problems in XSLT. They are as below...
1. Using <xsl-include href="Somexsl.xsl">
the oraclexmlparser processor is giving the error : XSL-1002: Error while processing include XSL file (no protocol: Submenu.xsl).
* Can u tell me why i am getting this error, and what is the fix for this.
The same case with <xsl:import> too.
2. In case i have to write some functions in the previous WD of xsl i used these statements

<xsl:stylesheet
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-xsl"
xmlns:html="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"
result-ns="">
<xsl:script xmlns:xsl="uri:xsl">
var strWebContentPath = "/SurSITE/Content/";
var strWebImagePath = "/SurSITE/sursitegraphics/";
function IncScript()
return "";

</xsl:script>
To call the function i used this
<xsl:eval no-entities='true'> IncScript();</xsl:eval>
* Can u tell me how do i do this now, i tried with the code above using the current name space (<xsl:stylesheet version="1.1"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" />)
Please use the example given above.
I will be very greatfull to u if u can give me some suggestion or help for the above said problems.
Thanking you and eagerly waiting for your reply(s).

The current version is "1.0" not "1.1"
You haven't included the code for what your <xsl:include>
statement looks like, which seems to be what it's complaining
about...
XSLT 1.0 has no <xsl:eval>, this is a microsoft specific tag
from a pre-XSLT-1.0 version.
XSLT 1.0 has no <xsl:script> element either.
