Transmitting more than 8 bits in labview through serial communication

hello,
i am working on communication through microcontroller and labview. My data is greater than 8bit. Can anyone may please help me in suggesting how to do it. Also i am interested in getting the real time images of the front pannel during the run time.
Thanks

You're going to have to split up your data among multiple bytes.  If you are sending 16 bit data, send it as two bytes.  32 bit data, four bytes.
Look at split and join numbers VI's and also typecasting.
You'll have to provide a little more description about what you mean by "real-time images of the front panel".

  • ORA-01776: cannot modify more than one base table through a join view

I have created EO based on a database view than consists of two tables, and only one is updateable.
When I try to update a row using EO, I got a following message: "ORA-01776-cannot modify more than one base table through a join view"
In Forms, this issue is resolved by setting "Query Only" property of non-updateable items to "True".
Is it possible to do something like that in ADF BC?
    Thanks

    Thanks for answer.
When I set "updateable" property to "Never", that attribute is protected from any change.
    I'm sorry for incomplete usecase.
I have set up a list of value on that attribute, because it is a lookup field for another table and I need to get an ID from that table.
Basically, I need that attribute to be updateble for BC, but not for database.

  • Cannot modify more than one base table through a join view

hi guys, my current problem is that i have a datablock based on a view, now all the fields bar 1 are updateable, but this one field that is obtained through a join is displayed, the user can enter data in this field which then pupulates other fields which are required, but this specific field should not be updated. Is there an option to state this as i keep getting the error:
cannot modify more than one base table through a join view
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

the user can enter data in this field which then pupulates other fields So, using the value of "this field" you then query the rest of the fields? Can you show us the code you use to populate the rest of the fields?
but this specific field should not be updatedHave you tried setting the "Query Only" property of the field to "Yes" and the other DML properties (Ins, Upd, Del) to No?
Also, what is your Forms version?
    Thanks,
    Craig B-)

  • How to upload a file which has more than 999 line item  through BDC ?

    Hello Techards
    Hi to all
Can any body tell me how to upload a file which has more than 999 line item  through BDC for traction F-02 ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Shovan

    Hello Shovan,
You split it up to post two accounting documents with the help of a "suspense" a/c.
Say, you have to post the following line items below:
    line 1 - dr. - GL a/c X - $1000
    line 2 - cr. - GL a/c Y - $1
    line 3 - cr. - GL a/c Y - $1
    line 1001 - cr. - GL a/c Y - $1
You cannot post the above as a single doc in SAP (because of technical reasons), so you need to break it up into 2 documents as below:
    Doc1
    line 1 - dr - GL a/c X - $1000
    line 2 - cr - GL a/c Y - $1
    line 3 - cr - GL a/c Y - $1
    line 998 - cr - GL a/c Y - $1
    line 999 - cr - SUSPENSE a/c - $3
    Doc2
    line 1 - dr - SUSPENSE a/c - $3
    line 2 - cr - GL a/c Y - $3
Note that there is no incorrect impact on accounting as first we credit suspense a/c by $3 and next we debit the same suspense a/c by $3 as a result the effect is nil. Similarly, we credit $997 to GL a/c Y (which is less by $3) in the first doc which is compensated by the second doc by crediting the shortfall of $3.
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,
    Sougata.

  • Reading controller data into LabVIEW through serial connections to controllers?

I'd like to read data from environmental chamber controllers (System Plus) into LabVIEW through RS232 connections.  Has anyone done something similar?
I see interfacing with the serial controllers as the biggest obstacle and although not directly related to LabVIEW programming, I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice or resources on how best to do so now days.
My first thought is to write a program with VB or C++ to act as a terminal and write the data to a text file for LabVIEW to poll.  Aside from using Telix decades ago to work with BBSes, my only other serial experience consists of interfacing with a Kiethly multimeter using a C++ program.
I would rather not use multiple PCs but I have never worked with more than one serial port on a computer before in the past.  Perhaps LabVIEW itself already provides for multiple serial card communications (wouldn't that be perfect)?
    Any info would be great.
    Regards,
    Dave

    Thanks Dennis.
I spoke with Envirotronics and they do not provide the driver for the System Plus controller any longer since there were issues with changing hardware and software.  Their IT department may be able to put something together for me.
Using USB->RS232 connections would be nice given the abundant number of USB ports available on modern PCs.
Without a driver I see parsing the serial text as a challenge in LabVIEW.  I know how to approach this with a traditional programming language but are there any examples around here of how this is done with LV (most recent version is fine)?

  • Arduino due and Labview wirelss serial communication using Xbee

    Hello.
I am controlling a mobile robot using the Arduino due and labview
PWM value caculated on the labview is sent to Arduino due and then Due controls the robot.
    These communicate wirelessly by xbee.
Now, I'd like to increase the communication speed between Arduino due and Labview.
but, when i set the value of the "Wait(ms)" function to below 10ms  in Labview, communication has unstability.
so please let me know how increase the communication speed.

Since the only thing that changed is the Launchpad, then that must be the issue.  Are you sure this device can handle more than just the 9600 baud rate?  Are you sure you are even setting the baud rate on this device?

  • User-specified DAQ interruptions, instrument control through serial communication

I'm working on an instrument control program, and I've run into a structural problem that I cannot figure out.
The instrument in question is effectively a thermostat.
    The program has two functions:
1.)  Background sampling to record temperature in a log over time.
2.)  Adjust temperature according to user input
The issue is that the instrument uses EIA-232 serial communication to talk to the PC.
This prohibits simultaneous execution.  Attempting to send a command while the program is taking a sample will result in serial blockage errors.
So the program must interrupt background sampling until the specified command has been completed.
I can't figure out how to do this.
My best idea was to create a manual pause control.  If the user wants to adjust the temperature, he hits a switch to pause the sampling, sends the appropriate command, then hits the switch again to reinitiate sampling.  This method will suffice, but is not ideal.
Beyond that, I really have no idea how to prevent the two functions from running into each other.
Help structuring this program would be greatly appreciated,
    Thank you

Look into Semaphores (icons with traffic light glyphs)
Set up a Semaphore resource to the COM port that is wired to two parallel structures.
One structure would do the background polling, the other would handle setting changes.
Prior to background poll, lock the resource, then unlock it after the poll. Likewise for the setting change command.
When a resource is locked, the other process cannot access it until it is unlocked. Be sure to dispose of the Semaphore when ending the program.

  • Help with reading information coming from a software into LabVIEW through Serial port

    Hi,
I am new to LabVIEW and also an amateur in using RS232 for communication. I have this software that has these icons like speed increase/decrease, elevation up/down, start/stop. Now, when I click these buttons on the software, they perform the appropriate functions. For example, if I press start button, the signal must go through a serial COM port into LabVIEW to start the machine. How do I do that? How do I find what format the code word is when I press a button on the software? And how to decode the information to read whether the button pushed is start etc...? Any help would be appreciated.

I may not be perfect, but I'm all I got!

That information would be in the programming manual for the device you're controlling. Unless you have a device that has no documentation or you cannot get the documentation that's the first place you should look. If you cannot get the documentation at all then you've got some reverse-engineering to do. To do this you will either need a serial port sniffer (a hardware device), or you can try to use a software-based port capturing program. On Windows PortMon is the most prevalent. This will show you how the port was configured (baud rate, stop bits, etc). Warning: the information is technical.
As far as how to get it running in LabVIEW, you should take a look at the serial port communication examples that ship with LabVIEW. The most problems occur in figuring out how to (a) terminate a write command, and (b) determining when to stop reading. For (a) this is typically done by appending a carriage return or linefeed to the command. This is device dependent. For (b) this is usually done by the byte stream ending with a character like a linefeed. Again, this is device-dependent.
You may also want to peruse this KB article: Serial Instrument Control Tutorial. There are also lots of tutorial on the internet for basic tutorials on serial port communication.

  • How to send more than one request parameter through a submit button?

    Hi,
I want to send two request parameters from the JSP page to the Struts application via following tag:
    <html-el:submit property="event" value="Assign"/>
This piece of code sends only one request parameter to the backend application: The name of the request parameter is "event" and the value is "Assign".
However I want to send one more request parameter with each button click. How can I do this?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

One thing u can do is add a hidden field and set value into it. When u submit the form this value also will be available in the request object. use request.getParameter("name") to get the value.

  • Residual payment should not allow more than Vendor Invoice

    Hi,

To  Vendor Dr 02    INR  Excess than invoice
Business requirement is system should not allow pay more than invoice amount. How to control suggestion would be appreciated.
I have done below settings for your understanding here system configuration.
    1. OBA3: Under "Permitted Payment difference" zero for Gain , Loss , Amount, Percent & Adjust Discount By  However "Permitted Payment Differences for Automatic write-Off(Function code AD)" zero.
    2. OBA4: Cash discount per line item: Zero and Under "Permitted Payment difference" Revenues, Expense, Percent & Cash discount  put Zero.
    Regards,
    Babu.

    Hi Prashant,
I have restricted many fields to use through screen variant now user can not pay more than Invoice amount except through Residual payment process.
Client side management strongly says that they want to use Partial and Residual payment process options but user should not allow pay more than invoice amount.
If any solution please guide me.

  • Communication through serial

    hi everyone,
My name is Zhi and I have another problem with on my senior project. Right now, we are trying to make labview communicate with an old stage. Its model is Neat_310M ( I have its manual uploaded). I have beening trying to make an simple communiation like wake up x-axis stage and ask it to move relative 10000 steps. However, I can only sucessfully do these two actions in hyper-terminal. When I used the VI i have set up, the stage  does not responding at all.
my concern is that I did not open the serial port properly because while I continuely run the VI, I can still open and run  the hyperterminal together. (i believe two programs cannot share the port at the same time).
my other concer is that  since the stage controller echo back whatever command i type , for example,  I want to ask stage to move relatives  10000 steps, when I type the command, "mr",  then the controller will echo back "move relative". After it is echo, I enter the number and the stage moves.  I obeserved this kind of respond in hyperterminal.  I am wanderin if this kind of responds will cause the problem that i have.
    thanks

    Hi zhoa.lin,
Yes, after you use Serial Write to send a command, you have to use Serial Read to read anything that is being returned.  You should use "Bytes At Serial Port" to find out how many bytes to read.  And use a string indicator to show what was read.
Remember to close (or hang up) Hyperterminal before running LabVIEW's serial communication.
