Travelling with iphone to Germany

hello all, i am travelling to Germany (i do this twice a year) to visit parents. i have a 4s but i do have a 5C as a present for Christmas! i always have trouble hunting for a wall plug to charge phone. Are there any other ways to keep the charge for at least 5 hours? Man-Fra. i will try not to use Wifi but i cant guarantee i may need it. i hope this gets easier with the 5c.... thanks

There are a number of battery cases and other external battery charging solutions out there. Mophie is one of the major suppliers in this. I'm curious though, what does the use of Wi-Fi have to do with battery life? The Wi-Fi only functions if the device is using a network and uses hardly any battery when not in use. I leave mine on all the time. I'm guessing that you would not be using the phone for calls/texts/etc. If that is the case, then turn on Airplane Mode, which turns off the Wi-Fi as well as cellular.

  • Traveling with iphone 4S to USA

    Hi,
I will be traveling to the USA from Australia and will be in New York and Miami for 6 weeks. I have an iPhone 4S which is under contract through October with Vodafone. I have come across some conflicting information here in Australia in regards to traveling with an iPhone.
In the USA, I primarily want to use the phone for data and local phone calls in the US. I will not need to make calls to Australia.
Will I need to jailbreak my iPhone and purchase a prepaid sim from one of the providers in the US? Will I be able to get a sim at the airport?
Are the SIM cards the same size?
Are there any other updates that would need to made - I.e. change carrier settings etc?
    Thanks

You will have to get your phone unlocked from Vodafone, do not jailbreak it!!!! We have an Australian resident here in Austria also with a Vodafone unlocked iPhone 5, so it can be done.
The two American providers that use SIM Cards are At&t and T-mobile, and yes, SIM cards are a standard size all over the world, I'm an American in Europe, it's not dodgy at all.
Just a warning, America is not quite as  friendly/options available for prepaid services for users that need alot of data. However, take a look at GoRedPocket, Dataroam, or 0044.co.uk if you need a bit more data than what's offered.
Also, NYC is known for high tower congestion in some areas. If your phone just randomly stops working, just be paitent and wait to see if your phone can reach another cell. The metro has no cell service, just in a few of the bigger stations.
For buying SIMs at the airport, I really have no idea, I would assume so, but I  don't fly much.
For updating APN's and whatnot, the provider should tell you any configuration needed.

  • Traveling with iPhone 5c

Is the iPhone 5c rated for 120 and 240 volt? I am traveling to Iceland and bought and adapter plug but wondering if I need a converter as well.

If you are using the Apple supplied charger, you will simply need a plug adapter. The Apple chargers are rated for 100-240 volts @ 50-60hZ.

  • Traveling with iPhone...

I have a US iPhone and will be traveling to the UK in May. Will my iPhone work over there???? What do I need to do to ensure this?
    Thanks so much in advance!

Yes, it will work. You'd need to contact AT&T and have them activate international roaming on your account before you go. You should plan to either leave Data Roaming set to OFF (Settings > General > Network), or sign up for an international data roaming plan - if you don't, it will get expensive (that's an understatement - people have reported charges into the thousands of dollars).
On the physical side, your iPhone's AC adapter runs on 100-240 V and 50/60 Hz, so all you'll need is a plug adapter to connect it to the outlets in the UK. Pick one up at Radio Shack.

  • Traveling with iPhone- Avoiding huge bills?

Hey, any ideas what I need to do in order to avoid huge bills...I know you can turn off 'data roaming' but is that gonna do the trick? I will want to have my phone on with mobile reception and utilize wifi to check emails/facebook etc. Are any of the apps installed going to get me with charges...bit concerned that's all!
    Cheers

I am having the same problem here, I don't wanna risk high charges but still want to use free wi fi in hotel etc.
Looking at different forums, I can see that this is a major problem, even with data roaming turned off people are still getting high charges.
One guy I saw, got a bill for £500 when he was abroad with phone, he said it didn't ring once and he didn't send any texts or MMS (can cause high charge)
That's put me off even bringing my phone. Until this issue has a gospel fix, I would advise leaving the phone off the whole time or don't even bring it, it's far too risky at mo in my opinion even with data turned off and push off etc etc. Also, visual voicemail must be turned off as this also carries high charges when abroad.
Can anyone prove me wrong on this?

  • Hey Guys I Travel to the States and I am from Germany. I want to buy an iPhone 4S 8GB white Version unlocked GSM. Can I use the iPhone in Germany with every SIM Card?

Hey Guys I Travel to the States and I am from Germany. I want to buy an iPhone 4S 8GB white Version unlocked GSM. Can I use the iPhone in Germany with every SIM Card?

As long as you buy from an Apple retail Store (Apple owned ) an unlocked iPhone 4S it will work on GSM services worldwide
    from Apple.com
If you buy a SIM-free iPhone, you will need to purchase a GSM-compatible micro-SIM separately. When you travel internationally, you can use a micro-SIM card for iPhone 4s from a local GSM carrier.
The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.
However the warranty will NOT be valid outside the US .If you need warranty or post warranty service you will have to return the iPhone to the US in person ( cannot mail in to US )

  • Operating iphone in germany with a german (Vodafone) sim card ?

hi there please let me know if i could operate the iphone in germany with a vodafone sim card

Unfortunately, that will not work. if a U.S. customer travels to Germany (like I did last year and will again next year) then they have to activate international calling, which is easy to do, and pay roaming charges. I believe when I took my Razr with me last year the roaming charge were $1.55 a minute (U.S.).
The question you asked has been asked many times before in the old Pre release iPhone forum. The way that Apple and ATT have tied activation to iTunes and the SIM card tied in with the firmware on the phone prevents other SIM cards from working right now.
It would probably be to your advantage to wait until the European release of the iPhone and see how they handle SIM issues there. European phone activation and use is a lot different then in the U.S, some would argue that it is better, and so what marketing techniques work here, may not apply in Germany or other countries.
Hope this helps answer your questions.

  • HT4341 I will be traveling to The Netherlands, Germany and Luxembourg in May. I want to take my MacBook Pro, 1st generation iPad and iPhone 4G. Is there one charger that I can take for all devices, as opposed to taking three different chargers?

I live in the US, and I will be traveling to The Netherlands, Germany and Luxembourg in May. I will be taking my MacBook Pro, 1st generation iPad and iPhone 4G. Is there a universal charger that I can use with all three devices, as opposed to taking three seperate chargers?

I obviously have three different chargers, I guess my question is, can I use just one of those chargers for all three devices, and if so, which one of the three, or does it matter? And if I can in fact use just one of the three, then why would I need all three in the US? Also, if one of the three will work on all devices, would the automotive charger work the same, one for all? Thank you for your reply.

Thanks for your help.  Since I'm uninterested in loading all my photos (the only option) into photostream, I won't be able to use the settings in ATV.  I guess I'm just stuck with using iPhoto on my MB Air.  Thanks again.

  • Traveling with 2nd mac; need to sync iphone

I sync my iphone 3G to my imac 21" at home. I'm traveling with a MacBookPro. I purchased a movie on itunes to watch on my iphone on the plane flight home.
Is there a way to sync a single movie to my iphone without erasing everything currently on my iphone?
    Thanks.

    No.
The iphone will sync pics and itunes content from one computer at a time.
When you sync to another it will first erase the itunes content from the iphone, then replace with content from the new computer.

  • If I use Verizon Edge with Iphone 6, Can i just buy SIM when i travel outside the USA?

    Hi,
I plan to switch to Verizon Egde with Iphone 6, but i just want to make sure if i can buy SIM to use with it when i travel outside the USA? Do i need to unlock the phone?
    thanks.

i chatted with the rep, and i was told that unless iphone 6 paid off ( i was asking about Verizon Edge), the phone is Locked! And if i have to use it outside the USA, i have to call the the customer care..not sure what for.
I just want a phone and put new SIM in to use. No more, no less. I think Verizon makes thing more complicated for the customers (i've been with Verizon since 2005).
If thing is so complicated, i'd better look for another solution then.

  • Travel to Europe with iPhone 6

We are traveling to Europe (France and Italy) with iPhone 6.
    1) How do we set our phones to avoid roaming and other charges BUT allow still wireless?  (I'm assuming wireless would not cause any additional charges)
    2) Any good wireless apps that would allow us to stay connected with family and friends via wireless service?
    Thanks!

As soon as you take off, put the phone in airplane mode.  When you land, keep airplane mode in, bit only turn on wifi.
THere eyre are many apps to stay in touch such as Skype, google voice and hangouts, what's app. Etc. verizon message + will allow you to send and receive text messages over wifi with no international charges.

  • How to create adhoc Wifi Hotspot with iPhone to connect Apple TV for Mirroring and Airplay?

I don't want to use my iPhone to share or tether my iPad or laptop etc. with my cellular data plan.
What I want is to create a hotspot with my iPhone (or iPad) so that I may connect my Apple TV to the adhoc network so I am able to stream video and music from my iPhone to the Apple TV.
I do presentations in front of live audiences and want the ability to mirror my iPad or use Airplay to stream video and photos to the Apple TV without connecting to a public WiFi network.
The apple TV is so small, I just tuck it into my bag with an HDMI cable and I am able to tap into LCD projectors and flat screens and use keynote or video from my iPad so my audiences can see my presentations.
Seems pretty simple. But I cannot activate a hot spot on my iPhone without signing up for AT&T's service. Fact is, I have no need to tether my iPhone or iPad, I just want to create an adhoc Wifi network solely for the use of my Apple TV.
I posted this question to the iPhone discussions as well, but thought someone here has wanted to do the same thing.
Someone suggested just bringing any WiFi router and connecting devices to that. But that's not a solution. It's about mobility and simplicity and not creating a larger footprint.
    Thoughts?

I am a presenter and I do what you want to do.  I use an apple tv as the presentation device that connects to the projector. The thing that makes it all work together is the Apple Airport Express $99 and looks just like the APple TV but white:  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC414LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA0Mg
Basically you define a wireless network ahead of time (using your iPad or iPhone and the Airport Config App) and let your iDevices connect to it and know the details ahead of time (so they will auto connect later).
You have a couple of options of connecting the airport express to the apple tv.  I basically stacked them and used an ethernet cable but you can define the wireless connection also.  I then strapped them to the projector (which I travel with) and used an HDMI cable from the apple TV to the projector.
Sometimes I present from my iPad...sometimes I present from my iPhone.  Sometimes I present from my iPad but use the remote app on the iPhone to see the next screen.  Now with Mountain Lion you could even present with a Macbook Pro (not needed though)
Wanna hear the coolest thing?  When I want to demo something on the iPad instead of just showing the screen remotely using Airplay I use an App on the iPhone called Air Camera directed down at my iPad screen.  The Air Camera sends the video to the Apple TV using Airplay and people are able to see my taps by seeing my fingers.
Another cool thing in a classroom setting with other iPads you are able to let people know your Wifi password and then display their iPad screen up on a projector to ask a question about something or demo something.
So for the extra $99 dolars for the Airport Express and a few minutes setting it up, wammo you have it!
One last note.  If you actually do have wired internet at the podium you can connect it to the WAN port of the Airport express and all your iDevices would in addition have internet access.  If you need internet access for all the devices and you are presenting in a place without internet then you have to bring a wireless hotspot in place of the airport express.  This works equally well (again just setup the connection from the iDevices to the wireless hotspot ahead of time)
    Have fun and good luck!

  • Iphone will not charge via usb-to-computer nor via brick; I've tested with two different cables. Just before this problem arose, I got messages similar to "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone."

Most of my concern is in the subject line. I probably should've saved some content to include here. Allow me to elaborate:
While traveling with the tiny brick, I got a message on my 3GS phone that "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone”; however, the charger was working fine with another phone and with an iPad.
I tested alternatives by removing and re-inserting the cable (obviously, as I tested other devices), changing wall receptacles, shutting the phone off (all the way), all to no avail.
When I got home, I plugged a different cable--one that was connected to my iMac rather than the brick--into the my 3GS; it still didn't charge.
So, I'm hypothesizing that perhaps some debris (from a pocket?) got into the charging receptacle of the 3GS and is disrupting the connection. Perhaps there are other hypotheses.
I am reluctant to do a reset, as (a) the problem doesn't appear to be a software issue (the phone and software are all working, though the charge is declining) and (b) I don't want to lose the contents before I can sync it (now that I'm home, again).
I'd welcome suggestions. Meanwhile, I suppose I shall e-mail photos and notes from the phone to myself before I lose the remaining charge.

Try to clean the 30-pin receiver slot either by blowing air into it or using a microfiber cloth. If the problem persists, based on what you've already said, I'd say the problem is most likely hardware, and would need to be replaced or repaired. I hope your iPhone is still under the 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty, or if applicaable extended warranty. You can check by calling AppleCare National iPhone Technical Support at 1 (800) 694-7466.
