Tree Node Links

Hello,
I am trying to configure a Tree in APEX 4.1 and I'm not sure if what I am trying to do is possible. Here is the situation: I work for a university that has the following colleges:
College of Arts & Communication
College of Business Administration
College of Education
College of Liberal Arts
College of Professional Studies
College of Sciences
Each of the above listed colleges have multiple majors that are unique to that college.
So my tree uses the college name for the parent node and each of the majors for that college as the child nodes. Each Major has a major code assigned to it, so when a user clicks on a major, a page loads with information about the students in that major. Colleges, however, do not have a major code and so if the user clicks on the college name in the tree, the page loads but has no data. So, what I would like is that if a user clicks on a mjor, the pages loads like currently set up, but if the user clicks on a college name, a different page loads with information about that college.
So the question is: Is it possible to have one page load, say Page 21, when a major (child node) is selected, and another page, Page 22, when a college (parent node) is selected?
Thanks,
Bob

Yes, that is very much possible to call different urls/pages from different tree nodes. You need to format your query to use independent select statements (for each node) and finally use UNION to form the tree.
For example, you can do something like this:
SELECT CASE WHEN connect_by_isleaf = 1 THEN 0
            WHEN level = 1             THEN 1
            ELSE                           -1
       END as status
,      level
,      name as title
,      icon
,      id as value
,      tip as tooltip
,      url as link
,      seq as display
from
-- select statement for the parent node
UNION
-- select statement for the first/immediate child node
UNION
-- select statement for the level 2 child
start with parent is null
connect by NOCYCLE prior id = parent
order siblings by displayIn each select statement, you can specify the required link/url.
I hope this helps.

  • Hiding Page 0 Items and Tree Node Links

    I have two issues I'm trying to work out:
    1) I have created a tree on page 0 that I want to appear on all of my REPORT pages, so the user can filter the reports regardless of which page they're on. The problem is that the tree is also appearing on the login page and the Home page. Is there any way to hide the tree on the login and home pages but have it appear on all other pages? I'm trying to avoid having to create the tree on every single report page.
    2) I need the tree to work like this: the user clicks any node in the tree, and all reports (on multiple pages) are filtered based on the node selected. So I don't actually want the nodes to be links to a report, I just want the reports to be filtered based on the node value selected. Then I'll have tabs to navigate between the different reports. Is this possible?
    Thanks.

    I dunno if you correct it, but there was small mistake in the JS code - a closing bracket was missing
    $s('P0_TREE_NODE', $(this.triggeringElement).parents('li:first').attr('id'));
    it looks like the node value IS being stored in the session stateI hope you checked for items in page 0 (it should then list down page 0 items including P0_TREE_NODE) when you searched for session state(it defaults to whichever page is run currently)
    If these two are working fine, it has to be some page process/computation/item source/item default that modifies the item value when you move between pages.
    To find this: Turn debug on, reload the page , click on a tree node, then redirect to some other page and then check the debug report and see if the page 0 item: P0_TREE_NODE is being set/reset/modified elsewhere.

  • Af:tree - how do I highlight the selected tree node?

    af:tree
    I checked the generated CSS file. I found that when a tree node is selected, the related CSS attribute is:
    .xj:link{
    font-family:Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,sans-serif;
    font-size:10pt;
    font-weight:normal;
    color:#663300
    I created a customized CSS attribute, but then all of the links have the customized CSS attributes.
    How do I just highlight the selected tree node link?
    Thanks,
    --Todd

    try doing the onclick javascript method
    you have to place it on the node element and id must be made dynamic
    for this use 'this.id'
    by which the current id of the node is passed
    and by capturing the id name in a var
    use the same for invoking its selected property and make it true
    like this
    var currentid = this.id;
    this.form.currentid.selected = true;

  • Command link used as tree node

    I'm using an ADF Tree where one of my nodes is a command link. I've given the link an id="myLink".
    When I run the page, the tree shows up fine with just one node.
    But the View Page source does not contain any entry that says id="mylink".
    Where could be the problem?
    Thanks
    RV

    Hi,
    I assume you use ADF Faces RC, because otherwise you would have posted this to the JDeveloper forum. If you add a command link t a node, then this command link is used for any node that is rendered for the tree (unless you implemented it in a way that only has exactly one command link component showing in the whole tree - which I don't think you have).
    In JSF you cannot have more than one component with a specific ID, which means that assigning an ID to a command link in a tree doesn't make much sense.
    In ADF Faces RC, trees are active components, which means they are created in the DOM and not HTML. So using a DOM inspector like Firebug you should see your tree and link components
    <a id="j_id___jsp_tag_ctru4:7:myLink" class="xdk" href="#" onclick="return false;">commandLink 1</a>

  • Assigning Selected Tree Node Value To An Item

    Hi guys,
    I want to assign selected tree node's value to a page item. This item can be a textbox or a label (display only). How can i do that? I tried to use "Selected Node Page Item" property which is available on Tree Attributes. But I couldn't assign the value without refreshing whole page.
    Do you have any idea?
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
    Thank you that was exactly what I was looking for. I couldn't find how to pass database column to javascript as an input parameter. So thanks for your help. I made a couple of correction :
    1) I put additional ' characters to ('''||"NAME"||''') this part because my field is varchar.
    select case when connect_by_isleaf = 1 then 0
    when level = 1 then 1
    else -1
    end as status,
    level,
    NAME as title,
    null as icon,
    "ID" as value,
    null as tooltip,
    'javascript:setFObjName('''||"NAME"||''')' As link
    from "#OWNER#"."TABLE_NAME"
    start with "PID" is null
    connect by prior "ID" = "PID"
    2) In script I have added ' character before and after page item.
    function setFObjName(pobjName){
    $s('P1_OBJ_NAME', pobjName);
    So it works. Thanks tfor your help.

  • Creation of a Popup Menu for a Tree Node

    Hi Ppl,
      I need to create a Pop-up Menu for a tree node in WebDynpro Application, please give me a "How to .." sort of material or a link which would have same sort of information...
    Also, My requirement is to call the pop-up on the right click of mouse on the tree node, please let me know on which event handler I can call it ? Do I require a custom event handler for it ?
    Thanks in advance
    Anish

    Hi Anish,
    You simply add a Tree UI element, and then right-click the tree UI element and insert a TreeNode element.
    To the TreeNode element you can add a menu, and then to this menu you can add menu items. When the user right click the tree node, the menu item is displayed. If the user clicks the menu item, the action for the menuitem is run.
    Hope that helps.

    I beleive that this line of code is required:
    treeText.addObject(msgInfo);
    I have placed it where the action events start the spider, but i keep getting this error:
    cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : method addObject (java.lang.String)
    location: class javax.swing.JTextArea
    treeText.addObject(msgInfo);
    Also the jtree is not showing the window that I want it to and I am not too sure why. could you have a look to see why? i think it needs a fresh pair of eyes.
    Many thanks

  • How to display a search(query) on a report clicking on a tree node to open

    I need to know how can I do with that when I press on the link(on a tree node(leaf)), open on the other region in the same page a classic or interactive report with my results(passed by parameter, example: ID).
    One example are present on web site posted below:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=36648:34:1599336964673301::NO:::
    I have tried this to composite my tree:
    select case when connect_by_isleaf = 1 then 0 when level = 1 then 1 else -1 end as status, level, "NAME" as title, null as icon, "ID" as value, null as tooltip, decode(level, 1, 'f?p=&APP_ID.:106:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::P106_MAQ_ID:'||ID, 2,'f?p=&APP_ID.:106:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::::::P106_MAQ_ID:'||(ID-1000), 3,'f?p=&APP_ID.:104:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::P106_MAQ_ID:'||(ID-10000), 4,'f?p=&APP_ID.:105:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::P106_MAQ_ID:'||(ID-100000)) as link from "#OWNER#"."V_TREE1" start with "PID" is null connect by prior "ID" = "PID" order siblings by "NAME"
    But the parameter passed dont do with the report change your view to the one row with ID passed. I need to obtain the same results showed on website posted above.
    I obtained success on action to redirect to other page with Form with Report to edit, but dont to show. And i want to show and the same page.
    below the code that i obtained to redirect:
    select case when connect_by_isleaf = 1 then 0 when level = 1 then 1 else -1 end as status, level, "NAME" as title, null as icon, "ID" as value, null as tooltip, decode(level, 1, 'f?p=&APP_ID.:102:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::P102_MAQ_ID:'||ID, 2,'f?p=&APP_ID.:103:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::P103_SRV_ID:'||(ID-1000), 3,'f?p=&APP_ID.:104:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::P104_INS_ID:'||(ID-10000), 4,'f?p=&APP_ID.:105:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::P105_SIS_ID:'||(ID-100000)) as link from "#OWNER#"."V_TREE1" start with "PID" is null connect by prior "ID" = "PID" order siblings by "NAME"
    Thank you so much for your help.

    Muhammad,
    you can add a user parameter (p_count), which get the default value value 1 for example. Then add a field (with some source of type character like desname) for your footer with a format trigger like
    if :p_count=1 then
         srw.set_field_char(0,'Office Copy');
    elsif :p_count=2 then
         srw.set_field_char(0,'Shop Copy');
    else
         srw.set_field_char(0,'Account Dept Copy');
    end;
    return true;
    Or you build 3 boilerplates with format triggers like
    if :p_count=1 then return true; else return false; end if; for "Office Copy" .....
    In the After Report Trigger start the Report with same paramters using a higher value for p_count as parameter. If p_count=3, do nothing in the trigger.
    Regards
    Rainer

  • Tree and Tree Node Components - Threadinar7

    Hi All,
    This is the seventh in the "Threadinar" series , please see Threadinar6 at
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=100601 for details
    In this Threadinar we will focus on the
    "Tree" and "Tree Node" Components
    Let us begin our discussion with the Tree Component.
    Tree Component
    You can drag the Tree component from the Palette's Basic category to the Visual Designer to create a hierarchical tree structure with nodes that can be expanded and collapsed, like the nodes in the Outline window. When the user clicks a node, the row will be highlighted. A tree is often used as a navigation mechanism.
    A tree contains Tree Node components, which act like hyperlinks. You can use a Tree Node to navigate to another page by setting its url property. You can also use a Tree Node to submit the current page. If the the Tree Node's action property is bound to an action event handler, selecting the node automatically submits the page. If the Tree Node's actionListener property is bound to an action listener, opening or closing the node automatically submits the page. You set Tree Node properties in the Tree Node Component Properties window.
    * If you use this component to navigate between pages of a portlet, do not use the url property to link to a page. Instead, use the Navigation editor to set up your links to pages.
    * Events related to tree node selection do not work correctly in portlets because the component uses cookies to pass the selected node id back and forth, and cookies are not correctly handled by the portlet container. You cannot handle tree node selection events in portlet projects.
    Initially when you drop a tree on a page, it has one root node labeled Tree and one subnode labeled Tree Node 1. You can add more nodes by dragging them to the tree and dropping them either on the root node to create top level nodes or on existing nodes to create subnodes of those nodes. You can also right-click the Tree or any Tree Node and choose Add Tree Node to add a subnode to the node.
    Additionally, you can work with the component in the Outline window, where the component and its child components are available as nodes. You can move a node from level to level easily in the Outline window, so you might want to work there if you are rearranging nodes. You can also add and delete tree nodes in the Outline window, just as in the Visual Designer.
    The Tree component has properties that, among other things, enable you change the root node's displayed text, change the appearance of the text, specify if expanding or collapsing a node requires a trip to the server, and specify whether node selection should automatically open or close the tree. To set the Tree's properties, select the Tree component in your page and use the Tree Component Properties window.
    The following Tutorial ("Using Tree Component") is very useful to learn using Tree components

    Tree Node Component
    You can drag the Tree Node component from the Palette's Basic category to a Tree component or another tree node in the Visual Designer to create a node in a hierarchical tree structure, similar to the tree you see in the Outline window.
    The tree node is created as a subnode of the node on which you drop it. If you drop the node on the tree component itself, a new node is created as a child of the root node. You can see the hierarchical structure clearly in the Outline window, where you can also easily move nodes around and reparent them.
    You can also add a tree node either to a Tree component or to a Tree Node component by right-clicking the component and choosing Add Tree Node.
    A Tree Node component by default is a container for an image and can be used to navigate to another page, submit the current page, or simply open or close the node if the node has child nodes.
    * If you select the Tree Node component's node Tree Node icon in the Outline window, you can edit its properties in the Tree Node Properties window. You can set things like whether or not the Tree Node is expanded by default, the tooltip for the Tree Node, the label for the tree node, and the Tree Node's identifier in your web application.
    * You can use a Tree Node to navigate to another page by setting its url property. You can also use a Tree Node to submit the current page. If the the Tree Node's action property is bound to an action event handler, selecting the node automatically submits the page. If the Tree Node's actionListener property is bound to an action listener, opening or closing the node automatically submits the page.
    - Note: If you use this component to navigate between pages of a portlet, do not use the url property to link to a page. Instead, use the Navigation editor to set up your links to pages. In addition, events related to tree node selection do not work correctly in portlets because the component uses cookies to pass the selected node id back and forth, and cookies are not correctly handled by the portlet container. You cannot handle tree node selection events in portlet projects.
    * If you select the image in the Tree Node, you can see that its icon property is set to TREE_DOCUMENT. If you right-click the image on the page and choose Set Image, you can either change the icon to another one or choose your own image in the Image Customizer dialog box. For more information on working with an image in a tree node, see Image component.
    - Note: The image used in a tree node works best if it is 16x16 or smaller. Larger images can work, but might appear overlapped in the Visual Designer. You can right-click the component and choose Preview in Browser feature to check the appearance of the images.
    Please share your comments, experiences, additional information, questions, feedback, etc. on these components.

    One challenge I had experience was to make the tree
    always expanded on all pages (I placed my tree menu
    in a page fragment so I can just import it in my
    pages).Did you solve this problem. It would be interesting to know what you did.
    To expand a node you call setExpanded on the node. Here is some code from a tutorial that a coworker of mine is working on.
    In the prerender method:
           Integer expandedPersonId = getRequestBean1().getPersonId();
             // If expandedPersonId is null, then we are not coming back
            // from the Trip page. In that case we do not want any trip
            // nodes to be pre-selected (highlighted) due to browser cookies.
            if (expandedPersonId==null) {
                try {
                    HttpServletRequest req =(HttpServletRequest)
                    getExternalContext().getRequest();
                    Cookie[] cookies = req.getCookies();
                    //Check if cookies are set
                    if (cookies != null) {
                        for (int loop =0; loop < cookies.length; loop++) {
                            if (cookies[loop].getName().equals
                                    ("form1:displayTree-hi")) {
                                cookies[loop].setMaxAge(0);
                                HttpServletResponse response =(HttpServletResponse)
                                getExternalContext().getResponse();
                                response.addCookie(cookies[loop]);
                } catch (Exception e) {
                    error("Failure trying to clear highlighting of selected node:" +
                            e.getMessage());
            }                  ... (in a loop for tree nodes)...
                      personNode.setExpanded(newPersonId.equals
                                    (expandedPersonId));In the action method for the nodes:
           // Get the client id of the currently selected tree node
            String clientId = displayTree.getCookieSelectedTreeNode();
            // Extract component id from the client id
            String nodeId = clientId.substring(clientId.lastIndexOf(":")+1);
            // Find the tree node component with the given id
            TreeNode selectedNode =
                    (TreeNode) this.getForm1().findComponentById(nodeId);
            try {
                // Node's id property is composed of "trip" plus the trip id
                // Extract the trip id and save it for the next page
                Integer tripId = Integer.valueOf(selectedNode.getId().substring(4));
                getRequestBean1().setTripId(tripId);
            } catch (Exception e) {
                error("Can't convert node id to Integer: " +
                        selectedNode.getId().substring(4));
                return null;
    It would also be great if I can set the tree
    readonly where the user cannot toggle the expand
    property of the tree (hope this can be added to the
    tree functionality).

  • Selecting a RichTree component tree node

    Hi,
    How do I get the selected tree node in a RichTree component?. I would like to select the node with the mouse and possibly use the popup menu to initiate an action (e.g. delete). How do I add an item to the popup menu to do this? I'm using the RichTree component in JDev 11g. Any sample code would be helpful.
    Thanks
    Colin

    Colin,
    To perform some operation on node selection within af:tree component you simply need to create a selectionlistener and decorate the tree component with the listener you implemented. For the context-menu you describe the af:tree has an attribute named contextMenuId. Set the value of this attribute to equal the id of an af:popup that contains an af:menu that represents the menu that you want displayed on a right-click. Below is a link to the tag doc for the af:tree component

  • Help w/ clicking on leaves of tree node

    Hello,
    I am fairly new to Flex and coding in general, so please bare
    with me if my problems seems like a trivial one.
    I am trying to create a tree list, where the contents of the
    tree are actually links. For example, the top level of the tree
    node would be a category (companies), and the leaves of the tree
    would be the company names. In addition, I would like the user to
    be taken, in a new browser window, to a URL specified in the XML
    list when clicking on a company name.
    I am having problems resolving the click actions in the app.
    I can get the app to open and close the nodes of the tree cleanly,
    but when I try to add some code to take the user to a URL when
    clicking on a company name (leaf), I get errors.
    I am really stuck on how to read the click event in the tree
    list, run to the associated XML file to find the URL, then open up
    a new browser page to that URL.
    Can someone help me please? I've added a snippet of code to
    review.
    Thank you in advance!

    Two things:
    1) I'm thinking the currentTarget of the itemClick event will
    be the tree
    itself, not the node. So you need to look at the selectedItem
    property to
    get the node. See the example under Handling Tree control
    events:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=dpcontrols_8.html
    2) To answer your question, you just need to reference it
    properly for
    however you set up the xml:

  • Confirmation Dialog when clicking on Tree Node.

    I am working on Oracle Apex 4.2.0.00.27 and I have the following problem:
    The code below shows the definition of a tree. The tree displays records from the table ACTIVITIES in hierarchical structure.
    When user clicks on a leaf/node of the tree he will be redirected to another page where the details of each Activity/leaf/node are displayed.
    The tree is part of a page where I have established a functionality to check for changes on the input fields of the page and inform the user when he tries to redirect without first saving the changes he made.
    What I want to do is:
    WHEN user clicks on a node of the tree AND he hasn't saved any changes he made
    THEN
    trigger a confirmation dialog.
    IF
    he clicks OK he is redirected to the node details page as defined on the tree definition:
    f?p=&APP_ID.:10:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::P10_ID:'||"ID"
    ELSE if he clicks CANCEL
    he stays on the same page.
    The condition to trigger the confirmation box is:
    if (document.getElementById('P0_CHANGES_DETECTED').value == 1)
    where P0_CHANGES_DETECTED is a universal hidden text field that is set to +'1'+ every time a change is made.
    and here is the tree definition:
    select case when connect_by_isleaf = 1 then 0
    when level = 1             then 1
    else                           -1
    end as status,
    level,
    +"NAME" as title,+
    null as icon,
    +"ID" as value,+
    null as tooltip,
    decode(PARENT_ID,null,null, 'f?p=&APP_ID.:10:'||:APP_SESSION||'::::P10_ID:'||"ID") as link
    from "#OWNER#"."ACTIVITIES"
    where GROUP_ID = :P20_GROUP_ID
    start with "ID" in (select ID from "#OWNER#"."ACTIVITIES" where GROUP_ID = :P20_GROUP_ID and PARENT_ID is null)
    connect by prior "ID" = "PARENT_ID"
    order siblings by "ID"
    I hope it is clear what I want to achieve. Thanks in advance.

    So you'll want to bind an event to all tree nodes that checks for the value and then fires the confirmation if there value is 1.
    Try something like this:
    - first, give your static ID attribute in your tree the value of tree_static_id (or whatever you want. just replace the id selector below with what you choose).
    - In your Page Function and Variable Declaration Javascript:
    function confirmSave() {
    var changeDetected = jQuery('#P0_CHANGES_DETECTED').val();
    if(changeDetected == 1) {
    //only do this if change is detected
    if(confirm('You have unsaved changes. Do you want to leave this page?')) {
    window.location('[your url here]');
    jQuery(document).ready(function() {
    //bind function to the click event
    $('#tree_static_id').find('li a').bind('click', function() { confirmSave(); } });
    });Hope this helps
