  • Trouble compiling servlet example

Hi All, I am trying out an example for servlets and I ran into trouble compiling the the file called "FormProcessingServlet.java" in tutorial located here: http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/Servlets/Fundamentals/magercises/FormPostingAndProcessing/index.html
The exact problem happens in this line:
    isStructure = context.getResourceAsStream(paramStructureFile[0]);
    The error says:
    FormProcessingServlet.java:127: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : method getResourceAsStream (java.lang.String)
    location: interface javax.servlet.ServletContext
    isStructure = context.getResourceAsStream(paramStructureFile[0]);
anyone else ran into this problem? How do I fix this? Thanks.

"cannot resolve symbol" means that the JVM can't find a particular class.
Adjust your systems classpath variable to include all the jar files that you use, I also add "." to include files in the current directory I'm working from.

  • Open Forte for java project in Sun java studio enterprise

Hi Everyone, I am new to Java development. I have a java application developed in Forte for java 4 and I need to open and compile it in Sun java studio enterprise. Could anybody tell me how to do that? Thank you very much.

The recent versions of the IDE (starting with NetBeans 4.1 and JSE 8) are based on a more-robust project system that is ant based. Projects from Forte for Java 4, unfortunately, cannot be directly opened in JSE8, NB4.1 and later.
If you do have access to the original source code, pl. try the following in the latest version of JSE or NetBeans:
    - Create a fresh project in jse using File | New Project. (For a java standalone app, you would choose General | Java Application from the dialog).
    - Add the existing files to the empty project. You can do so by right-clicking on the project, selecting properties and adding the existing source directories under 'Source Packages' in 'Sources' category.
Or from the new project dialog, you could select 'General | Java Project with existing sources' option.

  • Error while compiling JMS example - package javax.jms does not exist

    Dear All,
I am a newbie trying to use JMS. I have downloaded EE 5 SDK and installed (it contains Message Queue 4.1 as well). After the installation and going to some tutorials, I tried to compile the example 'SimpleQueueSender.java' which was downloaded from Sun website.
Before running the application, I made sure that I have set the classpath, path environment veriables correctly, but still I got the error "package javax.jms does not exist". I have searched internet for help and in all places I found people replying to similar issues. But I was not able to apply the solution as either the folder names or file names specified in the solution is different from what is existing in my system.
Please help me. Also could anyone help me in telling the pre-requisites to ensure a proper running of java application.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards,
    San

I'm not sure exactly what your JavaEE SDK installation contains (there are so many versions) but it will typically contain a Glassfish installation. Under the Glassfish installation, the imq directory contains all the files needed for MessageQueue.
The javax.jms package contains the JMS API interfaces. These can be found in jms.jar, which is typically in imq/lib. At runtime you will also need imq.jar from the same directory, which contains the implementation of these interfaces for MessageQueue.
Note that you will need to start a Message Queue server as well. EIther start a Glassfish server (which includes an embedded Message Queue broker), or (simpler) start a standalone Message Queue broker by running imqbrokerd (from the imq/bin directory).

  • Example Application - EJB3/JAXB2/GlassFish - Sun Java Studio Creator 2

    Hi,
I'm setting up an example application using EJB3/JAXB2 together with a Sun Java Studio Creator2 web client.
The example is not in a smooth/sexy presentation state;)
However, it works on my windows pc. Most installation steps
are already automated. It's fun to see how easy the Creator web app
works together with glassfish ejb3 layer.

    Hi Matthias,
I am interested in your example and the link is invalid. Can you send me your solution of the integration EJB3 and Creator please?

  • Java Studio Enterprise 7 - pooched

This is kinda long. But I am sure you will find my troubles amusing. This is the story of a poor soul (me) stuck in the grasp of the evil studio. Read on!
I have been using jse7 for about 4 months now. It was doing fine until a week ago. Now I have a bunch of problems that I cannot seem to resolve. I do not know if they are related or are separate problems. Here is what happened and what I have done to try and fix it.
First, I was developing and application that needed JavaMail. I created a command line test app that worked fine. But ,when I tried to integrate JavaMail with my j2ee app in java studio, I kept getting all kinds of exceptions. It appeared to be a classpath issue with mail.jar and activation.jar. Somehow the version I compiled the app with was not the version getting deployed. Something like that.
Here starts the problem. I went out to java.sun.com and got the latest mail.jar and activation.jar. I tried mounting the jars in studio. That did not work. So I replaced all the activation and mail jars I could find within java studio's dir. Ouch! I later regretted doing that...
Java Studio promply fell over and died telling me the new jars were not valid jars for studio. I tried to replace the original jars. That allowed studio to load. But now studio will not recognize the modules and applications I have built. The code is there. But instead of getting an icon for each type, I get a little white square (like studio is telling me it has no idea what it is). I cannot deploy or anything. And my application server is missing on the runtime tab. I don't know how to add it. So now I realize I am pooched. I have somehow screwed up studio.
So I uninstalled studio, thinking that I will beat this thing. I have had to do this before. I would have to track down and add all the jars I was using. I would have to reconfigure the connection pools, etc. I was not too happy about this, but that is life. I was going to beat this thing.
Well, this time when I reinstalled it, everything was still there, all mounted directories including my CVS code, jar files, and connection configurations. Studio still can't recognize apps and modules and my app server is missing on the runtime tab.
What is going on? Is there an easier fix for this? If not, how to I completely uninstall studio? I am really stuck. I can't figure out how to uninstall studio. And what I do have does not work. At this point I feel my only option is to reinstall windows. But that sounds bad. I would rather fix it.
Then even if I do get it back, I am still stuck with trying to get JavaMail to work...
    What do you think?

The J2EE platform requires specific versions of libraries to be supported by the application server (which are part of the default classpath, loaded ahead of the users classes). This includes things like Java mail, JMS and others. JSE 7 provides by default the required API's. JSE 8 is slightly different as the required jar files are supplied by the target application server. In general, updating any of the set of jars will require server configuration as the class loading strategy used by application servers is complex (you might find the following article interesting http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jsenterprise/reference/techart/jse7/classloading-pkg.html).
If you really must update the versions of a library in JSE 7, you might try reordering the classpath (some of the jar files which you replaced may have been required for the IDE itself, so changing the jars may have caused internal exceptions), in the explorer activate the context menu and select the customize classpath option. This will show you the current classpath and you can replace api's (in most cases) by mounting and reorder the necessary jars (same capability as the java environment provides).

  • Java Studio Creator and JDK

I'm trying to create a game application using java and i've downloaded both java studio creator and JDK. However i'm having problems of writing the program. Should i use notepad and compile it using JDK? Or can i simply use the java studio creator and type in my java codings? And i cant seem to type in any codings in the java studio creator.

    Hello, Burpyjac!
I don't understand what you want to do exactly. If you would like to write an applet for a website maybe Java Studio Creator is not what you want, it's an IDE for developing web applications running in an application server like Glassfisch, SJSAS, Tomcat and the like.
If your game need animation, drawings in a panel and the like you would need another IDE like Netbeans for example to develop an applet. Of course you can just use Notepad, but a IDE like Netbeans is much more comfortable (syntax highlighting, project managment, debugging).
Java Studio Creator is an IDE for web applications and it is based on Netbeans (if you saw both you will notice). If your game can live without graphics maybe you can use it - but be aware that this applications do not run alone, you need an application server.
    Cheers,

  • Having trouble compiling

I am a total newbie at programming and I am having trouble compiling. In the MS-DOS prompt, I located the folder where my .java file is located and typed the following:
    javac SampleProgram.java
I received a "Bad command or file name" error. I am typing the names correctly. I am using Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition Version 1.3.1. Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks for any help.

That should fix it. The problem is that DOS needs to know where to find the executable files like javac.exe
You can either set the path temporarily by typing
    SET PATH=.;c:\jdk1.3.1\bin
at the command prompt each time you open a command window, or you can set it more permanently by adding it to your startup config. This will depend on your OS. On win 98 for example, there is an AUTOEXEC.BAT (usually with a SET PATH command already present). You could open this in notepad to add/change:
    SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS
    to
    SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS;.;C:\JDK1.3.1\BIN
Reboot to make the changes take effect. Other OS's may have a special dialog to set this kind of command.
    Hope this helps some.

  • Import statement code generation from Java-Platform Model in Java Studio

Problem : When you create a Java-Platform Model type project in Java Studio 8.1 and as an example You would like to create an Attribute with java.util.Date type for a Class than how can You set this Attribute type in order to create the Code Generator the standard java package reference in Your code like : "import java.util.Date;" ? What is the right syntax in the "Type'" field of the Attribute Properties dialog ?

You should also consider using NetBeans as an alternative to JSE8.1.
Java Studio Enterprise 8.1 is itself built on top of NetBeans version 5.0. NetBeans is an ide developed as opensource at www.netbeans.org; it is extensible ide and so add-on modules can be developed to run on top of netbeans. And that is what JSE8.1 does; JSE 8.1 is NetBeans 5.0 plus several add-on modules (like UML etc).
The latest stable version of NetBeans is 6.0 and provides improved versions of all relevant addons found in JSE.

  • How to compile and register a Java CFX tag with multiple class files?

    All-
If this is the wrong forum for CFX questions, please let me
    know.
I need to determine how to compile and register a Java CFX
tag that contains multiple class files. One class file implements
the CustomTag interface and the other class files implement various
supporting classes. All of the documentation that I have found
talks about using a single class file. I am assuming that a JAR
file will be involved, but I am not sure of the specifics.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    -Josh

Yes, it will involve a jar. Use your java IDE (eclipse,
etcetera ..) to create a jar containing all of the classes. Check
your ide's documentation for how to create jar files. After you
have created the jar, place the jar in the CF class path so CF will
recognize it. For example the {cf_root}/WEB-INF/lib directory. CF
must be restarted before it will detect the new jar. After
restarting CF, register the CFX tag in the ColdFusion Administrator
using the name of the class that implements the CustomTag
    interface.
Though it is worth noting you can also instantiate java
classes directly from ColdFusion (ie without using a CFX
    tag).

    Hi,
I'm trying to deploy my Sun Java Studio application to Apache Tomcat 5.0.28.
A simple JSF web application built using the creator works fine after deploying the war file under tomcat/weapps directory.
In case of a application with databse connection I'm getting the

    I had similar problems.
I used mysql with tomcat and have mysql in my Creator environment as well but still had the driver message you experienced.
I found that simply copying the WAR file into the webapp directory in tomcat caused a faulty deployment (it was creating /etc/tomcat5/localhost/YourProject.xml as a directory, not as a file)
I updated my Projects/MyProject/build.xml to include a deploy target and I manually execute the ant deploy step (having not figured out how to tweak the internal ant within Creator)

  • Oracle EBS R12 - how to compile jsp and keep .java file

    Hello.
When I compile the jsp file, it will create the _pagename.class file into $COMMON_TOP/_pages directory. Some of the time it also keep _pagename.java file in there.
How can force the compiler to keep the java file always.  I am using following command which creates _pagename.class file.
    perl $FND_TOP/patch/115/bin/ojspCompile.pl --compile -s 'ptcResponse.jsp' --flush
It keeps the _pagename.java file some of the times and not other, example if the compilation fails then java files stored there otherwise only class.
There has to be some way/location to see/keep the _pagename.java file, we need them for troubleshooting runtime error.

It keeps the _pagename.java file some of the times and not other, example if the compilation fails then java files stored there otherwise only class.
    This is an expected behaviour.
There has to be some way/location to see/keep the _pagename.java file, we need them for troubleshooting runtime error.
The "perl ojspCompile.pl" command doesn't offer this -- Issue "perl ojspCompile.pl" and you will see what options are available.
Your option is to keep/save the java files in a different directory.

  • Running Jar Files created in Sun Java Studio

    Hi everyone,
I am still trying to explore the functionalities (especially as regards deployment issues) of this robust IDE. However I do have a problem. I have developed a very basic program that connects to a database (MSSQL) using Java Studio 8. However after building the jar file, if I try to execute the jar file it gives me this message
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver.....
But all goes well within the IDE and it runs well if I use my notepad or vi editor, compile it from the command line and execute the generated class file. The classpath have been set for all the necessary jdbc jar files.
    Any Help Will Be Appreciated

    1. Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8 is based on NetBeans 4.1 which does not provide direct support for packing an application. One alternative you may want to consider is to use NetBeans 5.0 (http://www.netbeans.info/downloads/download.php?type=5.0) or JSE 8.1 which is based on NB5.0 and which is now in beta (http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jsenterprise/downloads/index.jsp).
You may want to refer to http://www.netbeans.org/kb/articles/javase-deploy.html for packing and deploying a standalone application is NB5.0 or JSE8.1.
    2. Using JSE8, you may want to try copying all the library jars (including database drivers) used by your application to your projects dist directory manually and then package them all into one jar.
    3. You should not have to know the exact location of the jdbc jar on the client machine. How are you instantiating the driver in your code? Are you using 'Class.forName()'? If so, java should be able to pick up the driver from the classpath. (Pl. ref to http://forum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?forumID=122&threadID=62696, which may be of help).
