Trouble connecting to MSN Messenger server, despite internet working

Sorry, this probably isn't in the correct section but I've been trying to connect to MSN Messenger for the last day or two. Normally I would just leave it and let it fix itself. However this hasn't resolved the problem. I normally use mercury messenger, but have since tried to connect using alternatives such as the official MSN software, amongst others.
I've reset the computer, deleted & reinstalled all the software, disconnected from the internet and set up a new user account, but the problem still seems to be happening. Using mercury messenger I get the error message "unable to connect to MSN server", while MSN messenger simply says I may not be connected to the internet.
Could someone please advise what else I could try, as I use MSN as a cheap way to communicate with friends!
Thanks,

Hi there!
I'm assuming everything on the net is working normally except for MSN? Does sound strange...where exactly is Warwickshire? Is there a possibility there are some MSN network problems in your area? I wouldn't expect so many different apps to be giving you a problem...
As for alternatives Adium is really a nice choice on Mac because you can connect wth any IM protocol. The disadvantage is you can't do video. Anyways with the real MSN Messenger you can't video either...that's why Mercury and also aMSN are popular alternatives...
Let us know,
Reg

What modem and what kind of service do you have, ie cable??
Some modems are not playing nice with the TC.. the Motorola in particular.
What model TC do you have?
    What firmware is it running??
Firmware matters in some cases. The problem is more on the later firmware.. so 7.6.3 or 4 mostly with Gen1-4.. or any firmware on a gen5.
Reset for the models is slightly different although all can be done like this.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
    Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

  • I can't update my ipod. When I check for updates it says "can't connect to server"(despite internet connection being fine). Also, when I try and update software it starts then stops after 2 seconds

I can't update my Ipod. When I check for updates it says "can't connect to server" despite internet connection being fine. When I receive a software update message;I say install and it starts updating then stops after 2 seconds. Help! (It is a 3rd gen IPod touch(I think)). Presumably as a result of this, I have tried to put my library onto my gf's new iPod touch and it just charges it..doesn't download my library onto the touch).

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • Can't connect to msn messenger for mac OSX

    Hi,
Each time i try to connect to MSN messenger it told me i am not connected to the web and i can't use it no more. It's strange because it appears suddenly. Is there any internet set up i need to change?
    thanks, regards

    Hello there,
I would like to say, you are not alone. I have upgraded to live messenger 6.0 tonight. And fail to get online from this new version as well.
I don't think its our mistake. But there must be something wrong with the software. Curious whats the solution, or if they will release a new version....

IPad2- cannot open page, Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server? Internet works but this message continues to pop up. My iPhone works fine and iPad has been working great until a few days ago.
Message is almost acting like a pop up.

    Hi
I constantly get same message.  When I open up my windows laptop all works fine so I guess it's a bug that apple refuse to admit to.

  • HT201210 is anyone having trouble connecting to the activation server?

is anyone having trouble connecting to the activation server?

All of Apple's servers...including the activation servers are pretty much flooded with users like you doing the same thing. Be patient and keep at it...or wait till the traffic to them has decreased and then try again. Coming back to it tomorrow  (if that's a viable option for you) will likely increase your chances of not having issues.

I am not able to connect to MSN Messenger / Yahoo Messenger and ICQ.
Error Message: Connection Error: Please ensure device time is correct.
    Can anyone assist me? Thanks!

If you go into Options | Date/Time is your date/time/time zone correct? At the bottom of the screen is the network time different from the time listed near the top? If so try hitting the menu button and choosing Update Time.

  • "Trouble connecting to App World server. Verify your network connections and try again."

Yesterday on the Blackberry website, I changed my user id/ email address, and received a confirmation email from them stating that my account information had been successfully updated.  Today, however, I can no longer connect to App World.  I keep getting this:  "Blackberry App World is having trouble connecting to the Blackberry App World server.  Verify your network connections and try again."  I also get an error when I try to connect via the internet on my laptop.  Could this be related to changing my user id/ email address?  I created a new user id just to see if it would work, and it does, so it obviously not a software issue on my phone.  How do I get this resolved?

i am having thr same problem
the email address i used for id i no longer use.  i tried wiping my playbook and logging in with new email address.  i get a message saying to check connections and try again.
i really need help.  i have lost all my paid apps.  getting very frustrated with blackberry.

  • I'm having trouble connecting my Intel iMac with the internet using wifi router

I'm having trouble configuring my iMac to accept a connection with my Telstra Elite mobile broadband Wifi router.
The iMac's Wifi is turned on and the elite router is selected in the Wifi list with a tick.
The router is turned on, and connected to the internet.
I'm able to surf the net and collect emails using my MacBook Pro ( what I'm using now) and my iPad with no hassles by connecting them to the Telstra Elite Wifi router. But I'm unable as yet to get a connection using the iMac.
The Telstra router accepts up to 5 simultaneous connections.
At present the display on the router says that three devices are connected. They being the iPad, the MacBook Pro and the iMac.
    Can anyone help me out?

  • Client to connect to msn messenger

    hey all,
i'm starting a project to develop a java client that can connect to the msg messenger service. it needs to have a buddy list that shows who's online, chat functions, and file transfer functions. i was wondering if anyone could get me started and point me in the right direction. whats the outline of my program, how do i implement the different functions, etc. thanks.

Well, I suggest a couple of years of learning Java first, otherwise you'll just become one of the idiots here that think they can make programs without learning to program first. Besides, msn messenger probably has a very obscure protocol since I recall there being some competition between the messenger services (compatibility issues and such).

  • Safari not connecting to server. Internet working fine.

I keep getting this example response: Safari can’t open the page “http://www.cnn.com/” because it could not connect to the server “www.cnn.com” to every single page I try to open. My internet connection is fine b/c AOL is working fine. But I much prefer Safari. I read some other post and people said something about PicLens being a problem but I cannot find it InputManager in Library anywhere.
Does anyone else have an idea about how to get it connecting to the server again?
    Thanks!

    Hi tmac:
Extenders/haxies are third party code that some people install on Safari (bad idea, IMHO, but each person is different).
You may use your original software install (do not actually install) DVD to run repair disk.
When did the problem begin? Have you made changes before the problem began?
    Barry
P.S. I will be heading out of town, but will be able to check mail occasionally (I am not going away).

  • Trouble connecting to MS Exchange server with IMAP

I've been trying to setup Apple mail to talk with the Exchange server at work.
I've had no luck after many attempts.
    Mac Mini, Intel Core Duo
    OS X 10.4.5
    Mail 2.0.6
I can connect to the mail server using Safari via Outlook Web Access fine, so my account information must be good...
The sys admin at work, though not Mac savvy, said to use IMAP.
A few other Mac users at work have gotten this to work from their homes with no hassles but non of their suggestions have helped.
    The account parameters are:
    General Information
    Account Type: IMAP
    Account Description: IMAP Account
    Fill Name: First-name Last-name
    Email Address: <user>@<domain>.com
    Incoming Mail Server
    Incoming Mail Server: mail.<domain>.com
    User Name: <windows-domainname>\user
    Password: <password>
After this window I click Continue and wait ....
Eventually Mail times out with the message:
The IMAP server mail.<domain>.com is not responding ...
    Can someone help ...
    Some related questions:
Do I need have the VPN to work established for Mail to work ?
I've tried it both ways and they both fail.
How do I get additional debug/log information out of mail ?
What is the difference between an Exchange account and an IMAP account ?

Try enabling a secure connection to the IMAP-server in account setup (which also should change the port to be used).
Try using the servername found in the WebAccess URL (http://servername/exchange) instead of mail.<domain>.com if it is different.
Try using user@windows-domainname instead of windows-domainname\user.
If this all does not help, be sure to enable your AD-account for IMAP-access. This is a per account configuration. Just installing the IMAP-connector on the Exchange-server does not grant IMAP-access to everybody.

  • Trouble connecting to the app server

    Facts:
Discoverer installed on NT4, connecting to Oracle8i on Solaris via odbc. Able to connect through sqlplus, etc from the nt4.
    Receiving the following error message:
Unable to connect to the Oracle Discoverer Application Server: oracle/discoverer/corba/_st_DCILocator
Please contact your Oracle Discoverer Administrator.
That is me. I am not sure if I installed this thing incorrectly or what.
    Thanks,
    Young

So I got past the last problem that i posted. I was able to connect after realizing that there were a set of net8 applications (including the discoverer) that uses a different tnsnames.ora than is found in <ora home>\network\admin. I found that you need to also have a tnsnames.ora located in <ora home>\net80\admin and <ora home>\net80\tnsapi.
    This problem killed me!
I now have that up and running. I got the administrator application up and configured everything wonderfully. I am now stuck on trying to get the 3i client running. I am running into more connectivity issues (says cannot connect to the application server). I am certain that it is another problem with my setup.
If anyone can help that would be great. if i find the answer i will post.

  • Trouble connecting to an OPC server

    Hi guys,
The problem is connecting to a mass spectrometer, for which I have a dedicated LAN cable connection and an IP address. I can ping the device, and connecting to the OPC server works with the Softing OPC client, by manually entering the IP address of the server. However it does not show up in the remote machines list when I try to connect to it with via new I/O server. Is there a way to connect directly to an OPC server having only it's IP address?

Our lab was shut down for the holidays period, so I couldn't try anything for a while. Back on it now though.
Thanks for your suggestions! However, I still can't reach the server. Some more details in this post.
The server explorer doesn't see the device either. I think both the
server explorer and LabVIEW actually browse the network looking for
machines running some kind of Samba (SMB) server? That's at least
suggested by the characteristic '\\' added to the machine name I put in
there. I don't think the Mass Spectrometer is running an SMB server. It
does run http and OPC servers, and I believe that's it. So it's not 'visible' on
the Windows network. Is that a problem?
When I enter the IP address of the machine at the new IO server window,
it automatically adds the '\\' in front and gives the 'No such
interface supported' error described in the previous post. When I put
in the IP address of a non-existing machine it gives a different error
('The RPC server is unavailable') after a few seconds. So it does seem
to know there is a machine there, just it can't interface with it.
Reconfiguring the client side DCOM settings according to recipe above didnt seem to make a difference.
    Anyone?
