Trouble exporting a slideshow

I have made a slideshow of garden images (with music) that I would like to share with a client of mine. (Ideally, I would like to email it as a Quicktime movie, so they can view on their home computer.)
Everytime I try to export the slideshow, I get the error message:
The operation can’t be completed because the item can’t be found.
I can't figure out the problem.
Thanks.

I'm having the same problem. The Slideshow plays, and when I export it gives the error you originally stated.
A few seconds later....
I've recreated the library by re-importing the images, created a new slideshow, added a music track and the same issue.
I am running Mountain Lion, on an Mac Pro 8-Core. Any suggestions would be helpful, I am trying to create a wedding DVD for a friend.

  • Exporting Large Slideshow Help!!

I'm having a bit of trouble exporting a slideshow of 515 pictures. I'm aware that is a lot of photos but I can't find ay specifics as far as the limitations of the software goes. I've searched the web high and low and could not find anything that states a limit of how many photos I can have in a slideshow. I'm using the scrapbook theme without music, and attempted to export it at a high resolution. The exporting process took a looooong time as I knew it would, however 3/4 of the way through, the export bar stopped moving completely and the preview for the slideshow stopped as well. I attempted a second time after waiting a few hours to export it, and it again failed to complete. Here's my thing, I'm trying to get this slideshow, bring it into to iMovie so I can add music (because iPhoto won't let me choose specific parts of the songs I want to play) and then bring it into iDVD to burn and watch it on a widescreen or standard TV. Have I surpassed the limitations of the software?? What would be my best option to accomplish this??

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you plan on taking the slideshow into iDVD to burn to disc then exporting at HD is a waste of time and effort. iDVD reduces all content to:
720 x 540 pixels for standard video in NTSC format
    854 x 480 pixels for widescreen in NTSC format 640 x480
Thus crop the photos to the size you want and try again as standard or widescreen.
It's been my experience that creating the slideshow in iDVD gives me the best onscreen image resolution.
The downside to this method is that you can't have the Ken Burns effect (not problem for me as I don't use it), can have only one transition per slideshow and no unique themes.
The upside is that the music plays as it should whereas iPhoto has problems with too much dead air between tracks and early termination at the end of the music.
You might consider creating the slideshow in iMovie or a 3rd party application like Photo to Movie or PhotoMagico. PhotoPresenter is another 3rd party slide show application and offers over 25 animated themes, some of which are shown on this demo page: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes. It has the Ken Burns effect but it is applied to all photos the same way with no user control.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Trouble exporting slideshow

I have never had this problem before but now after I have created an album and subsequent slideshow, I am unable to export the slideshow. I chose file/export/slideshow, then I chose quality and a location for the file, then the progress bar shows briefly but nothing more happens and the folder is empty. Help!

Folks have fixed this one with a reinstall of iPhoto.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

how do i change the format to the right one?
Before you can decide what to do, you have to know what you are starting with. Sony MPEG-1 files would be converted one way while DivX or WMV files would likely be handled in another. Extraneous tracks can be removed directly with QT Pro but if you don't have QT Pro then there may or may not be other work around possibilities depending on the specific audio and video compression formats in use. The best place to start would normally be to double-clic the source file in iPhoto to open it in the QT Player. When it opens in the QT Player, check the "Inspector" window to see what it says on the "Format:" lines. This will tell you the type of audio and video content you are dealing with here. Then come and tell us so we can offer some specific conversion solutions.

  • How can I export a slideshow as Quicktime video in iPhoto 9.5.1?

I want to export a slideshow I created in iPhoto 9.5.1 as a Quicktime video, but neither File > Export nor the Export button at the bottom give me a Custom Export option. I believe this was an option in older versions of iPhoto. Thanks in advance!

iPhoto 9.5.1 no longer can export as a QuickTime movie.
You will have to convert the exported video file to add a QuickTime wrapper. Try to save a QuickTime movie from QuickTime 7. (download here:  QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later.)

  • Why Won't iPhoto Export My Slideshow?

I import photos to iPhoto from my Canon Rebel. They were taken as RAW. I create a folder and name it within iPhoto. I place 50 images and order them the way I want. I then "Select All" the 50 photos in the folder just to play it safe. I click the Plus button and choose Slideshow. I go through all the steps, selecting the theme, selecting the Apple canned music (so that there won't be a copyright issue), I set my settings... Show Title, play music through slideshow, etc. I then click the Preview button. It works fine! I then tap the Play button. My slideshow fills the screen and does as I have asked it to. I then make sure that my slideshow is selected in the left column (it has not been unselected since I started this maneuver) and I click the Export button at the bottom of the window.  HERE IS WHERE, AS I SAID BEFORE, EXPORT DOES NOT WORK.... A dialog box comes up: "Export your slideshow Choose a format based on where you will view your slideshows;___Format:" (I have chosen all three choices many, many times trying to get beyond this point.)  "Automatically send slideshow to iTunes" has been selected, BTW.  I then hit the export button and the navigator dialog box opens and I choose my folder called iPhoto Slideshows. I click OK.  At this point the export progress dialog box opens and sits there... the thumbnail rectangle remains BLACK. The progress bar never changes from its standard GREY.  The only text on the export slideshow dialog box remains the same and says: "Exporting Slideshow ..."  Fearing there was a hiccup somewhere, I have left this window open and able to work OVERNIGHT, just in case. Nothing. I have tried all three formats. I have changed the destination folder. Nothing.
I have had this problem for months. Have asked this forum for help. I have been told nothing is wrong with iPhoto.
So here's my new question: "What am I suppose to do about this problem that I have explained above?"
I would say my copy of iPhoto is corrupt, if there is nothing wrong with iPhoto in general. Is this a possibility?  In which case.... How do I get another iPhoto app without having to pay for it?
Or do you have some other reason this process is not working on my Mac Pro with OS X  10.9.5 (13F34)?
This is the fifth time I have had to export all my photos to my laptop and use Snow Leopard with iPhoto 9.2.3 in order to finish my projects.
Please help with these EXPORT FAILURE questions.
    Thank you, very much.

is it possible to export a slideshow in 1080p format and then show it on a projection TV in 1080? if so, how - what conversions are necessary

Getting it out of Aperture is not a problem. When you export the slide show select 1080p as the export format.
What happens then gets tricky. To create a true high def 1080p DVD requires Blu-Ray. So you will need an external Blu-Ray recoreder and software to create the DVD.
If you're hooking your computer up to the TV then you'll have better luck.

  • Urgent advice needed for exporting a slideshow in iPhoto '09

    hi,
what is the best setting for exporting a slideshow from iPhoto '09?
I'll be burning it with iDVD and it will be watched on a large flat screen TV.
I WAS GOING TO USE THE .MOV option with the default settings but should I use the DV settings?
I've only got time to try it once.
    thanks

Honestly there is no answer for that until you do it. A mov will work perfectly fine. But there are variables: The quality and sharpness of the original photos. How they survive being compressed to a mov, how that mov survives being compressed to DVD format. The quality of the DVD player (and no, they are not all the same) and finally the crispness of the screen. If all goes well, yes it will look perfectly good. But you're not going to know until you do it.

  • Trouble Exporting to PDF

I am having trouble exporting one file to PDF. I try other indd files and they export prefectly fine. Just this one file. When I export it has the message "background task: Failed to export a PDF"
I try couple solution online that I find
    1. Disable preflight and restart InDesign
    2. Add the document to a new book and export from the book panel
The only think that I couldn't try is Disable background exporting.
I am having a little trouble there....I did create an empty ext file and save it as "DisableAsynExport.txt"
but I seem to have trouble going to the folder. It said that you need to go...
    Mac: /Applications/Adobe InDesign CS5.5/Adobe InDesign CS5.5.app/Contents/MacOS/
When I got to Adobe InDesign CS5.5.app it opens the app instead of opening another folder... not sure if there is another way to open it.
So when I go to Mac: /Applications/Adobe InDesign CS5.5/
It has Adobe Indesign CS5.5.app, Configuration folder, Documentation folder, Fonts folder, Legal folder, Plug-Ins folder, Presets folder, Scripts folder and Uninstall Adobe InDesign CS5.5
So I have not clue where the Contents/MacOS is??
Would be best is someone can help me....
    Thank you so much!!!

If it failed from a book, it won't matter if you disable background export becasue books don't use it.

What is the best way to export a slideshow.I like to view  the show trough AppleTV on my television.

You don't really give us a lot of information to work with, and assume we know something about this mdeia player. The only way to get the slideshow to a media player is to export it from iPhoto. To where? Depends on the media player. Will iTunes work? Depends on the media player. Does the media player have a DVD drive? If so, then burning it to DVD with iDVD will work, but it will be standard def not HD.
