Trouble getting footage onto FCE

This sounds really dumb, but for some reason I can't log & capture any of my footage onto FCE. I have an inexpensive Sony Handycam that I'm using as my tape deck to transfer footage from a miniDV. I'm using a firewire, but I'm not sure hot to log the footage. I've used this once before for a project and got it to work, but I can't figure out why it's not working now. Please help!

Well I think I figured it out. Does FCE not have batch capturing? I had to simply just choose "Capture" - originally I was clicking "Log & Transfer" but that wasn't doing anything. Batch capturing would be a huge help.
Also, I finished a rough edit of my work and wanted to e-mail it to someone. I clicked "Export > Quicktime" but I think it's still an FCE file and it won't e-mail. Any ideas how to make it just a simple Quicktime file that I can e-mail?

Trouble getting books onto my kindle app

Okay, so ever since the most recent update that I have been able to add to the Ipad (iOS 7.0.3) I've been having trouble adding books to my ipad through the kindle app.
I've recently moved and do NOT have wifi. So, I've been adding books onto my Ipad via USB transfer through itunes. After the most recent update with cloud though whenever I do this type of transfer I get the book on my kindle with the little "new" banner, however, when I click on it I get the message
"ERROR: please remove the book from your device and redownload it from your cloud items. If the problem persists, try to deregister you application and register it again"
Clearly, I'm sure some of you can see my problem. I cannot connect to my cloud to redownload without wireless internet, AND I cannot deregister because I can't re-register without wireless. Has whatever choice apple made completely cut off those of us without wireless internet from using certain apps? Is there ANY way I can fix this?

You should be able to do it directly within the app. If you've linked the app to your Amazon acount then you should get a Cloud button at the bottom of the app which will let you view your kindle ebook purchases from Amazon, and allow you to download them into the app by tapping on them

I'm getting the footagePath
I then convert the UTF-16 (wchar_t) pointer to a UTF-8 string
Then I write that UTF-8 string to a temp file and it always outputs the following.

This is what was wrong.
It was because the executing code was in a loop and I wasn't allocating strings with the new operator.
This was the line that needed a new on it.
wchar_t footagePath[AEGP_MAX_PATH_SIZE];
Another piece of information that would have been useful to know is that not ALL footage items have paths.
If the don't have a path it will return empty string.

Having trouble getting videos onto iPod

I have several AVI and MPG's of various TV shows on my PC. They won't open using iTunes, but they play fine with Media Player.
Is there an add in for iTunes to allow other formats? The support database claimes iTunes has a built in converter to change into the "iPod format", but I haven't been able to get that to work either.

Trouble getting footage out to external camera!

Can someone please help!! I cannot get any signal out to my firewire-connected VX2000. I am currently using FCP 4.5HD and am editing SD DV Pal. I have my settings in View/Video Playback to Apple Firewire Pal (720 x 576), View/External Video to All Frames but still no joy.
I can capture without a problem.
Any ideas, anyone?

I was just away to reply to your message with the words 'yupmany times' when I thought - I'll try it one more time before I write off that suggestion. I cycled through each one and when I was away to shut down and go to bed when - voila!! the image appeared on my monitor - Hallelujja!!
It is 1.30 in the morning and I have a busy day filming an ad tomorrow so I am going to bedcontented that my issue is now resolved (put to bed, you could say!)

Having trouble getting audiobooks onto iPod Touch

I've tried troubleshooting this for my mom to no avail...
We've found them in the iPod tab on iTunes -- they are all there, and she's able to check the box to Sync to her iPod, but nothing. She's got enough capacity... we've even tried moving them to a playlist but those playlists will mysteriously not show up in the Sync tab on iTunes...
Any idea what's going on here? Trying to help from 1500 miles away but it's hard to tell.

Are you positive these audiobooks are configured to sync to the iPod Touch? Wouldn't hurt to double check.
Plug your iPod in and when it appears in iTunes, click on its name from under the Devicessection in the left hand pane of iTunes. This will bring you to the iPod's Summary tab. Look for the Books configuration tab along the top and click that.
There should be an option right that the top that says Sync Audiobooks with a checkbox next to it. Make sure it is ticked. Then configure other settings below that.

I have two apple accounts, with two separate iCloud accounts, both with information I need on my iPhone and mac. One email is no longer valid therefore I can't varify it via emial. How do I get info onto my phone or onto one account?

I have two different email accounts/IDs because one of my account email's is no longer valid, therefore I am unable to verify it via the varification email. I can not use my current email/apple ID to change it to becuase it is set as my backup on the first account. So frustrating because I am now paying for two seperate iclouds and cloud music storage as well. Just bought my mac and I am having trouble getting music onto my iphone because the majority is on the old, non valid email address account but I have to use my current apple ID on my iphone.... any suggestions on how to not lose everything and have it all in one place would be great! You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.

Having trouble syncing iPad to get movies onto it.....any ideas?

For some reason I am having trouble syncing movies onto my iPad. They are in my iTunes library, I check the box hit apply/sync then nothing.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

It appears that when I sync it seems the sync is syncing the computer with the iPad not iPad with computer.
I have delegated all movies on iPad when I check some movies on iTunes it adds the purple bar at the bottom and availability of space decreases accordingly. When I hir apply/sync it goes through the process then when finishes step four the purple bar at the bottom goes and available space increases again.

Urgent help need to compress 4 hrs of footage onto 1 dvd

hi people any one know the settings i will need to compress 4 hours of footage onto a single layer dvd? the footage is of a seminar so not much action but will still need best quality possible have been using compressor 2 and got a complete head ache as lowest settings state i can only fit 174 minutes on a dvd that coupled with the compression times of over 185 hours at times. so im gonna re install compressor 1.2.1 and try again with that
but any help would be greatfully appreciated

If it was me, I'd be looking at using BitVice to create a half D1 file... pretty much half the file size, and by most people's accounts a better quality than MPEG1. It works by reducing the horizontal resolution - the DVD player re-sizes the footage and there is pretty good reproduction.
Any encoder that can create the encode at 352x576 will be OK, but I know Bitvice will and have used it to do so. Since the file sizes are smaller for the same bitrate, you can fit twice as much footage on. You can easily get 4 hours of Half D1 onto a DVD-R.
Have a look at this graph to get more of a feel for how the different resolutions can work. I don't necessarily agree with all of the info there- the notion of 'fair' quality and 'good' quality being subjective terms and not always applicable to all source types or motion types, etc... but it's a good starting point nonetheless.

Getting VHS onto computer...

Hey everyone,
I was told that I could get footage from VHS onto the computer by going through my video camera.
I have a Panasonic 3CCD NV-GS150 and I have tried a few different possibilities but it doesn't seem to be designed to import.
Can anyone give me anylight on the subject.

Getting footage to play in widescreen format

I am having trouble getting my projects to play in a regular 4:3 tvs as widescreen format.
On my old mac there was no problem
I want to import my footage and then output it to play in 16:9 format.
Is there new set ups thtat i need to configure?? in fce4
any direction would be greatly appreciated.
everyone looks like they are taller than they really are... all appears well in timeline but once on dvd it shows in a stretched tall format on the 4:3 tv....shows fine on widescreen tv.

I've accidentally imported and edited my hd footage onto an ntsc timeline. I'd like to export it now, but it is not preserving the hd ratio without being letterboxed. I've changed the settings on the sequence to hd 960x720, but the footage now looks stretched and squeezed in the viewer. How can I get my footage looking the way it should and on a sequence with the right settings? Thanks.

While I have you though...what is the difference between the two HD export options when exporting with quicktime converter? One option has a 16x9 next to it, one doesn't. I'm assuming since my footage was captured natively 16x9 that I do not need to choose the HD with 16x9 option? Or should I choose this if I plan on posting to the web, so that it is embedded as and knows to play as a 16x9 HD video online? Sorry if that is horribly worded and difficult to understand. Thanks.
