Trouble inserting Disks

I am unable to insert a disk into my MacBook.  I checked to see if there was a disk in the drive using disk utility, but this told me to insert a disk to erase it.  I tried to insert a CDRW just to "erase" it, but wasn't able to do this either.
I just want to be able to insert disks, and don't want or need to erase anything.

Try using a drive cleaner. What type of discs are you trying to use? Have you tried different brands?

  • How to repair "No bootable device insert disk and press any key" problem?

I was browsing sites using Google Chrome when all of a sudden, my laptop completely turned off. I turned the power back on only to find the error message "Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082)" appear in white letters, followed by a bunch of other error messages, ending with, "No bootable device insert disk and press any key". Whenever I try restarting my laptop, the same error messages show up.
I've been reading about Toshiba laptops, to try to remedy this issue, and I've learned that as of 2007, Toshiba discontinued the recovery disks that had always accompanied the laptops, and instead, allow you to totally restore your computer without the help of a disk. (The model of my laptop is Satellite L300D - 01P).
Now, apparently to restore a Toshiba laptop, you're supposed to press the '0' key while also pressing the power button, but when I do this, there is a beeping noise (which is apparently supposed to happen), but the error messages (ending with "No bootable device insert disk and press any key") still show up. Other than the affirmative beeping noise, no changes occur.
Anyone had this problem or have any suggestions of how to fix it?
    Thanks so much.

Have you also learned that you SHOULD create recovery DVD using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator tool? When something goes wrong with HDD you can use this disc for operating system installation. This is clearly described in Users manuals document.
    Back to your problem:
I don't know for sure but Im afraid you have some problem with HDD controller or HDD itself.
Is HDD recognized in BIOS settings (F2 at start up)?

  • Trouble inserting Flash in CS5.5

I just upgraded to CS5.5 and am having trouble inserting a Flash file into Dreamweaver. When I used CS4, I would open the html file that Flash created in the Publish process. I would copy and paste the top part of that file -- the <script> info into the header of my dreamweaver code. Then in the location where I wanted the Flash file to be I would paste the code from the Flash html that started with <!--url's used in the movie--> and ended with </noscript>.
However, the files I just created in Flash using all the same Publish settings as I used previously (I think!) look completely different. There is nothing like either of these sections that I previously used to insert the Flash code into Dreamweaver. Here is a comparison of the 2 Flash html files so you can see what I'm talking about.
    Flash html in CS4:

    HELP!!!!!

OK, firstly, you can open the site an Dreamweeaver CS 4 and insert your flash video, but with CS 5.5 Adobe decided that Flash support should be something they should deprecate. And there is good reason.
Mobile devices don't handle Flash very well. iPhones and iPads simply won't play it and many of the Android devices make a video into a slide show with sound.
With CS 5.5 though, you can make an HTML5 document that understands the <video> tag. This will allow you to directly embed a video into a website without needing any plugin. There is a complete explanation and tutorial here:
Webmonkey: Embed Video in your web page using HTML5
From the article, here's the source:
    <video width="560" height="340" controls>
      <source src="path/to/myvideo.mp4" type='video/mp4; codecs="avc1.42E01E, mp4a.40.2"'>
    <source src="path/to/myvideo.ogv" type='video/ogg; codecs="theora, vorbis"'>
    </video>
That's it! You can add additional stuff, like an image placeholder and so on, but really, you're looking at four lines of code here. Now, with the Flash stuff, Adobe, which supported Flash, wrote all of the code for you. While that was easy, it was a lot more complicated and, of course, clients on your site had to have the Flash plugin to see the video.
Your doctype declatation is XHTML 1.0 strict. You will need to change your doctype to HTML5 thusly:
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html lang="en">
Then after your head tag, declare your character set:
    <meta charset="UTF-8">
Lastly, you will need to make sure that your server understands the ogg Theora MIME type. Download your .,htaccess file from your remote server and add the following lines to the end of that file:
    AddType audio/ogg .oga
    AddType video/ogg .ogv
    AddType application/ogg .ogg
    AddHandler application-ogg .ogg .ogv .oga
You may also be able to add these MIME types from your server's control panel.
    Then, you're finished with Flash—forever.

  • Urgent Support Request! - Adobe CS6 Master Collection - Please Insert Disk

Our company has downloaded Adobe CS6 Master Collection for deployment on our master image this year.
When attempting to install using the files that we downloaded and ran off the hard drive the set up says "Please Insert Disk", this shouldn't be necessary as I have all the required files to install on my computer already.
I need a solution quickly to this as I have to get this master image completed and deployed within the next week or two and I have hundreds of machines to do it on.
It is a clean install and therefore there are no compatibility issues with previous programs, I have tried looking for the installs of the individual programs themselves in the folders to no avail, I had a similar problem with Autodesk products which I solved by installing the trial version then upgrading it to the full version immediately after install. I have not tried that with this problem yet as I'm sure there is a more efficient way to solve the issue. At least I hope there is. Please get back to me as soon as possible with this because I'm required to get this sorted within a very tight deadline.

    Hello Hans,
Thank you for your rapid response.
This appears to have solved my issue.
10 Points to you good sir!
    Regards
    Chris J (KSA Tech)

I am trying to install CS5, it is asking me to insert disk, but it is already in. I can't get past this point. I have never had this problem before.

As an alternative try copying the contents of the disk to your hard drive and run the installer from your hard drive.
    Thanks

I only received one disk labeled "Professional Media Kit" and the serial number when I ordered the program. How do I get the program to load? Am I missing a disk? We couldn't get anyone at website we ordered the product from to respond. Quick at taking our money but no help afterwards.

Iderga are you able to register your serial number at http://www.adobe.com/?  You can find more details on how to accomplish this at Find your serial number quickly - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html.  I would recommend registering your serial number to verify that it is valid.
You can download a fresh copy of the installation files at Download CS6 products.

  • No bootable device found- insert disk and press any key

hi all, recently i have updated my macbook pro (mid 2012) from mavericks to yosemite
now the problem is i cannot install windows 8.1 both by bootcamp and through direct booting
when i go through bootcamp or by direct boot it says : NO BOOTABLE DEVICE FOUND - INSERT DISK AND PRESS KEY
am totally confused of not able to get about this problem
i cant run the windows setup to proceed installation
plz help me to find a solution

OS X cannot as standard write to NTFS partitions so it is likely that initially the Boot Camp utility created a FAT32 partition. This is not however a problem, when you run the Windows 7 installer either you can manually and specifically reformat that partition to NTFS or it may even do this automatically because it knows that Windows 7 can only be installed in to a NTFS partition.
Obviously if you are using the Windows 7 installer to manually reformat a partition make sure you select the right one!
It sounds like the Boot Camp utility got as far as setting the new 'Windows' partition to be the choice to boot from but of course it is currently empty. However if you are using a Windows CD/DVD disc to install from you should still be able to insert it, turn on the Mac, and hold down the letter 'C' to boot from it. If you are using a USB memory stick to install from then plug it in, hold down the Option/Alt key and turn on the Mac. Hopefully it will then list the USB drive as one of the boot choices or at least list the normal Mac boot disk.
With a Bluetooth keyboard the above keys for use during boot up may not work as mentioned by mjl2013.

  • "no bootable devices" insert disk and press any key

hi i just bought leopard yesterday AND I LOVE IT!! The only problem is after waking up i went over to my macbook and turned it one but the message: no bootable devices insert disk and press any key.
came up i rebooted 3 times but i keeps coming up. so i decided to select the mac hard drive by holding alt when i boot it up that worked! but i still want it to be able to boot up straight away by pressing the on button. Also i deleted my boot camp partition yesterday could this be the problem?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi,
in OSX open System Preferences (from the Apple Menu) go to Startup Volume choose your OSX Volume and do the needed restart.
    Should boot right into it.

  • I am having trouble with disk space,

I am having trouble with disk space, I am always getting the error message that I need to delete files on my start up disk, I am all out of space. I cant even save a file to my desktop without getting the message, Is there a way I can free up space. I am not very computer savvy, being a pensioner I  cannot afford expensive options.  I was familiar with the old apple imac, but I was given a macbook pro for my birthday, and am trying to work it out.  I use it mostly for photos and web.

    Jillian,
I'm assuming this is a second-hand machine.  If it is brand new, get it to Apple because it's their problem, not yours.
First thing you should do is go to Programs: Utilities: Disk Utlity and choose "Repair Permissions."  If you don't have the OS X system disk (a DVD) go ahead and verify the Disk. It can't fix itself, so to speak, but can tell you if there is a problem.  iIf you have the OS X system disk then boot off the disk, go to Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.  Assuming all is OK:
You don't need to download any programs to get started on figuring out why all your space is gone.  Try this first:
Oh, when deleting, especially at first, you may have to move only small folders or even files, of 100 MB or so to the trash, then empty the trash.  As the free space increases, you can trash progressively larger files.  To delete files, the computer needs to create even more files to tell it what files it is deleting before it deletes them.  I know, go figure.;)
It would not be a bad idea, and is in fact a very good idea, to run the disk utility "Repair permissions" after every half-dozen trash/empty trash cycles and then restart the computer.
The basic plan is to search for unreasonably sized folders.
    From the Finder:
Open a window, click in the window and then:
Go to menu item View. (If you click on the desktop instead of a window, you'll get a different set of view options, none of which is the one you want.)
Click on it and move the cursor to the bottom choice, Show View Options (alternative Apple (Command)-J).  Make sure the checkbox "Calculate all sizes" is checked. If it isn't, check it and then click on "Use as default" When checked, it will show you the size of a folder.  If it was unchecked, don't be surprised if nothing seems to be happening as it will take awhile for the computer to calculate the size of, literally, thousands of folders.  But some will start to show up right away. If you open a new window and don't see any folder sizes, Repeat the Show View Options routine above and if Calculate all sizes is checked, just wait.
I've heard you Aussies enjoy a beer or two.  If your Mac has to calculate all the folder sizes, this might well be a good time to have a cold one or two, as it will take some time.
Go to the root level, which is "Computer" or "_Your Disk Name_," generically Macintosh under Devices in the sidebar.
Make sure you are in list view and can have the size column visible.  Click on it (turns blue-grey) and it will sort by size, large to small or the reverse.  Click again to reverse the sort order.
On my 10.6.8 machine, I have
    98 GB under Users.
22 GB under Applications. If you only have the Apple-supplied applications, you probably have between 4 and 6 GB here.
    Library is 24.5 GB
    System is 4.6 GB
Other than a few trivially small files or folders, that should be about it for the root level.
If you have two System files, you shouldn't, and will need to get rid of one.  Ask for advice before deleting one or the other.  If you have a, "Previous System," or "Old System," -- can't remember the language, you can proably safely delete it if you are satisified with how your computer is working.
The Library is a candidate for bloat.  Some applications, especially those that manipulate audio or video, store the bulk of their code, generally resources of one type or the other, in the Application Support folder. For instance, I have a 10.5 GB folder of Live Type in my Application Support folder.  Honestly, I don't know what program it is for, but don't care because I upgraded to a 3/4 TB drive.  In contrast, on my 10.7.1 computer, which has little more than the Apple supplied software on it at this point, uses only 1.5 GB for Application Support.  The support folders will remain even if the program itself is deleted.  As a general rule, I wouldn't bother checking out anything under 300 MB or so.  Any folders over that, you should note for possible deletion _but_ be sure to ask someone with more knowledge about this what it is used for before deleting.  If it is used for some program that isn't on your machine, meaning the program has been deleted, you can safely delete it.  If the program is still on the machine, decide if you will use that program and, if not, delete the program and its application support files.
My next largest folder in the Library is Audio at 2.7 GB.  I have audio editing programs, so that makes sense. You probaby have one also, but shouldn't be over 500 MB or so.
Next is Printers at 1.4 GB.  This is a good place to clear up space.  You'll see folders with various printer brands.  Do you have a Brother printer?  No?  Trash it.  Just keep the folder with your printer brand and the PPD folder and trash the rest.  If you want to get real fancy, open your brands folder and delete the files for every model other than the one you have.
My next largest is Fonts at 490 MB.  Leave that alone. In fact, unless Fonts is something insane like 2 GBs, stop deleting from the Library.
Go to Users.  There could be between one and more than one user.  (Fudge of an answer there.)  There is no such thing as a guideline for user folder size.  Is there a previous user?  If so, check with them and see if you can delete it.  I have a "dummy" administrative - level user that can be used for some esoteric rescue operations and it takes up a trivial 33 KB or something like that while my own account is pushing 100 GB.
You'll see several folders, Music, Pictures, Desktop, etc.  This is stuff you or the previous user have created.  If you don't want it, delete it.  You will also see, aha! another Library folder.  There shouldn't be many folders over 100 MB here except for Mail and our friend Application Support.  I get a lot of mail, rarely delete any, and have carried it over from 10.3 and measures out at 3.7GB.  Still, if its someone elses mail and you don't want it, you can delete it, but again, check with more knowledgable people as there are probably some files and folders you absolutely should not delete, others that you should delete from within Mail, and some you can manually delete.
My Application Support Folder weighs in at 1.4 GBs, of which 1.2 GBs is for Final Vinyl.  That's a lot.  Sneaky sucker stored some untitled audio files in there.  Bye! OK, now the Application Support folder is down to 145 MB.  So, I'd say anything much over that should be investigated for possible deletion.  Close up Library and move on.
Downloads may be very small or very large.  Depends on how meticulous the previous user was in deleting or moving to a more appropriate location.  Ask them if there is anything they want, and if no, delete it.
My Application folder has Zero KB because I always install at the root, administrative level.  If there is anything there, figure out if you want to use it or not.  If not, trash it.
    Overall:
    1) Don't sweat the small stuff.  The days are long gone when searching a hard drive for a 100 K file to delete is worthwhile.
    2) Start small.  A disk that full is going to be pretty touchy, so once you have identified a bloated folder, go inside of it and trash the smaller files and folder, then empty the trash, then delete a few more files, empty the trash, etc.
    3) Don't forget to periodically Repair Permissions and restarting the computer.
    4) If you are unsure about whether a folder or file can be safely deleted, ask someone knowledgable or just knock off for the day and hit it again tomorrow.  Seriously, an unanswerable question you have might well be answered by sleeping on it and attacking it the next day.
    5) As Douglas Adams wrote: DON'T PANIC!
    Best of luck!

  • Message reads: Please insert disk in driver F

Hi. We have 2 iPods in use on our computer (we share the same library). I have just installed iTunes 8 and it was fine when I purchased songs and put them on my iPod. My partner added songs to his iPod yesterday but he got 2 strange messages. First one said "please insert disk in driver F" and the second one said "iPod cannot be ejected as another application is in use". Can anybody tell me what these messages mean please? We had to unplug the iPod ourselves (which we don't like to do) and we also manally update our iPods. Thanks very much.

For the "please insert disk in drive F:" message - do you have a camera, memory stick or other device you can connect to one of the USB ports? If that works, then you should try changing the *[drive letter|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1493]* of your ipod. Give each ipod a different letter, and not something likely to be confused with other removable devices. (ex: I use Q, R, T)
The second message means some other program is also accessing the ipod, could be AV Software, msn messenger, WMP.

Hi, I did download the folder called Adobe Acrobat X suite, which then has a sub folder of the same name which is where the set-up.exe resides. The file size of this is 790KB.

Thanks - any help will greatly appreciated.
However we do have the install files on a file server and it doesn't seem to work form there either - hopefully this hasn't muddied the waters for you.

  • Problem installing CS6: Please insert disk AdobeDesignWebPremium6-EnglishJapan to continue. Only have one disc.

I purchased Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium on disk.  I went to install it today and when the installation got to 2%, it stated "Please insert disk AdobeDesignWebPremium6-EnglishJapan to continue".  I only have the one disk.  Why is it asking me for another one?  I see others have the same problem, but were downloading from the website.  Someone please help me.  It would take forever for me to download, that is why I purchased the disk.  I'm desperate and behind on my work (as I was supposed to receive the disk weeks ago, and it just came to me today).

    Thanks, Klad!  It worked!!!

What does the error message mean and how do I fix it?
