Trouble sharing iMovie project. Up to 50+ hours left, is something wrong?

I've been trying to export this project to a DVD for weeks and I don't know what else to do. I went out and bought more ram so now my computer has 4GB and the imovie project is still taking forever. The hours keep increasing, now it says over 50, but the Activity Monitor says iMovie isn't responding. Do I shut it down or keep waiting days for it to finish? Is something wrong with it? Please help, I've been trying to finish this project for weeks and I don't know what to do. I'm trying to patient but since the AM says it isn't responding I wonder if I'm just wasting time.

I would suggest making your movie into a series of shorter movies. Try to keep them to 20 minutes or less, but you might get one slightly longer if you need it. An hour and 26 minutes is very long for iMovie. If you really need a movie that long, I would suggest Final Cut Pro X.
To make your movie shorter, go to the Project Library View and select your movie so that it is highlighted. Then click FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT and give the duplicate a name, like "Wedding - Reception". Then delete everything except the reception scenes.  You can repeat this process for your other short movies. Be sure to keep your original long movie intact, and only work on the duplicates. If you ever decide to get Final Cut Pro X, you can import this project and do the whole thing.
Congratulations on your wedding.

Hi I am having trouble expiring iMovie projects to YouTube in 720p it works some times but it fails to upload most of the time

A work around is to export from your camera roll.
So export the video to the camera roll.
    Go to Photos app,
and choose export (the arrow pointing out), and choose to go to you tube form there.
It tends to be a little more reliable.
    Hope that helps!
    Also please tell Apple:

They tend not to care about a few things being busted in their equipment, but might fix it if enough people complain.

  • Missing hard drive space after aborted attempt at sharing iMovie project with YouTube

So, recently I tried sharing an iMovie project with YouTube.  I clicked on the project in my project library, then selected share with YouTube from the drop down menu.  I chose to share it as a HD 720 project.  At this point, I had 27 GB of free hard drive space. After the project was converted (or whatever it's called, a process which took about half an hour, and which left me with about 6.5 GB of hard drive space), but before the project was actually exported or shared with or uploaded or published to YouTube (the second step), I saw that it was going to take three hours to upload, so I decided I wanted to share it as a non-HD video, in order to save time and space on my HD.  I cancelled the upload.  I then deleted the project in my imovie projects folder (since it now had the HD logo beside the name), intending to just start over and share the project in 960x540.  Thing is, after deleting every trace of it I could find in iMovie, in my Documents Folder, in my Movies folder, and in iTunes, I only reclaimed 4 GB of space on my hard drive (leaving me with 10 GB).  So what happened to the missing 17 GBs, and how can I get them back?  Also, the amount of space used in order to share that project just seems excessive to me, so I realize that something else might be going on here.  Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Comments?
    Thanks.

  • Problem sharing iMovie project to theater

I'm trying to share an iMovie project to the theater on my computer, not to iCloud. Project is complete, I am not signed in to iCloud. After clicking on the correct project to select it, when I click on "Share" then select theater I get the annoying beep the mac uses when it can't do something. No error message or anything. What do I need to do? Using iMovie version 10.0.3, Mac OS X 10.9.2 on a MacBook Air. Thanks for any help!

I know what the problem is, it's related to Time Machine on laptops running the 10.7 Lion OS.
This requires using the Terminal app, in your Applications/Utilities folder
To turn off Time Machine snapshots type in the following command:
    sudo tmutil disablelocal
The Mac will likely ask for your password, so type it in and hit the return key. The type the word, exit and hit return. Quit Terminal.
Open iMovie and try doing another export and see if the same error message pops up.

  • Trouble with imovie projects

    Hi,
I have a large imovie project, but want to finish it in FCE. How do I import it so A) it will play? B) not have a tone opf space inserted between clips?
What am I doing wrong? HELP.

If you can live with one long clip (that you can cut up as needed in FCE) you can make a dv stream out of your iMovie project and import that. You will have to render the audio and may run into the problem I did of "Out of Memory" when rendering the audio. But you can probably fix the memory problem by erasing unneeded render files.

  • Sharing iMovie project with a PC for editing

I have a Miglia digital converter box that will allow me to take analog tapes and convert them to a digital signal so that I can edit on my Mac. Usually, I create a project in iMovie and then send to iDVD. A PC friend has asked me to convert some home movies on VHS but has asked that I hand off the digital file to him so that he can edit to his tastes on his PC. Essentially, he just needs the conversion, not an iMovie project.
What file do I give to him? Do I bother creating a project in iMovie at all? Should I just do this in QuickTime?

    Hi Daryl
Since QT is a cross platform application you can simply share a QT file with your PC friend. Then whatever video editor is being used, he/she could import the file. Perhaps a better option would be to convert the analog material to DV and pass it through to your mini DV camcorder. Then your friend will have it on tape and can import it directly into the video editor used. Having the material on DV tape may provide a storage solution for the "longer term" as a DVD disk can get damaged fairly easily. Then you'll spare yourself the time to redo the conversion.
Anyway, capture in iM and share to play though to the camcorder. Make sure the camcorder settings are set to 16 bit so you won't later get audio/video drifting out of sync.
    Regards
    Carl

  • Problem sharing iMovie project with media browser

Having prepared a movie in IMovie I tried to share it with media browser at 1020p HD.  After 2 hours of processing I got the following error message.  What does it mean and what can I do to fix?  I shared at the mobile level and it worked.
"Unable to prepare project for publishing.
The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (File already open with with write permission)"

  • Sharing iMove Projects Libraries with different users on the same machine

I was wonder how two different users on the same machine can
    share project libraries. Some Context:
My daughter has some finished projects in her project library and
I either want to import those project into my library or share them
so both user accounts can access the projects (similar to how the
    event library is accessible)
Note: I've already moving the project library to a shared disk (the one
the event library is on) with no luck
    Using iMove 09

You need to move each project to the external drive from within iMovie. Be sure to use command-drag so you move, not copy.

  • Size limits in sharing iMove Project to iTunes

How large (or long, if you prefer) a movie can I share from iMovie to iTunes? I tried one that was over three hours long, and after several hours of rendering, iMovie gave me a message that the movie was too long. I'm NOT trying to create a DVD; rather, I just want to export my home movies to iTunes so I can watch them via my Apple TV. My best choice would be to create one huge movie spanning the entire 20 years' worth of home movies I have, but I'm guessing it would take a year or so to render
    But what is the limit?

How did you get it there? Was it an import from iMovie or other homegrown project? I've got DVD rips that size but I got the error message when I was doing the export from iMovie.

  • Error when sharing imovie projects.

    Hi all,
I'm using OS X 10.9.4 and iMovie 10.0.4. None sharing option is working for me. I always get this:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)
Tried to google for an answer but nothing.
Hope you can find it out, please.
    Cheers,
    Pedro

Get the camera connection kit to share video.
But I believe you cannot share projects without a computer.
I got the camera connection kit and it is perfect for the situation you describe.
You can grab photos and video from other cameras including the iPhone.

  • Sharing iMovie project

I have create a project in iMovie and am attempting to share to the theater.  The share icon when clicked does nothing.  And when I select share in the drop down menu, it's an option (it's in bold) but their are no options appearing from the arrow.
There used to be a finalize project step you had to go through, but this doesn't appear either.  The specific project I am trying to share is "selected" (has a yellow box around it) but I am getting no where in finalziing and share.
    Thanks!

Kirk,  I did have to remove mackeeper, but this alone did not solve the problem.  I also had to remove and reinstall imovie.  Thank you for your help.

  • Having trouble transferring iMovie project

Hi - I'm pretty new to iMovie.  I'm trying to transfer an iMovie '11 project from a MacBook Air to an iMac.  I found the right page on Apple Support.  It says you can use USB stick and that you simply hit "command" and drag the small icon of the project to the USB (when looking in iMovie at the project library list).  I can see the USB in the library, and I can drag the icon but it won't transfer.
    Any ideas?

    Where did you read that?
As far as I know, you cannot use a flash memory drive for this purpose.

  • I keep getting an error message when sharing iMovie Project to iDVD.

the message I keep getting (after waiting for the agonizing time to render it) is either (-108) or (-50). It is aggravating when it gives NO description of what needs fixed. how do I find the codes to fix my project?

The error message says, “An error occurred while trying to access the service.  I have a PC with Windows 7, I don’t know if the PDF was created in Adobe, the document contains text and tables.
I had this problem before when I logged on to the Adobe website and tried to concert a document from there.  The person who helped me then was unable to figure out why I was getting the error message.  He told me to open the Adobe reader and convert the document from there.  That has worked until now.  I tried to logon to the Adobe website and convert from there, but get the same error message.
Any help you can provide to resolve this issue is greatly appreciated.  The Adobe converter has been extremely helpful for our Department and I would hate to not have this valuable tool.
    Thank you,
    Suzanne

  • I have 2 Macs, connected to the same Wifi network. But sometimes, the shared computers does not appear on the left hand menu of the toolbar for me to access shared folders between the computers. Am I doing something wrong?

I recently bought a MacBook Air for work. Whilst at home, both my Macbooks are connected to the same Wifi network. Sometimes, the 2 Macbooks are connected and I can access the shared folders, which is great. However, every now and again, the connection seems to be lost. Is there something I need to set up so that every time both Macbooks are switched on and connected to my Wifi, it will automatically be linked?
    Any help is much appreciated!

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

  • Unopenable/missing iMovie project

Oh, no, the iMovie project I spent two hours on yesterday morning doesn't appear in the Project window of iMovie and will not open when I double-click on it from the Finder
I've browsed this forum and found several threads asking about things like this (going back to 2008!), but no answers.
Everything was fine yesterday, nothing weird happened, it's not a complex project.  I imported Events from my camera, started a new project, made a few edits with just 4 clips, a few crossfades and titles, simple stuff.  There were no external drives connected, the camera had been ejected and disconnected.  All the Events are still there, but the project doesn't show up in iMovie's project list.
The Project file is there in the Finder (user/Movies/iMovie Projects) with a size of 9.8 MB, and the proper time/date it was saved.  I have tried:
    restarting iMovie
    rebooting
restarting iMovie by double-clicking on this Project
dragging the project into the iMovie Project list (it just bounces back).
I have had no problem with this rig doing many similar projects.  Any ideas?
    MacBook Pro, OS X 10.8.4, iMovie '11 9.0.9

FYI, I did NOT mess around in the Finder, moving things in and out of the iMovie folders. iMovie did not crash, it closed normally.  The Info window of the project that won't open does identify it as an iMovie Project.
The only anomaly about this project that makes it different from any of my others, is that two of the clips I dragged in were not in the "iFrame" format; they were AVCHD.  I can't recall when it was (during importing as an Event, or dragging the Event into the project) that there was a small warning sentence something like, "this file may not play back in as high quality as the original".
Yet, in the Viewer window, everything was fine, transitions/crossfades worked, I could put titles over those clips, etc.
