When trying to watch a movie out of my library, it often stops and returns to the home page. Is this common, or how xan this be fixed

Apple TV Having troubles streaming from itunes

Hi,
I have just recently got the apple tv 2 for christmas and i have discovered that when ever i try to watch something from my windows 7 laptop i can only watch one thing then when i try to watch something else i just get the spinning cog/wheel for an hour then it times out. i can fix this by closing itunes on my laptop then reopening it but this is very annoying. All my media in itunes comes off my network hard drive (iomega home media network hard drive [with an itunes server]) i have no idea weather this has anything to do with it but i sure hope it doesn't. Any help will be fantastic!

Apple TV will only automatically download new episodes if you purchased the show originally from the Apple TV. E.g., I purchased an HD seasons pass of a Sanctuary Season 2. Every week the HD episode would download to my Apple TV... the SD version had to be downloaded to my iMac. FYI, the HD episode syncs from your Apple TV back to your computer like any other purchase on your Apple TV.
For another TV seasons pass I purchased via iTunes on my iMac, it will only download episodes to my iMac and then syncs to my Apple TV.
Re: the second question on iTunes, I leave iTunes running all the time. It only checks for new downloads when I pick Check For Available Downloads while running. On start-up you need to set the Automatically Check for Available Downloads in iTunes preferences on the Store tab.

Is it possible to sync AND stream from the same iTunes library?

I am having trouble in setting up sync AND stream from the same iTunes library.
Config :
Mac OS - Latest update 5/6/09
iTunes - Latest update 5/6/09
Apple TV - Latest update 5/6/09
I am able to either sync OR Stream from my iTunes library but not sync AND stream from the same iTunes library
Let's say i want to sync :
Go to Apple TV > Settings > computer
Add Library (Not shared for Syncing)
Enter passcode in iTunes and select the items to sync
After sync is complete
You can see photo, music & video in My Photos, My Music & My Videos.
Let's say now my Apple TV is full
So like to stream some other content
Now
Go to Apple TV > Settings > computer
Add SHARED Library
Passcode is shown in apple TV but not able to Enter it in iTunes (click to set link is not there next to Apple TV item under devices)
To get that you have to right click the apple tv from the devices and select don't sync.
You will get a message saying that all content in apple TV will get deleted.
If you say yes then only the passcode screen for streaming is presented.
So i am not able to sync AND stream from the same iTunes library.
Any idea?

no... both synced and streamed content show up all together. there is no way to tell what content is synced or streamed when looking at it on the appletv. it is seemless as in there is no difference in how it is presented.
you also need to make sure you are using "custom sync" rather than "automatic sync", as you can't select the "show only synced content" box when using "automatic sync".

Sync and stream from the same library?

Prior to upgrading to ATV2, I was able to access 'unchecked' items in my iTunes library from my ATV. This is the iTunes library that I am also syncing from.
This allowed me to stream items that I didn't want to sync.
I would do this by going to the 'sources' option and directly selecting my Mac Based iTunes library, rather than the ATV library.
With the new update, can you still stream unchecked items from the same iTunes library that you are syncing too?
If so how?
If not, I think this is a major let down???
Any help much appreciated.

Depends on what you mean by unchecked.
If you don't check items in the sync options window (from device list) they won't get synced, but they will get streamed provided the item is checked alongside it's title in the main library window. If an item isn't checked alongside it's title in the main library window then it won't sync or stream.
All synced and streamed content from the same library now appears in a single list on the tv, namely 'my movies, my tv shows etc'. Only content from a secondary (streaming only) library will appear in a separate list on the tv, namely 'shared libraries'.

Syncing & Streaming from the same Library? - Noob question

Good Evening - I have a silly noob question that I can't believe I can't find the answer to on my own: I have been trying to determine if it is possible to sync and stream from the same library simultaneously.
I purchased the 40GB aTV and it has been syncing just fine with my Windows iTunes. I told it not to sync a few albums I never listen to so I wouldn't have issues with other songs or movies. I am upgrading to a new iMac and I am am going to re-rip many of my existing CD's to get them into a consistent audio quality of 192 AAC or above. This is going to push my library size to well over the 40GB limit in just music, not including any movies or TV shows I choose to pull in.
The manual does not make it obvious (or I am not reading clearly) what happens to items that don't sync over - I assume they are still playable but will have to stream. Is there anyway to mark "preferred" albums or artists that should get synced and not streamed in case the iTunes library is unavailable for whatever reason?
Also, when I change libraries is the aTV going to completely re-sync even though the music is must going to be migrated?

That's not quite what I was looking for.
My question remains, what happens to the items that can't be synced from my main library to my aTV? My library is just a smidge bigger than the available space on the aTV and not everything syncs over. Does that mean I won't be able to play those items not synced from my main library...
As my library grows I don't want to have to choose what does and doesn't get synced from my library by mood. For example, every year my wife buys new christmas music - right now I could exclude it and everything else gets copied over, but come thanksgiving that stuff better be there for her and I don't want to choose other music or movies to remove.
I guess I will just have to play to try it out.

It just says not connected, and as soon as it bails to menu, it connects again and will play for another minute before doing the same thing all over again.

Why do I have all the photos streamed from my desktop library in a photostream album in my desktop library as well

I've just noticed that all the photos that are in my main iPhoto library are now also in the Photo Stream album. Have they been streamed to my devices and then streamed back? Or does iPhoto set up a separate album for photos to be streamed?

Because you have this checked in iPhoto's Photo Stream preferences:
Uncheck that checkbox. Go into your Photo Stream in iPhoto, select the photos you don't want on your mobile devices, do a Control (right) - click and select Delete from Photo Stream from the contextual menu:

In iPhoto, moving Photo Stream from 'recents' to 'library'

As per the title.
In iPhoto, I have Photo Stream set up fine (ish). I want all my photos to be imported to iPhoto but I want them in a folder of their own. I have set up a smart folder to import any photos that are named 'IMG_'. This works if I choose for photo stream to be automatically imported into photos, events and places etc (which eventually I want to turn off but still have them smartly imported).
However, I've found it only smartly imports photos from any albums under the Library tab, and not from the Recents tab (where photo stream is). Therefore, is there any way to move the location of photo stream from Recents to under Library instead?

'Recents' are just some handy shortcuts to material frequently (or recently) accessed. The last couple of items, the last import and so on. Again, it's not a place, it's a list. The Photostream is a link to the items in the stream - stored in your Users/Library Application Support (you can see this simply by going File -> Reveal in Finder), but the Photostream Events point directly to material stored in the Library Package.
I would like my photo stream photos imported into an album other than the general Photos album in my library.
You're going to need to clarify terms a little. You're using folders and albums interchangeably and they're not the same thing, and sometimes you're using either to refer to Events.
Every Photo is in the LIbrary.
The Library can be viewed in wo ways: via Events or Photos. That's exactly the same material viewed from different perspectives.
Every photo in the Library is in an Event, and these correspond to the folders they are stored in on the HD, at time of import (though this can change, shots moved from Event to Event do not move on the HD)
Albums are arbitrary collections created by the user. You decide what photos are in an Album. Photos in an Album reference the actual shots in the Library. They don't use any extra disk space.
Folders cannot contain Photos. They can contain Albums or other Folders.
So, if you can clarify exactly what you're hoping for perhaps we can figure out a way to achieve it.

You can't stream from a paired computer's Itunes Library??

Ok, maybe I'm missing something but I don't see a way to add a shared library if the library is the one your paired with? I don't want to have to copy over every video or movie to watch it.
Is it just me or is pairing a computer make it so you can't stream anymore?

A library can only be a sync (primary) or a streaming (shared) library, the streaming only libraries show up under My Shared TV Shows/Movies etc, whereas the sync library when available also makes streaming content available under the My TV Shows/Movies etc menu.
That is the standard behaviour.
You can force the sync libray not to stream by checking 'show only synced' in the Device tab in iTunes.
In Settings>Computers on AppleTV the primary sync library (that also streams) is the top entry , the stream libraries are below the top one.
Are youi maybe trying to sync from one user account and stream from another on the same computer? I've found that 2 open user accounts with iTunes running don't always work with only one showing up.

Having trouble streaming NBA league pass from my MBP to my TV in full screen mode, help please.

So i have the Moshi mini dp and the apple hdmi cable. I cannot stream from my MBP to my TV in FULL sceen mode cleanly with 720p resolution. When NOT hooked up to my TV the MBP has no problem going fullscreen perfectly, then, when I connect the mini dp to the MBP and TV it gets messed up on both the TV and MBP. The last caveat is that it streams PERFECTLY in NON full screen mode, but, the second I change it to full screen, blamo! It gets all messed up. One thing I did that is really just a 'work around' was decreased my resolution, no longer 720p >:( and this is not satisfactory to me. Any suggestions?

Any help to increase the resolution quality of my DV file will be EXTREMELY HELPFUL.
For faster editing iMovie 08 & 09 uses single-field processing. This means every other horizontal line of the video is thrown out, which reduces the sharpness of the footage. iMovie 06 uses all of the image, I think you will find it looks better.
iMovie 06 and iDVD 09 is a terrific combination.

By shear coincidence, my Sky TV has flagged up the exact same issue at the same time, despite being problem freem for 3 years ?? So nothing on my TV except YouTube. Looking at the amount of forum content on this matter, Apple know this is a problem.
It's too much of a coincidence not to be related. I requested a phone call at 8:45 this morning, which happened to be 9:00, so I'd left the house. The useless guy said he'd email me something to help..... and I'm still waiting for that email.
I've tried swapping HDMI cables, resetting Sky and Apple TV, resetting the router, changing resolution in the Audio Visual settings, switching on in different sequences.... I'm lost with it.
Is Apple now run by monkeys ? This is beyond a joke. How can an update ruin everything ?

TS3989 how can I share a photo stream from my mac? there's no check box in system preferences to turn it on

I've been having trouble to share my photo stream with other from my mac. Once I selecte the photos and click share>photo stream, nothing else happens. The option for "new photo stream" does not appear, neither the field where you type in the email addresses from people you whant to share it with. I all ready checked in iphoto'11> system Pref.> photo stream and there's no "shared photo strem" check box to turn on or off... I also checked in my mac system pref to be sure that my icloud is enabled and it is.
If I select photos and then go to my tool bar and press share. the option of photo stream is not available.
I also can't accept any shared photo stream from other and view it in my iphoto. I can only access it via web.
I DO can use my photo stream correctly and share it via my iphone. and every picture that I take uploads into my mac and every photo I import from cameras into my iphoto also uploads fine into my Ph stream. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I CAN'T SHARE THEM FROM MY MAC.....
Please can someone help me?

You turn on Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Stream preference pane:
Check the box "Automatic Upload" to add every photo imported into the library to the Photo Stream. Or leave it unchecked and manually add just selected photos to the stream by dragging them onto the Photo Stream heading in the left hand pane.
