Trouble with boolean logic

//StringBuffer underscoreBufferWord = new StringBuffer ()
//StringBuffer stringBufferWord = new StringBuffer()
//I have also tried ; if (underscoreBufferWord == stringBufferWord)
I cannot get the logic to return true and print "you did it" It always skips to else.
if (underscoreBufferWord.equals(stringBufferWord))
System.out.println("You did it");
result = 1;
else
if (numOfWrongGuesses == 7)
result = 0;
System.out.println("You lose");
Thank you for you comments

Okay, I can see where it's not as obvious as I might have made it out to be.
You'll notice two main sections: Methods that SB defines or overrides, and Methods inherited from class java.lang.Object.
The fact that equals appears in the latter, rather than the former, tells you that it uses Object's equals, which returns true if and only if obj == this.
For SB to have content-comparing semantics, it would have to override equals, which means equals would appear with the rest of the SB-specific methods. It would probably (though not necessarily) also inlude an explanation of what it does.

  • Trouble with Skip Logic

    I keep getting the following message when I try to add skip logic to my questions.
    This is what my form currently looks like:
    The other weird thing is if I have an identical question before it (as shown below), I can add only add skip logic to the second question (I get the previously mentioned error for the first question). It won't show me any of my other pages or questions (last screenshot on bottom).
    I have loved using FormsCentral, but this is the only thing that is very frustrating. Any help to get this issue resolved would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

    > I would like to have people choose their location and when they click next, see questions that are meant for their location
    Do you have dedicated pages in your form for the location-specific content? If so, you should be adding Page skip logic. If not, you need to start by selecting the form items that are the targets of the rule. For example, say you have a field "Field 23" on page 2, that should only be shown when the "Jacksonville" option is selected, you would do the following:
    1. Select the "Field 23" field
    2. Click the "Show/Hide Item" checkbox
    3. Click the "Add Condition" button
    4. Select the "Please select your current location" field in the condition field drop-down
    5. Select the "Jacksonville" item in the value drop-down
    Hopefully this information allows you to get a little further.

    The amount of RAM is not dependant on the operating system. It is all about the model of you Mac.
    10.6.8 is the version of OS X that is installed on your system. It has no real baring on the amount of RAM that CAN be installed.
    Personally I have never had good luck with Corsair RAM. I have always had good luck with Crucial and Kingston.

  • A trouble with "LIKE" in a select statement

    Hi!
    I'm having trouble with "LIKE" in a select statement...
    With Access I can make the following and everything works well:
    SELECT name, birthday
    FROM client
    WHERE birthday LIKE '*/02/*';
    but if try to do it in my application (it uses Access), it doesn't work - I just can't understand that!!!
    In my application the "month" is always the currently month taken from the "System". Look what I'm doing...
    String query1 = "SELECT name, birthday " +
              "FROM client " +
              "WHERE birthday " +
              "LIKE '*/" +
              pMonth +
              "/*' " +
              "ORDER BY birthday ASC ";
    ResultSet rs = statement1.executeQuery(consulta1);
    boolean moreRecords = rs.next();
    The variable "moreRecords" is always "false", the query returns nothing although the table "client" has records that attend the query.
    Please, anyone can help me?! It's a little bit urgent.
    Thanks,
    Katia.

    Hi Katia,
    I'll bet the problem lies with the characters you're using to escape the LIKE clause. You're using the ones that Access likes to see, but that's not necessarily what's built into the JDBC-ODBC driver class.
    You can find out what the correct escape wildcard characters are from the java.sql.DatabaseMetaData.getSearchStringEscape() method. It'll tell you what to use in the LIKE clause.
    I'm not 100% sure about your code. It doesn't use query1 anywhere. I'd do this:
    String query = "SELECT name, birthday FROM client WHERE birthday LIKE ? ORDER BY birthday ASC";
    PreparedStatement statement = connection.createStatement(query);
    String escape = connection.getMetaData().getSearchStringEscape();
    String test = escape + '/' + pMonth + '/' + escape;
    statement.setString(1, test);
    ResultSet rs = statement.executeQuery();
    while (rs.hasNext())
    // load your data into a data structure to pass back.
    rs.close();
    statement.close();Let me know if that works. - MOD

  • Trouble with 3rd party VST installs for Garageband, can't find instruments

    Hi,
    I am having trouble with Audio Units for Garageband when installing 3rd party software, VSTs, loops, instruments. I have more issues with Logic Pro. I am hoping that it is the same underlying issue and that I am just missing something. I have the manuals (not great for troubleshooting). I am confused with some installs use User Library and others use the Computer Library. I do go to the mfgs sites for updates. The installs sometimes work as standalones but I don't see ALL of the components of the software in say Garageband or Logic. Mostly, I am missing the "instruments" and "loops" that I want to access within the DAW. Some examples:
    • Here is some of the software I am talking about:  East West sample libraries (Play and Native Instruments); Vienna Symphonic librarires; Sylenth1 (just last night); Sample Tank 2 and Total Workstation 2 from IK Multimedia and others.
    • In GB I see the Audio Units for Vienna, Play, Sylenth, some of the IK Multimedia but NOT any instruments when I go to the "Sound Generator" -- I seem to be missing the instruments and loops. I see less AUs in Logic Pro. Some of these are VST instruments.
    • Can I just drag-drop samples to the library folders to fix this?
    • The plug-ins do not seem to work (though Sylenth1 worked for a single sound). When there is a standalone app (as in Sample Tank), I finally got the "sounds" to be reinstalled and loaded, those sounds/samples don't show up in any DAW.
    • When and if the sounds/loops/samples show up in GB's "Instruments" section will I be able to tell that they belong to that particular software or library?
    Thanks in advance.
    John

    Found the answer myself, it was simple:
    • Select the Track
    • Show the Instrument (info area)
    • Click on Edit
    • Click on the "Sound Generator" pop up field.
    • At the bottom of the pop-up list, select from the Audio Units that you have installed. This is where you see "Sample Tank 2, Vienna Instruments..."
    • NEXT -- IMPORTANT:   CLICK ON THE PICTURE next to the Sound Generator pop-up field.The AU unit loads up, the interface pops up, you load up the instruments in this AU Unit. You do NOT see the sounds from the AU unit in the normal Apple instrument list.
    This was not intuitive but once you know it, fairly simple.
    Still, the devil is in the details -- more questions on the way.

  • Having trouble with wav files and sample rates

    Hi ,I am having trouble with wav files and sample rates .I have been sent multiple projects on wav as the main instrumental ; I wish to record in 48.000kHz .Now comes the problem.When I try to change the project to 48k It seems to pitch up the track.I can't have them send the logic/project file as most have outboard synths,different plug ins etc.This particular case the producer has recorded the synth task in 41.000 kHz .My successful outcome would be to be able t create a project file in 48 kHz .And NOT pitch up whne I add the instrumenta wav file .Any help would be gratefully recieved,this is my first post so any mistakes I may have made go easy

    You'll have to convert the actual synth audio file file that the producer gave you to 48kHz. You can do this in the audio Bin in Logic.

  • Having trouble with throws...

    Hey there.
    I'm fairly new to java so bear with me here.
    I'm having trouble with a program that, in short, reads from a file.
    Let me shorten a show the code to you...
    //main opens up and in a bit we get to...
    if (loginVerify())
    //and the if continues.
    fileIn.close();
    //main ends
    public boolean loginVerify() throws IOException
         openIn(); //Checks for validity - It's a long story why I //didn't just put the code in loginVerify(). I //don't think it should matter.
    String str = verifyLog(); //Does the actual reading
         str = str.substring(1);
         if (str == placeHold) //Don't worry about not making placeHold,
    //I made it global for testing reasons.
              return true;
         else
              return false;
    private String verifyLog() throws IOException
         String str;
         while (true)
              str = fileIn.readLine();
              if (str == null)
                   break;
              else if (str.charAt(0) == 1)
                   return str;
              //ADDITION OF OTHER NUMBERS
              else
                   return str = "invalid";
    private void readIn() throws IOException
         BufferedReader console =
    new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
    openInputFile(fileName);
    if (fileIn == null)
    System.out.println("*** Can't open " + fileName + " ***");
    return;
    private static void openInputFile(String fileName)
    try
    fileIn = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(fileName));
    catch (FileNotFoundException e)
    So it's fairly simple. It checks for validity and then reads lines until it finds one with the first char as '1' when it finds it, it reads the rest of the line off.
    The error I'm getting is as follows: Exception java.io.IOException must be caught, or it must be declared in the throws clause of this method.
    I've added throws IOException to them in attempts to fix the error but to no avail. I've tryed putting the catch in different spots... again, doesn't work.
    I'm using codewarrior IDE version 5. I'm fairly sure it's the newest. I installed Java SDK 1.3 with codewarrior originally but I installed 1.4.1 recently.
    If you need to see anything else about it, please tell me. I'd be more than happy to post a little more if it'll help.
    Thanks

    Ok. I worked through a bunch of throws and now I've found one I can't seem to conquer.
    private String verifyLog()
           String str = "";
           while (true)
                try {
                str = fileIn.readLine();
                catch (FileNotFoundException g) {
                if (str == null)
                     break;
                else if (str.charAt(0) == 1)
                     return str;
                //ADDITION OF OTHER PEOPLE
                else
                     return str = "invalid";
           return str = "invalid";
      }This time the error is at the reference to readLine() and it tells me the same error as before. I have a catch set up there, don't I?
    readLine() is something I didn't create so I don't know how I'd tell it to throw an exception if I had to...
    Thanks

  • Having trouble with creating objects from instances created with ClassLoade

    Hi.
    I'm having a bit of trouble with casting an instance of an object from a custom ClassLoader. Don't worry - the code isn't for anything sinister - it's for one of those life simulation thingies, but I want to make it modular so people can write their own 'viruses' which compete for survival. You know the score.
    Anyway. I've got the beginnings of my main class, which seems to load the class data for all 'virus' classes in a folder called 'strains'. There is a abstract class called AbstractVirus which declares the method calls for how the viruses should behave and to get textual descriptions, etc. AbstractVirus is to be subclassed to create working virus classes and these are what my main class is trying to load instances of.
    Unfortuantely, I can't cast the instances into AbstractVirus objects. The error I've been getting is 'ClassCastException' which I presume is something to do with the fact that my ClassLoader and the Bootstrap ClassLoader aren't seeing eye-to-eye with the class types. Can anyone help? This line of programming is really new to me.
    My code for the main class is below:
    /* LifeSim.java */
    public class LifeSim {
      public LifeSim() {
        /* Get a list of all classes in the 'strains' directory and store non-
         * abstract classes in an array. */

        try {

           * from it. */
          java.io.File modulesFolder = new java.io.File("strains");
          if (!modulesFolder.isDirectory() || !modulesFolder.canRead()) {
         System.out.println("Failed to find accessible 'strains' folder");
         System.exit(-1);
          /* Get a list of all the class files in the folder. */
          String virusFiles[] = modulesFolder.list(new ClassFileFilter());
          if (virusFiles.length == 0) {
         System.out.println("No virus strains in 'strains' folder");
         System.exit(-1);
          /* Create an array of class objects to store my Virus classes. Ignore the
           * abstract class as I cannot instantiate objects directly from it.*/
          virusClasses = new Class[virusFiles.length];
          VirusClassLoader classLoader = new VirusClassLoader();
          int j = 0;
          for (int i = 0; i < virusFiles.length; i++) {
         String virusName = "strains/" + virusFiles;
         Class tempClass = classLoader.loadClass(virusName);
         if (tempClass.getName().compareToIgnoreCase("strains.AbstractVirus") != 0) {
         virusClasses[j++] = tempClass;
    } catch (ClassNotFoundException ncfe) {
    System.out.println("Failed to access virus class files.");
    ncfe.printStackTrace();
    System.exit(-1);

    if (virusClasses.length > 0) {
    try {

         System.out.println(virusClasses[0].getName());
         Object o = virusClasses[0].newInstance();

         // Print the virus name and it's description
         System.out.println(av.getQualifiedName());
         System.out.println(av.getDescription());
    } catch (InstantiationException ie) { ie.printStackTrace(); }
         catch (IllegalAccessException iae) { iae.printStackTrace(); }
    public static void main(String args[]) {

    byte classbytes[] = new byte[fis.available()];
    fis.read(classbytes);
    fis.close();
    return classbytes;
    } catch (java.io.IOException ioex) {
    return null;
    public Class findClass(String classname) throws ClassNotFoundException {
    byte classbytes[] = findClassData(classname);
    if (classbytes == null) throw new ClassNotFoundException();
    else {
    return defineClass(legalClassName, classbytes, 0, classbytes.length);
    Thank you in advance
    Morgan

    Two things:
    I think your custom ClassLoader isn't delegating. In general a ClassLoader should begin by asking it's parent ClassLoader to get a class, and only if the parent loader fails get it itself. AFAIKS you could do what you're trying to do more easilly with URLClassLoader.
    Second, beware that a java source file can, and often does, generate more than one class file. Ignore any class files whose names contain a $ character. It's possible you are loading an internal class which doesn't extend your abstract class.

  • Troubles with effects and colors in FCPX 10.1.4

    Hi to everybody.
    I have a problem with colors using the effects.
    Lets look at more less neutral picture (picture no 1)
    ftp://ftp.strefa.pl/Zrzut%20ekranu%202014-12-16%20o%2022.34.30%20%283%29.jpg
    If you look at the RGB Parade you see the down part of the RGB distribution is ok.
    But if I start to use any effects the Parade changes in this way:
    ftp://ftp.strefa.pl/Zrzut%20ekranu%202014-12-16%20o%2022.34.54%20%283%29.jpg
    You see, that the down part of the color distribution (for all 3: red. green and blue) is cut-off, even when I use the effects which shouldn't influence on the color.
    I spent some hours to find any logic, and I discovered following regularity:
    1. The source movie I imported came from Nikon D7100 (.mov), 1920/1080i
    2. The behavior of FCPX during the playback of those clips is crazy and ustable (few seconds like in pict.1 few second like in pic. 2).
    3. I have instaled the newest versions of Nikon D7100 firmware and of course FCPX 10.1.4. I think (not 100% sure) the trouble with FCPX appeared after 10.1.4 update.
    4. I don't have any troubles with other camcorder (Canon XF 100)
    Did somebody have simillar effects / troubles with FCPX? Any solutions? I have a job to do, and this situation completly devastating my deadlines.

    You would probably find more direct help by talking to other Nikon shooters who use FCPX. M
    I don't know anything about the Nikon codec or why it might be giving you trouble while others do not but have you tried simply transcoding the footage to ProRes422? Your files will expand by a factor or three or four but you will not have these difficulties.

  • Trouble with booting system after upgrade udev= systemd

    Hi everybody,
    I have been trouble with my system since last upgrade (udev => systemd)
    My issue is something like this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1106157 but advice from this discussion doesn't work.
    When system booting, *immediately* (very fast, too fast) display login screen after start parsing hook [udev]
    Of course, i can't login - type username and i have redraw screen again on all /dev/tty* - i have no chance to type password.
    Many invalid logins suspend init for 5 minutes and allow me see display error due stop redraw screen - libpam.so.0 cannot find.
    I suspect that, partitions aren't mount (this fast login screen doesn't have even hostname). I have a 4 discs, with many partitions - mounting
    this take a some time (+- 5 secs).
    In rescuecd, i can mount all partitions and chroot. In chroot all works fine - /bin/login (i was checked authorization on all users),
    paths and pams are ok. Of course i try ,,default rescue trick'': `pacman -Suy linux udev mkinitcpio` and 'mkinitcpio -p linux' on rescuecd
    but nothing it's changed after reboot. I checking grub config, and unpack and check initramfs-linux.img - all ok.
    In my mkinitcpio.conf ofcourse i have MODULES="ext3" (for my filesystems).
    Please help.

    I have my /usr partition in the same partition as /  (but /boot is in a different partition)
    Logic tells me I'm safe (haven't rebooted yet), as / is "master", and anything else is a separate partition, and I have /usr on the same partition as /.
    Do you guys have separate /usr and/or /boot partitions?  As stated in first sentence this may not be related, but looks important...
    It means separate from /. So yes, you're right, you are "safe" from having to do anything with this message on your system.
    And to the other people on this thread: make sure you do have all your packages uniformly updated, including any pam-related AUR or ABS-build packages. libpam and the pam module directory (.../lib/security) were moved from /lib to /usr/lib a little while back, so make sure that anything that cares about where these may be have been updated so they aren't confused by this move.

  • Aggregation Befre Calculation with Boolean Operator (BW3.5)

    Dear All,
      Here I am trying to create a 'Calculated Key Figure' with some logical expression to verify the value of other columns(ie: stock value = 0, market value = 0...etc) and I would like to calculate the result 'Before Aggregation'; Somehow, the calculated key figure with Boolean Operator can not be chosen as 'Before Aggregation'. I tried to create 2nd CKF to include the 1st CKF so that I am able to select the 2nd CKF as 'Before Aggregation', but the result just dont seem to be right.
      Any Idea to do this kinda calculation? Thanks a lot.
    B.R
    Charlie

    Instead of creating a calculated Key Figure, create a formula in the query and try whether it is giving a desired output??

  • Can Visual Composer make decisions based on boolean logic?

    I need to know if I can use Visual Composer to manipulate data results based on boolean logic.  Basically, if a  month is less than the current month, I want a formula to dispay A instead of B. Can this be done?
    Can I also say, if current month is greater than this month then hide values, else show values?

    In that case you don't need VC. I would then directly do that with BEx Query Designer and the use of a formula and boolean operators there. Here is the help of how you can achieve that:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/23/17f13a2f160f28e10000000a114084/content.htm
    Once you created sthe query this way, you can use the BEx Analyzer to embed it in Excel, and then use Information Broadcasting to schedule the calculations.
    Of course if your requirements change and displayint that data in VC is good enough, then you can still go as mentioned in my answers above

  • Compound boolean logic scripting

    Greetings!  I would like to pick everyone's brains for how one might implement compound boolean logic scripting in LabVIEW ... specifically LabVIEW-RT.
    My application is an in-vehicle data acquistion and logging setup.  The app is setup so that the user provides a configuration file which is the list of channels (GPS, DAQ, CAN) that they wish to record...so this means there isn't any hard coded variable but an array of clusters built from the configuration file.
    A mode of operation is a 'trigger' mode, which means the logger doesn't record anything until a trigger has occured.  Currently the user provides a simple comparator (0=lessthan, 1=equalto, 2=greaterthan, else=none), and the trigger value.
    The users want to be able do compound conditions like PARAMETER <= x OR Parameter >= y ... possiblly even between 2 different data points like PARAMETER_A <= x AND PARAMETER_B >=y.
    Any comment, hints, tips, suggestions ?
    Thanks!
    Jason Stallard

    Jason,
    It's interesting how often the problem of text-based scripting to drive LV pops up.
    I had a problem with similar properties: given a set of data and an
    arbitrary set of rules, substitute data into each rule and see if it
    evaluates to true or false.  This is used to provide directions
    from engineers to operators on how to perform failure analysis and
    recovery, without the engineer needing to be present.
    The problem that I ran into turns out to not be in evaluating the data
    and rules, but in parsing the arbitrary input equation.  There
    just isn't any general way inherent to LV to parse an arbitrary text
    language into an intermediate form (like a postfix expression or an
    abstract syntax tree).  A relative lack of recursion makes it a
    little more painful as well.
    I can't release my code, but it essentially had three parts:
    1.  In a given rule in infix form (variableA<7, for instance),
    perform macro replacement.  Essentially, substitute values for
    variable names, perform file lookups, etc.
    2.  Transform the substituted infix equation into a much easier to
    deal with postfix equation.  (Thanks to Mike Porter for this
    suggestion as well).  This step can be non-trivial.  I'm
    currently building an editor that will build equations more easily,
    sparing my engineers much pain.
    3.  Evaluate the postfix equation for a single true/false
    result.  This algorithm should be available in many books, but I
    adapted the one from an earlier version of this book:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0201702975/qid=1137608429/sr=2-3/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_3/103-3337903-1387046?s=books&v=glance&n=283155
    It also contains a short description of a stack-based parser that's fairly easy to implement for step 2.
    Anyway, there's my 2 cents.  Maybe someday I'll find time to write
    that LV based parser generator to "simplify" all of this   Good
    luck!
    Joe Z.

  • Implies Boolean Logic

    Hi guys,
    just a bit stuck on something.
    In my programs i've been using a shift register and a not-implies boolean function to perform an action once only, when a value changed from false to true
    in boolean logic how would I spot a change so that a true to false change will provide true, but other states false?
    any help very much appreciated - got a bit of a hangover and my brain isn't flying at full-mast!
    cheers!

    Since the state of (one true/one false) has a different output depending on the motor running or not, you need a shift register to store the motor state. Only if both are equal, the state should change.
    The attached codelet shows one possibility.
    (edit: replaced booleans with counters in image. Thanks tst)Message Edited by altenbach on 04-03-2005 02:14 PM

  • Boolean Logic in the Page

    Hi!
    I have a beginners problem that seems very trivial, but I can simply not find the solution. How do you do boolean logic in a JSF page. I want to be able to hide some buttons depending on some data in the bean, but I do not know how to do that. I guess what I am after is the equivalent of the Struts <logic:equal> and <logic:notEqual> tags.

    Magnus

    Use rendered attribute.
    For example:
    <h:commandButton value="Edit" action="edit" rendered="#{MyBean.editable}" />
    In this example, editable should be a bean property with type Boolean and public getter.
    Generally, you can use any expression based on JSF EL (JavaServer Faces Expression Language).
    For example:
    <h:commandButton value="Create" action="createUser" rendered="#{MyBean.userName == null }" />
