Trouble with e1000g0 network driver in Virtualbox

Hi,
Has anybody resolved this issue? Cant get networking working on the newest solaris 10 platform because I think the driver or device is faulty or nonexistant. Tried full installation and it doesnt work. Dladm says this is the device. Ive got a ipv4 address up and running but no ping or dns resolving. Anyway, cheers.

There some debate about the duplex and speed settings cause its a gigabit ethernet virtual network card. There's a ndd command that supposed to help you set it to 100 and/or half-duplex. Had no success with it, looking now for a old cheap pc for testing purposes. But the device is in /dev and the ndd page said its included e1000g0 but its gives me an error. Maybe you'll have better luck with it. I'll look into more tomorrow if I have time at work.
Cheers,
Siggi from Iceland.

As of June 2010 I no longer maintain this FAQ. I’ve migrated to Lightroom 3, which I use for all my organizing and most of my editing (I still use the Photoshop Elements Editor for more involved editing).  Adobe has clearly decided not to invest sufficient resources for properly maintaining the Photoshop Elements Organizer– see my Amazon review of PSE 8. Lightroom is marketed to professionals and prosumers with tens of thousands of photos who demand adequate organizational capabilities, whereas Photoshop Elements is marketed to consumers, most of whom do not want or use the Organizer.
This page captures my answers to frequent questions about Photoshop Elements 6, 7, and 8 (Windows).  It’s mostly about the Organizer, since I know the Organizer much better than the Editor.
The versions to which each FAQ applies are indicated with the notation [PSE 6, 7, 8]. If I’m not sure whether something applies to a version, it will be indicated with a question mark, e.g. [PSE 7, 8?].

  • Using Time Machine with a network Drive

I recently bought a WD My Book Live network drive to use as my Time Machine backup. I was previously using a USB external HD for Time Machine with no problems. I have set up the new network drive but when I go in to Time Machine to select it as the drive to back up to, it is not showing up. The only drive I see is my old USB external HD. I have the latest firmware for the network drive and I am running Mac OSX10.5.8. Any suggestions?

If you bought the WD in a USB enclosure it probably came formatted with NTFS (Windows). Time Machine can't use NTFS drives or SMB (Windows) network shares as a backup destination because that format does not allow the proper permissions to be set. If this is the case with your drive, open Disk Utility and reformat your new drive (NOT you system drive!!) with HFS+ aka 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' and then the drive should show up as a target selection in Time Machine.

  • Trouble synching mapped network drive in Windows 8

    Hello
I have recently bought a Sony Vaio Pro13 with Windows 8. I have also just upgraded to Windows 8.1. I have another laptop running windows 7 to which I have mapped the network drive at my place of work. On the W7 computer, files are available offline and I can
synchronize them without any problem using the VPN.
I mapped the network drive to my new laptop running windows 8 but only about half of the offline files were made available offline and it was not possible to synchronize. I then started again, by deleting the mapped drive, deleting the offline files in the
CSC folder, moved the folder elsewhere and increased the space available for offline files. I then successfully mapped the drive and copies of all offline files were available on the laptop (after about 2 hours of synchronizing!).
However, I have not been able to synchronize the files since. The VPN works for other things (e.g. subscription websites which need a VPN connection) but the network drive is showing as either offline, or when I try to synchronize, the process begins and then
I get a 'failed' message (currently 'the username or password is incorrect'). This can't be the case, or I wouldn't be on the VPN or accessing emails via Outlook - and in any case, it worked once with exactly the same credentials. I double checked in the windows
credentials as well. The sync centre also says that the drive is 'offline (background sync)'.
My IT administrators do not have any suggestions apart from removing 8 and installing 7 because they do not currently support Windows 8...
Do you have any suggestions as to why the VPN works, the files have been made available offline, but the networked drive will now not sync?
    Thank you
    Liz

  • Macbook pro, trouble with external hard drives

I just got the drive on my mid-2010's macbook pro replaced at Apple. I am now experiencing a new problem.
My macbook is having trouble with ALL my external hard-drives. After a few minutes of being plugged in I click on them to open and the finder window is blank. Its not allowing me to veiw the content stored on the drive. If I keep trying my computer will freeze. I try to 'Force Eject' the drive and it doesnt eject so I have to unplug then start over.
This seems to happen roughly about 5 minutes after I plug them in. They work fine the first 5 minutes. Its becoming extremly annoying. All my drives are different makes, sizes, etc.. so I pretty sure its the macbook.
    What might the problem be?
    Thanks,

  • Troubles with graphic card driver at Equium A60

    Hello everybody,
At first sorry for my bad English.
I have some trouble with the driver of my graphic card. After a new installation I just wanted to install the driver of the ATI Radeon 7000 (I have an Equium A60), after this I had to ascertain that my pc was out of order. The trouble was because the driver, I'm sure, because after a new installation, without the VGA-drive, my notebook is working, somehow.... I mean, I'm sure it could work better if the graphic would have an own driver.
I have been searching on the web and I did see that this was not a new problem; many people have the same trouble with it. Somehow, the pc's own driver is not compatible.
Could anyone help me to find a solution for my problem?
    Thanks a lot,
    Eurytheus

Sorry my friend but your posting sounds really unbelievable. Original Toshiba driver is not compatible with the hardware. It can not be. It can not be the truth!
Your notebook model is almost 4 years old and I presume Toshiba have had enough time to react if display driver is somehow problematic. I recommend you to back up all your data and try to install your notebook using original recovery image. If there is no hardware problem notebook should work well again.
Sorry but I do not see any other solution there because the driver is definitely tested and it must work well.

  • Can't establish internet connection with NAT network in Oracle virtualbox

    Hi all,
I am new to Oracle virtualbox. I have created a new virtual machine with Oracle linux 5.5 (64bit). I have enabled the NAT networking adaptor so as to access internet connection from the VM. But I am not able to do so.
Here are the network settings in the VM
    1. Automatically obtain IP address settings with DHCP
    2. Firewalls are disabled.
The 'eth0' device shows active status. The #ifconfig command lists "inet address" as 10.0.2.15.
Please let me know if any additional configuration is required for establishing the internet connection in the VM.

The NAT engine of Virtualbox automatically provides a router between the network interface of your host system and the virtual network interface of your guest OS and offers the same DNS servers to the guest that are configured on the host.
For more information how it works, see http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch06.html#network_nat.
The problem you are experiencing is most likely with the network configuration of your host system.

  • Image Ultra Builder 3.x issue with T61 Network Driver load

    Hello,
I am having issues with a Network deployment of an image on a T61 (7659-12U) During the intial boot up phase with the Network Boot disk that was created from IUB, I receive and error 1231 - The Network Location cannot be reached..  I am currently using IUB for deployment of A31, T40/42 as well as the T60 model line. None of these loads are having the problem.
Any help on this would be very much appreciated.
    Thank-you in advance.
    Ed

    Hi,
IUB 4.01 is using WINPE 2.0<Vista based> and IUB 3.1 was using WINPE 1.0/1.1<XP Based>.
This has nothing to do with the actual image deployment. It's just that the WINPE looks more like
Vista. And this is why the method changed after you updated from 3.0/3.1 to 4.00/4.01.
To answer your questions from before:
    1) Does updating IUB to version 4.01 still allow me to deploy Windows XP ?
Yes, it's still supported and possible.
    2) Where on the boot CD should the new driver files be located. I took this to be PREBOOT\DRIVERS ?
As the new IUB is using WINPE 2.0, the best location for the NIC drivers is the file :
    tvtos\winpe.wim
    However, this is my advice.!
For my Image deployment I'm no longer using the CD for network deployment. I'm using USB key which gives me more options for the image deployment and the automatization of the deployment process.
However, if you want to use CD for network deployment, then you can do it in following way.
!!!NOTE: this is not the offical way, nor the supported way, but trust me, that it's working like charm !!!
    - go to your repository location %repositorylocation%\modules
    - find the file called "Z633003A.TVT" and open it using your fav zip application
    - after you open this file, go to following location: tvtos\
    - extract the "winpe.wim" and using WAIK unmount this file and add the NIC drivers into this .wim file
    - after all the drivers are in the winpe.wim file, just copy it back to the "Z633003A.TVT" file and create a new Deployment CD
How to add NIC driver using WAIK:
This is prety easy step, but for more info, check following link:
    http://www.svrops.com/svrops/articles/winvistape2.htm
As I described earlier, I'm using USB key for Network image deployment, so I have not done it this way, but I have done it a bit simplier.
    Here are my steps:
    - created a Distribution USB key <suing the same method, that you are using when you create a Network deployment CD, but instead of a CD I select my USB key>
    - once the USB key was created successfully I unmount the "tvtos\winpe.wim" file and add all the NIC dirvers into it
This is all that I have done.
Yes, of course there are couple other steps, that I do, like modifying the BCD file, adding other WINPE files, diagnostics and other deployment tools, however, this is not realy a part of IUB, I'm using it for my WDS server and other deployment tools, that I need to use. If you know, what I mean, then you surely understand, that it's a live safer to have everything on one USB key, then on multiple CD where I need to search throught all of then to find the correct CD.
Let me know, whether this method is more suitable for you.
As described above, this is not the realy official/supported way, but it's working for sure.

  • Trouble with two hard drives including SMART failure

About a week ago my mac mini g4 that I've had for less than 3 years, crashed while I was using itunes and playing music off an external usb drive.
As a result there has been trouble with both drives:
    *Internal hard drive failure:*
The internal drive would not boot and reported a fatal hardware error, with a SMART failure. Interestingly, when I start up the computer as a firewire target and run the same Disk Utility program, it does not report the fatal error. I was able to reformat this drive and it seems to now be booting and running fine.
    *External hard drive failure*
The external hard drive worked intermittently and then died completely a few days later, where it is now unable to mount it at all.
Does this mean I have two failed hard drives? The internal one seems to work fine and has for over a week, even though it still says there was a S.M.A.R.T. failure. When Disk Utility says there was a hardware failure, it prevents me from running the verify/repair functions. Is it possible that the external drive failure was somehow attributed to the internal drive?
I think it is also strange that when I run the Disk Utility using firewire target, the internal hard drive tests fine.
    The message I get is:
"This drive reported a fatal hardware error to disk utility. If the drive has not failed completely, back up as much data as you can and then replace it with a working drive."
and at the bottom it says:
    "S.M.A.R.T. status: failing"
Meanwhile it works just fine and my other external drive has failed altogether.
I normally wouldn't question this error message, but the fact that the other drive failed more completely at around the same time, and that the error message doesn't show up when I run the disk utility on the internal drive via firewire makes me wonder if there are other factors. It's also just frustrating that I may need to replace both.
Other things I have done is run the Apple Hardware Test, and everything passed. I also tried a PMU reset, and that didn't help.
Should I just replace the internal hard drive or should I look for other problems?
I appreciate any advice on this.

I'm not aware of any firmware update for the PPC minis - I've not had any with either of my own that I recall.
Of course future reliability is something you can never really check or fully assess, but the fact the system passes the hardware test tells us that the components which could have been responsible and which are not fairly easy to replace (the logic board, disk controller, PMU are all healthy. RAM could be a problem because the hardware test is not all that capable at revealing RAM issues, but it is also not likely to be the cause of this kind of problem. The PSU is obviously suspect to some degree, but is also replaceable.
While it's not common to suffer multiple drive failures, the fact one was active and the other could easily have been paging would account for the result if either failed in that situation. Bad luck and not easy to reproduce if you tried, but not inconceivable.
The fact that the internal rendered up your files while in FW target disk mode tends to indicate that the reason it wouldn't boot from that drive was not that the drive itself was trashed, but that the drive crashed during use - a circumstance which often creates catalog and file problems, and can certainly cause the system to fail in locating the MacOS install to boot from. In that situation, unless there is physical damage to the drive, it typically can be re-used with a reformat and reinstall, since of course that corrects the kind of catalog/file issues that this sort of crash typically causes. It would be expected to report 'verified' for SMART status though.
There are a few reasons why a damaged external might not appear in Disk Utility, or refuse to mount, some of which are broad;ly similar - a crash causing file or catalog issues. The fact it was FAT32 would complicate the matter to a small degree since if the allocation tables weren't visible to the Mac due to corruption, the system wouldn't have any way to mount the drive. That said, while it would likely be visible to a PC, and may even render up files in data recovery, it wouldn't be reusable itself without a reformat, and could well produce I/O errors in the process. It would usually be amenable to reformatting though it might also need repartitioning depending on the damage done. The overheating you mention may be an indicator of a fault, or it may be that the drive is being pushed to all 3 read attempts with each data block - that would cause it to work very hard! If you have rescue the data you think you can get off it, I'd suggest you try a reformat. If that fails, use a utility such as FDISK to delete all the partitions and recreate them, then try formatting again.
In terms of iTunes, any version will work, including 7.6. If music is stored on the external and that is USB connected, that would count for some speed impediment since iTunes is fairly cpu intensive, and the USB bus is also highly variable in performance, depending on CPU activity. But no, there is nothing in the latest version of iTunes that would cause a PPC to suffer such performance problems in itself, so you can use that quite safely. All are very cautious about this aspect of software design, since updates are often released to deal with stability or security issues, and must be usable for everyone.

  • How Do you get Time Machine to work with a network drive?

I have not been able to choose a Drive for Time Machine on a Network Drive. The network drive is active and shown on my desktop. How Do I use it?

Correct. Back up to a network volume (other than Time Capsule) is not supported, so if you want to do it you have to use the command line to set something as shown in the article.
Another option you could do would be to create a large disk image file on the NAS device and mount it on your client and back up to that. You'd use Disk Utility to create a large (say, 200 GB) sparse image on the network storage and then double click it to mount it on your machine and set TM to back up to that. I could show you how to do this in 30 seconds but instructing it over a forum post... not so easy

  • Fast User Switching with Mounted Network Drive?

I have a headless G4 Cube running 10.5.8 with a 2TB firewire drive plugged in for storage accessable to any of my macs here at home. I can access it fine with my 2 desktops over ethernet and wirelessly. Recently we decided to consolidate our 2 desktops into one using the muliple users feature. Seems to work fine, and both accounts can access the shared drive. They are logging in with the cube's admin credentials, and the shared drive is set to ignore permissions. I have the drive set to mount on login with a startup item in the system login items prefs. As long as I logout before switching users, everything is good.
The problem arises with Fast User Switching which we'd love to be able to use. I can't figure out how to connect to the drive in one account without the 2nd account then seeing it as a volume without proper permissions, then that account creates a new volume mount for it (which doesn't work with iTunes properly and seems to cause other wierd issues).
Example: So say 'user1' logs in, mounts the drive 'Jukebox'. everything seems OK so far. 'Jukebox' is on the desktop and iTunes finds the music. Now I fast user switch to 'user2' and there is a 'Jukebox' on the desktop with the red minus icon indicating I don't have permissions to access it. If I then browse the network and mount the drive, I end up with ANOTHER 'Jukebox' on the desktop. BUT iTunes doesn't see it properly. If I look in the /Volumes/ folder with the Terminal, I see a mountpoint for 'Jukebox' (with the owner of 'user1' group 'staff') and now a new mountpoint called 'Jukebox-1' (with the owner of 'user2' group 'staff').
It seems when you mount a AFP drive, it creates the Volume with the current user and staff group, but switching to another user then can't access that when it sees it in the /Volumes folder. You try to mount again and it creates a NEW mountpoint, names it with a '-1' at the end and you can use that (but iTunes cant).
So... how does one use a shared drive that you want on BOTH users desktops with Fast User Switching turned on? Is there a way to have the drive mounted BEFORE either user logs in, such that it will be seen as any other local drive (which doesn't have the issue)??
Or is there some other way I can attach to the network volume in each account on login so both have access to music and videos with full permissions?
I'm really stumped here after 2 hrs of googling, searching here and trying things.
    TIA

I've not had any luck with the suggestions in the link either.
Here's two other approaches I've tried and failed with:
    1. Creating a new share point on the cube itself so that one user can mount it as a different volume. Then the issue is that I still don't have a volume named "Jukebox" available to each user when switching. I DO have access now to the data from both accounts, but under 2 different mount points (volume names) and the xml file for iTunes is hard coded with the path for each mp3 including the "Jukebox" volume name... so no go.
    2. Tried figuring out a way I could script a mounting of the share with the terminal thinking I could then run that shell script at startup. Can't seem to get the sytax right. If I create a directory in /Volumes and mount and afp share to it, it takes on the ownership of root/wheel which I can't access in the finder and can't seem to change.
BUT I'll keep playing with both these ideas a bit... the first one might be overcome with a bit of logic and the 2nd if I can get the syntax right to mount the share with afp_mount and give it the correct ownership/permissions such that when a user logs in she/he sees the volume on the desktop and has full r/w access to it.
thanks again. if you offhand know the syntax for that, let me know

It was formatted with NTFS so I downloaded NTFS 3G and restarted my computer (iMac intel) after trying to format my portable hard drive to ntfs the software didnt work so I uninstalled it.
