Trouble with pdf document converted to word

I converted a pdf to a word document but it will  only allow picture tools. It does not let me make changes to the word document.

Update: I have run additional tests today, seems like it's a font that is creating the problem:
I use Merriweather, which suddenly convert to shrunken size in PDF, but if I convert the document font to something more generic, e.g. Courier New, the font size remains accurate in the PDF version.

  • Hyperlinks in a PDF document converted from Word 2003

I have a large document for our state's mathematics vocabulary. It has internal hyperlinks to help someone navigate the document. I created it in Word 2003 and converted it to PDF using the tool in the menu bar. When finished, the PDF document has some working hyperlinks near the beginning (about a third of them), but most of the links (in the last two-thirds) do not work. I have also tried doing the conversion from Adobe Acrobat Professional 8 (8.1.4), but I get the same results. Can someone help me solve this problem so the PDF document has all working links? Thanks.

Yes, you can create a script in Acrobat that loops through the links and adjusts the link's "rect" property to suit your needs. You'll want to consult the Acrobat JavaScript Reference, and look at the doc.getLinks method in particular: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.479.html
along with the Link object properties: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.802.html
Post again if you get stuck.
I don't know what control you have over this on the InDesign side of things. You may want to ask in one of the InDesign forums if you haven't already.

  • How do i convert a pdf document to ms word with adobe acrobat x standard?

I purchased adobe acrobat x standard so as to convert pdf documents into ms word and excel. When I try to convert docments it asks me to purchase another adobe product.

The ability to export a PDF file to Word or Excel is part of Acrobat X Std. as detailed in this comparison chart. It sounds like you might actually have Adobe Reader X open instead of Acrobat X Std because Reader has the command File > Save As > Word or Excel Online. This partcular command in Reader links to the ExportPDF online service.

I just noticed that you added a few more details and it seems like the problem is that part of the conversion is not working. Would it be possible to share the file with me so that I can forward it to the team that owns that service? My email address is [email protected]

  • I want to convert a pdf document to MS Word.  I subscribed to Adobe Export PDF. What's next?

How to convert pdf document to MS word?  How to input pdf document and output the same document in MS Word?

The best place to ask questions about how to use Adobe application is in the forum for that application.  Try posting in the following forum instead of here:

Dante font used in manuscript … when I try to save as a pdf document in Microsoft Word whole pages change their look, with wide gaps forming between certain paragraphs or sections. This does not happen with other fonts.

    OK, we've got it!
What is happening is that when you use Microsoft's save as PDF in Word, the font isn't embedded even though the font is tagged to allow embedding. Furthermore, Microsoft doesn't properly put the font name into the PDF file such that Acrobat or Reader can readily find the font installed on your system such that the text can be properly displayed and/or printed. Acrobat and Reader attempt to display and/or print the text using a “substitution font” and of course, as they say, YMMV (“your mileage may vary”)!
I personally submitted the report of this problem (both the embedding and the font name problem) to Microsoft. They acknowledge the bug, tried a fix and provided me a build with it, but it wasn't right. Maybe they will ultimately fix it, maybe they won't. We don't know yet. We do know that if it is fixed, it will be fixed only for Office 2013 (problem occurs with all Office applications since they use the same PDF generation code) and thus such a fix won't help you.
Adobe Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro  both provide an Adobe PDFMaker plug-in to Office applications (including full support for Office 2010) that adds an Acrobat Toolbar as well as a Save as Adobe PDF menu item. The resultant PDF file fully supports embedding of OpenType CFF, TrueType, and Type 1 fonts and in many other ways produces much superior PDF with a full range of PDF generation options not available with the Microsoft PDF. (Note that beginning with Office 2013, Microsoft does not support Type 1 fonts in Office documents at all, even for existing documents!) The Acrobat Office functions are widely used and respected in the end user community and whatever “issues” there are (all software has “issues” of some type - it is a matter of how many and how severe), you should be in much better shape for PDF production that with what you currently are using.
Good luck and let us know if this resolves your problems. (Note that you can download and install a free fully-functional 30 trial of Acrobat Pro to assure that it meets your needs! You can then buy a license and activate what you already have installed.)

  • I have payed for Adobe acrobat pro but now i can not convert a pdf document to a word format, why?

I have payed for Adobe acrobat pro for one year and it is valid to november 2015, but now i can not convert a pdf document to a word format, why ?

    Hi m_karhulinna,
If you have Acrobat Pro, you can save directly to Word format from within Acrobat by choosing File > Save as Other > Microsoft Word > Word Document.
(It sounds like you may be trying to use the ExportPDF online service, which is separate from Acrobat, and not necessary in your case.)

ps.  Wow, what a user UNFRIENDLY site this is!

In most cases you can just select the text and copy/paste. You can do that unless the file is a picture/scan.

Using Adobe Export PDF, I converted a PDF document into MS Word. However, all the images are missing--replaced by black rectangles. How can I fix this? Thanks for any assistance.

    Thanks for the reply, Bill.
    Yes, let me elaborate further:
I have a four page document in WORD with instructions. Examples of the instructions are in PDF files. I want to insert each PDF example next to or below each line item in WORD.The PDF will open when clicking on the icon without having a hyperlink attached to it.

  • Why does pdf not convert to word?

I have Adobe Reader XI and I am unable to export a PDF document to Microsoft Word.  Help.

    Hi freinshiptexas,
Reader itself doesn't allow you to convert to Word; you need an ExportPDF subscription to do that. If you have a subscription and are unable to access ExportPDF, please make sure that you have the most current version of Reader by choosing Help > Check for Updates. Install any available updates, as earlier versions could prevent you from accessing your ExportPDF subscription.

  • When I open a pdf document from my dropbox to view it, the document shows up blank, even though it is filled out. This also happened with pdf documents that have been e-mailed to me.

When I open a pdf document from my dropbox to view it, the document appears blank, even though I know the information is actually there. This also has happened with pdf documents that have been e-mailed to me, then opened to view and they are blank?? Why are they showing up blank?

When I open emails with PDFs I click on the attachment (doing this all on my iPad) it gives me the option to "open in iBooks", I accept then after that the document is sucked into my iPad but I can't do anything with the PDF after that.  Where is the actual file on my iPad? Why can't I email or send these PDFs to my cloud (Dropbox)?
It's like once they go into iBooks they're stuck forever.
