Trying to create Master - Detail form, getting  ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric

Anyone know why we might get this error trying to create a Master Detail form in HTMLDB 2.0?
ORA-20001: Unable to create master detail page. ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error
Unable to create Master Detail pages.
Return to application.

Please create the failing case in your workspace on apex.oracle.com and tell us the workspace name, app ID and steps to recreate.

  • Error creating Master/Detail Form

    Hi,
    I tried to create a master detail form. I went through all the steps fine, only when i click the button to create the form, i received the following errors:
    ORA-20001: Unable to create master detail page. ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error
    Unable to create Master Detail pages.
    Could someone please tell me what's wrong?
    Thanks,
    Patrick.

    We are getting this message in several areas in the development environmnet. It's happening in the developer login screen, when creating new tabs, and when tryig to create master detail reports. Here is our error from the Apache Log:
    [Mon Mar  2 11:41:31 2009] [error] [client 10.64.8.231] [ecid: 1236012090:148.94.143.136:24226:0:1621,0] mod_plsql: /pls/apex_qmnt/wwv_flow.accept HTTP-404 ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error\nORA-06512: at line 31\n
    I think this is different from the issue above as that is due to too many items in a shuttle list. Ours seems to be related to our new APEX insstallation. Any help is appreciated here.

  • ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error in 10g

    We were using a Function in Oracle 9i which uses max()
    function against CHAR field.
    It was working fine until now. We are moved database
    from 9i to 10g.
    Now i am getting "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error:
    character string buffer too small"
    I have created simple function and tested. Actual Char field
    size is 10. In that function we also declared the variable size of 20 to store the value.
    But when we run the function in Oracle 10g we give the variable size char(4000
    ) then it works.
    we have many functions like this we are confusing whether these functions are working or not in 10g
    why this happening please give a solution
    Regards
    Shiju

    Try this. It is the Oracle recommended workaround and it worked for us.
    ALTER SYSTEM SET blank_trimming=TRUE SCOPE=SPFILE
    STOP AND START THE instance.
    Good Luck!

    i tried to go through the posts from others but i still dunno what is this error !!!& how to solve it..
    my master data table have 2 primary keys.. the details data table have 3 primary key all of them using trigger to fire a sequence to get the next_val!!
    am desperate & need help urgently for this ASAP.

    hello
    here is the solution,i hope this might help u.
    go to the code of your button and change write the following
    go_block('name of your master block');
    execute_query(no_validate);
    and in the object navigator make the first item in the master
    block that it should be displayed in the canvas and it must be a
    navigable item too.not a display item.
    thank you

  • ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: in Inserting record in form 2.0

    Hi All,
    Can somebody help me out here urgently. I just added a New Column to a Table & when I try to use that Column in a Form & Insert using Automatic Row Processing(DML). I am getting this error, If I remove the newly created column, then it is fine.
    Please help. I saw some posting on forum, but there was no solution.
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
         Error      Unable to process row of table <tablename>
    OK
    Thanks
    Sandeep

    Sandeep - Looks like you're hitting a 4096-character limit for the values portion of the insert statement because you have so many columns. This is a bug. A workaround would be to reduce the number of columns or create your own DML process for the insert operation.
    Also just now I installed htmldb 2.0 in my laptop & trying to create the same table, but it is not creating ...no errors ..just a clue...I don't understand what you said.

    -6502 ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    What can I do about it???
    Thanks in advance.
    Menno Hoogsteen

    Working on the same project as Menno, I had the time to look into the problem.
    The problem is caused by the creation of the capi-function agregate_char_value in the packages hsu_capf. While creating this function the following code is executed:
    add(' -- allowable values:');
    add(' -- '||l_col_name_list);
    This last statement causes the problem because this table is very big. L_col_name_list contains 2391 characters wich is 393 characters to long. So i changed this code into:
    add(' -- allowable values:');
    add(' -- '||substr(l_col_name_list,1,1990));
    add(' -- '||substr(l_col_name_list,1990));
    and everything works fine. Perhaps something for a patch?
    Kind regards,
    Ruben Spekle

  • ORA-06502:PL/SQL:numeric or value error. Dynamic SQL the only answer??

    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small.
    I have an HTMLDB report that errors with the above message. The query is over 7000 characters long so I'm guessing this is the cause. If I retrieve the query from a query table, replace the variables in the LONG query using PL/SQL and execute using dynamic SQL, are the HTMLDB reporting features the same as if I was using a simple SQL query? Is there a better way? I will need to 'drill-down' from this report so how do I create the links? The only HTMLDB PL/SQL package I can find mentioned in the User's Guide is HTMLDB_PLSQL_JOB.
    Cheers, Paul

    Hello All,
    I have the same problem.
    For me it started when i got about 500 rows in the table
    on which the LOV is based.
    With a lot of trying with substr I managed to find the size of the string which it still accepted, which was 51 characters.
    So I thought it was some glitch in the APEX insides, and since I had no time to resolve it further, I went on working.
    But I have to resolve it now, because the following mysterious behaviour is occurring:
    Every few records added to the base table, the problem occurs again, and I can resolve it by cutting down the string
    with one character.
    I have now reached 39 characters !?
    I am afraid that I will end up with 1 character or even null.
    If I switch to Popup list based on LOV there's no problem, and the complete strings are shown.
    The maximum length of the string in my basetable is 252, but the data in it now reaches 55 at most.
    Any idea welcome!
    I did already recreate the master-detail form from scratch, but there the same behaviour.
    greetings,
    Richard Kloostra

  • ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error ORA-06512: at "SYS.OWA_UTIL"

    Was working on tutorial from the:
    Oracle Database Express Edition 2 Day Plus Application Express Developer Guide
    Working on the section 4: How to Control Form Layout.
    Ran into a problem trying to compile the Create HT-EMP Table script.
    keep getting this error for this particular segment creating the bu_ht_emp trigger:

    I've check the syntax for the entire script and it all checks out. Does anyone have a clue why this is failing?

    If I'm looking at the same DDL, not seeing where it would throw an owa_util error, are you running it in the apex script editor?
    Just plain sqlplus doesn't like the empty line stuck in with the list of check constraints on the emp_dept column, after fixing that up (and dropping the sequence that got created on the first pass) the DDL and insert runs fine-

  • TextArea : ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error (WWV-16016)

    Was trying to use a TextArea in a form to submit some text to a procedure. Found that the text limit seems to be around 1700 bytes. If there is more text in the form I get the following error message:
    Error: An unexpected error occurred: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error (WWV-16016)
    The procedure that i recieveing the form is listed below:
    procedure test
    p_str in varchar2
    as
    begin

    end;
    Was expecting to be able to submit up to 32k of text using the TextArea this way.
    Has anyone else run into this problem?
    Is this a bug? Workaround???????
    We really need to be able to submit at least 4k!

    As a workaround,
    1> you can create a table with varchar2(4000)
    2> build a form on it and insert the data in the table
    3> create a procedure to select the data from the table and publish it using htp.p(...)
    4> call this procedure using go/call from the OnSuccess section
    NOTE: you need to grant execute priv. on this procedure to <portal_schema>_PUBLIC db user

  • Error at Script Editor - ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error

    Hello everyone,
    This is my last call for help. I have made some research before i decided to create this thread, trying to find similar problems on the web and on this forum but it seems that this kind of error is associated with another type of situations. In addition, i am pretty new to Oracle DBMS and i do not know how to figure out some problems that happens in this DBMS. This one is very ridiculous because it happens when i load or create a script in Oracle Script Editor. This might be a bug for Oracle Developers figure out and correct for the next releases or updates (or not..).

    However i don't understand why shows the HTML code. Seems to be the code related with the rest of the Oracle DB webpage where the script in filled in (check this two images to understand what i am trying to say: http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/3104/errororacle10g.jpg and http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/5185/scripteditornormal10g.jpg. This is what Script Editor shows on Internet Explorer.
    If i login and make the same in another browser the behavior is different. In Firefox the script editor don't show anything and with Chrome i get all the script instructions in a single line (it exceeds the Script Editor) and the Script Editor background turns red: http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/1382/oracleerrorchrome.jpg I tested some scenarios and i got other conclusions: When i try to create a script in the Script Editor, whatever i write (instructions or whatever) when i save and load the file shows the same error. I uploaded the script many times with different File Character Set and the error shows in all situations.

    The script that i am trying to run is this: (I think the script is not relevant because many class mates can upload and run it successfully on their Oracle Express 10g installed on Windows 7 or XP)

  • ORA- 06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too sma

    Hi Everybody,
    Please, I Need of Your Help.
    We have a table with the following characteristics:
    PS_NAMES ( EMPLID VARCHAR2(33), NAME VARCHAR2(150), ... )
    In this table a Trigger exists...
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER TG_NAMES
    BEFORE UPDATE ON PS_NAMES
    REFERENCING NEW AS NEW OLD AS OLD
    FOR EACH ROW
    Declare
    vemplid ps_names.emplid%type;
    vname ps_names.name%type;
    Begin
    vname := substr(:new.name,1,45);
    end;
    When the register is updated and the field PS_NAMES.NAMES has a bigger or equal content that 45 characters and with a character special, happen the error: "ORA- 06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small".
    This happens for any bigger or equal name the 45 characters and that it contains a character special.
    Thanks,
    Márcio Ap. Silveira

    Hi,
    I have check that part. The out parameter is getting populated correctly. I tried even removing the out parameter. Still it failed.And still you haven't provided all the details.
    What about col1, col2, and the actual definition/declaration for ot_MY_OBJECT_TYPE?
    How can we see any of the datatypes and where the issue could be if you don't bother to supply us with the information. Our crystal balls are broken and in the shop for fixing at the minute.

  • Report error:ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number

    The oracle application express environment is created by installing the HTTP Server on the windows server and the application express 3.2.1 components on the 11.1.0.7 oracle database on UNIX. The installation is successfully and have not seen any issues during the installation. After completing all the steps, when tried to login and click the application builder or workspace components, I see the error message
    report error:ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number.
    This error message is seen on most of the pages when trying to accessed and not able to understand the reasons behind it. Its a brand new environment setup and not even presented to developers to test it.
    Below error message is always seen when trying to access most of the components like application builder, schema comparison and some other tabs. Please advice

    I think its better you use APEX 4.x version ratherthan using old version.
    You will get more features and some bug fixes and also it's easy for you to get some help when you need.

    In the above package there is a procedure called procedure excel_content which actuall prints the data in the spread sheet this is where the error is coming from there is a variable called vsql have declared it as clob to hold large string but still i am getting the same error when trying to pass a big string.
    Please check the error and let me know.

    Praveen you can pass your DB table query to check the error. I am trying to pass as mentioned above.
    Please let me know if my question is not clear.

  • Error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error:NULL index table key value

    Hi,
    I am trying toceate an interface which collects data from database make some transformation and populated seeded tables in the same database.
    My Approach is :
    a) Create a record type variable ( concists of multiple segments)
    b) Create a pl/sql table type of the records type in a)
    c) Created a cursor of same structure as pl/sql table type ( collects data)
    d) BULK CoLLECT data from cursor into pl/sql table
    e) Print the data
    But during Bulk Collect i get the below error :
    Unexpected error in xxc_hr2hr_populate_elements.main at FLOW TRACE-1.120. Error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: NULL index table key value

  • ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error : Not able to run a script

    Hi All,
    I want to run a script like this:
    DECLARE
    I_so_status_dtl     RIB_SOStatusDtl_REC;
    BEGIN
    I_so_status_dtl := RIB_SOStatusDtl_REC('0'     --Cust Order No
                   ,'1000000014'     --Dest ID
                   ,'100010222'     --Item ID
                   ,1          --Order Line Number
                   ,1          --Unit Quantity
                   ,'R'          --Status
                   ,'RMS12DEV'     --User ID
                   ,'06-May-2001'     --Updated Date
    End;
    I am trying to run this script. Actually this script is supposed to generate an XML message, which I require. Here's the definition for the TYPE RIB_SOStatusDtl_REC:
    create or replace TYPE RIB_SOStatusDtl_REC UNDER RIB_OBJECT (
         cust_order_nbr     VARCHAR2(10),
         dest_id     VARCHAR2(10),
         item_id     VARCHAR2(25),
         order_line_nbr     NUMBER(3),
         unit_qty     NUMBER(12,4),
         status     VARCHAR2(2),
         user_id     VARCHAR2(10),
    updated_date DATE,
         overriding member procedure appendNodeValues( i_prefix in varchar2)
    ,constructor function RIB_SOStatusDtl_REC (rib_oid number, cust_order_nbr VARCHAR2, dest_id VARCHAR2, item_id VARCHAR2, order_line_nbr NUMBER, unit_qty NUMBER, status VARCHAR2) return self as result
    ,constructor function RIB_SOStatusDtl_REC (rib_oid number, cust_order_nbr VARCHAR2, dest_id VARCHAR2, item_id VARCHAR2, order_line_nbr NUMBER, unit_qty NUMBER, status VARCHAR2, user_id VARCHAR2) return self as result
    This TYPE has a body which actually generates an XML message.
    But whenever I am trying to run this, I am getting the following message:
    Error report:
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error
    ORA-06512: at line 6
    06502. 00000 - "PL/SQL: numeric or value error%s"
    *Cause:
    *Action:
    Therefore I am not able to run the following script. Here I am passing hard coded value within the TYPE, as I have run similar kind of scripts, which accepts this and creates an xml message. Can anyone help me what's the wrong with this script?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Debabrata

    Hi,
    Create one constructor same as with 8 parameters as you have constructor for only 7 and 8 9 parameters.
