Trying to upload my podcast RSS to iTunes, but getting the "We had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed" error

Hello everyone. I know this is an often asked question, but I still can't get this to work.
Can you tell me why I'm getting the "We had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed" error when I submit
http://davidccook.com/podcasts/praying-for-your-elephant.xml
Thanks!

The Store checks only the latest episode of your feed when you submit your podcast. The media file URL for your latest episode, Day 21, is
http://adamstadtmiller.com/wp-content/uploads/podcast/P4YE21DAY121.mp3
and there is no file at this address. This is because you've mistyped it: the actual URL is
http://adamstadtmiller.com/wp-content/uploads/podcast/P4YE21DAY21.mp3

The missing opening tags problem was caused by your pasting the contents into the forum and is not present in the actual feed. However you have two serious and two minor faults.
    Your media file URL is
    http://phmedia.mediaimages.net:1935/vod/_definst_/mp4:0165/12061_13536.mp4/playl ist.m3u8
This isn't a media file, it's a m3u playlist at 4kB. You need to provide a direct link to your media file and the URL must end with an extension, e.g. mp4
Your 'itunes:image' is a png which appears to be a screenshot: it should be 1400 x 1400 px or the feed won't be accepted, and it must be less the 500kB. You should choose a logo which will work when reduced to the size on the Store page.
You are missing what should be the first line of your feed:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    Your 'pubdate' tag reads
    <pubDate>Thu Feb 20 02:39:12 EST 2014</pubDate>
There should be a comma after the 'Thu' and the '2014' should be after 'Feb', not at the end.
    Your 'itunes:duration' tag reads
    <itunes:duration>0:0:29</itunes:duration>
    It should read
    <itunes:duration>0:00:29</itunes:duration>
These last three are not fatal but should be addressed.
Finally, your title is 'iTunes1' which is valid but not a good title. You should choose something which gives an idea of the content.

  • Unable to submit podcast - "We had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed"

    Hi there,
I had tried submitting my podcast feed onto iTunes: http://thecity.sg/media-resour…..e/?podcast
However, I was unable to and the following prompt was given "We had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed".
Anyone able to explain or help out?

The problem lies with the URLs for your media files. Looking at the most recent episode, the URL is
    http://thecity.sg/media-resource/?show&file_name=12Jan14_DanielChua_The%20Master %20Key.mp3
    which redirects to
    http://thecity.sg//wp-content/uploads/sermons/12Jan14_DanielChua_The%20Master%20 Key.mp3
when entered in a browser, and the file plays there as it should. When subscribing manually in iTunes it does work OK. However, because of the problems which are caused in XML by having an ampersand ('&') the feed has rendered the URL as
    http://thecity.sg/media-resource/?show&file_name=12Jan14_DanielChua_The%20Master %20Key.mp3
replacing the ampersand with the code &amp; as would be correct if it were in a description or other text tag. If you enter this changed URL in a browser you get a web page, and presumably this is what the Store is seeing.
This use of server-side scripting to handle your file access is asking for trouble and you would be better off using the actual URL of the file,
    http://thecity.sg//wp-content/uploads/sermons/12Jan14_DanielChua_The%20Master%20 Key.mp3
While we're looking at this, your filename has spaces in it. Spaces are not allowed in a URL and the feed has correctly substituted the code %20 for each space, so it does work; but it's preferable not to do this. The usual practice is to substitute an underscore for each space as you have already done for part of the file name.

  • When i try to submit my first podcast episode, i get an error message "we had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed

Hello! i am trying to submit my podcast feed into itunes but get "we had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed". I'm using the soundcloud podcasting beta, and i've tried almost every thing. Also when i try to test my feed by subscribing to it first, everything works except the episode wont play. any help?
    RSS Feed:http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:141115987/sounds.rss

This is because you have the URL for the media files incorrect. The top episode's file is given as
    http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:141115987/sounds.rss/http://f eeds.soundcloud.com/stream/196914893-behindthereels-ep2-everything-bethesdawav.m p3
If you look at it you will see that it is plainly wrong - you have http in twice. The correct URL is
    http://feeds.soundcloud.com/stream/196914893-behindthereels-ep2-everything-bethe sdawav.mp3
and the same process applies with the other episode.

Your episodes have no playable media, and your feed is not a podcast feed. Your links are to pages with embedded players: this will not work in iTunes.
Could I ask you to read my 'get you started' page on podcasting:
    http://rfwilmut.net/pc
and if you do have any questions subsequently please do post back. There's no need to post the contents of the feed: just posting its URL is sufficient, and more helpful.

  • Itunes - we had difficulty download episodes from your feed

I know I'm not the only person who has encountered this but I tried to create a podcast from our new website
    http://www.churchatfour.com/talks.html
    I used the RSS feed
    http://www.churchatfour.com/2/feed
and submitted it to feedburner but got the message in the title.
    http://www.churchatfour.com/2/feed
I then tried to use podbean
    http://churcatfour.podbean.com/
With the same problems. Can anyone help? Thanks!

    http://www.churchatfour.com/2/feed
This is not a podcast feed. It has no 'enclosure' tags containing the URLs of playable media files, nor does it have the 'iTunes declaration' in the second line:
    <rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">
There is a link to an mp3 file in the 'content:encoded' tag for the episode I looked at but this tag is not read by iTunes, and anyway it appears to be an embedded player, which won/t work. You have to provide a direct link to the MP3 file.
Your Podbean feed is in fact at http://churcatfour.podbean.com/feed/ - this does have the iTunes declaration, but no 'enclosure' tags so again it isn't a podcast feed.
It may help you to look at my 'get you started' page on podcasting which among other things includes a sample basic feed - I'm not suggesting you should write your own but it may help you to see how it should work:
    http://rfwilmut.net/pc
It should be possible to construct a satisfactory podcast feed in Podbean but I can't advise on the specifics.

  • Podcast problem -- "difficulty downloading episodes from your feed"

I've entered the URL " http://feeds.feedburner.com/MirrorOfIntimacy " and keep getting an error message "We had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed."
I read through other discussions, and changed the URL in Tumblr from https to http, but I'm still getting the error message. Any help?

The meta tags are irrelevant: only an image embedded in the audio file is read by iTunes. The feed contains all the information, and must be properly constructed. Yours is made in Tumblr, and I would expect it could create a podcast feed but it isn't doing so at the moment. I can onlly refer you to their Help files to find out how to construct an iTunes-compliant feed.
You may find my 'get you started' page helpful - it contains a sample basic feed, and though I'm certainly not suggesting you should hand-write the feed (a process littered with pitfalls) it will show you what a feed should look like.

  • ITunes Says Having Difficulty Downloading Episodes From Your Feed

I'm trying to submit my podcast feed to iTunes, I am able to subscribe to my feed by going to File > Subscribe to Podcast > and pasting http://www.servextra.com/category/scrshow/feed/ in the field. iTunes then recognizes all of the episodes in my feed and I'm able to play them all with no problem.
When I try to submit this same exact feed to the iTunes Podcast Directory, I get the error message iTunes Says Having Difficulty Downloading Episodes From Your Feed. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong to cause this?

I don't know why you are having this problem. The URL of your top episode's media file is
    http://traffic.libsyn.com/toddliles/12_012_-_Easy_Budgeting_in_30_Minutes_-_10.1 7.2013.mp3
    This redirects to
    http://ec.libsyn.com/p/3/0/f/30f658d1205053c7/12_012_-_Easy_Budgeting_in_30_Minu tes_-_10.17.2013.mp3?d13a76d516d9dec20c3d276ce028ed5089ab1ce3dae902ea1d01c08530d 6cb5ec030&c_id=6289362
The Store can by flaky about redirects, and this one has the '?' which indicates a script of some sort is in use. However, Libsyn normally know what they are doing so I wouldn't have expected them to provide a URL which didn't work. Your best bet would be to approach their Support; or Robert Walch, who works for them, posts here sometimes and may see your question.
It is just possible that the Store is having one of its hissy fits and it may be an error at their end, but certainly Libsyn should be able to advise.

  • Podcast Submission: error message "We had difficulties downloading episodes from your feed."

When I try to submit a podcast into iTunes, the error message that comes up is "We had difficulties downloading episodes from your feed."  I've validated the feed. It's not a duplicate submission. Not sure what to fix, as it doesn't list a specific error. Any help??

This is another case of WordPress strikes again. You have one episode, but its media file appears only in the description in the feed, and in a link on the web page. You have to have an 'enclosure' tag containing the media file URL or iTunes will see the episode as having no playable media and thus not show it.
WordPress is producing what is in effect a blog feed: it is possible to get WordPress to produce a podcast feed, and there is evidently something you need to do to enable that, but I'm afraid I can't advise on that.
Your media file is hosted on Dropbox and this is liable to cause you problems. As it's currently set up the link leads to a web page with a download link - this will not work. You have to provide a direct link to the file which will play in a browser, and you should avoid it being https instead of http. You would be better off hosting your media files on an ordinary web server.

  • "Difficulty Downloading Episodes from your feed" for iTunes directory, of course.

I've heard a number of the other posts on here with the same problem, but haven't found any solutions that have worked for me.
The podcast does work for me from the "subscribe to an iTunes" link, but I'm getting the error message when I try to submit it to the iTunes directory?
    My feed url is: http://feeds.feedburner.com/thejerkstorepodcast
    Help? Thanks in advance.

Your feed works OK whe subscribing manually in iTunes. However there are two errors which might possibly affect the Store (which can be a bit picky).
You are missing the opening declaration which should be in the very top line of the feed:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
However FeedValidator has not flagged this as an error, so I don't know whether it matters or not.
More problematic is your 'enclosure' tag:
    <enclosure url="http://robertorios.eu/podcast/EDMystic001-RR.m4a" length="72271043" type="audio/mpeg"/>
Your 'type' attribute is incorrect and may be leading to the Store attempting to decode it as an MP3. It should read "audio/x-m4a".

  • Error when submitting podcast: unable to download episodes from your feed

    Hi everyone!
When I want to submit my podcast in iTunes, it tells me it is unable to download episodes from my feed.
I uploaded my mp3 file and xml file to an ftp-server, could there be a problem?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Jannes

Your feed won't access in FireFox (my default rss reader) or Safari when set as an rss reader, and it was unable to download the file. I was able to access and read it in Terminal and using FeedValidator but it comes to an abrupt end 28 lines in - see the report:
    http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.setanta.com%2Fie%2F%3Ffe ed%3Dpodcast
(ignore the error on line 14, this is irrelevant.)
Either your feed file is corrupt or the server is acting up in some way - you would have to take that up with the people running it.

  • I am trying to upload a podcast rss and I am getting timeouts

I am attepting to upload an rss podcast but I am getting timeouts. Does anyone know how to correct this?

It depends on whether your server is failing to respond, or whether the problem lies with the iTunes Store's submission process. Try subscribing manually to your feed from the 'Advanced' menu and see how it behaves: if it fails to load there, or is very slow to do so, then you should look at your server. If it's OK, then the problem may lie with the Store and all you can really do is wait for a bit then try again.

  • ITunes Submit Podcast - difficulty downloading episodes from feed

Was instructed to start a need thread after reading several of the others. This is the error I am receiving when submitting my podcast feed, "We had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed." I tried a couple of the solutions offered but I am still receiving the error. My podcast feed is generated by feedburner and you can use the itpc version of the URL and it subscribes instantly and has no problem downloading the latest episodes. But as far as making it available in the iTunes store I continue to receive the above error when I submit the feed.
Here is the feed address: http://feeds.feedburner.com/ak_house_majority?format=xml
Any help would be appreciated. And you know what, if itunes would just give ANY clue as to WHY it is having difficulties with one's feed when submitted, that also would be appreciated, instead of just leaving everyone in the dark to go figure out whatever the heck with no idea of what is causing the problem. But I digress. I figure I am close, but something simple I am missing must be causing the problem.

Your feed has a lot of episodes with .mp3 files, but it also has a large number of episodes without. In fact reading from the top of the feed it looks like around fifty, though I've not counted them. Furthermore your episode aren't in any logical order.
On subscribing the episodes with mp3 files show in descending date order. However the indications are that on submission the Store checks only the top episode, and if it can't find a playable media file it rejects the feed.
In any case it's not a good idea to mix episodes with and without playable media in this way, though the main problem where the creation process is limiting the number of episodes doesn't seem to apply here. iTunes will not display any episode which don't have playable media.
At the least you need to rearrange the feed so that you latest episode appears at the top.

Ipad won't start; trying to restore thru itunes, but get the message - can't restore because ipad is not set up. It was set up and has been in use for about a year.  What do I do now?

I Have seen people report this issue when they try to sync their devices but in never seen it when trying to restore an unresponsive iPad. I would sguggest trying recovery mode now.
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
This procedure will totally erase the iPad so I hope that you have a backup that you can restore from....assuming that it works, that is.
