Trying to use WriteFile+ to append a header to a file

I'me having quite a time with what I thought would be a simple operation. I'm logging data on 3 channels and saving to a file every time through a loop. When I am done, I want to add some header information to the top of the file (number of rows, columns, sample rate)...
To do this, I start by writing a dummy array in a new file, then begin logging... I'm using the Write File+ [Sgl].vi to do my writing. At the end, I exit the loop and write the array again at the top with the actual values.
The problem is that it somehow rotates the array when it saves it. I want the header values in rows in the firswt column, then the data are in 4 columns for as many rows as necessary below that... instead, the WriteFile.v
i puts my header in the first row... since I have more header cells than data columns, it drops some... I've watched what actually gets passed to Write File, and it looks exactly right, but when I go to read it back, it has saved the data in one row.
Any suggestions?

well I can only guess since you did not post your vi. If you are taking an array and putting it into the write file and it is putting it all on one line the that means it has no delimiter, you need to run it through a vi called array to spreadsheet string.vi try this and see if it solves your problem. If it does not then post some code in version 7.0 and I will look at it and figure out what is going on.

"End of File" error 4 when trying to use Advanced TDMS Palette to create a circular file buffer

I'm using the Advanced TDMS palette to create an on-disk circular buffer. I was able to successfully implement the buffer for a single channel of data.
However, when I try to write multiple channels of data, I continuously get "End of File Encountered" error 4. I am pre-allocating 60,000 data points for each channel using the "TDMS Set Channel Information" function.
I am able to (1) Set Next Write Position and (2) perform an Asynchronous Write to the first channel. But when I try to Set Next Write Position to the second channel, I immediately get an error 4.
The examples have not been helpful as none of them write to different channels in sequence.
Attached is an example project of what I'm trying to do, coded in 2013SP1.

I looked into your project and found that the error comes from Set Next Write Position because the "offset" passed in is out of range. In fact, for continueous logging, you don't need to put the Set Next Write Position in front of the write. Remove this function and you will find your VI can run successfully without throwing out any errors.

Trying to use a Microsoft C/C++ Header in LabWindows/CVI, will not work?

Is there a way to get Microsoft based Header(s) files to compile in LabWIndows/CVI. It appears that LabWindows/CVI does not like the words "BOOLEAN" or "HANDLE" in the header file for an example?
Is there a switch that I need to set in LabWindows ENVR to accept this MS C/C++ Header files?

Append Text Header for Binary file

Hello Experts
I am using LabView 7.0 with PCI 6040 DAQ. I have created two separate files, one file is Binary that collects binary raw data from 16 channels of the DAQ. The second file contains variable length Header, i.e the information about all 16 channels and physical conditions of the recording. I am trying to merge these two files to form a single file that contains a text header at the top and followed by the binary data. I am unable to figure out that how can I append binary data to a text file.
I need help from users please.

I am working on Implementation of EDF file format (European data Format) in Lab View. This file format is widely becoming a standard to acquire and store the physical data of patients. In short, the specification of the file can b read at ( http://www.hsr.nl/edf/specs/edf.html ). Most of the companies that develop equipments for EEG (electroencephalogram) are implementing this format to read and write data. In my experiments I am also using the same file format but just to acquire and store. For reading and analysing the data Matlab is widely used instead of Labview. Dev, I have just start introducing myself to the idea of Data loggers.
Dear Chris I have labview 7.0, is it possible to reload the file for 7.0? If not can you load it as a picture format?

Premier Elements 13 on MAC. trying to use motion tracking. immediately get error "the media file seems to have an invalid entry in the catalog. Please rename it for use."

Anyone resolved this issue? What is the "catalog". All I did was import a file (1080/60) and get started. Everything else seems to work fine.

Assuming you're not shooting in 3D mode, I'm not sure why this is happening.
As long as you're not shooting in 3D mode, this is a standard AVCHD camcorder, which I've done lots of motion tracking with.
Since you manually copied the file from SD card rather than getting the media using Premiere Elements' tools, it is quite possible you grabbed the wrong file. Try this: Plug your camcorder (with SD card in the cam) into your computer via USB and set the camcorder to VTR/play. Then go to Premiere Elements' Add Media/From Flip or Camera and use that tool to get the video from the camera to your computer.
This should resolve your invalid catalog entry issue.

Which particular .msi file is the message mentioning? (Several different .msi files might be referenced in this context: itunes.msi, bonjour.msi, AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi, etc.)

When trying to use sharing, I get Connection Failed

When trying to use my OSX 10.75 laptop to access files on my OSX 10.6.8 laptop it says "Connection Failed". In the console, it says:
Finder: SharePointBrowser::handleEnumerateCallBack returned -6600
File sharing is turned on in the target computer. I have a user account setup for file sharing. That user account has read/write access setup.
I have tried to turn off sharing and turn it back on.
I have tried to remove the shared folders, make new folders and then share those new folders.
I have tried both guest access as well as access with a specific user account.
Nothing works. I get the error message above no matter what I do.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

How to set the header of the file to excel type when writing it?

I am using POI API to read an excel file that I have previously written using Java, but not using POI (I've written the file using Microsoft office xml and then writing it using FileOutputStream with an xls extension).
The problem is that when I read back the file I am getting this error:
The system was unable to upload the file: Invalid header signature; read 7311066695147732796, expected -2226271756974174256.
which means that the header of the file is not excel typed.
If I manually open the file and save it as excel POI is able to read it but I don't want to do this as this entire process of writing/reading the file should be automated. I don't want to use POI for writing the file because POI cannot provide me everything that I need when Microsoft office xml can.
So, my question is simple: Is there a way, using java, to set the header of a file to excel so that POI will recognize it as such?

Open the screen saver control panel. Right above the preview window there's a popup menu. You'll probably want to set it to "Fit to screen" so the pictures will be resized to show on the display.

Appending XML data to a file using file adaptor

Hi,
I am trying to append data to a file using file adaptor in XML format. (Objective is to store data as XML message in the file). I understand it is possible to append data to an existing file by making appropriate changes in WSDL manually. However, my issue is every time the XML data is appended to a file even the XML header message is also getting appended. As a result the file data does not adhere to defined schema structure anymore.
Is there a way to save XML data in a file in append mode ?

I am having the same issue as well, which makes the output XML an invalid one. I have an XSD that has a hierarchy of elements. whenever I am wiriting the child elements the header message & the name space is also getting written. For example

I am using a onefile adapter partnerlink to write the parent & an another one for writing the child element, since the child elements will repeat more than once. One other way to fix this issue is write the data using java embedded activity, but that would need a lot of boiler plate code, for writing/reading/appending the same file & for handling all those IOexceptions & buffer IN/outs. first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the revo uninstaller http://http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
next download itunes. it worked for me hope this is helpful!!
oonce you get into the revo uninstallergo thru to delete itunes hit uninstall on the itunes icon then you will go thru to it will tell u the same nmessage about the feature and network hit cancell then go thru and hit scan (make sure bthe advance scan button is pushed) this will take awhile but go thru the list and hit everything associated with itunes. hit delete then install itunes again. it worked for me hope it works for you!

Can I automate the creation of a cluster in LabView using the data structure created in an auto generated .CSV, C header, or XML file? I'm trying to take the data structure defined in one or more of those files listed and have LabView automatically create a cluster with identical structure and data types. (Ideally, I would like to do this with a C header file only.) Basically, I'm trying to avoid having to create the cluster by hand, as the number of cluster elements could be very large. I've looked into EasyXML and contacted the rep for the add-on. Unfortunately, this capability has not been created yet. Has anyone done something like this before? Thanks in advance for the help.

You can try LabVIEW scripting, though be aware that this is not supported by NI.
Wow! Thanks for the quick response! We would use this cluster as a fixed data structure. No need to change the structure during runtime. The cluster would be a cluster of clusters with multiple levels. There would be not pattern as to how deep these levels would go, or how many elements would be in each. Here is the application. I would like to be able to autocode a Simulink model file into a DLL. The model DLL would accept a Simulink bus object of a certain data structure (bus of buses), pick out which elements of the bus is needed for the model calculation, and then pass the bus object. I then will take the DLL file and use the DLL VI block to pass a cluster into the DLL block (with identical structure as the bus in Simulink). To save time, I would like to auto generate the C header file using Simulink to define the bus structure and then have LabView read that header file and create the cluster automatically. Right now I can do everything but the auto creation of the cluster. I can manually build the cluster to match the Simulink model bus structure and it runs fine. But this is only for an example model with a small structure. Need to make the cluster creation automated so it can handle large structures with minimal brute force. Thanks!

I tried to install a new hard drive using Snow Leopard to back up with Time Machine. When I installed the new HD I installed Leopard (10.5) on it and tried to use time machine to restore the backup I had made using 10.6. Kernel panic screen occurred.

I backed up my system using 10.6 Snow Leopard's Time Machine to an external hard drive. I did this because I purchased a new internal hard drive to upgrade my 2007 White Macbook from 80GB to 320GB. When I installed the new hard drive, I installed 10.4 (Tiger) and then 10.5 (Leopard) and once Leopard was in I tried to use Time Machine to restore my backup from 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and received a kernal panic screen directly after the bootup.
The screen had code asking for 10.6, so does this mean that the computer is searching for Snow Leopard? If so, how can I do this? Will a bootable drive with Snow Leopard on it be able to solve the issue or will I somehow need to find a way to wipe out this new hard drive?

Booting From Snow Leopard Installer Disc
1. Insert Snow Leopard Installer Disc into the optical drive.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
Drive Preparation and Installation
1. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
7. After formatting is complete quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
