TS3276 Maverick's Mail program
Does anyone know why Maverick's Mail program does not update gmail messages in a timely manner?
I have been using Mac Mail for the past 10 years without any problems. Since the upgrade to Mavericks, I have encountered a number of problems (mostly with gmail) and missed important email messages. It's to the point where I cannot trust the software to deliver my email with integrity.
Apple, if you're listening, this fix needs to happen soon or your customers will move on.

Has Yosemite fixed Maverick's Mail problem with Group email addresses?
Does anyone know if Yosemite has fixed the problem that Maverick's Mail program had with Contacts? Maverick's Mail program cannot show Group Address names in the email "To:" window. By default, it shows all of the email addresses in a Group rather than the Group name. The work-around requires putting Group Addresses in the "Bcc:" window. Has that problem been fixed in Yosemite?

Just found out that Maverick's problem with Mail's Group address procedure has resulted in my email accounts being put on hold by my Internet Provider. I'm the president of a local club, and I routinely send out emails to 200+ email addresses several times a month. Since Maverick's Mail now doesn't keep Group addresses hidden when shown in the email "To:" window, we have to put those Group addresses into the "Bcc:" window. The first couple of times that I did that, the emails went through, but the third time that I tried to send out such an email, my Internet Provider shut down my email account with the statement "Your ability to send new mail has been suspended as a high volume of suspicious mail has been sent from your account recently. Please contact your IT administrator." The IT administrator required me to run a virus check and then set a new password for my account before they would reactivate it. In my discussions with several of my Internet Provideer's tech reps, it appears that the way the way that the Internet Provider has their server's security system set, a high volume of email addresses in the "Bcc:" section of emails is enough to shut down an account as suspicious. Until Apple gets this problem fixed, my only options are to switch internet providers (after finding one that will let high volumes of "Bcc:" go through) or switch to an older Mac operating system, which I've done (now using an ancient iMac 400DV running Tiger (OS 10.4.11). Given the high number of businesses, etc., likely to be using Macs, I'm really surprised that Apple has let this problem with Maverick's Mail program go uncorrected.

I found the solution to a Mavericks bug on the Mail program. How can I share it? Several of my mail boxes stopped functioning properly when I updated to Mavericks. The title of the mails stored in the mailbox appear, but the content was unavailable.
After 4 long hours at the phone with the Apple staff unable to help me, I discovered that if I change the name of the mailbox, the contents of the mails stored there become available.
Please, make this solution available to other people!You have found the the way to share it. Include your problem and its solution in a forum post in the Mavericks forums. Then mark you own post with a green solved star.

I can no longer simply double click on a name in the contacts list to place that name into an an email??
You now have to select a single name(or a group), and hit the "TO" button.
Have the engineers at Apple gone nuts?? They just made it more difficult to add names?? Are they going for a windows workability??
If anyone out there can tell me how to go back to this feature, please, please let me know..

RandyOK, JUST TO CLARIFY: I OPEN MY MAIL PROGRAM. I then start a new letter. I then click on the little person icon button which opens up the address/contacts list. This action does not open up the address book as such.
I simply want to select various contacts from the list. But now I can no longer simply go down the list to double click on those contacts that I want to automatically drop into the TO field of my new message. It does not work any longer in Mavericks??
Now I have to click on each contact, and then go up, and click again on the TO button ....
Can Apple please stop making tasks more difficult?? The previous version worked great, and now it has been upgraded so that it doesn't work as simply as it did??

I have many problems with my mail since I moved to mavericks. The filter is very sensitive, read mail appears as unread, I can't drag mail to the folders and more. I can't update the mail program as directed on this page, update says my system is updated
I don't think that a software update from Apple will solve the issues that you are having. You have a rogue installation. After you posted I have just done the following:
Disk Utility can verify my partitioned Volume (including my boot disk) AND REPAIR the non-boot disks on the same Volume without a glitch. It repairs the non-boot disks containing data smoothly.
I have used Mail to send some mails from some Yahoo and Hotmail accounts to my Thunderbird client containing GMail accounts - absolutely normal.
I have iLife '09 but my iMovie '09 and iPhoto '09 open in a jiffy and I see no issues here. I have 6GB RAM (Maximum) on an early 2008 Macbook Pro with a 750GB hard drive partitioned with 120GB reserved for the Boot Drive.
I am sorry that I cannot help further but I am sure there must be a way to reinstall the software without having to revert to restoring your ML backup. I have two clones and if you have such I would attempt to do that through that rather than through Time Machine - that is of course if you have a cloned drive.

Mavericks upgrade has corrupted my Mail program
After upgrading to Mavericks I can no longer open my Mail program, click the icon in the dock and all I get is the Mail menu bar at the top of the screen, no email program on screen, I can still see my desktop, any ideas as to what will fix this, tried Safe Mode boot, didn't help, tried clearing my Caches, didn't help.
Thanks in AdvanceSorted it now, it was a mail account that seemed to be corrupting the whole program, disabled every account and then turned them on 1 at a time, when I found the corrupt account, I just disabled it again and it's now working fine.
Mail menu, then Preferences, then uncheck the Enable this account option on all the accounts, close mail, reopen, then enable 1 account at a time, close then reopen, should work until you find the corrupt account, once it stops working uncheck the last enabled account and continue, mines was only 1 account, so it was easy to solve. -

After installing Mavericks, why can I no longer delete junk mail on my iMAC Mail program? Also, mail is sometimes slow to load in mornings on my iMac after it has appeared on my iPhone. I temporarily solved that by shutting down and reopening mail two or three times.
I have the same problem on my iMac. Most of what it puts in the "junk folder" is junk. I delete all of the messages in the folder and they're back the next time I check it. I have messages in that folder that have were received 2 months ago! I'm thinking of unchecking "junk folder" in preferences. Very frustrating.

My mail program does not update when I delete emails in my other email programs (i.e. it still shows messages in my mail inbox when I've deleted them). I think this started with Maverick? Any solutions?
one is gmail, one is a university email and they are both IMAP accounts (not that I know what that means)....

I want to backup several hundreds of emails to an external hard disk. The mail program is Apple Mail version 7.1. The Operating System is OSX Version 10.9.1 Mavericks. Can anybody advise me either where I might find instructions to undertake the backup or send me the instructions

No, in terms of Mail.app. As WZZZ said, this limit is set by your ISP.
Yes, in terms of netiquette. Google it. Any file > 1MB is, IMHO, too big for e-mail. Nowadays, this rule may be more relaxed, because more people have broadband. You should check with your intended recipient. -
I am not able to Mobile Me email account to connect with iCloud or my Apple Mail program. Don't know if my settings are correct or not. Can anyone help me with this please?

Mail program not responding with maverick
After upgrading to Mavrick, my mail program has become unresponsive. I have reset accounts several times and now it wont load. Help
First I'd backup your whole Mail folder.
Try trashing this file first, then logout/in...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
If that doesn't work try the .plists in...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/ -
When away from my home, I need to utilize iPhone Hotspot (AT&T). I can access RoadRunner Webmail and download to my iPhone with or without the hotspot. But, if I wish to use the Iphone Hotspot to download email via the Apple mail program on my laptop, I get an error message indicating: "The sender address [username redacted]@twcny.rr.com was rejected by the server smtp-server.twcny.rr.com" but I am able to access internet sites. Anyone run into this issue? Any fixes? Thankx

I just do not want to use the mail program. I go directly to my email account. Mail always pops up when I try to email something off of the internet. Do not want to use that program. It is not working.
Thank youHi Judy, one silly thing abiut it, is you have to setup Mail, even with a fake account to get to Mail>Preferences to select your default app for Mail!???
Though I dislike Mail.App myself, it's a lot easier than WebMail n a Browser though... maybe we could help you set it up for a try... since you need to anyway to change the default Mail App? -
On starting up yesterday, instead of opening mail, received window labeled Mail Import telling me I had to import all my mail messages to use the "new" Mail. There was no new mail program! It is trying to import 40,000+ messages - apparently every sent, received, deleted, etc folder since the beginning. It stops at the same place every time. Cannot use mail at all. I can receive my mail on my iPad and iPod so it is just the MacBook Pro. Has the program crashed or been corrupted. What can I do to fix. I have been looking everywhere. I do not have that amount of messages. I empty my inbox and trash and sent and deleted folders regularly. HELP! Sharon486

This sometimes helps:
Quit Address Book.
In folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook drag file AddressBook.data to the desktop. Rename AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data and restart AB. If your contacts are not back quit AB again and repeat the drag/rename process, this time with AddressBook.data.beforesave.
If you get your contacts back, now is probably a good time to use the AB menu item File/Back up Address Book.
