TSM Configuration

Hi All,
I am ABAP developer and unfortunately we have no basis team even a person. All the activities and data in Development has been lost due to crash of HDD. Our development server down since a month and Oracle DBA technical staff, copy production server to development server. Mean new development server is the copy of production server. Now i am facing following problems:
1 Development server is non-modifiable, therefore no development can be made.
2. Transport management system is not configure.
Can anybody tell me how to resolve these problem and what other pre-caution / pre-home work should I made?
Regards,
Syed Tayab Shah

Dear Markus,
I had login to production server with 000 client and run spam transaction following screen appear. I had marked error in error line.

  • RMAN/TSM Configuration - Best Practices?

Wondering how best to configure RMAN with TSM from a network perspective. Dual HBA's? Suggestions?
    Thanks.

    * The OWB client software will reside on each user's windows desktop.
    Yes.
    * Should there be one repository that will deploy to the runtime environments of TEST, USER ACCEPTANCE and PRODUCTION environments? or should there be three repositories, one for each environment?
    One.
    * If there is only a single repository that will deploy to all three environments, should it reside on TEST, USER ACCEPTANCE or PRODUCTION server?
Test, but you need a repository on the other environments too.
    * Does OWB have sufficient version control capabilities to drive three environments simultaneously?
No, no version control at all. You can buy a third-party tool like http://www.scm4all.com
    * Is it possible to have an additional development repository on a laptop to do remote development of source/target definition, ETL etc and then deploy it to a centralized development repository? Perhaps it is possible to generate OMB+ scripts from the laptop repository and then run them against the centralized repository on the shared server.
Use the export/Import from the OWB via mdl-Files.

@Markus: thanks for the hint with the quote-formatting option!
    Concerning the issue:
Sorry, but you misunderstood the way how the general BACKINT for Oracle interface is used with MaxDB.
See, MaxDB comes with a own BACKINT executable.
This is a enhanced BACKINT tools that allows pipes as data input channels - which is not supported by the Backint for Oracle.
The MaxDB Backint serves as a adapter program between the MaxDB Kernel and the backint for Oracle program.
    So instead of
    BACKINT:     D:\usr\sap\SCD\SYS\exe\uc\NTAMD64\backint.exe
you should point it to the MaxDB provided adapater program.
I propose to revisit the documentation on that topic [Connecting to a Backint for Oracle Interface |http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_7/45/746a5712e14022e10000000a1553f6/content.htm].

  • RMAN RETENTION POLICY configuration.

Currently I am doing RMAN backup once a day and save the copy to tapes through TSM. If I want to keep 15 copies of the db (NOT 15 same copies. It will be one copy from every day backup, so each copy will be different). How should I configure the RETENTION POLICY? Shall I do
    RMAN> CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 15 DAYS;
    Or shall I do
    RMAN> CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 3;
Also do I need to configure anything on the TSM side?
    Thanks.

To keep the last 15 full backups use redundancy 15.
You don't need to do anything on TSM if:
    - you use RMAN to backup directly to tape device and
    - you use RMAN DELETE OBSOLETE statements to purge old backups.

  • Oracle DB and File system backup configuration

    Hi,
As I understand from the help documents and guides, brbackup, brarchive and brrestore are the tools which are used for backing up and restoring the oracle database and the file system. We have TSM (Trivoli Storage manager) in our infrastructure for managing the backup centrally. Before configuring the backup with TSM, I want to test the backup/restore configuration locally i.e. storing the backup to local file system and then restoring from there. Our backup strategy is to have full online backup on the weekends and incremental backup on the weekdays. Given this, following are the things, I want to test.
    1. Full online backup (to local file system)
    2. Incremental online backup (to local file system)
    3. Restore (from local file system)
I found help documents to be very generic and couldn't get any specific information for the comprehensive configuration to achieve this. Can someone help with end to end configuration?
We are using SAP Portal 7.0 (NW2004s) with Oracle 10g database hosted on AIX server.

Thanks for your feedback. I am almost clear about this issue now, except one point need to be confirmed: do you mean that on linux or unix, if required, we can set "direct to disk" from OS level, but for windows, it's default "direct to disk", we do not need to set it manually.
And I have a further question: If a database is stored on a SAN disk, say, a volume from disk array, the disk array could take snapshot for a disk on block level, we need to implement online backup of database. The steps are: alter tablespace begin backup, alter system suspend, take a snapshot of the volume which store all database files, including datafiles, redo logs, archived redo logs, controll file, service parameter file, network parameter files, password file. Do you think this backup is integrity or not. please note, we do not flush the fs cache before all these steps. Let's assume the SAN cache could be flushed automatically. Can I think it's integrity because the redo writes are synchronous.

  • How to configure sudo for particular command with arugment

    Hi All,
I need to configure sudo for a below activity, Its working fine
    User_Alias NOC_L1_USER = baj33, edg246
    Host_Alias NOC_L1_HST = ch02520
    Cmnd_Alias NOC_L1_CMD = /bin/su - root -c /usr/bin/dsmc q backup "*"
    NOC_L1_USER NOC_L1_HST = NOPASSWD: NOC_L1_CMD
But in that the danger thing is the user can able use restore argument also "/usr/bin/dsmc restore source target"
Can someone help me how to use this particular command /usr/bin/dsmc q backup "*" alone ?
    Thanks,
    Senthilkumaran G

I'm not sure I understand your question exactly. I think you want to run the TSM client command to view what's been backed up, but you don't want them to restore anything. If that's the case, I think you should quote the whole command.
    Cmnd_Alias NOC_L1_CMD = "/bin/su - root -c /usr/bin/dsmc q backup "*""
I'm not sure how sudo is going to handle the quotes around the *.

  • Third party backup software support for dataguard configurations

Any Oracle document about the subject?
I would be interested in an answer about backupexec 2010 r2 in particular, because reading the manual for its oracle agent there is information about Oracle/RMAN and RAC support, but nothing about Dataguard integration, that could be a value added.
Anyone using third party backup agents in a Dataguard configuration?
Interested in version 11gR2 on Linux.
    Thanks,
    Gianluca

yes, you should be able to use the full backup taken in middle and use the rest of the log backups taken afterwards to restore the database.while I do not use TSM, we use QUEST(DELL) LITESPEED, that takes full backup once a day and log backups
    every 15mins.
if someone accidentally takes full backup in the middle of day with out 'copy only',
log sequence will break and successive log backups depend on this full back up.
while this should be prevented from happening in first place, you can still restore from native full backup and then apply log backups taken from third party taken after the  native Full backup.
if this happens, I would restore the FULLBACKP with NORECOVERY using NATIVE SQL and then use  lite speed syntax to restore the log backups.Remember, native sql cannot read third party formatted backups(atleast litespeed), thats why I restore the full backup
using native sql, since it was taken with native sql backup and log backups using litespeed syntax.
    Hope it Helps!!
Thanks, well it was just a theory discussion we had about the issue. But none of us could find info on the internet easy to prove our point :) Thanks.

  • ADI0052E: TSM API Error: ANS1311E (RC11)   Server out of data storage space

    Hello guys,
I have a problem with the backup on MaxDB. It always fails with the following error message
ADI0052E: TSM API Error: ANS1311E (RC11)   Server out of data storage space
Has anyone faced this problem before? Any solution how could this be solved?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards,
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
Check the TSM server and make sure the primary storage pool that is defined
as your copy destination for the management class you are using is not full
and or you have not run out of scratch tapes. In either case a storage pool
has filled up and cannot migrate data causing the RC11. This is usually what
an RC11 Server out of data storage space means.
I am sharing configuration for Oracle database. You can check similar configuration for MaxDB database.
when i defined the node in my tsm server :
REG NODE hostname_oracle password maxnummp=2, it was defined in standard storage pool, i moved it in other storage.
    Hope this is useful.

You will have to configure two files! dsm.opt and dsm.sys!
In the tdpo.opt ( by default found in /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin), dsm.opt (server stanza) and dms.sys if you are going to do system backup.
    sample of a tdpo.opt
    * IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases
    * Data Protection for Oracle

  • TSM agent installation

I have "IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Client Version 5, Release 3, Level 2.2" installed on one machine .
Do you know how to link this TSM agent with oracle .Dose there is any liberaries that need to be linked or something like this ?

    Hi
What do you really nead? Do you want to backup your database on tape? First of all you must install TDP and TSM (client) on the machine you want to backup.
After you configured TSM and TDP you can try to connect to your tape using a similar command, where tdpo_optfile define the parameter for the channel using TDP.
    allocate channel ch1 type 'sbt_tape' parms='ENV=(tdpo_optfile=/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64/tdpo.opt)';
The content for this file is something like:
    DSMI_ORC_CONFIG    /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm_lanfree.opt
    DSMI_LOG           /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/api/bin64/
    TDPO_FS            oracle_db
    TDPO_NODE          <sid_node>
    TDPO_OWNER         oracle
    TDPO_PSWDPATH      /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64Bye, Aron

  • TSM Process help , please

    Hello Experts,
Please, let me know the following:
q1) how to link between sap and  third party tool like TSM, or any other tool (detailed process )
q2) how do we write from SAP to TSM  (looking for detailed process)
q3) How do we restore from TSM when in need  ( basically i am looking for process and command in specific )
    Env: oracle 9.x , hp ,  SAP 4.7 ee
    Thanks & Regards
    vk

    Hi,
    1) If you have already installed TSM servers...
you need to add an extra node to that server.
then you will have client side configuration file.
DSM.sys and dsm.opt. (these files will hold the details about the which server it will be communicating to and location of passwprd files log files etc)
    more in this link:
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tivihelp/v1r1/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.itsmerp.doc/fbrd000002.htm
    2) The SAP system uses the backup control files like initSID.sap....if we use any backup tools like TSM then we need to specify the location and define that file at that loaction...that is initSID.utl file .
Using all these files the SAp system backs up the data to the specified TSm server .
    3) while restoring also it uses these files to pick up the right server and we anyway specify the *.anf or *.aff file (backup file /usr/sap/sapbackup) it restores.
It is using SAp provided utilities as brbackup and brrestore to do this .
And DSm.sys,dsm.opt are the configuration files.
Backup utility file as initSID.utl and initSID.sap.
apart from this lot of other autonication files ,password files ,error log file, log location all these will be specified while configuring the node they are used when ever TSm is used for restore or backup.
    Thanks.
PS: For details refre to oficial Redbooks for TSm from IBM site.
All these are on AIX it may change a bit for HP ux .

  • TSM Services

    Dear,
I have TSM software running on our exchange and I wants to know which services related to TSM software should be start running in services? I have below services for TSM.
    1- TPM Base Services.
    2- TSM  Scheduler HQEX-TDP
    3- TSM AGENT
    4- TSM CAD
    5- TSM Client Acceptor
    6- TSM Client Scheduler
    7- TSM Remote Client Agent
    8- TSM StorageAgent1
    Thanks..

This does not really have anything to do with DPM. But from what i can see on the name in your services the services are.
TSM Scheduler HQEX-TDP (Data protection for exchange, this one is the exchange data backup)
TSM Client Scheduler ( Normal server backup, system state and disks unless the dsm.opt is configure to skip them)
Now i can't exactly know how your system is configured, but it's the scheduler services for each client (baclient and TDP that is the most important)

  • RMAN backup problme becasue of TSM

I Joined one call today , topic was RMAN backups problem because of TSM, I am wondering what is TSM, i guess Tivoli Storage manager...Not sure, and how it can effect RMAN Backup & its performance...Just trying to get general idea....

Yes, TSM is Tivoli Storage Manager which is IBM's backup/recovery/storage management product. RMAN needs a media manager interface to write to tapes, this is where TSM comes into play. It acts as this media manager passing off the data to write to tape. This is made possible via a library which TSM provides (an Oracle library link file is replaced with one pointing to the TSM library file) to inform RMAN of it's presence and enable it's use. There are also configuration settings (network timeout, throughput, client name, media server name, etc.) which to a great deal affect the performance of RMAN and TSM to the extent where backups may not be possible if setup incorrectly.
For more information you can look at the IBM site.
    Hope this helps.
