Turning iPhone 3GS into an "iTouch 3GS"
OK, my new iPhone has arrived so I can stop using my 3GS as an interim replacement for my lost 5. HOWEVER, there are some apps that won't work correctly on iOS 7 (and later) and that will not be updated as the developer has passed away. Since I still need to use these apps, how do I go about syncing the 3GS without losing apps that run under iOS 6.1.6 being replaced by those that HAVE been updated for iOS 7 and later? Will iTunes just not install the "iOS 7 minimum" apps and leave the older apps untouched on the 3GS?
Anyone? Or are you all clueless on this?

Turning iPhone 3 into iPod toouch
Have an old iphone 3 that I want to give to daughter for an ipod touch. Turn it on and it tries to activate, but is never able to. Same result with or without the sim card. Same trying from the phone or plugged into mac using iTunes. Says the activation server is temporarily unavailable.
Since it won't activate, I can't do a think with it in iTunes, like restore or upgrade.

I went back to ATT thinking that might solve it. They put a new sim in but still could not activate. According to the support articles, the iphone acts like the touch when the sim is removed.
In that case, I'd try resetting the phone to factory settings (make sure you save any data first).

I am not sure but I believe that if it has a SIM card in it and you connec the phone to itunes it should appear in the list of devices in the left margin of itunes

Hi,
I would like to give my old iphone 3g to a daycare teacher who just broke her ipod on a field trip - so sad.
I don't have the sim card in my phone anymore and when I plug it in to itunes I cannot access anything! I just want to set it up as an ipod touch
(sim card was removed by an online company that I tried to sell the phone to - when they offered $30 I had them mail it back but they wouldn't return my sim card)
Any help is much appreciated.
ThanksI do have a SIM card for my iphone 4, but they are different sizes. I didn't try to insert the sim card for fear it might hurt it. My carrier for both phones is At&t. Thoughts?

Turn iPhone 4s into iPod Touch - will not recognize sim card
My iPhone 4s will no longer recognize a sim card. I didn't trade it in b/c the Apple salesperson said I could still use it as an iPod touch. (I want to use it at home to play Pandora/iTunes/Sirius over wifi to bluetooth speaker.) The salesperson did not warn me not to reset the phone.
After completing the reset, it will not allow me get past the "no sim card" message. How can I bypass this in order to use the phone as an iPod?Yes - I took it to ATT and they put in 2 different new sim cards. It will not recognize them at all. I took it to Apple and they said it was hardware (though after reading other discussions here, I am more suspicious of iOS 7).
They offered a trade in but I asked if I could still use it as an iPod touch. The genius dude said yes, but did not not tell me I could never reset it. Very frustrated. -

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

If no other USB power adapter is available, try connecting to a high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode.
Try another USB cable if available.

If it is charging, but not recognized in iTunes take a look at one of these articles depending on your Operating System.

So when I plug my iPhone 3GS into my iMac, for music reasons, it says I have 123 songs. When I plug my iTouch into my iMac it says I have 565 songs on my iTouch. I have the same apple idea for both my iPhone and iTouch, how do I transfer my 565 songs on my iTouch to my iPhone? PLEASE HELP!!!
When you connect your iPad or iPod to the Mac, click on the device name in iTunes - don't click on the arrow on the device. Then click on the Music tab in the main window pane. Now you should see 'Sync Music' and all your playlists, artists and albums. Here you mark the checkboxes for what should be synced.

Syncing an iphone cannot transform the internal hardare of the iphone into something else.
It is still the exact same phone as it was before you synced.
Please explain why you think your iphone has been transformed into a completely different device. -
My iphone 3gs will not turn on. I plug it in to the wall and still get nothing...I plug into my computer and itunes nor my computer recognizes it, any ideas?
Could be a problem with the 30-pin connector port or the cable. Is there an Apple Store or Apple authorized support center nearby?

IPhone 3gs wont turn back on once it goes into sleep mode!
2 days ago my iPhone 3gs (OS 6.0.1) has gone completely wacko on me and i'm completely frustrated! I have my phone set to have the screen shut off after 5 minutes. Usually, to just reaccess the phone I just simply hit the home button. Now, if I let it go into sleep mode, the phone WILL NOT come back on! I went online and did some research, and it suggested holding the home button and the sleep button for 10 seconds to get it to come back on. It works most times, but sometimes it takes a few tries to get it to come back on, and when it does come back on it takes forever to load up. But the whole thing happens all over again when it goes into sleep mode. My phone is fine as long as I set it to never go into sleep mode, but it is killing my battery. I need to be able to put it into sleep mode as I have to be able to go all day without charging it at my job. PLEASE help...I don't know what's going on with it. I have never done anything to it (jailbreaking, illegal stuff, etc.) and I do all the updates that it asks to do.

My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.
Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. What can I do in this situation if some has some solution to this problem please let me know on [email protected] Thanks!Not sure if this Term is Relevant towards an iPhone but, my iPhone won't Post unless if it's plugged into a Charger.

I have an iPhone 3gs that is out of warranty. I purchased this phone from AT&T. Last night my phoone went completely dead (battery percentage was at 96% just moments before) and now will not turn back on. I have tried just about everything I have found on discussion boards- trying hard reset, plugging into itunes, charging for15-20 mins then holding down sleep and homebuton..... NOTHING works. This phone will not light up AT ALL. My computer wont even recognize it. Is there anything else I can do?

Hi, its my first time on here, due to the fact that I have never ever had any problems with my iPhone 3gs.
Until 3 weeks ago.
It all started when my e-mail decided that it was going to be difficult. so I go to restart my iPhone and my screen lock/ power button does not respond at all. then the trouble ensues.. two days later, (after I ran the battery to nadda so it would turn off) and was fully charged, my phone cut out while I was sending a text. I was connected to wifi. the cell service bars were gone, and 3-5 seconds later my wifi disappeared also. at this point I was thinking dude? and the touch screen was still functioning. so I checked the network settings and my screen became unresponsive. my phone then went instantly to a black but still lit screen and then was off. my lock button still would not work so it wouldn't turn on with that, so I hit the home button and it showed a screen with a iTunes symbol and a USB cord, and a slide for emergency call bar. also there was a little quetion mark circle thing so I tapped it and a screen with two four letter acronyms and a number set for each showed up. long story shortened, I call apple and am on the phone with them for 5-6 hours over the next two weeks. they were of absolutely no use, and proceeded to lay into me about how I am using too much data.. and that my phone is probably not going to be fixable.
I get it to work by popping my sim card and restoring it then puting it back in and factory reset it with the sim card in it.
I get it working again and it is fine until last night. same exact thing.
what can I do?? im lost.

THANK YOU!!!If I was in your shoes, I would choose to restore the iPhone with iTunes and then choose to NOT restore a previous backup. I'd then go on to set up the phone as though it were totally new, and choose the stuff to load onto it.
The reason I'd go through that trouble.. even though it meant losing a lot of settings and having to set stuff up again .. is because I wasn't sure I could trust the backup that it's restoring from.
If you have trouble again after doing the fresh reload -- especially if it's soon after you do it -- you may have a hardware issue with the phone, such as faulty flash memory or a processor chip that's failing. If that's the case, you'll want to consider your repair/replacement options at that point.

Hi, I have been experiencing a drastic slowdown in the speed that internet pages load, for about a week now. They used to appear almost instantly after hitting the reload button. Now most, but strangely not all, will take 10 to 20 seconds to load and
