Turning off sounds at power up/down

Is there a way to disable the loud and annoying "Droid" + "explosion" sound at phone power-up, as well as the loud jingle sound at power-down? I cannot find any way to do this under Apps | Settings | Sound Settings.

WCMack,
Hi! Were you able to locate the system volume under "Sounds Settings>Volume"? I was able to verify and find it on Charge I had on hand.  I would try to do a soft reset and pull the battery while powered on. Leave the battery out for 10-15 seconds and power back on. If you still do not have the option for system volume, a master reset will reset to default and the option will appear. Make sure your contacts are backed up to Gmail or Backup Assistant before performing the reset. After, it will walk through the activation and set-up, including the Gmail log in.
Please post here to confirm resolution.
Thank you!

  • Grey screen with message "turn off computer with power button until switch off then press again power button"

    Dear all,
I'm very hungry with my iMac and my Time Capsule :
I try for two weeks to restore my iMac without any success...
I wait 80 hours to finally have the message again and again : "to restart your computer : turn off computer with power button until switch off then press again power button".
But my iMac do not work !
    Could you help me?

    Hello, that's a kernel panic...
    http://thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X 10.6 Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Satellite M60/M55: Turns off after disconnecting power

Reposting because the original threads are locked.

My M60 sometimes turns off immediately after unplugging mains power (either the AC mains or DC plug from the laptop), instead of resuming on battery power, although the battery is full.
The battery is OK & the laptop starts up regularly on battery power after pushing the on switch.
The Toshiba Power Saver seems to work OK & I have the latest BIOS.
I always save my work before disconnecting, but I still don't like this behavior & would appreciate some good advice.
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19092
Satellite M55 turns off when disconnecting power cable when disconnecting my laptop from the outlet rather than switching to the battery, my laptop will often simply turn off even though the battery is completely charged. Other times things work as they should.
I had the motherboard replaced for another reason and was fairly surprised to notice the problem after replacement (but without OS reinstall).
The main suspect is the TPS and its driver; some months ago a new version was released on Toshiba support site for M60 (though the file dates are not fresh, and I believe I have installed this version earlier).
So, I removed both TPS and TPS driver. I tested many times and it did not happen again. Not even when I reinstalled them.
While testing I turned off HD write caching to avoid file corruption problems (but this slows down HD operation, most notably hibernation).
I'm not sure if this actually works because also earlier the computer would shut down just occasionally, not every time. But this may be a clue in case you have this problem. If you do, please test and report the result, no matter what the outcome is.

What to say dude. The problem is that this issue happens ONLY sometimes and therefore its not easy to locate the real reason for such shutdowns.
However, I would try to provide some useful hints but first of all it would be useful to know how old your battery is.
Fact is that old and stressed batteries lose the own performance very quickly.
My battery is about 3 years old and my notebook would run on the battery for about 10-20 seconds even though its fully charged. The performance is simple very weak!
At the other hand the issue could be related to the faulty power supply electronic on the board
As you see its not easy to say whats exactly wrong and as already suggested in the other threads (locked) you should ask a technician for a notebook check.
The guys could run some diagnostic tests and could locate fault.
    Best regards

  • I used to be able to turn off my apps by holding down the icon but since the update it wont work. have they changed how to stop them running

I used to be able to turn off my apps by holding down the icon and then it would turn off, now when I do the same thing nothing happens. Have they changed the way you turn off apps since the new update.

Double tap the home button and swipe upwards on the preview of the App (not the App Icon).

  • Turning off sound alerts altogether

I've plugged in headphones to my iBook, but get annoying sound effects as I work in Microsoft Word, with sounds everytime I cut/paste, drag a word, etc. and at the same volumn as the music I'm listening to on the headphones. I work a lot on Word and want to turn off sound alerts altogether but don't see that option.

Did you look in your Word Preferences?
In my version (Word 2004) in Prefences:General is a checkbox
    "Provide feedback with sound"

    debrafromusa,
This would be an extremely bad idea, the start up tone is there for a reason. It tells you when your system is attempting to  boot, it is also necessary in the even resets like a PRAM reset are done. There is software to mask the sound however as stated it is a very poor idea.
Also, why turn it off. Why not simply put the display to sleep when the machine is not in use. You can easily do that in System Preferences - Energy Saver

  • Will not:  rotate screen, camera will not work, iPad will not turn off, sound on side.

Ipad will not turn off, sound button does not work, camera does not work,  screen will not rotate.  Have new ios and update.

    Reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Note: Data will not be affected but settings will be reset.

  • Power saver turns off sound

While listening to podcasts, my iPod goes to power save mode (screen gets dark), but this turns off the sound as well.  The podcast stops playing. I think it plays for about one minute, then shuts down.

Yeah well my PSU is ok cause i just baught a new one and i hope i dont have a short.
Do you think that maybe the graphic card isnt compatable or something cause these things started happening when i changed my graphic card and this only happens while i'm playing games cause not even if i have loads of software running it still wont do it.
And does anyone know of software which i can use to check my RAM?
    Thanks.

  • How to turn off sound in twitter app when I scroll down?

I know there must be an easy way to do this, but I can't find it. I have twitter notification sounds turned off, which is what I want. Inside the twitter app, though, when I scroll down to see new tweets, I get a sort of suck-then-pop sound. I don't need that sound and would like to turn it off, as it irritates my spouse if she's nearby while I'm checking twitter.
Phone is iPhone 5, iOS 8.1.3

Depends if the window has a separate volume control or not.  You can have multiple QuickTime movies running with the sound muted in some but not others - just slide the volume all the way down in the ones you don't want to hear.
Other than that, I don't know of a way.

  • I don't think my computer is completely shutting down.  I think it is only going into sleep mode.  When I hit the power button, it turns off immediately instead of shutting down.

I don't think my Mac Pro is completely shutting down.  When I hit the power button, it just turns off immediately instead of going through the normal shut down procedures.  I heard that I should try resetting the SMC, which involves removing the power cord.  However, when I remove and replace the power cord, it turns on automatically, so I can't even properly reset that to see if it is the issue.  Is this probably a power supply issue?
Actually, in case this information helps... The computer went into sleep mode the other day, and would not come back.  This is a work computer that I use for our photography business, and at this point I am just trying to run it as a drive to get the photos onto our new computer, but this issue is keeping us from doing so.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Try a SMC reset.

  • How do i turn off sound and text notifications?

I find both the text and sound notifications very annoying. I do not play games or do anything other than work on this computer. When I unchecked the "show a notification" and "play a sound" boxes, the notifications and sounds do not turn off. I also prepared a 5 second sound file of silence and checked the "Play a Sound" and "use the following sound" boxes with the name of the silence in the required field. Nothing has worked. I don't like being disturbed when I work. I have done the checking and unchecking before restarting and also starting the computer up after a complete shut down.

If you unchecked the option in Thunderbird then I doubt that is where the notification is coming from. MACs are notorious for supplying an additional notification. I would check your operating system for the source of the notification.
