Turning on Layers with a Script?
I have an InDesign file and a data file I want to merge in InDesign. I need to be able to turn on a layer based on a field being filled in a certain way. I haven't been able to find how to do this in the scripting section, in this forum, or on other sites so far. Is this do-able, and how? (New to this, please be detailed in your answer) Thanks!

No, that's Javascript, one of the three languages you can use InDesign. You set you wanted to enable/activate a layer with a script, and that one line does that. You do of course need to replace Layer 2 with the name of the layer you want to activate.

Modding the Export Layers to Files script to preserve .jpg quality
Please forgive me if I am posting this incorrectly, but as the thread I initially replied to is marked as Answered I started to wonder whether my question would be seen or not so I started this new thread. My original question is located in the thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/2795719#2795719 because Kari was having a similar issue to mine, but with a different file format. My original text:
I am having a similar issue, except that I need to save each layer as a .jpg, and the Export Layers to Files script is compressing the images in some fashion so that a previously seamlessly tiling layer now has a border that ruins the tile. If I save each layer individually using either the Save As command or Save for Web and Devices with the proper settings (Maximum Quality, Progressive, and Baseline Standard), the resulting images don't acquire this border, so I feel pretty certain it is something in the script that is messing up (changing the compression of) the layers, but I honestly don't know what. I have tried modifiying the jpeg portion of the script this way, hoping to prevent it from deviating from the usual Save As options:

but this doesn't seem to affect whatever setting is being changed. Layers saved to .jpg this way still acquire the border. I don't see what line might control whether the image is saved as progressive or not, nor anything to affect the text setting "Maximum" that I use when I successfully save each layer individually.
I am a complete novice at scripting, so please excuse/explain the obvious mistakes I may be making here.
I have since installed the script listener plug in and isolated a bit of script for saving the intended way, and hope to insert this snippet into the Export Layers as Files script, but I can tell that some of the lines are extraneous (like where it points to the file path I took), but I don't know what is safe to trim out. I sincerely appreciate any assistance with this!Here is the script that uses scriptlistner to do the jpeg save. Note I changed the name by adding '_mod' to the end to remind you that it has been edited. You can remove the origianl version by moving the file to another folder outside the scripts folder or by adding ~ at the start of the filename.
I recommend saving this as Export Layers to Files_mod.jsx. If this doesn't work for you we can try using the scriptlistener saveForWeb.

How do I automate merging multiple layers with same name?
It was suggested I ask this question in this forum - any advise gratefully received!
I have to combine over a 800 files into one photoshop file. Each file has with sixty layers. The 60 layers in each file are named identically: Layer 1, Layer 2, Layer 3 up to Layer 59, Layer 60. My intention is to create a final composite file with 60 merged layers (for an animation). That is, with all the Layer 1's merged, all the Layer 2's merged, all the Layer 3's merged and so on. What I need is a script which will merge all layers with the same layer name, ie all the Layer 1s, all the Layer 2s etc (ideally without having to merge each set of layers separately).
I am using Photoshop CS6 and at present I am merging by using the find/name function, then highlighting all the layers selected and then using 'merge layers'.
Any ideas?

I found a script online that turns my images into a square (by extending the canvas size of the short side to match the length of the long side) which is awesome, but I would like to do an additional step and I have no scripting experience so hopefully someone can help.
now that my images are square I want to set a maximum dimension of 2500x2500 px, i have found scripts to set a resolution to a specific size but what I want to make sure I avoid is upsampling, so I just want any image larger than 2500x2500 px to down sample to 2500x2500 px
any knowledge on the code for this would be much appreciated.
When I am at the machine with the script I currently use I will paste it here in the meantime if you know something about scaling images down but preventing scaling them up I could probably chimp with the code I have and make it work.Photoshop shipts with a plug-in script that will do that for you. its found under menu File>Automate>Fit Image. Set both width and height to 2500 and check do not resize images that fit so your small square images will not be resized up in size. You could also just create an action that uses both scripts
step 1 menu File>Scripts>Make canvas Square.
setp 2 menu File>Automate>Fit Image. The 2500 x 2500 no upsize option settings will be recorded into the step and when the action is used its dialog will be bypassed and the recorded settings will ne used.
You can then batch the action using menu file>Automate>Batch or menu File>Scripts>Image Processor. -
I've never had this problem before, I noticed improvements a few days ago regarding pattern tool but the last few days I've been unable to fill layers with a user defined pattern. This is one of the main reasons I use photoshop and it's giving me a headache!!! I have to turn in some patterns by monday and this is not working, please fix it!!

Thanks for your email. I was able to download and install this morning without any problems. I uninstalled the old version yesterday and restarted my computer but still got errors. However when I turned off last night, windows ran updates and that must of fixed the problem. I also got rid of firefox and put of google chrome. Place Call and continue with remaining script steps - is it possible?
We recently picked up IPCelerate which has the ability to send a Text display or Text-to-Speech message to a group of phones simply by dialing a configured directory number. We would like to text our call center agents with this application when a caller has been waiting for X number of loops.
Attempting to use 'Place Call' to initiate this text page works, however, the script terminates immediately after the call is placed and we would like to continue on with the remainder of our script. In this case, on Success go back to the top of the loop.
I have also tried to use Call Subflow instead, thinking an executed sub-routine placing the call would return to the original script and continue on, but it didn't. In both cases, the system comes back and states " I'm sorry, we're currently experiencing system problems and are unable to process your call. Please try again later."
If there's a way to get this to work via Place Call or another process to accomplish the same result, that would be fantastic. I appreciate any feedback.

I did get to an answer similar to what r.stockton did to solve the issue, but I left Exception (ContactInactiveException) Goto in ours to isolate exceptions because we have multiple contacts within our script. Turns out that this particular exception was thrown by the PlaceCall step ending abruptly by our paging system answering and hanging up the call quickly. MIVR logs showed that it didn't bomb as immediately as when the debugs showed it crashing - it actually went into a loop over and over with the Trigger contact before failing.
We had some help from TAC on this, but below is what we did to keep some error checking and notification we use available to us. We are running a check to make sure the Call Trigger (original call) is still active.

If this takes the true branch, it means the triggering contact is actually still active. In our scenario, CallActive (boolean variable) is verified true and continues with the script without going into the loop of death.

Setting clone/healing sample points with a script.
Is it possible to set a clone and/or healing sample point with a script? I prefer to clone and heal onto a blank layer so having a way to set the sample point on another layer using a script would save a lot of time. Otherwise I have to go back and forth between the layers.
I can't always use the "Current and below" setting due to the different blend modes on some layers. It would also be difficult to hide all other layers while doing this since I can't really see the overall effect it has on the image.
What I'd ideally want to do is keep the blank clone layer active and when I set the sample point, set it from the layer below the currently active layer.
More info: The blank cloning layers are set as a Clipping Mask for the original. I'm using CS4.

Sathya MurthyI don’t think one can select Layers in the Layers Panel or on the Canvas while a Script is running.
One could select the Layers via a dialog, but that would take focus and need to present a list of the Layers.
Alternatively it might be possible to set up a work-around by selecting a Layer, invoking a Script (either by Keyboard Shortcut or from a Configurator Panel) that stores data (the activeLayer in this case), repeating that as often as needed and at the end of the selection process trigger another Script (or possibly the same with the shift-key pressed) that then processes that stored information.
But maybe someone else has more insightr or a better idea. -

My mom put my ipod 5th gen in the house somewhere and it was turned off. It is connected to the internet in the house. How do i turn it on with the Findmyiphone or something else? It was an expensive gift and we can't find it now! Please help! How do i turn it on without finding it because she can't remember where it was.
That is so dumb...Apple is the best and most techinological company IN THE WORLD and they don't have the time to invent something like that? HUH? All they are worried about is making the "Worlds best Phone" and they can't take the time out to help their users or anybody that has their products. All they have is "Find mt Iphone" Well they should step up and do something else to help people like me out. Find a way to turn it on and you can find it or find a way to turn it on remotely.

Problem with Java Script after upgrade from BW 3.5 to BI7
Dear Colleagues,
We're facing the issue with Java Script after upgrade of BW 3.5 to BI7.
Just after update we checked the basic functionality and it occured that some of web templates that use Java Script don't work. They generate seelction screen, but after selection the screen becomes blank without any error messages.
We're currently stucked since web templates weren't converted to BI7 version so they should work exactly as before the upgrade.
We compared the Java code with other environment that was not upgraded - it's perfectly the same.
The only explanation that comes to my mind is that some Java Script settings on the server level were changed during the upgrade but I have no idea where I can check that.

Unfortunately, http cache clean-up did not help. But there is another funny thing I found - for exactly the same 3.5 webtemplate html code returned from WebAS 3.5 was different then from 7.0.
Unfortunately, this editor does not allow to paste complete code, even in CODE brackets, but here are main differences:

Need help with a script applied by GPO
Hello,
I need to automate WebFeed insertion for Remote App Users at user logon.
RDS 2012 R2 in place. Remote Apps are provided to W7 clients.
Currently, WebFeed link must be inserted manually in each user's Control Panel\RemoteApp and Desktop Connections. There
is no straight forward way from Microsoft.
But there is a script and instruction I found on web...
I followed the instruction... Created GPO. GPO applies to user but nothing happens.
Can somebody check the script and the instruction that I could wrongly applied.
In instruction there is no word about changing something in the script but only wcx file that the script should
use.
The script is below and here is my .wcx file:

connection appears for 10 seconds on the task bar and disappears.
Looks like it's trying...
Check please if the script really should not be touched and provide some troubleshooting
steps.

A couple of years ago I was using an AppleScript file (thanks to someone else's assistance) but it no longer works.
I have an extra internal drive, that is partitioned, and used for sequential daily backups. When the computer starts up, of course all the drives mount - but I prefer that they are off the desktop until neded.
Rather than selecting the volumes and then dragging to the Trash, I found it easier to have a script run at startup which then asks if the drives should be unmounted.
Things were great - until I upgraded to Tiger.
I am hoping that someone can tell me what's wrong with the script so that I can start using it again. As you can probably tell, I don't have any experience in AppleScript. At the moment the script runs - it presents the dialogue box - and then just ends after a response, but the drives do not unmount.
The partitions on the drive are called Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Saturday
The existing script is as follows:

Your script works with Panther as that operating system allows INTERNAL drives to be "ejected" (and, if you eject one volume on a partitioned drive, all the volumes on that drive are ejected -- this explains why ejecting "Monday" actually ejected Monday through Friday).
With Tiger, you would find that your script works exactly as expected with EXTERNAL drives, but INTERNAL drives need a different approach.
To get behavior exactly as you had before, try this script:

For reasons that aren't entirely clear to me, this approach, while it works reliably, is very slow -- on my fast machine, the unmount process takes nearly 20 seconds. (Using UNIX directly in Terminal, with the same command, is very quick.) (In the AS, the delay occurs in second "do shell script.")
Another puzzle that has cropped up is described in the related thread "Applescript to Mount/Unmount a Disk . . ." (current). While the above approach works for Justin Surpless, it often prompts for a password -- unacceptable in his application. I've not seen this on my PPC (and I tried 10.4.7, which he's using); his may be an Intel Mac, if that could be the difference.
